I feel like there are two interactions that sums up both Fujin character and how much of a Bystander parent her is.

First is this interaction of him with Kotal khan about his loyalty towards Raiden even when he turned to darkness

Look how he acts like not supporting Raiden in being the bad guy actually makes him one of the good guy while he stand at the side and actively let Raiden hurt people. Also look how fast he brings up the sanctity of family bonds when questioned about this.

And the second is this one and honestly it broke my heart a little the first time I saw this

Scarlet asked him a God that when children like her who were poor and starving away pray to him what does he as a god do and Fujin answer simply without any shame or hesitation nothing he doesn’t care about those in outworld that suffer his kindness and loyalty extends to earth realm only.

And that sum’s him up perfectly he doesn’t care that people got hurt until those people were from earthrealm, he even threatened raiden that he would put him down if he ever hurt people of “eathrealm” because at the end of the day even thought Fujin is a nice person he is not a good person he has biases that he holds and honestly that makes his character a bit more interesting to me

Since we’re roasting Raiden. Can we also call out Fujin as well.(cause I’m writing a confrontation between Fujin and Kung Lao where he leaves the Shaolin, based on your headcanons)

Cause let’s be real, playing both sides, means you’re on no side. He’s not only enabling Raiden’s bad behaviour, but likely caused Lao humiliation by taking Raiden’s side publicly.

Kung Lao probably can’t even tell if anyone actually agrees with him now, assuming they’re just making fun of him. ☹️

Yeah, I think Fujin means well, but he's so used to following in Raiden's footsteps that he doesn't know how to act against him, and he keeps balking at the idea every time he tries

I do think that Fujin would eventually realize his mistakes and apologize, but it wouldn't be enough and he'd carry the regret of that with him for the rest of his life

TW abuse mention/discussion

It honestly gives off the vibe of a "Bystander Parent" if that makes sense? Like, when one parent is abusive either physically, emotionally, etc or neglectful and then you have the other parent who isn't actively abusive but also makes no effort to protect you/is less abusive, so you latch onto them and kinda favor them bc of that. Then, you eventually realize what is really happening and that causes a lot of turmoil

I think that's what happens with Kung Lao and Fujin, Lao realizes that Fujin, for as much as he was better than Raiden, didn't actually protect him in anyway that mattered and, as hard as it was for Lao to realize he does deserve to be protected, so he leaves.
