This is why you notice when that boy isn't there... You frown. You know you should leave it be, but you're curious.... You look around for him, to no avail. You only achieve getting frustrated and being late for school. You curse yourself quietly and run to school, but you're still alert, so when you pass an ally, you pick up a quiet, "please...." You stumble to a stop, heart pounding. Was that your imagination? You turn and walk slowly back, listening. You hear a woman gasp, "no, it wasn't personal! We're from different mafias... I had to..." You recognise his voice instantly, "yeah? Well this is nothing personal.... we're from different mafia.... I have to...." You freeze when you see a woman on her knees, in front of the boy. He's holding a gun to her head... His gaze flicks to you and the woman takes the opportunity to snatch the gun, pointing it back at him. He freezes, cursing quietly. You cover your mouth. The woman smirks, "have you even killed anyone before?" The boy doesn't respond, watching her. She turns the gun on you. "Wait! Dont kill-" with lightening speed she whips back around and the gun goes off. You scream as he jerks back, grabbing his shoulder, and falls to his knees. The woman laughs, "you have a crush?" The boy clutches his shoulder, panting. You whimper softly and he gasps, "no... but.... she's not a part of the mafia... She's a citizen... If you kill her, you'll be wanted for murder... not.... that it would matter.... but if you're in jail.... I can't kill you..." the woman crouches down, pressing the gun under his chin. He tilts his head back, Adam's apple bobbing. Her eyes run down his throat, to his chest. You can't help but follow her gaze. He has a very nice throat.... and chest... her eyes flick back up to his face, and your eyes flick to hers. She says, "nice jacket..." he stiffens slightly. She says, "i want it. Give it to me." Your heart starts hammering. You know what this is. A power play. You've seen it in school. Older kids would make the younger ones give them their juice, there toys, or make them go to dump their tray for them. Someone showing someone else that they're the dominant one.... the boys jaw clenches and he slowly slides the jacket off his shoulders, wincing as it brushes his bullet wound, then let's it slip down his arms. He pulls his hands out of it, careful to keep the arms from going inside out, and slowly hands it to her. Your eyes involuntarily go to his arms. He has nice arms too. You can't help but notice the veins sticking out, running down to his fingers. He's tense, so it makes the muscles and blood veins even more exaggerated. You drag your eyes back to the woman, feeling stupid for being distracted by a cute boy while you're in this situation. She takes it, examines it, and spits, "it's got a fucking hole in it...", looking at the bullet hole. She drops it on the ground and pulls out a lighter. The boy shifts forward a little, making a quiet noise. The woman jabs the gun deeper under his chin and he swallows, watching her light the lighter and drop it on the coat. Your heart hammers wildly. He stares as the coat burns....
“Lay on your stomach and hide your face.” The boy hesitated and the woman cocked the gun. The boy slowly laid on his stomach, crossed his arms, and buried his face in them. The girl knelt by him and patted him down, fingers trailing to a stop on his butt. He tenced. You held your breath. Her fingers slid in his back pocket, pulling out his wallet. You let out your breath slowly. She took out the money and tossed the wallet on his back, then got up, “Don't move. The only reason you're still alive is because you're that bastard’s son.” The boy stiffened, curling his hands into tight fists. The woman walked off. The boy didn't move until she was completely gone, then he sat up and grabbed his shoulder, glaring after her, breathing in shallow pants. You sank to the ground, your legs no longer having any strength left in them. The boy looked at you, “you need to get out of here…” He sounded very tired. You broke into a laugh. Your legs just gave way and he expects you to get up and leave? No sir. You'll be here a while… he frowns, watching you laugh. You stop abruptly, realising how inappropriate it is to be laughing in this situation. You say quietly, chills going down your spine, all traces of laughter suddenly gone, “Were you really gonna kill her?” The boy shrugs, “I am now.” You look down and whisper, “I don't want you to be a murderer…” Now it's his turn to laugh. “I'm the son of the leader of the biggest mafia in town! How am I not supposed to, eventually, earn that title?” You look at him, “so you haven't killed anyone yet?” He shrugs and looks away, “There hasn't been a need to…”
“You say that like it's shameful. You should be ashamed of killing, not not killing…”
The boy laughs, looking at you. His eyes are cruel, mocking, “Yeah, if you're a coward. We have a tally, see who can kill the most enemies.” Your lips twist, “That's sick.” He smirks, shrugging, “Not for me.” You shake your head and slowly get up, “Do you have a phone on you?” The boy looks suspicious, “Yeah, why?” “Just making sure you can get a hold of someone.” You slowly walk off, wishing you would have never went looking for him.
So... that boy is still there... as well as that huge guy by him. They still chat like old friends. He still annoys the tar out of you. You stalk past him everyday. Every time you see him his words flash through your mind 'Yeah if you're a coward. A whimp. We have a tally, see who can kill the most enemies' You shudder, pushing your hands deep in your pockets. You hate this. Why did this have to happen to you? Couldn't he just stay a hot boy who you don't like that leans against the wall of a street you go down on the way to school? You kick a rock angrily, quickening your pace. Life is so unfair.
You're walking home from school when you see the boy looking out into the crowd. His face lights up. You freeze. You've never seen him look genuinely happy before.... A boy breaks away from the crowd and heads over to him. He's shorter than him, also blond, but with gold eyes. He has a small frame, very similar to the boy's. He stops in front of him, head down, facing away from you, so you can't see his expression, but the boy's eyes soften and he pulls him into a hug. The smaller boy grabs his shirt tightly and his shoulders shudder, as though he's crying. The boy watches him fondly, then his lips move. He's too far away for you to hear what he's saying, but he pulls the smaller boy away from him and slides his shirt off his shoulder, revealing the bandage over his bullet wound. His lips move again. You catch the, "see? I'm fine..." The smaller boy grabs his shirt again hides his face in it. The other laughs, pulling him away again and saying something to him. The smaller boy nods and he ruffles his hair. The smaller boy ducks his head. The other says something else and the smaller boy hugs him tightly, then runs off. You wonder over to the boy, "I didn't know you had a brother...." The boy looks at you, suddenly guarded again, "......Yeah...... so?" You shrug, "It's just surprising...." You don't know why you're even here. You don't like him. But something about seeing him soft and caring makes you more curious about him. "He's not really mafia material is he?" You blurt it out without thinking. The boy bristles, "So what? Just cuz you're born into a mafia doesn't mean you HAVE to be one. If he decides to do something else I'm fine with it." You nod quickly, "Ok. I'm sorry. That was stupid of me to say..." "yeah. It was." He brushes past you and stalks off, leaving you, once again, wishing you would have never approached him....
You take a deep breath as you walk to school. It's been a few weeks since the argument. You had started noticing the boy's brother at school. He's very shy and often at the butt of everyone's jokes. He tends to hide in corners and sit by himself. But today you're going to change that. Your class is going to have a group project and, since he's in the same class, you're going to make sure to be in the same group. Then you'll be able to talk to him and get to know him. You glance at his brother nervously. It'll be easy. The argument you two had flashes through your mind. You really don't want to be around him, and becoming friends with his brother will make that very hard to avoid, but his brother is so lonely. You take another deep breath, bracing yourself. You're just going to have to deal with it...
You glance at the boy on your way to school. You stop when you see his brother standing next to him, talking. It's been a week since you started your project with his brother. You've managed to make him your grudging friend, which you're excited about. You walk over to them and his brother breaks off whatever he was saying and looks at you. You smile, "hey. What's up?" He shrugs, "nothing. Just saying by to Junior." You blink, "Your names Junior?" Junior glares at his brother, who immediately shrinks, cheeks burning red, "s-s-sorry...." Junior looks at you, "So? It's none of your business." You shrug, "There's nothing wrong with it. I was just surprised." Junior glares, "it's still none of your business." You sigh and look at his brother, "Come on. We're gonna be late." He hesitates, glancing at Jr. Jr nods at him and he hurries over. You walk to school, shaking your head. Why does he have to be such a jerk?
You leave school and immediately search out Jr, dragging his brother along with you. Once you find him, hanging out near a club, you grab his arm. He jerks away immediately, snapping, "The Hell do you want?" You glare and say back sternly, "Me and your brother are friends. That means me and you are at least going to have to get along. So I'm FORCING us to hang out. Come on." He glares, "Why should I?" "What if me and your brother get close? What if we start DATING? Don't you wanna atleast half know his girlfriend?" You're actually pretty sure there's zero chance of that, but you fire it off anyway. His brother goes beat red and Jr is suddenly interested, "Dating huh? I didnt know there was a chance...", eyeing his brother. His brother shrinks under his gaze. You nod, "Yeah. So come on." He hesitates, but eventually gives in, following you to a cafe…
You sit at the cafe and sip your coffee awkwardly. Jr watches judgementaly. His brother sits quietly, pushing a crumb around his plate with his finger. You clear your throat, "so..." Jr raises an eyebrow. His brother looks up. You smile, "what do you guys do together?" Jr shrugs, "brother stuff I guess..." His little brother goes back to his crumb. You sigh, "you know it'd be nice if you would help me break the ice." Jr shrugs again, "Wasn't my idea to come here.", putting his hands in his lap. You sigh again and get up, going to get a refill. You feel juniors eyes burning into your back as you walk off.
When you get back Jr and his brother are talking quietly. Jr looks up and his brother looks down. You resist the urge to shake your head. He's so shy... You sit down and sip your drink. Jr smiles a fake smile, "do you have a sibling?" His arm moves and he glances down in his lap. You flare up. Stupid boy is playing on his phone under the table. You bite your cheek so as not to snap at him, then say, "No I don't. Its just me and my mom." He nods, looking back up at you, "Wheres your dad?" You glare, "You know, MOST people try to be gentle on the subject of parents being gone, or just avoid it completely." He shrugs, going back to his phone, "I have never once tried to fool you into thinking I was most people. Nor did I try to convince you I was nice..." You glare, "I dont know where he is. He left when I was, like, two." He nods, "That sucks." His brother sighs softly. You glare, "Yeah, well, we make it work. What about you? Wheres your mom?" He smirks, "cooking supper. Preparing to beat my ass cuz I'm not home." You burst out an unwilling laugh. The thought of him being chased by his mom is just hilarious. It's so different than the tough persona he puts on. His brother pushes his plat away, crosses his arms on the table, and buries his face in them. You frown, "What's wrong?" He shakes his head, "Just tired..." Its muffled and quiet. You keep frowning, but don't say anything. Jr, however, grins, "Dont fall asleep. We're probably gonna be here awhile." You scowl at him, "What's that supposed to mean?" Jr shrugs, "We're trying to get to know eachother right? That could take a while." You shrug and sip your drink. You sit in awkward silence, broken occasionally by short bursts of conversation. It's dark by the time you finally get up, ready to go, "I guess I'll see you tomorrow..." Jr nods, "ready to go?", looking at his brother, who stirs a little and nods into his arms. You wave, "Bye..." And leave. This is gonna be so hard. But he really needs a friend…
You walk to school with Jr's brother, glancing at Jr as you pass him. He's watching his brother intently. You look at his brother, "How do you manage to get along with Jr? I'm trying, really, but I feel like I'm getting no where..." He shrugs, smiling a small smile, "I guess it's different when you're together all the time... Just be persistent is the only advice I can give you..." You nod and keep walking. Persistence. You can do that. You press your lips together. After school you'll figure out something else to do with him. You can do this…
You run up to Jr, "let's go to the park!" Jr sighs heavily, but you grab his hand and drag him along. You had considered seriously what you should do with him all through school. Obviously the coffee shop hadn't been a good idea. He wasn't going to tell you what be enjoyed, of course, so you would just have to figure it out by process of elimination. Coffee shop was already eliminated. Next up, park. Besides. Jr's out of school, he's already done all this crap, and you really need help... You reach the park and plop on the bench, "I need help with my homework." Jr scoffs, "Like I know any of that." You pout and he sighs, sitting by you. You resist the urge to grin, one win for you. You show him your homework and he sighs heavily but starts explaining it. You lose track of time as he walks you through your homework. You're brought back to reality by his brother muttering, "I need help too..." Jr laughs and goes over to him immediately. You follow and help him explain things to his brother. By the time you decide to go home, it's getting dark. You wave, beaming. This went way better than expected. You practically skip home, admiring the raise of sunlight streaking across the sky as the sun goes down. Maybe this won't be so hard after all…
Jr still looks angry on the way to school the next day. He's got his arms crossed and is glaring at the ground. You walk over to him, "Hey..." His brother slips out from behind you, but retreats quickly when Jr lays his seering gaze on him. "Could you not bother me for one day?", Jr says shortly. You frown, "Why are you upset? Did it almost get you last night? That woul-" "HE." "What?" You frown. "He," Jr repeats, "It was a he, not an it." You blink, guilt creeping up your spine, "O-oh... Yeah, sorry, I know. I- did he almost get you?" Jr runs his hands through his hair, "NO. God damn it can you just LEAVE ME ALONE?" You take a step back, "What's your problem?" Jr snorts, "Nothing. You wouldn't care. Just go to school. You're gonna be late." You open your mouth and he snarls, "Get!" You jump and scurry off, his brother hot on your heels. You wait until you're a safe distance, then turn to his brother, "What's his problem?" He looks down, "He just.... Doesnt appreciate how werewolves are treated..." You raise an eyebrow, "JR, the snobby, full of himself, I'm better than you boy, is a free animal advocate?" Jr's brother shrugs, "Yeah, so?" You frown, "Does he not realize they could WIPE OUT THE CITY?" He looks down, uncomfortable, "Not ALL werewolves are bad..." You stare, "Maybe they're not bad PEOPLE, but they can't control themselves! Come the full moon they become killers!" He glares, "I KNOW! Why dont you argue with my brother about it?!" You flinch, "Sorry... You're right. I shouldn't be taking my frustration at him out on you." He nods and you go to your seat. You'll have to talk to him sometime about it.
