!!4am rant incoming!!
When I say boast I'm not talking about my prime minister, or the military or politics or shit like that (though the military might have a few good points maybe? sometimes?)
I mean the history. It's so wild to me that this country, that I came from—my country—has such a cool history, and I havent even started about the culture. I can't imagine being from another country because then I wouldn't have any cool history stories
And what really pisses me off is that I don't know many good facts about Pakistan because nobody in this country fucking tells you anything. I know we have a rich history, one that you could spend hours reading about, but nobody tells you anything of any worth because they're too busy preparing you to move out of the country??
Yes I know there were mughal emperors, I know their religion and birth date and who died and who was who's son, but what about their achievements??? No I don't want to be given an offhand list of things they built, go in depth, tell me why and how and for who. Tell me about their daughters who were poets or...
See, I don't know what to add there ro complete the sentence, because I don't know shit about my own country
Search it up? Do you know how hard that is? Where do I start? What was the beginning? Was there an end? You search one mughal emperor up and suddenly everyone's giving shit about whether they were a good emperor or how they could've done things better. I literally do not care, tell me what they did do
Tell me about our poets and sufis and, not just the popular ones but the small ones, the obscure ones who people loved but couldn't get their names marked in our school textbook
And then how much history is distorted? We went to interior lahore once, and we went to this museum. The person who ran the museum was a direct decendant of the doctor(I think, it was a while ago I'm not quite sure) of one of the most hated Kings that ruled the Indian subcontinent. He told us how half the stories of him were completely taken out of context, and heknows this because his ancestors saw it happen
He could be lying. The history books could be lying. We don't fucking know
I havent even started about our more recent history. The Indians have Mr Ghandi while we have Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who the entire nation calls Quaid-e-Azam (Quaid meaning leader, Azam meaning great).
Our national poet, Allama Iqbal, gave the idea for a separate state for the Muslims when India was still a subcontinent rules by the British. He gave the idea becauseit came to him in a dream (or so I've been told). And according to my grandmother, her aunt was neighbors with him.
History is so weird but I want to know everything. I want to connect with my culture and that's so much harder than it should be??
I lived in England for 7 years and now I'm shit at URDU, my own language, and it drives me insane. I can't speak Urdu because I know I sound weird and once again, it drives me fucking insane knowing that not only do I know so little about my history but I can't even speak my own language.
In conclusion: if anybody from India is reading this please hmu I am SO curious about what they teach yall in school. I wanna know how you see our history, given that we literally lived on the same land up until like seven decades ago
The Pakistani urge to boast about my country even though we're in absolute shit right now
He couldn't move. His heart beating faster than ever.
His mind could only focus on his breathing, now faster and deeper, numbing any other sound as if he was alone in a dark room.
The scene before him blurring as the tears came in, flooding his eyes.
