"Oh, have I heard so many good things about you," he says with a grin. "I'm glad you've decided to find new things for yourself--I've been there, I am too. But honestly? I think leading a mass uprising to overthrow your oppressors was very, very sexy of you~"

Well, someone just threw Volo a wink.

Oh, now look at the way he visibly puffs up with pride at hearing that…From such a fine and accomplished old man, no less!

"Why of course~" he says. "Anyone with any modicum of knowledge about the world I come from would know about me. And it is simply impossible to speak of the fight for the rights of my peoples without mentioning my name. As soon as I arrived in your world and learned you had done similar things for the sake of your own, I wanted nothing more than the honor of meeting you…Especially since it's just as special to meet someone as gorgeous as yourself."

He doesn't know all of Magneto's past deeds; otherwise, this first meeting might have gone very differently. But when he hears of the existence of a hot revolutionary, his sense of caution tends to go out the window.

Magneto smirks, his eyes shimmering with curiosity. After all, while he is now willing to work such that humans and mutants can coexist - primarily through giving mutants a home of their own, away from anti-mutant groups - it does not mean he entirely regrets all of the steps he's taken to ensure mutants' rights.

"Do you, now? It's high praise, coming from you. You're quite the looker yourself ... And quite the protector of your kind, too, I presume."

"Wasn't Magneto right, though?" Volo says sourly. "Not about his mistreatment of you--no, never. But about the need for violence to dismantle oppressive human power structures against mutantkind? Absolutely. Maybe both you and my therapist ought to read more revolutionary theory. I have a few books I've written that I could recommend."

"You're kind of proving your therapist right, you know." A pause. "Also, you sound like Papa."

Volo narrows his eyes briefly before his expression softens into one of deep thought. He doesn't blame Magneto for giving up his ways of violence--that sort of headspace is exceedingly difficult to constantly be in--but when he has bad mental health days he thinks perhaps the iconic master of magnetism has gone too far in the opposite direction. Still, though, he figures he has to take it down a few notches. He doesn't want to ruin the bond with his sort-of-son-in-law before it can even really form.

"Well, it is true that perhaps mutants and humans can coexist. I once thought that Yumeans and the ethnic groups of non-Yumeans who had historically oppressed us could not coexist as well, until the harmonious mingling of our groups in my communes proved me wrong. Still, though. Even if Magneto's goal is no longer for mutants to dominate humans, you must agree he needs to do something more if humans once again threaten mutant safety.

"Any revolutionary knows that the sole point of using peaceful methods is to send a message to your oppressors that you are giving them one--one--chance to change their ways. If they do not listen now, you will use violence later. Your father told me that he told the world's leaders, 'I am trying to be better. Please, do not make me let you down.' As far as I see it, he has given them that sole chance, and I doubt he will give them another. What do you suppose happens whe--if they actually do the things that would make him let them down? Do you really expect him to do nothing and simply accept that they may do the same again?"

…Well, that isn't exactly taking it down a few notches, but it's Volo. What else can one expect?

On the other hand, though, Quicksilver did hint at a more personal side to his view on the conflict. And, well, Volo loves hearing himself talk, so he's got to keep going to address that as well.

"I certainly understand, though, if you wish to prioritize your bond with your father over further participating in the liberation of mutants. I myself have fought long and hard for the liberation of my own peoples and every other people group like them, so much so that I've decided for the best interests of my mentaI health I need to leave the rest of the struggle to the generations I've taught to carry it out. It's why I haven't caused any good trouble here, even though I'm sure I'm needed."

He speaks as though he decided this all on his own, as though he didn't literally have to be shouted down and battled multiple times into staying away from the cause that was causing him harm. He speaks as though he wouldn't pick up his struggle once more against the interests of his mental health and the wishes of everyone around him if the world pushed him far enough. In time, if they form a real family bond, he may reveal some of these things to Quicksilver. But that time is not now.

"But it is true that in times of war and political conflict, personal relationships often fall by the wayside." He can actually think of a time that political conflict caused a relationship of his to completely break down, but he's not saying that out loud either. "I don't know everything about you, but I know you've lived a hard life as I have; at the end of the day, family always comes first. It's okay to choose family over The Cause in this way. And as your will-be stepfather, I'm proud of you for making that choice."

Quicksilver crosses his arms, looks away from Volo. How he hates this 'Magneto Was Right' debate. "Papa himself isn't using violence against humanity anymore; he's trying to get mutants to coexist with humans. It's why the United Nations pardoned him and why the X-Men accepted his leadership."

And, well, it's also the only reason it's even possible for Magneto and Quicksilver to make amends, given that Magneto's children had left his side to escape his more inhumane methods, among other reasons.

"Besides, I'm not interested in 'revolutionary theory.' I just want Papa to give a shit about me."

Tucked underneath one arm is a dome-shaped package, inside which is a helmet in the colors of the bisexual flag. Underneath that package is a box containing an even more bisexual suit than that which Magneto already wears, in a color gradient of the bi flag as a base with golden geometric patterns in the style of old Celestican runic depictions of Pokémon, but bearing the images of a Pokémon that only the descendants of the old Celestica got to see: Shiny Magneton.

Steel and Electric for Volo :3

(I'm going to have it that Volo actually writes down these lists for Magneto, maybe inspired by Magneto he'll actually start training some of these Pokémon!)

STEEL

Magnezone--it's the Magneto Pokémon, his team would be incomplete without it. Included on the Steel type team because it's always read as more Steel than Electric to him.

Empoleon--as a man of Hisui/Sinnoh, can't go wrong with a Sinnoh starter

Bastiodon--Fossil Pokémon are part of the history of his region, he would be remiss without including a piece of Sinnohese history on his team

Aegislash--competitive boss that goes great on just about any team, also a Ghost, which he likes

Mawile--given Volo's own Big Yokai Energy, it would be no wonder that he would befriend another Pokémon that's similar to a yokai

Hisuian Goodra--one might not picture him with one of these, since they are very even-tempered Pokémon, but heck, he probably already has one because due to their friendliness he might trust them more around his kids than other dragons

ELECTRIC

Ampharos--he has a few heirloom Ampharos breeds living on his family farm, he could easily add one to his team. Having an Electric/Dragon Mega form is a plus.

Naharyeh--an Electric four-winged lion fakémon I created deeply associated with Yumeans, they are the Pokémon of those who have made outstanding contributions to the Yumean community

Rotom--he needs a ghost as mischievous as he is, and he could use the help in becoming more technomagically savvy

Eelektross--he loves weird, "gross" and unconventional Pokémon, and one with no weaknesses is even better

Pawmot--one of the biggest MVPs of Gen 9, Volo would have heard stories of its power from Paldea and would be eager to add one to his team

Heliolisk--dragons by virtue of being in the Dragon Egg Group

Is he serious? Is he bored? Wallace doesn't care. As the expert in the field he's the best in, he wants to put this ignorant uncultured braggart in his place!

"Being the demonstrably fastest person alive is one thing. Being the demonstrably best Coordinator alive is another. Speed is measured objectively--all it takes is a measuring implement to confirm who is the fastest. The merit of performance art, however, is measured subjectively--so for so many people to all agree that I am the greatest in my field who ever was is an accomplishment BEYOND the scope of what a simple stopwatch can measure. Mind your tongue, fool!"

He has no idea how big of a sore spot he just hit by downplaying what Pietro is proudest of about himself. But frankly, even though he just told Pietro to mind his tongue, he's too pissed to mind his own.

"You're not the greatest coordinator to ever live, though. And I am actually the fastest person alive, so I'm an expert on superlatives."

Is he serious? Is he bored? Only Quicksilver knows.
