I am relatively new to the Netflix series The Sandman, but something occurred to me as I was watching it. Rose Walker's great grandmother, Unity Kincaid, had fallen ill to 'Sleepy Sickness' as a consequence of Dream's capture by Rodrick Burgess.

I was watching how she was like 'I am your great grandmother Rose.' and just imagine how it must have been when she was first pregnant with ABSOLUTELY ZERO CONTEXT.

Nurses and doctors must have been so damn horrified that someone might have pulled the original Sleeping Beauty on her.

For those that don't know how that went down, in summary, basically the prince (or king, I need to further look this up had done the no no to the comatose princess and she got pregnant, giving birth in her sleep. Then she wakes up, marries her 'savior' and the 'evil witch' was the jealous ex wife that attempted to save her... (or kill her idk)

Imagine the sheer horror and everyone being suspicious of the men of the office, the nurses just keeping a hawk-like eye on all of their comatose patients, especially the women.

Sorry for the rant, I was on the bus listening to Prime Mover by Ghost when I realized just as I was on the cusp of falling asleep. I had to write this down and share.

A god tried to kill her and she wrote a book about how much of a bitch he was. She got her best friend pregnant. She (unarmed) fought two men (with knives) and won. She snuck into a convention she was invited to. She’s a supernatural world-ending phenomenon. She’s the “everyman” character. She’s the main character’s niece but nobody tells her. She accidentally convinced a crowd that she’s a serial killer. She was even an eldest child

and then the fandom ignored her in favor of white man #28 who appears for half an episode

For an average girl from New Jersey Rose takes it well that his grand-uncle is an eldritch entity.

It takes her more time to get over the cognitive dissonance of seeing her favourite history professor, every students’ father figure, the most innocent, Dr knitted-sweater-every-day Gadling, the Mr Rogers of Imperial College to casually smooch Dream. With the tongue.

“Hi babe,” he says cheerfully. “Is that your niece? Nice to meet you, dear, I’m—”

Hob falls silent, watching his student, eyes widening comically.

“Miss Walker?”

Rose covers her eyes as if it would make the mental image burnt into her memory fade.

“You ruined my childhood.”

Hob flushes a deep shade of red.

“Miss Walker I must apologize—”

“Ruined it.”

Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life ... you give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like "maybe we should be just friends" or "how very perceptive" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. Nothing should be able to do that. Especially not love. I hate love.
