My issue with Pride
Before y’all start attacking me for this title, this is coming from a bisexual trans guy so don’t start calling me any of the phobics.
I have a serious issue with pride month and in particular pride parades and other events. This isn’t because I lack acceptance for members of my own community, no, but because of the lack of ratings (this word will make sense in a minute) for these events. People love to advertise pride as if it’s some wonderful family friendly event but in our reality, that’s not true right now. I’m not saying kids shouldn’t be allowed at pride, I’m saying that they shouldn’t be allowed to interact with kinksters and stripping drag queens because if you think that’s appropriate for a child you are severely mistaken. I think a lot of people will think i’m saying “what about the children” or “children shouldn’t know gay people exist” when in reality that’s not what i’m saying, i’m saying a child shouldn’t be exposed to rainbow dildo ring toss. We can combat this by having age ratings for these events like they do for conventions and other events. By having a rating (for example putting an 18+ rating on a parade with erotic themes) can issue that children don’t have to be exposed to the adult world that exists in pride events as of today. To put it simple, bringing kids to these events is like bringing them to a erotic club. I think everyone in this community has their right to be prideful and express that but when it exposes a child to the adult world I do think there needs to be some moderation. I’m going to be so honest right now this is why LGBTQIA+ acceptance rates are going down and also part of the reason on why LGBTQIA+ people have this heinous image in the public eye. This is a huge issue for me as it makes me avoid pride altogether and feel dread for pride month, sometimes it makes me ashamed to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community too. We can do better, so let’s accept that and make it better.
