Paracas, elongated heads.

Oficialmente, muito tempo antes da nossa era, crianças selecionadas sofriam essa mutação de alongar suas cabeças, com instrumentos físicos, para destacarem-se socialmente. As pesquisas apontam que os funerais dessas pessoas possuiam características diferentes das demais.

Não é um costume isolado de um povo apenas, na América, crânios com esta características foram encontrados entre os maias na Mesoamérica, os incas da América Andina, os chinook da costa noroeste dos Estados Unidos e os choctaw, da costa sudeste. No Velho Mundo, foram encontrados fósseis entre os povos alanos do planalto do Irã, dos hunos e algumas tribos germânicas também adotaram esse costume. Entre os egípcios, seus sítios arqueológicos também encontram crânios deformados.

It is not an isolated custom of just one people, in America, skulls with this characteristics were found among the Mayans in Mesoamerica, the Incas of Andean America, the Chinook of the northwest coast of the United States and the Choctaw, of the southeast coast. No Velho Mundo, os alanos do planalto do Irã, os hunos e algumas tribos germânicas também adotaram esse costume. Também foram encontrados essas deformações cranianas entre os nativos do Taiti, Samoa e Havaí.

Alguns seguem teorias de que esses ancestrais eram extraterrestres, uma mentira cabeluda. É uma técnica praticada entre os mangbetus, da República Democrática do Congo, e os vanuatu, na Melanésia (a noroeste da Austrália). Para os Vanuatu, a pessoa com cabeça alongada era considerada sábia e mais próxima do mundo dos espíritos.

Some follow theories that these ancestors were extraterrestrials, a big lie. It is a technique practiced among the Mangbetus, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Vanuatu, in Melanesia (northwest of Australia). For the Vanuatu, a person with an elongated head was considered wise and closer to the world of spirits.
