Y’all are probably those weirdos who read Lolita as a love story. Telling me Rin had agency in seducing Sesshomaru is little more than a form of victim blaming. Pedomaru / Loliconmaru (AKA the evil twin of OG Sesshomaru) was the adult, the guardian / parental figure who should know better and should have rejected any advances your delusional puppet Rin made towards him. The other day, in a post you called HnY "fanfiction with a budget" or something like that. I haven't been able to get that out of my head. That comment hit the nail on the head. HnY is what Sunrise wanted out of a sequel (the execs have to all be SessR*nners) and I'm just glad they had to stick (somewhat) in line with the manga for Inuyasha because I can only imagine how horrible that train wreck would've been if they had full creative control for that.

You know what's the worst part? I'm positive that at least half of the sᴇssʀɪɴ fanfic writers out there would have made a better job at writing a canon compliant story for the ship.

It's not like they don't know what is wrong with this pairing. They do. That's why they try so hard to overcompensate some aspects of their relationship (thinking ʀɪɴ is the dominant one, for instance) and turn a blind eye, retcon or downplay the others (the visits, the gifs — when we’re lucky enough, because some people actually see this as courting —, the authority sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ exerced over her, the obvious familial dynamic between them, etc).

My point is that they know what’s wrong and try to fix it so they can ship it without a guilty conscience. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ visited her and brought her gifts? It was all in good faith at the time but then he stopped and stepped out of her life. ʀɪɴ is a child? No problem! Age her up to adulthood. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ used to be an authority figure for her? Not if we portray a dominant version of ʀɪɴ in which she is the one to make the first move, thereby sparing sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ from any responsibility. She still feels like a child? Let’s give her some authonomy and agency outside of sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ. They never saw each other like that? Well, let’s show when, how and why their relationship shifted.

Does this work for fanfiction? Yes! Because there is creative license and no obligation to canon even if it’s canon compliant. The sky is the limit. And ʀɪɴ being more of a plot device than a character, not to mention a kid that can grow up to be anyone, it’s the perfect blank slate to explore, project onto and even self insert. Whatever floats your boat,  I don’t care. Just tag things properly and go be happy.

Does this work for official content? No! Because it has to stay true to the original story and the original story showed their relationship in a way that makes it impossible to turn it into a romance without very disgusting implications. It recontextualizes everything. And it makes you question their every interaction. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ letting her tag along, caressing her face, giving her gifts, always being around. It’s only innocent if it stays platonic. If it becomes romantic, it’s all tainted, no matter if ʀɪɴ was the one to start it, because there’s no way sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ, who watched her grow up, would develop feelings for someone he met as a child unless he already had those feelings and was only waiting for her to be of age so he could act on them. The familial bond build between them can’t be erased just like that. Look at the huge amount of work, retcons, reaches and mischaracterization it needs to be slightly acceptable in fanfiction. And you can’t even do that properly in official content without contradicting the original.

But it’s worse than that: it’s not that Sunrise didn’t even try it, is that Sunrise made a point out of portraying the couple in the worst way possible. ʀɪɴ isn’t dominant. ʀɪɴ has no agency or authonomy. ʀɪɴ isn’t an adult. She is a slightly taller plot device who has lost her pigtail. sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ still visited her, still brought her gifs, still was a presence in her life, still exerced authority over her. They started a romance, but we don’t know when, how or why they got there. They had kids, but their dynamyc is very much the same.

And shippers, who have always written sᴇssʜᴏᴍᴀʀᴜ as this loving father and husband, had to settle for watching him barely interact with the mother of his children, leave his own kids to die for the sake of a higher plan and pretend that this was all they have ever wanted just to not admit they were wrong.

I just got into inuyasha and I got attached to sesskag, I’ve never watched the anime (nor read the manga) and I’m certainly not going to do it after seeing the mess yashahime has done, so I was wondering what’s your opinion on ssrin because for me they were like family but well, they became a ship and sesshomaru a pedo lmao. His character was so well developed but thanks to yashahime everything went to the trash.

Is yashahime canon or approved by the manga author? Do you know how does the Japanese fandom take this ship? I just feel so bad for sesshomaru stans because seems that his character changed a lot and is being labeled as pedo/grooming rin.

Ship wars aside, I just can’t accept ssrin as a ship because it was more a platonical/familiar bond between them, not romantic. Talking about sesskag the possibilities of becoming canon were low and sometimes it’s better when your otp doesn’t become canon and I’ve been through it quite a few times lol.

Ohh I myself jumped onto Ulquihime fanfiction before watching or reading Bleach so I can understand where you're coming from with liking Sesskag but not having seen or read the show 😂

I'd rather not get into the whole Sess/rin thing. All you gotta do is search 'anti Sessrin' on my blog and you'll see my opinion on it. I gotta be in the right (depressed) mood to talk about it. However I don't see the debate as a ship war (at least from the antis side of things.) Its really not about that.

I don't know how the Japanese fandom took it. I know shippers say there's nothing but support but I've seen a few posts from antis about Japanese fans who are uncomfortable with what's being portrayed in the show.

However Sesshoumaru stans - please try not to feel bad. I've said it before but your character is fine. He's untouched in the original manga/anime that ended in the Final Act. When Cedric Diggory was made a Death Eater in Cursed Child, did peeps accept it? Nope. They said - 'no thanks' to that parallel dimension of fuckary.

I think a lot S/R are upset that there is not back info on how S/R got together. Many complain about that aspect of YH, saying the show doesn't really have foundation in a way. They really want their S/R love story.

But... there isnt a love story unless you count the times when Rin was a smaller child as the beginning of their love relationship..

And that is 100% pedophilia. It's is like no matter how you look at it, S/R wasn't meant to be romantic and any romance between the two will always be messed up because of the original authors intent--familial relationship.
