Jade hums thoughtfully. "That is true. There are quite a lot of bad humans out there." She holds both of her hands up to show she's unarmed. "I'm not holding a weapon or anything. I'm also not actively trying to attack you."

She looks around confused. "Are you talking to me? I don't want to harm you."

Jett shot up, gasping for air. This was the first time she had faced ─ resistance during her suppression technique. Guess that makes sense. All of her prior experience was in a lab setting. With ─ frankly ─ less powerful individuals. As long as she maintains contact, she is able to manipulate her own cursed energy to block the flow of another's. Her own energy essentially becomes a dam ─ and as she discovered today ─ she can be overpowered. It was a fascinating experience. Pity she was too busy blacking out to take notes.

While a bit disoriented, at least she was upright. " Huh ─ " Eyes scanned the room, taking in the infirmary and the woman who saved her. " Are we still in the school? "

The researcher was drawn to cursed energy like a moth to a flame. Even if following it brought her into a sewer ─ she still persists. Did she have a plan or knowledge of humanoid curses? Of course not. That would require foresight and a sense of self preservation she distinctly lacks. " Okay ─ here we go. "

Clutching to her phone like a horror movie character, Jett followed it's light to her doom. Little did she know, the source of the energy was already hunting her. At this point, it was perplexing. While she has no formal training, she could usually locate a curse by it's energy. However, this one didn't have a precise location. It's presence was like a state of matter ─ replacing the air around it with a palpable sense of dread.

It had her jumping at the odd rat or her own shadow. That's when he made himself known. Mahito's emergence was met with a scream. However ─ once she saw that it was just a guy talking to her, she started calming down.

" Oh shit. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scream like th ─" Before Jett could finish her explanation, the man had drawn much closer. His touch made her stomach twist into knots. There it was again ─ that suffocating sense of dread. " ... " It had her mind racing, disassociated from the man's line of questioning.

Then the realization hit her. That's not a person.

well, this is certainly a first. usually, he has to go out to out and hunt for his new play things. this time, there's someone walking right into the sewers. how lucky of him, this saves him a lot of energy. he doesn't show himself at first, it takes everything in him to, but he wants to observe her, see if he can find out what kind of person she is- more specifically, if she's some kind of jujutsu sorcerer.

watching her for a little bit longer, he starts to get bored, finally emerging from his hiding spot. “ a little lost, are we? ” there's a smile present upon his face, one that's unsettling and far from genuine. without much of a warning, he's draping an arm around her, that grin of his growing. “  although, now that i think about it... coming here was intentional, wasn't it? it's not like getting lost in a place like this is conventional, it's a sewer. but what could you possibly want to come here for? to see me? ” @tearenola gets a stinky sewer rat

" Well shit ─ no wonder I feel hung over. " This is something to document later. Maybe if she's lucky, she can talk to the person who did it. " Almost dying aside... The fact that something like that can happen is pretty cool. So hey, there's a bright side. "

" Oh, right... " At Shoko's beckoning she swung her legs over the bed, scooting closer to the doctor. " Thank you, by the way. You said you used a technique to save me... " Keep it in girl. now that jett's upright, shoko grabs ahold of a few things; a pulse oximeter, a blood pressure cuff, and a stethoscope. sitting herself down next to the bed, she sets everything neatly down on her lap.

“  we are, you were overpowered by cursed energy, so they brought you here. i used my reverse technique to heal you. ” she hangs the stethoscope around her neck, and beckons for jett to come closer. “  if you don't mind, i'd like to run a few tests, make sure everything seems okay. ”

“ Oh shit, you’re awake. ” Grabbing a bucket and a first aid kit, Jett hurried over to Nobara’s side. “ Hey, do you remember me? I’m the researcher that’s been coming to your school. ” As she spoke, she placed a water bottle along with various medical supplies a table near them.

“ We found you in pretty rough shape. So I brought you to my friend’s bar. ” Her eyes pointed to the man behind the bar top. “ That’s Kentaro. He’s a sorcerer and he has a defensive barrier around the place. So we should be safe for now. ” It was absolute hell outside. She couldn’t even begin to fathom what this kid has been through, given her condition. “ If you don’t mind — I’d like to take a closer look at your injuries. ”

pain, the first thing that greets her when she comes to. her memories are hazy, she doesn’t know where she is, and she can’t remember how she got here. all she remembers is him… he caught her off guard, he attacked her, and… she should be dead. shouldn’t she? for a moment she thinks so, if it weren’t for the pain in her eye, she’d believe it. but she’s not in the afterlife, when her vision clears up enough to see where she is, she’s in a hospital room.

she’s disoriented, trying to put the pieces back together. what happened after everything? what if everyone’s gone? what if she’s the only one alive after shibuya?

she sits up suddenly, despite the stiff muscles, despite the excruciating pain in her eye. the need for answers is greater than her physical pain, she’ll worry about that later. “ w-what happened? where am i— ”

@pareidolah a very strong part of him wants to deny her, however... it's been awhile since he's been embraced, that's supposed to cheer normal people up, maybe, just maybe, it'll have the same affect on him. “ .... ” he's reluctant to speak up, too embarrassed by this moment of weakness. but he's not saying no, in fact, he's stepping closer to her, ducking his head, almost shamefully. without saying a word, this is his way of saying he does need one. continued.

Spending time around the kids had lead the researcher to develop a sense of their normal. It was found even in small, subconscious body language. Now, she couldn’t put into words what was wrong. But the feeling compelled her to act. To be honest, Jett is a little surprised he took her up on the offer. However, she was happy to comfort him. Without a word, she wrapped her arms around the boy. Holding him close. Megumi is such a wonderful kid — so considerate and brave. With this sort of nature, it would be easy to see him holding things in. It’s not weak to need a hug — especially at this age. Processing more than a person should ever be asked to experience. Let alone a boy his age.

Jett couldn’t help but laugh. She had a point. “ Honestly — go for it. I can’t see him getting that mad about it anyway. It’ll be good target practice. Plus, it would be pretty impressive if you actually got him. "

“ huh, not the answer i was expecting. ” but she’ll take it, throwing rocks is better than hitting someone with a hammer, outside of physical fights, that is. “ think i can start with gojo? i know it won’t hit him, but if i’m lucky… ”

Her face melted into a grimace under the hot wash of shame. Oh, she made a mistake. While she could tell he was being somewhat dramatic, there was still a distinct twinge of guilt. There was also a temptation to lie — but what’s the point? He knows. It’s obvious that he knows. Frankly, it’s more embarrassing to get caught in an obvious lie than to just fess up. He’s not the type to get mad — right?

“ Yeah — ” She lifted a hand apologetically. “ That was my fault. I meant it as a joke, but it looks like she took it seriously. ” More of a half joke. Nobara noted that the rocks wouldn’t hit him, and she couldn’t exactly argue with the logic. There was a part of Jett that expected the kid to respect Gojo more than that though. “ Sorry… ”

However, she was curious about something. “ How long was she throwing them at you? Nobara seems like the stubborn type. So if you didn’t put a stop to it, I could see her trying for quite a while. You’re here now, so it obviously stopped. ”

" Thank you. "Jett clicked her tongue, striking a pose for the curse. Always playing the fashion police, this one. Their standard approach was sending her photos they took of her from a distance with their critique. Normal people would find this off putting — threatening even. However, Jett is far from normal. At this point, it has become a game between the two of them. If she's noticed their presence, she'll do something goofy for them to photograph. Mahito's strange friendship was something she was growing to value. Even if something deep in her gut was telling her not to trust them.

Smack echoed across the room as a foot crashed onto the sleeping woman’s face. Well that’s a rude awakening. “ What the fuck? ” A logical response to being kicked awake. Pushing the offending limb out of the way, her eyes followed the path of the leg. At the end of it was a man — hanging partially off of the bed. Well — the logistics make sense now.

Why is she in bed with a man? Wait a fucking second — this is her hotel room, right? She can tell by the novelty frog shaped night light on the desk. So, let’s rephrase the question. Why the fuck is there a man in her bed? And now that she thinks about it, why is she sor— oh.

That’s right. They met on a dating app. Now that’s she’s awake, it’s all coming back. Jett can kind of see the take out container from the bakery they went to. The sweet tooth version of wining and dining, I guess. They talked for a bit. Afterwards, they went back to her hotel room and — !

Okay — okay. That’s enough going over the details. Mystery solved, this was a morning after situation. It looks like he decided to stay the night. “ That’s fine — I guess. ” She muttered to herself. The damage (to her face) is already done. How is she going to get dressed without making this even more weird? Should she just hang out until he wakes up? Damn it— this is her first time doing any of this shit. How do people do this on a regular basis— it’s awkward.

Hearing her partner in crime starting to stir, she peaked over. Taking in the visage of a shirtless man with white, shaggy hair. Although, she imagines it doesn’t usually look that messy. When he’s finally upright, she decides to poke fun at him.

With her fear of heights, Jett has no idea why she agreed to do this. There she dangled, held up by the man's single hand. Honestly, that was impressive in itself. Exactly how strong is string bean? Before she could shoot a quip, they were levitating. " Fuck — this is worse than I thought! " She queaked, covering her eyes.

“ c’mon, i’ll go slowly. ” his hand is wrapped around their waist, gripping it as hard as he possibly can, a silent reassurance that he’s got them. before they can even give him a yes or no, they’re both slowly ascending, slowly getting higher and higher. “ i’ve got you, i promise i won’t let go. ”

" I'm not exactly raring to be the first. " She won't admit it out loud, but the embrace was actually helping. It at least felt like there was more support — more wiggle room before potentially falling to her doom. With a huff, she found the courage to open her eyes. They were not that high up. About the height of a small tree. " Wow — Gojo..."

" I have to say — this reenactment of Aladdin sucks. " Jett quipped, finally laughing. Looks like she's starting to calm down. " You better not start singing A Whole New World or some shit like that. "

“ c’mon… you’re a pro at this already. don’t think that way. ” he can’t help but laugh at her reaction, as he pulls her into a protective embrace. their movements come to a halt, they’re no longer ascending, they’re just dangling there. “ you should have more faith in me. i’ve never dropped anyone before. ”

Instead of an adult response, Jett proceeded to dramatically sniffle. Giving him the best sad puppy dog eyes she could muster. " What look are you talking about? "

"Is my little brother upset? Here, I thought you would be happy to see me. The navigator is."

“ i didn’t think they’d let scum walk around so freely. ”

Jinbe could not stop the chuckle as he watched the antics on the deck. There was something relaxing about the chaos that was Luffy and his friends, their crew. He still could hardly believe it, the fact that he was able to do something for himself for the first time in his memory. He had always been one to make the self sacrifice, to do what was best for others rather than himself. "Is it always like this?" he asked Nico Robin, who was not far from him, also observing the chaos below.
