I also want to fucking add that people who HC Rin or worse still, insist that canon will depict Rin as someone with “agency” who seduced Sesshomaru need to make sure their glasses are on straight and that they passed elementary level reading. Y’all are probably those weirdos who read Lolita as a love story. Telling me Rin had agency in seducing Sesshomaru is little more than a form of victim blaming. Pedomaru / Loliconmaru (AKA the evil twin of OG Sesshomaru) was the adult, the guardian / parental figure who should know better and should have rejected any advances your delusional puppet Rin made towards him. But oh wait. None of this is canon anyway. Now go back to worshipping at your godless shrines.
The other day, in a post you called HnY "fanfiction with a budget" or something like that. I haven't been able to get that out of my head. That comment hit the nail on the head. HnY is what Sunrise wanted out of a sequel (the execs have to all be SessR*nners) and I'm just glad they had to stick (somewhat) in line with the manga for Inuyasha because I can only imagine how horrible that train wreck would've been if they had full creative control for that.

You know what's the worst part? I'm positive that at least half of the sᴇssʀɪɴ fanfic writers out there would have made a better job at writing a canon compliant story for the ship.
It's not like they don't know what is wrong with this pairing. They do. That's why they try so hard to overcompensate some aspects of their relationship (thinking ʀɪɴ is the dominant one, for instance) and turn a blind eye, retcon or downplay the others (the visits, the gifs — when we’re lucky enough, because some people actually see this as courting —, the authority sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ exerced over her, the obvious familial dynamic between them, etc).
My point is that they know what’s wrong and try to fix it so they can ship it without a guilty conscience. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ visited her and brought her gifts? It was all in good faith at the time but then he stopped and stepped out of her life. ʀɪɴ is a child? No problem! Age her up to adulthood. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ used to be an authority figure for her? Not if we portray a dominant version of ʀɪɴ in which she is the one to make the first move, thereby sparing sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ from any responsibility. She still feels like a child? Let’s give her some authonomy and agency outside of sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ. They never saw each other like that? Well, let’s show when, how and why their relationship shifted.
Does this work for fanfiction? Yes! Because there is creative license and no obligation to canon even if it’s canon compliant. The sky is the limit. And ʀɪɴ being more of a plot device than a character, not to mention a kid that can grow up to be anyone, it’s the perfect blank slate to explore, project onto and even self insert. Whatever floats your boat, I don’t care. Just tag things properly and go be happy.
Does this work for official content? No! Because it has to stay true to the original story and the original story showed their relationship in a way that makes it impossible to turn it into a romance without very disgusting implications. It recontextualizes everything. And it makes you question their every interaction. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ letting her tag along, caressing her face, giving her gifts, always being around. It’s only innocent if it stays platonic. If it becomes romantic, it’s all tainted, no matter if ʀɪɴ was the one to start it, because there’s no way sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ, who watched her grow up, would develop feelings for someone he met as a child unless he already had those feelings and was only waiting for her to be of age so he could act on them. The familial bond build between them can’t be erased just like that. Look at the huge amount of work, retcons, reaches and mischaracterization it needs to be slightly acceptable in fanfiction. And you can’t even do that properly in official content without contradicting the original.
But it’s worse than that: it’s not that Sunrise didn’t even try it, is that Sunrise made a point out of portraying the couple in the worst way possible. ʀɪɴ isn’t dominant. ʀɪɴ has no agency or authonomy. ʀɪɴ isn’t an adult. She is a slightly taller plot device who has lost her pigtail. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ still visited her, still brought her gifs, still was a presence in her life, still exerced authority over her. They started a romance, but we don’t know when, how or why they got there. They had kids, but their dynamyc is very much the same.
And shippers, who have always written sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ as this loving father and husband, had to settle for watching him barely interact with the mother of his children, leave his own kids to die for the sake of a higher plan and pretend that this was all they have ever wanted just to not admit they were wrong.
Love story? More like “evidence given to the sex crimes unit in the interview room.” There’s nothing Sunrise can do to make this anything but straight up grooming and pedophilia at this point ✌️
I think a lot S/R are upset that there is not back info on how S/R got together. Many complain about that aspect of YH, saying the show doesn't really have foundation in a way. They really want their S/R love story.
But... there isnt a love story unless you count the times when Rin was a smaller child as the beginning of their love relationship..
And that is 100% pedophilia. It's is like no matter how you look at it, S/R wasn't meant to be romantic and any romance between the two will always be messed up because of the original authors intent--familial relationship.

Something that always amused me was that beyond the Inu no Taisho’s intention to teach Sesshōmaru to further develop and express compassion, Sesshōmaru absolutely needs Tenseiga. He leads an incredibly violent life and has put his travelling companions in mortal danger multiple times. Unless he’s willing to give up a life of conquest completely, which I honestly doubt, there’s no good reason for him to part from the sword. IMO, Tenseiga has also always been a sort of brief comment about how dangerous his chosen life is. It’s not necessarily compatible with relationships and attachments, and he needs the sword because he puts his companions in danger all the fucking time thanks to his questionable choices. It doesn’t make sense for him to give up the sword.
I hate this scene. They made Sesshomaru give his sword to the Mary Sue twin who knows so little about him and seems so disconnected from the world of Inuyasha that it was like watching Sesshomaru give his sword to a character from another anime. It just feels wrong. And what bothers me the most: Sunrise seems to think that Sesshomaru is ready to detach himself from Tenseiga.
Really? Has Sesshomaru already learned everything he had to learn from Tenseiga? Has he already learned all about compassion? This Sesshomaru who planned to raise only his strongest daughter? This Sesshomaru who abused the child he was supposed to take care of? I don't think so.
What Sunrise did here was totally incoherent: He could have revived Setsuna himself. Why give his sword to Towa? And it was also unnecessary: Sesshomaru only inherited Tenseiga when his father died and it was for him to learn compassion. But Sesshomaru is not dead and Towa does not need to learn compassion. In fact, the character that needs Tenseiga the most is still Sesshomaru, because it seems like he didn't learn anything. 🙄
Sunrise made Sesshomaru give up his title, give up his sword, change his personality, and become a disgusting character in favor of a pointless narrative that promotes pedophilia. One more reason why Yashahime is not canon.

Children and teenagers develop crushes on authority figures all the time. Teachers are commonly on the receiving end of misplaced and confused affections. Does this mean teachers should just accept their students' advances? Why wouldn't students want to be with teachers? Why would teachers have any reason to turn students down?
Anybody who has worked in a position of some authority over children/teenagers/young adults can and should be familiar with power imbalances that make romantic or sexual relationships deeply unsettling and uncomfortable. Differences in life stages, experiences, and social roles are usually enough to make those in your care unappealing as partners in any way.
On that thought, why would Sesshōmaru want to be with Rin? He likely thinks of humans as insignificant and bothersome, has raised her as a guardian would a child, and furthermore, Rin is just some poor orphan who has nothing in common with him, is mindlessly obedient, and lacks personality traits or experience that would enable them to develop as a couple and as individuals. She’s always been a dependent rather than somebody who can contribute in any meaningful way to a relationship between two adults. She is not an equal. Never has been, never will be.
That SessRinners cannot—or will not—understand this is yet another example of the moral and ethical rot we've come to expect from them.
Weirdest argument to date is “why wouldnt Rin want to be with him” while ignoring Sesshomaru’s perspective. Even if Rin wanted to be with him, its his job as the adult to turn her down, reject her advances.

Her first period? It’s starting to read a lot like “if she bleeds she breeds”. Again it doesnt matter what Rin wanted, at 14, it is Sesshomaru’s job to turn her down. Hes not some helpless half wit waiting to do Rins bidding.
I’m not just Anti-SessRin, I’m Never-SessRin. It’s never been about her age. It’s the power dynamics that inform the very foundations of their relationship. People who try to turn antis’ arguments into one about age gaps are being disingenuous, and they know this. They are trying to distract and confuse. There are plenty of adults who are in relationships with large age gaps, who MET AS ADULTS and can negotiate boundaries like mutually-respecting equals.
The problem has been, and will always be, the fact that Sesshōmaru developed a sexual interest in Rin, whom he met when she was 8, and cared for like a child. He was her sole source of support and her literal lifeline. She adored him wholeheartedly and worshipped him blindly. This is not good grounds for any romantic or sexual relationship, which should take place between consenting adults who are equals.
Sesshōmaru and Rin will never be equals. She will never get past her hero worship for the man she owes her life to. She has no agency and was a plot device who was fleshed out to the bare minimum to give Sesshōmaru’s character some dimension. People who think Rin is some sassy bitch domme queen with all the power over Sesshōmaru are delusional and lying to themselves. Miss me with your bullshit.

😅😅 Honestly no. I’m genuinely a little sorry to say this but unlike many other antis, I really cannot stomach sessr*n at all.
I know most people are much more open-minded and they find that like ok problematic ships are fine so long as it’s kept to fanon or like if adult fanmade content be kept to only adult spaces and fiction doesn’t equate to reality and etc. Don’t get me wrong, that’s valid and I understand that perspective, I really do, I just can’t accept it personally.
I have older men in my life who watched me grow up and are father figures to me, and there are people in my own family who are as affectionate and close to their step-parents who raised them as if they were biologically related. I cannot even briefly entertain the thought that any of these men had romantic intentions towards me, or the children that they watched grow up, without literally physically feeling nauseous.
Perhaps some people may think I’m self-inserting into R*n or whatever, but yeah, any story line with R*n ending up with Sessh**maru is just vile to me, even if let’s say, idk, R*n has no contact with Sessh**maru until her 50s or so before he gets romantically involved with her? Call me small-minded but that’s just how I am, I guess.

But the cult part I do agree with I don’t get the praise for Sesshomaru x Rin. It’s been popular since Inuyasha. Sessrin in Yashahime is disgusting. The way she calls her supposed husband the same way she did as a child and how he ignores her and leaves without even saying I don’t know “Take care of yourself.” or “You did good.” And apparently they don’t even live with each other?!??
