Io stiffens, her blood running cold...
The weight of the realization heavy. So, so heavy. How careless of her to drop her guard, a sting of regret seizing her. To think any creature isn't a ravenous, blood-thirsty beast.. to think, her Pikmin, so near to their demise. All because of her. "No...n-no, not again, no..." She could feel her lips imitate these words as if they were recited countless times before. The only sense of understanding she could grasp was her fears; now, all of them, laid out in front of her once more. It wasn't a nightmare, however, not the one's she had grown accustomed to; it was all real, a cruel twist of fate to watch play out. All over again. It felt as if the future of their lives were only heartbeats to an end and there would be no one else to blame; not the creature, not the Pikmin... never them, she stifled a noise to such a thought. But her. Io's vision narrowed. Her senses all numb, only that of which was the sediment beneath her. She couldn't hear anything, not the panicked cries of her Pikmin, not the seamless bellow of the fascinating creature before them. Only silence that became deafening. A scene Io beheld in dreadful clarity soon fell into darkness, one question ringing in her mind. One begging the retelling of a horrible story. It begs, "Will you do things differently?"

As Io awoke, the creature was no where to be seen. "Was it ever there?" She questioned. The only signs were of her Pikmin, now surrounding her with their wide and innocent eyes. She quickly scrambled up, feeling around as if her memory were tangible and scattered around her. Io counted each Pikmin, recalling that there had been... One, two, three... She twisted about and found the last Pikmin had clung to her arm, precious tears falling from its eyes. In a small breath, she managed a quiet, "Four..." That was when a sob arose, an unpleasant one, which soon clasped at her throat. Io grasped for these few Pikmin, hugging them closely, feeling the grief overwhelm her body. Sobs shaking both her and her Pikmin. Even through the protective material of her spacesuit, she felt the warmth of their bodies. A few Pikmin still wriggled about in the efforts to become comfortable, their chattering to one another causing Io's ears to prick up despite her mourning. Only the fourth Pikmin had been still, its nose in the nook of her neck. Outside of all the layers, her helmet... the golden band around her neck; she felt it. In all it's realness, warmth, liveliness; all of it in her arms. A new story to behold. A new lesson to learn. A new life to live with these few. Io squeezed them more closely, never wanting to let them go. An image soothed over her strain, one that revealed a future with these Pikmin. All of it, starting here.
