Will in his rebellious phase as a teen (which he definitely had, not a social type of rebellious phase, more of a quiet, I’m not going to listen and instead be in my head all day kind of phase), decided that he wanted to have a few actual acts of rebellion (because of Will growing up in the south, more so when he was a teen, boys getting no piercings was definitely not seen as normal, and likely came with stereotypes), and that included piercing his own ears. (Probably with the same style and method as “The Parent Trap,” but did so by himself. Other acts probably included him cutting his own hair, taking in strays - and not just dogs, cats, other less common abandoned pets, and even the occasional opossum or raccoon.)

I feel like we as a fandom collectively don't talk enough about the face that Will has his ears pierced...
