Oliver Marks - Tumblr Posts
Oliver gets into the first bus he finds and drives straight to James when he figures it all out. James and Oliver live happily ever after together in an old library.
Exeunt omnes.
no bc the bi panic oliver mustโve been feeling when he saw both his crushes hate making out with each other
bruh, my friend just referred to James and Oliver as a bromance
Oliver was gaslighting himself so hard it seeped through the pages and made me question my own sanity
okay I'm literally at page 218 of 'if we were villains' and can't take this anymore, I don't get if oliver is just dumb or what.
YOU'RE BEST FRIEND JUST KISSED A GIRL AND AND YOUR STOMACH HURTS FROM JEALOUSY???
this boy is not only dumb but BLIND, for all the fucking book so far he was always like "yea I really like meredith, but if someone ever try to get near my james I'll beat them to death, no one is allowed to touch or look at him." WHY DON'T YOU ASK YOURSELF SOME QUESTIONS DEAR OLIVER..
the closet is a window but he lives in a house without light.

You did what Rachel
Theory for โIf we were villainsโ
TW: mentions of suicide and just general If we were villains angst
After Richard (who once again was being an asshole) tried to drown James in the lake and everyone else has left, an interaction between James and Oliver occurs. Now I -like many others- am a firm believer that James is still alive and I believe that this is even more proof than we already have:
โYou want me to stayโ I asked. I didnโt want to leave him.
โPlease,โ he said, in a small voice. โI just couldnโt deal with the rest of them, for a whileโ
This book is littered with foreshadowing throughout and Iโm certain that this is a perfect example. This scene is a way of proving that Jamesโ suicide note was in fact a clue for Oliver. Let me explain:
In both scenarios James has been drowned, once by Richard and once in a supposed suicide. Already this links the two scenes but it goes further. In the scene above after James has been submerged he lets the others in the group head back to the castle but asks Oliver to stay, and I believe that he is doing the same thing with his suicide note. The letter he sends is not only addressed for Oliver only, but it includes an extract that is important to his and Oliverโs relationship, that letter and the message hidden within it was something that James knew only Oliver would see. By using the extract of Pericles he sends out a message he knows Oliver would see as a clue.
The parallel between the two scenes is undeniable. Both times James has been submerged (literally or not) and has kept himself and his emotions hidden away from his group all whilst quietly begging Oliver -his lover- to stay and help him.

All three of us were silent for a moment before Filippa said, โWell, this explains a lot.โ
Oliver: James, this is not you. You're not a murderer.
Meredith: He just confessed to killing my boyfriend!
Oliver: I know, I mean deep down.
I've had "If we were villains" on my tbr for so long, and everytime I see a post about it I get really excited to read it but then I remember all the school work I have to do and I just want to cry

I have yet to see a take on If We Were Villains that isn't either negative, related to The Secret History, or both. So here's mine. SPOILERS
First, I've seen some hate for Meredith and the other girls. Why? I understand that Meredith "betrayed" James and in that betrayed Oliver, but she was only trying to protect him and their friends. She didn't do it out of jealousy, she did it out of love.
If you must hate on Meredith for being jealous the least you can do is admit that you would be too. The guy your with, and perhaps even love, is obviously in love with another person despite choosing you. And that person is in love with him too. How would you feel?
In a perfect world Oliver and James would be together and Meredick would live happily ever after with no abuse or darkness of any kind. But the book isn't about a perfect world, it's about being doomed and making the best out of the situation. Meredith and Oliver found the best in each other, especially at the end of the book. While keeping James's death, we couldn't have asked for a better ending. Oliver loves Meredith more than he could love anyone outside of James, and she loved him for who he was and is.
Okay maybe I just wanted to rant about Meredith and he relationship with Oliver! But I never see posts about it! All I see is aesthetic boards, and while beautiful, aren't what I'm looking for!
I understand that If We Were Villains and The Secret History are practically the same, everyone points if out, but I have no interest in TSH and I never will. Somebody please get it.
I just know ill be the Richard Papen/ Oliver Marks of any friend circle in that the bitchiest person will be murdered and I will be told three months that everyone else did it during a dinner and will have to Deal With It and try not to get blamed for it
