Win Stupid Prizes (rengoku X You)

you groan, rubbing your eyes with one hand while the other slaps around his side of the bed for a body that isn't there. you flip over to find him gone but the sheets still warm. he must have left recently. "husband?"

"dearest! good morning!" his melodically enthusiastic voice responds from the other side of the house, but he doesn't come to you immediately. you huff, throwing around the pros and cons of getting out of bed and deciding to try your luck again. it was kyojuro, after all. he'd bring you the universe in a jar if you asked.

"husband?"

"lover!" he calls again, but still no return to your bed. you can hear the enduring smile in his voice and it takes all your patience not to feel irritated at his absence by your side. you wanted to be selfish with him. you allowed yourself to be selfish with him because no one else loved him like you did. what the hell was he doing so early? and why was it taking so damn long?

"husband." your tone goes flat with light annoyance but, if he cares, he doesn't show it. your arms briefly leave the warmth of the blankets and you just as quickly flop back onto the pillows. whatever he was doing, it definitely wasn't worth getting up so early.

"beloved!" the adoration in his tone doesn't waver. you can faintly hear clattering in the kitchen and pray he doesn't accidentally knock something over, lest you have to shoot out of bed and make sure he's okay. it was your day off, after all, yet he was choosing to make you call for him before the sun is even a quarter in the sky. you take a deep breath, steeling your nerves to yell properly.

"HUSBAN-oh." your voice catches in your throat when you see him standing confused in the doorway holding a tray of food, your favorite foods. "what is...kyo...what is this?" he beams at you, setting the tray on your lap and unnecessarily fixing the pillows behind you. the warm steam of the food wafts into your senses and you hum contentedly. you chuckle when he leans down to press a kiss behind your ear, your hand unconsciously brushing up to cup his face.

"i believe our day off should be celebrated in proper fashion." he finally returns to his place by your side, sitting with you as you stick a forkful of food into your mouth. his voice is soft and raspy, seemingly uncharacteristic for his typically loud demeanor. not many got to see him like this, intimate and gentle, but you did. he'd drag down the constellations if you only asked. "is it-"

"delicious," you finish, pulling him closer to lay back against his chest. the warmth he radiated was more valuable than any sun or star. "thank you, husband. you are everything to me."

"and you to me, my love."

Cherish You Forever | Kyojuro Rengoku x f!Reader

──────────────────────────────────────────

Content Warning: Mention of night terrors, Kyojuro survives but he retired yay, Kyojuro being a loving husband T^T

Word Count: 1.3k

──────────────────────────────────────────

You awoke upon hearing a loud crash coming from outside your room and sat up immediately. The lamp was turned off and it was still dark outside. The sound of crickets signaled that it was still the middle of the night—or, at the very least, early morning before the sun rose.

You touched the space next to you to wake up your husband, fearing that it was a burglar. Your husband, however, was not in your shared futon. You instantly realized what had occurred: your husband was awake and probably made that sound.

You left your warm futon and made your way out to look for your husband, worried. You tried hard not to make any noise with your steps, worried of startling your husband. It was not difficult to find him because the kitchen door was wide open.

When you peeked inside, you saw your husband kneeling and scooping something up from the floor. His cane was resting against the counter.

"Kyojuro-sama?" You called out his name softly as you turned on the light switch.

Kyojuro glared over his shoulder, a dark circle beneath his eye apparent. He stopped picking up the shattered porcelain cup he had dropped on the floor.

You snatched a rag from the kitchen counter and crouched next to him, helping him in picking up the fragments of the cup.

"Another night terror, dear?" You asked calmly as you wrapped the pieces and tossed them into the trash bin. You took his hands in yours and lifted him up, gave him his walking stick. Kyojuro kept his gaze fixed on the ground and did not respond to the question you asked. "Why don't you wait in the dining room, hm? I'll make you a cup of tea, yeah?"

You let go of his hands and went to make the tea, filling one of the kettles and boiling it on the the stove. A strong arm wrapped around your shoulder as you switched on the the stove. Kyojuro sighed and leaned his chin against on top of your head.

"I'm sorry," he croaked out, "It was your favorite cup, wasn't it?"

"Well, yeah but they still sell it in town. It doesn't matter, dear." You turned around, staring up at your beautiful husband.

Kyojuro kept his eye on you while his hand placed yours on his left cheek, near his eyepatch. Your lips tugged up in a small smile.

When you first met Kyojuro, you were curious about what had happened to his left eye. However, you did not dare to ask him about it. You had only recently met. You didn't want to be impolite, especially with your parents, his father, and Senjuro in the room. After all, you'd be marrying the man in a year. You had plenty of opportunity to get to know him.

Kyojuro only told you about his left eye incident on your first night as newlyweds. He let you open his yukata and his eyepatch. You uncovered what was beneath the patch after a year together. Deep scars sewn over his blind eye, as well as a massive scar on his abdomen. Kyojuro kept his gaze fixed on you as you stroked your gentle finger over his battle scars.

Then he told you about what happened while he was a Hashira. He was almost killed by an 'Upper Rank Demon,' but he was lucky since dawn was approaching and the demon fled. He had to go through numerous treatments to heal his wounds. Kyojuro's recovery was challenging, especially when he began having night terrors regarding his near-death experience. The ease with which the demon's hand pushed into his abdomen, the pain he felt when he was carried back in a stretcher, the moment he saw his late mother and realized he was about to join her in the afterlife. Kyojuro, who was half-blind and forced to walk with a walking stick, had no choice but to retire from the corps. That's when his father came up with the proposal of matching him with you, a daughter of an old acquaintance.

Nothing had ever prepared Kyojuro for the moment you told him he was strong and beautiful despite his wounds. He still got flustered now, even with the fact that you've been married for two years.

You caressed his cheek and drew him in closer, kissing the tip of his nose softly. Kyojuro's brow furrowed, and his nose pricked. You laughed and lightly slapped his chest.

"Go wait in the dining room, dear. I'll bring you tea."

"Yes, Ma'am."

The water was quickly brought to a boil. You put some tea leaves in a teapot and filled it with hot water. You carried the teapot and two cups to your dining room on a tray.

Kyojuro sat on the tatami floor, his legs hidden beneath the warm kotatsu table. He appeared to be feeling better, with a faint smile on his lips as he watched you sit down next to him and place the tray on the table.

"So," you started, "how are you feeling?"

"Much better, now you're here." Kyojuro answered. He got back to his usual cheerful tone, though not as loud. Understandable, since the two of you just woke up in the middle of the night.

You sighed and hugged his torso from the side. "Why didn't you wake me up?"

"Of course I didn't want to disturb you." Kyojuro kissed the top of your head. "Besides, this is something I've grown accustomed to."

"I know, but I still want to be there for you, I want to help you."

"(Y/N), dear, you're already helping me. I lost my career, I had no idea where to go, what to do. You gave me a reason to keep living."

You looked up to your husband, waiting if he wanted to continue talking.

"You were supportive when I said I wanted to study history, hoping that I can be a teacher someday. You always take care of me when I'm sick, or helping me when I'm struggling to do something... even if I say I can do it on my own. You befriend my ex colleagues. Tengen and his wives, Sanemi and Giyuu, even young Kamado. You were so patient whenever I had my night terrors, holding me in your arms until I calmed down. You do it every time, for two years until it got better lately. You've done a lot of things to help me already, (Y/N)."

You hummed, not really knowing how to respond to Kyojuro.

"I used to feel pathetic, defeated, useless. All because of these," Kyojuro waved his hand, motioning to his body, "But now I see it as a blessing. Because without these injuries, I wouldn't have marry you, the best partner I could ever asked for."

"Kyojuro... sama..."

"I love you, (Y/N)... and I'm going to cherish you forever, even in the afterlife, even in our next life." Kyojuro lifted up your chin and pressed a chaste kiss on your lips.

You slowly took off Kyojuro's eyepatch and kissed his left eye, before you kissed his nose again. He giggled and pecked your forehead.

"I don't know where you learn to speak like that." You covered your face out of embarrassment.

"Ah... Tengen, perhaps?"

"Perhaps," you patted his cheek and turned to the teapot. "Come on, let's drink our tea and get back to bed."

"I'm not sleepy yet, though."

"We can talk until we fall asleep."

Kyojuro grinned from ear to ear, "I would love that."

You poured the tea into each of your cups and the two of you drank in silence. It was comfortable, it felt right.

"Oh, by the way..."

Kyojuro turned to you and raised an eyebrow.

"I love you too, Kyojuro-sama. Always will."

In spite of your stubbornness, you continued to hiss with every step you took. After dealing with demons yet again, you should likely go back to your own home or recover at the Butterfly Mansion under Shinobu's care.

You walked forward despite the pain in your chest caused by at least two broken ribs.

Because you had so much on your mind, you hadn't been able to visit Rengoku's estate any earlier.

The news of what happened at the Mugen Train made a loud echo throughout the entire Demon Slayer Corps.

When you heard that, you wanted to drop everything and run back to Kyojuro immediately.

___________________________

Senjuro heard your wobbly footsteps and smiled widely when he saw you. "Y/N! You are finally here." Your arrival was on time, and he wasted no time in running up to you to hug you tightly. Hissing, you returned the hug, glad to see him too.

"Are you hurt?" Boy asked immediately, looking up at you.

Your smile was sweet as you replied, "I am fine, and I really missed you too."

"Brother will be pleased to see you." He said slowly. "He was getting worried that you hadn't returned."

You followed Senjuro to the estate and told him, "I'm here now. No need to worry."

A shoji door that served as the entrance to a room was partially open, allowing you to see into Rengoku's chamber.

The walls were a light beige, and there were few paintings to break up the long expanses of neutral colors.

Hashira slept on a futon, light cotton mattress on the floor in a variety of grey shades.

While Senjuro looked worriedly through the door, he said quietly, "He's mostly sleeping. I know that's what he needs right now, but it worries me."

"He needs to recover; a lot of things have happened as I heard. Don’t worry, it’s normal." You assured, rubbing the boy's shoulder in a comforting manner.

The boy nodded and sighed sadly. "I will make some tea for you, but are you sure you don't need any help? I see you shaking."

You smiled as you shook your head. "The trip was tiring for me. I will go to him."

With concern in his eyes, Senjuro nodded and walked away.

Taking a deep breath, you quietly entered the room.

As he was still sleeping, you decided to wait near him, maybe your ribs would rest a little.

"Wounds and injuries have a way of amplifying the most primitive parts of me while silencing the best. I am a tenacious individual. I work on myself. I decide who I will be. So, even though I am still in the process of healing, I continue to be brave, kind... And a little hungry." You could hear a once strong voice, now a little weaker. Flame Hashira opened his eyes and fixed them on you. "How about you, Y/N?"

After letting out a quiet sigh, you opened your eyes and looked at him. As used to seeing two wide, bright, fiery orbs observing you, the sight of the dim one made your heart break, but there was no time to cry now. "Well, I am hungry as well."

"We should ask Senjuro to get us something tasty."

“Oh, I'm sure he's already on it. I'd eat some great onigiri at this point, I haven't eaten in a while." You admitted.

"Life is a series of decisions. You never have unlimited options. or unlimited time to think, but what you choose in that instant defines who you are. So I'd love to have some tamagoyaki! Tasty!"

After he returned, Senjuro sat next to you and placed down a tray with two cups on it. "It's so good to see you awake, brother! She's being stubborn again."

Laughing a bit, Flame Hashira inquired, "Are you surprised? By the way, Y/N, I think you should be treated. It's not as if it all will just disappear. You need rest and good food."

As you moved in your place, you rolled your eyes. "It is nothing I can't handle, Kyojuro. You should be more concerned about yourself. I am fine."

He sat up slowly, letting out a quiet hiss. "I'm concerned about you, too." Rengoku said quietly. "Food?"

You began moving a little and hissing as well, saying, "I am more concerned about you."

Senjuro sighed heavily and shook his head in despair. He got up to leave the room and said, "I will prepare something."

"It must taste good!" Older brother reminded.

Following a moment of silence, you simply embraced him, ignoring your ribs or anything else that was bothering you. You nuzzled his shoulder, thankful that he was still alive.

"Be careful unless you want me dead, but there won't be anyone as experienced as me to save you all." Rengoku made a light joke while wrapping his arms around your waist. "I'm still worried. You need to go to Shinobu and get your wounds treated. Who did you battle this time?"?

"I was there, but I didn't let her stop me. Those are just slightly cracked ribs, I had it worse in the past." You pulled away and cupped his cheek as you examined his injured eye. "I've encountered a few demons. It is possible I was distracted when I heard about you. I wanted to reach you as soon as possible. Fear clouded my mind."

"Did they tell you?"

"Of course, word spreads quickly among slayers. This wasn't an ordinary mission after all. Even when I heard you are alive, I was madly concerned." You said as you couldn't seem to ignore the frown he was wearing. ”Fine. I will stay here to recover.”

___________________________

Several days passed.

Taking you under their wing and feeding you, Rengoku and his younger brother were devoted to you

It wasn't entirely easy.

There were a few times when you actually argued with Shinjuro. You were not the type of person who simply listened when someone made a negative statement about you, even if it was a former Hashira. You never got violent because of the cracked ribs and some respect you still had for the man.

"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Kyo! Don't be so tight... You're gonna break more of my ribs. It hurts!" You whined as he tightened the bandages around your chest.

"Well... It's your own fault, Y/N." Senjuro commented, bringing you a cup filled with medicine you received from Butterfly Mansion.

Glancing at the cup with a frown, you took it.

It resembled dirty water and tasted even worse, but you emptied the cup, making a loud 'bleh' sound and wiping your lips quickly.

The older brother replied, "You seem to be doing better. Soon you will be able to resume your duties."

You sighed loudly, as Kyojuro pulled on your bandages and secured them. "I can't wait. I have a very important thing to do. It won't be easy, probably impossible, but I won't let it go."

Clearly intrigued by what you said, the fire-haired man tilted his head to one side. "Tell me more."

You simply replied, "I'm going after whatever demon did this to you."

Smiling, he furrowed his brows and curled the corners of his lips. "I can handle it on my own. I'll heal and find the perfect opportunity to erase the demon from this world."

After bending too much, he let out a sigh and grimaced; the pain was still very strong and left a burning sensation in his head.

Despite knowing he would never return to demon slaying, Rengoku was too proud to admit all he needed was retirement.

"Lay down." You said, turning around to him and covering your bandages with your kimono.

The younger brother stared at both of you, visibly terrified. His hands were uncomfortable gripping the material of his clothes. "Really, you want to chase that demon?"

"Yes! What?! You think I can't catch him because of this?!" Kyojuro pointed to his injured eye. "And this?!" He pointed to his stomach. "I don't care what you think, Y/N! I'm the one who is going to chase him. Not you or anyone else!"

As a result of Senjuro's brother's outburst, he lowered his head, not wanting to aggravate him any further.

As you stared at Kyojuro, you were shocked. You had never seen him behave in this way before.

"Kyojuro. This is not what I mean, none of us mean it." You said, trying to touch his shoulder as you moved closer to him. "We need to act now, and it will take you some time to recover, love."

"Don't call me love, Y/N. Don't speak about things you have no idea about. And don't underestimate me."

You drew your hand back and nodded. Your attention then shifted to younger brother. "Come, Senjuro. You promised to show me a new recipe, remember?"

The boy raised his head slowly and gave you a small smile as he locked eyes with you. "Yeah. I remember. Let's go."

As you got up, you gave the boy an honest smile, trying your best to cheer him up or at least ease his stress level. You followed him out of the room, leaving Kyojuro to cool off by himself.

Rengoku felt he had become as calm as the wind, which, despite the fact that it is not calm in a gale, remains so. Strength and force, he reasoned, can be calm as well, because they are done with loving certainty for a reason. He was well aware that he had overreacted, but he wasn't used to being useless, harmed, vulnerable in any way.

During that time you helped Senjuro around the house and in the kitchen, just to get your mind off of the recent situation.

___________________________

As evening approached, you decided to check on Kyoujro again to see if he is doing any better. "Hey... I hope I am not bothering. I made some rice balls. I would try to be careful eating them." you joked, entering his room. “I made them.”

"Food!" Rengoku got excited at the information and he sat up, measuring you with the glance.

You chuckled and sat down next to him. "Food indeed. Just as I said, be careful. You know I am not best at making food." You reminded, passing him a rice ball.

He took it from the tray and immediately put a rice ball in his mouth. He smirked and closed his eyes after a short chew. "Delicious!"

As odd as it was, you actually liked this quirk of his. He used this little quirk to make being around him more interesting. "Glad you like it..." You bit your tongue to avoid using 'love' yet again.

He nodded his head a few times. "Very tasty. Rice has a nice texture, spilling on the tongue into small grains. Delicious." After having another three balls, he wiped his lips. "What do you plan?"

"I'll definitely return to my duties once I recover." You shrugged. "The demon was the upper three, this death will be a useful revenge."

"You're too weak to face an upper rank three demon."

You blinked, feeling a little humiliated that he doubted your skills so strongly. "Thanks, Kyo. This really helped me."

"You're not that experienced, that's the fact."

You rolled your eyes, crossing arms over your chest. "Is it really your only concern? Or you simply don't want me to go?"

"My concern for you is evidence of our loving bond, and I hope you understand it as such."

You sighed. "Me getting here with my ribs broken when I could easily rest is proof of that bond. You know I care deeply for you. It's not just a friendship anymore."

He stroked your smooth skin with his thumb as he placed his palm against your cheek. "I just can't lose you."

You covered his palm with your own, letting out a quiet sigh. "I could not lose you too."

"A healthy soul is marked by deep and real concern. I am fortunate to have had a good teacher."

Listening to him, you smiled. It was odd, but you liked it when he spoke like this. "I know you did. That's why you don't want me to go after the demon? Fine, but if I somehow cross my path with him, I won't let him off easy."

As he tapped your nose, he offered you a piece of the rice ball, acknowledging your reasons.

As soon as you finished eating the rice ball, you called out loud, "Tasty!"

Kyojuro nodded in appreciation as he smiled. "You're a fast learner!"

He offered you his arm so you could lean on him.

Making sure to be extra careful, you did so. You didn't want to hurt him. You asked him quietly, "How do you feel?".

Hashira smiled as he replied, "For someone whose stomach was ripped apart by a demon's hand, I'd say I'm doing pretty well." As his fingers entwined in your hair, he massaged your scalp.

While trying to enjoy his closeness, you smiled softly and rolled your eyes. "I love you." Your voice was just a whisper. There was no reason to keep it in any longer.

"They all do!" He chuckled and cracked a quick joke. "You are aware that I have a very special relationship with you. I've developed strong feelings for you. I'm proud to say you're my significant other. We have a lot in common. And you're lovely. You can also cook delicious meals!"

Blushing and nodding, you replied. "I am proud to call you my significant other as well."

Rengoku leaned in and kissed your cheek briefly, saying, "Love transforms my emotions into good thoughts that build my better self."

Listening to him was becoming a bit overwhelming, so you cupped his cheek and pulled him into a kiss.

He let his eyelids drop down and returned the kiss, shouting "tasty" when you parted lips.

It made you laugh.

Senjuro was concerned about you. Brother's sudden outburst was unusual, so he walked over to the shoji door and opened it just enough so he could see inside.

You glanced over towards the open door, noticing that someone else was curious as well. "We have a spectator."

With a quiet sound, the door immediately closed completely after the boy went red.

"SORRY!" Senjuro said loudly. "I wanted to make sure you two were okay. Please forgive me!"

"Don't worry, Senjuro! Everything is fine!" the older brother assured the boy, but his attention quickly returned to you. "Once you're healed, we'll be a great team. I'll help you train, and you'll slay all of the demons until we get Kibutsuji."

Your eyes met his and you nodded. "I might as well leave it all behind and just come live with you here."

"I must decline the offer and opportunity, as tempting as they are. Our purpose is to protect people from demons, that's what we do. Once they are all dead, we can rest and enjoy ourselves."

You said, "I know, I was just teasing you, but I really hope this is over soon." You smiled. "Now let's get some sleep. We need it."

"We can always try to have some amorous congress instead." Hashira winked at you a bit. "I love you, Y/N, and my heart is full knowing you're alright."

"I love you too and as much as I would love to..." You smiled and gently patted his belly, getting a quiet hiss from him "It's not easy with this and my ribs. We need to wait for a little while."

Since he agreed with you, he held you close at the end of the evening.

When he was asleep, you simply watched him, happy that he was still alive and with you.

A Fiery Braid || Kyojuro Rengoku X Reader

Kyōjurō Rengoku walked around the common room of the Butterfly Estate, waiting for new orders. He had been there for a few hours that felt like an eternity to him; he preferred to remain active rather than sit still. Even so, he wasn't going anywhere; Kyōjurō had one more reason to stay. You were that reason.

You were attractive; your hair was always neatly braided, perfect skin was glowing. Whenever he was close to you, your curious Y/E/C eyes studied his every movement, leading him to assume that you were also a little interested in him. On that day, he saw you again; you had been talking to Kanao.

Kyōjurō was a little shocked when he noticed you and the young girl vanished when he only turned his head around after smelling freshly made onigiri. Young man decided to look after you.

You went to have tea with Kanao. Despite being so quiet, she didn't cause you much trouble. She always wanted to spend time with you.

You sat on a porch, drinking tea made by Aoi. Even though you loved being here, your time was running out. You had almost fully healed your broken ribs, wrist injury, and broken leg as well.

In an attempt to flip the coin, Kanao put away her cup. As it landed on her palm, the girl gave you a soft smile. “So would it be okay if I showed you a new braid I can make? Girls have taught me."

Your eyes widened in surprise. "Of course I don't mind. Just let me lose my hair." Saying this, you loosened the ribbons holding your hairstyle together and ran fingers through your hair.

Kanao put away the cups and tray during the meantime. After that, she moved closer to pull your long hair to the back so she could start working.

Little did you know that you were being watched by a pair of Kyōjurō's sharp eyes. You were drinking freshly brewed tea in one of the rooms when he noticed you. Why was he not asked if he wanted a cup as well? Suddenly, Kyōjurō leapt up and peered inside the chamber. "Ladies, good morning. Do you mind if I join you?"

You both stared at him.

Kanao didn't react at all, she was too focused on your hair.

Naturally, you bowed your head as much as you could to show your respect. Both of you were slayers, but let's be honest, you were much lower than Hashira. "Flame Hashira, good morning to you as well. I don't mind it and I am sure Kanao doesn't mind as well."

Kyōjurō Rengoku stepped in slowly, looking around for a free spot.

As he sat down on one of the pillows on the floor, he crossed his legs and watched you. "It is rumored that you are going to leave us soon, Y/N."

You nodded gently so as not to disturb Kanao's work. "My injuries are almost healed. I may be able to leave in a few days. I hope I won't be back here anytime soon... As a patient, I mean."

He whispered quietly, but repeated louder this time, "What a shame it will be that you will no longer be among us."

“I'm not skilled. I just do what I can to keep people safe. But thank you for your kind words. That means a lot." You smiled at him.

While he nodded, he remained in a strange state of thoughtfulness. "Are you planning anything?" He asked.

“It's been a while since I got any orders. If that doesn't change by the end of my treatment, I think I'll visit my own home for a bit," you shrugged a little. You added, "If my crow will bring orders. I think I'll be running after yet another demon."

"So it was your crow who stole my onigiri a few days ago!" He laughed softly.

"Did it have a dark blue sash?" You asked.

Rengoku nodded and touched a pair of chopsticks on the table in front of him to improve their position. "Indeed. Your friend is ill-mannered."

Embarrassed by your crow behavior, you blinked and blushed.

Although you knew that your crow's nature was not so benevolent and that it loved snacks, you didn't expect this.

"Flame Hashira, please forgive me! I had no idea he was so mischievous! I didn't know! I'm so sorry!"

"I could have used a second form on him, but he seemed oddly tame. Watch him next time, Y/N."

"My apologies! I had no idea he could do something like this. I will scold him as soon as possible."

Kanao interrupted your little panic by putting the braid on your shoulder. You looked at it and gasped loudly, it was so beautiful. "Woho! It's perfect, Kanao! Thank you so much, I love it."

The girl smiled and once again flipped her coin. Once it landed back on her palm, she nodded. "I am glad you like it. I will now join others and leave you two alone." Soon, she left the room.

Kyōjurō nodded with a smile on his face. "Your braid is very beautiful, Y/N. It suits you very well."

"Thank you. I braid my hair so they don't bother me while working." You nodded, stroking your hair.

“Isn't it true that a fabulous look always adds some spirit?" He smiled. "I guess Senjuro would like your crow pet."

"Yes, it does! I feel so much more comfortable knowing my hair looks nice and doesn't bother me," You nodded. "You mean your younger brother, right? I don't think he would like my crow since he loves to steal food."

"My little brother is almost as optimistic as I am so I am certain he would easily notice the positive aspects of the pet crow you have."

"Maybe," you replied. The crows belonging to other slayers seem calm and polite, but this one is really mischievous."

"I think it depends on the crow's personality. They're a lot like humans."

"Unfortunately I got hungry and rude." You sighed deeply, playing with your braid.

"You can always train him," Kyōjurō said as he looked at you. "I like your braid a lot. Could you please make me one?"

The blinked, completely overshadowed his question. "I-I… Sure. Your hair is long enough to make a decent braid. It won't be as long as mine though.”

As he gestured for you to approach, he undid the bun he had made. "I'd like to try that!"

As you continued to be surprised by his question, you got up and moved closer to sit next to him. Maybe it was silly, but honestly, you were scared of his hair. What if you burned your hands on it? Nevertheless, you moved your hand gently through the hair to ensure there were no tangles.

"Did you learn from a master or were you self-taught?"

"My father was a demon slayer. He was my master until he retired from fighting because of his wounds." You said, brushing his hair with your fingers before you started gently braiding them.

Kyōjurō nodded slowly as he listened to your story. "I trained to become a Hashira. It might have been easier for me since I am part of the Rengoku family and our lineage is filled with powerful swordsmen."

"I know, I heard a lot about your family." You nodded, gently braiding his hair.

"Just! I would like them to be braided as neatly as yours. Your braid is very beautiful."

Your skilled fingers collected strands of his hair and worked them.

I promise to do my best. I love your hair, sir, but I was sure they were hot since they looked like fire." You giggled, pulling back another strand of his hair.

A quiet hiss came from him. "Ough!" He then winked at you as he rolled his head back. "Don't worry, just kidding."

You told him, "Please, don't do that. I'm scared to pull your hair."

"You're not dealing with any demon here, it's just hair!" Flame Hashira reminded you in the soft tone of his.

"I'm braiding the hair of a Fire Pillar. It's terrifying on its own," you hummed, tying the strands together. "Could you pass me the ribbing in which your hair was tied up before?"

You received the item from him shortly after. Grabbing the end of the braid and tying it tightly to make sure your work wouldn't fall apart, you thanked him quietly. "It looks great."

To check the braid, he jolted up and rushed to the nearest mirror. The final result incorporated all of the hair into a smoothly woven pattern over the scalp. A smile spread across Rengoku's face as he said, "I love it!"

You smiled and clapped your hands. "I am so glad to hear that!"

“Maybe I can return the favor by taking you out for onigiri?” Rengoku asked, turning his head to you.

You stared at him again, surprised. Was he just... inviting you to dinner? "Of course. This sounds wonderful!"

Flame Hashira smiled at you with a small sparkle in his eye.

You smiled and followed him to the kitchen to grab a few onigiris.

After that, you two proceeded to sit on a porch. At first, you were afraid of Hashira, but now you were relaxed as if you were talking with a good friend.

As you held the onigiri in your hands, a craw wearing a navy blue sash jumped on your shoulder and simply grabbed the onigiri.

You blinked. "Hey!”

Rengoku chuckled. "That guy is rude," he said. "Or hungry. Hunger is the most unpleasant feeling a living being can experience."

He carefully examined one of his onigiris. Then, after a moment's hesitation, he opened his palm and extended his hand out to the crow, with onigiri in it.

Clearly, the crow couldn't resist the snack. The crow quickly swallowed it and spread his wings.

"CRAW CRAW! I brought an order! Order! A village where people go missing! Demons attack!"

Rengoku's crow joined you two soon, as well.

"North! North! The village in the north needs help! People are going missing. Y/N will join Flame Hashira to take care of the threat!”

"Huh?!” You gasped, shocked with the information.

Rengoku's lips curled in a little smirk as he nodded, getting up. "The order was passed. I think we need to hit the road. There are some demons that need to be slayed!"

"I just need a moment to gather my stuff," you nodded and then looked at your crow. "And you! You shouldn't just steal people's food!"

Crow definitely felt offended and just pecked you on the temple before flying away.

"So it's rudeness that runs in his little veins!" Rengoku chuckled softly and nodded at his own crow. "Get ready, Y/N. The duty is calling!"

"Yes, Rengoku-san!” You nodded excitedly and ran off to gather your things.

You knew he'd be late, really late, but that didn't keep you from waiting. All you wanted to do after returning from a mission not long ago was see your love and mentor.

Since everyone else at Rengoku estate had fallen asleep a long time ago, you decided to sit on the egawa and read the book you bought on your way back. The weather was pleasant, and the soft light from the lantern made the wait bearable.

Kyōjurō's heavy footsteps could be heard on the porch. He walked slowly to the door, trying not to wake anyone, until he noticed you, sitting comfortably on egawa. "Y/N, is it late and you're not sleeping?"

"I couldn't wait to see you in the morning. I just missed you too much," as you said this, you lifted your head from the book and blinked, your brows furrowed. You were used to seeing him return in poor health; fighting demons wasn't easy, but this was the first time Kyōjurō looked like that. He stood there in front of you, his left cheek cut and still bleeding slightly, but what surprised you the most was that the hair on the same side was cut in a strange way. With his hair so uneven, he looked odd. "What occurred?"

"Nothing special. As you know, demons can be nasty," he smiled and pressed his hand against his bleeding cheek. "Don't worry, my hair will regrow and the cut will heal."

"I've been worried about you since the first time I saw you," you told him as you rose to your feet. "Let's go inside and deal with this cut."

Rengoku followed you inside, albeit reluctantly. "It's not necessary, Y/N."

"It is necessary for me. It's still gushing," you told him as you rolled your eyes, sitting him on the tatami mats. "It needs to be cleaned and covered. It'll only take a second."

He sat in the room, expecting you to come back with something to clean the cut on his cheek.

You soon returned with a small box containing everything required to treat his injury. You pressed a disinfectant-soaked cotton ball against his cheek. "It's a shame it also got your hair..."

"Apparently, sharp claws can have a very wide reach," Kyōjurō joked, shaking his head slightly. "Don't be concerned, it'll grow back soon."

"You should get a haircut then," you concluded with a smile. "I'm not going to let you walk around like that."

"No," he said, shaking his head with a wide grin on his lips. "This gorgeous, magnificent hair isn't going anywhere."

"Kyo? I adore you and your hair, but you look ridiculous in this. Because the demon only got to the left side, I cut your hair a little on the right side to make it even," you shrugged slightly, finishing with the wound by bandaging it.

"Not going to happen," he said as he rose from his seat and crossed his arms across his chest. "You must obey my words, Y/N, I am your mentor."

You gave him a gentle facepalm before looking up at him. "You're also my partner, and I don't want you acting like this. Kyōjurō, that looks bad."

"It looks good, and please don't cut my hair with scissors."

It was difficult to believe what he was saying because his left side had a large chunk of hair missing while the other side was nice and long. You nodded softly, there was no need to argue with him about it at that hour. "If you insist."

"I'll agree to it if it makes you happy."

As you stood up, you smiled. "I'll go get some scissors and a comb. Don't be concerned. I'm not going to cut all of your hair. You will look just as good with short hair as you would with long."

When you left, he mocked your tone, saying, "As perfect as with long hair." Rengoku trusted you with all of his heart, no matter how unhappy he was with his decision.

You returned a few minutes later with a mirror and other items you required. "Sit down and allow me to work."

He complied with your request. "Just be cautious with it. My hair is the most beautiful in the world. When did you return, by the way? Do you have any sweet potatoes? I'd eat something delicious."

"They are, as Tengen would say, flamboyant. Don't worry, I'll be cautious," you sat down next to him and began to gently comb his hair. "I returned this evening, arriving earlier than expected. Thanks to your instruction, I believe I am making progress. Senjuro specially prepared some sweet potatoes for you."

"What a wonderful, wonderful news!" He exclaimed enthusiastically. "When we're finished, we'll have a nice meal to share while we tell stories."

"Oh yes. I'm starving because I waited for your return with my meal," you nodded, grabbing scissors. "Are you prepared?"

"No, but let's have it done, because I'm tired and hungry," Rengoku said.

"I promise to be cautious. I'm not going to cut off your ear. I think," you made a joke and kissed his cheek before beginning to work on his hair. It hurt to cut his hair because you loved it so much, yet it had to be done.

You made the back shorter while keeping the front even and longer. Of course, you didn't dare to touch his adorable ponytail. When you were finished, you patted his shoulder. "Are you ready to see the final result?"

"No, but I'd like to get it done. Please show me the results."

You sat in front of him, rolling your eyes, and picked up the mirror. "What are your thoughts?"

Kyōjurō examined his new hairstyle carefully in the mirror. Actually, it didn't look so bad, but he knew he'd need some time to adjust. "Approved. You did an excellent job."

With a wide smile on your lips, you blushed. "I'm overjoyed you like it. You look stunning!"

"Thank you," Kyōjurō said as he wrapped his arms around you and rubbed his nose against yours. "You did an excellent job. Now! Let's eat something delicious!"
