listen having a favourite character is just embarrassing sometimes. yeah that’s my specialest little blorbo. yeah I’ve read every word of their stuff. yeah I think about them 24/7. yeah I project all my issues onto them and write fanfiction about them and have multiple playlists dedicated to them. I do sometimes ponder what mq's asceticism does to him. I think it really has very little to do at this point with his cultivation I think he's an old enough powerful enough god that it won't kill him and it won't even phase him much to break it BUT he sticks to it anyway bc 1) habit 2) he's not attracted to women at all 3) even if he's attracted to men sexually his desires are so fine-tuned and specific that functionally the juice is not worth the squeeze 4) he thinks it's "vulgar" 5) you think he'd give up even an inch of any advantage for no good reason such as "because it might make him happy"???? get a grip. no not on his c- 6) control of his own body and agency is extremely important for him 7) oh the Shame of want 8) as mentioned in another post he thinks everything is about domination which can be a sign of projection or neuroticism 9) who would he give it up to / do it with? would that person even understand the weight and magnitude of that decision? the willing admission of vulnerability? 10) he'll never lose his virginity bc he never loses period [said guy who loses like 50% of his battles]

my personal hc is that mq has had feelings for fx since they were mortals but combined with literally everything that happened and also his personality he just repressed it and tries his best not to remember that he feels that way (we all know how mu qing deals with his feelings)

in contrast, i think fx has always cared for mq and mq has always held a special place in his heart (they got the rival thing going on) but it is not the same way that mq feels, nor is it explicitly romantic. i think he figures out way later (post canon and slowly healing and moving on from jian lan (who i know he genuinely loved)) what mq really means to him (and also that he has had a type this entire time)

i definitely explore this idea more in a modern au setting but that’s what i thought abt when making this
