Buffy’s basketball team, “The Spikes”, could very much be another reference to “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”. I believe that’s the case because, in the team uniform, there’s the drawing of what, color of it aside, to me looks less like a spike and more like a stake, a weapon Buffy Summers (the main character of BTVS) reccuringly used against Vampires, and the name of the team itself could be another reference to a fan favorite character of BTVS, the Vampire Spike.
