Birds of a Feather

Remember when I said this blog was supposed to be a junkyard for a story I'm writing? Yea, that's what this is. In the first draft of my story, I wrote a lot of cute shit that can be cut and posted here.

Background: This takes place in the early days of team seven when they were given D ranked missions.

Rating: PG/E for Everyone

Warnings: None, its cute fluffy shit.

Kakashi sat again in another tree, supposedly watching over his gaggle of genin tracking the lost bird of a lord. Sasuke looked as interested as the jonin did. Sakura looked the most determined out of them all and Naruto looked, well-

“Sakura get them off of me, PLEASE!”

“Idiot! I told you not to put bird food all over you. Now you have to deal with those birds yourself.”

“Both you idiots, stop making a ruckus. You’ll scare away the stupid bird we're looking for.” The Uchiha simply didn’t miss an opportunity to say something harsh. Teamwork, children, Kakashi internally shouted. It hasn’t been long since they did the bell test but it's apparent the lesson has faded to the back of their minds. Out the corner of his single visible eye, the jonin saw a bird that fits the description. It seemed interested in Naruto’s ingenious bird-food jacket.

If the other two stopped berating him they might notice the objective right above their knucklehead teammate. Kakashi gave the team walkie-talkies to communicate with each other, but where was the learning experience if he found the bird for them. Was it an excuse to continue reading in his tree while his students were distracted? Perhaps.

“I don't even remember what the stupid bird looks like!”

“Naruto, it's bright yellow with a blue belly. Do you seriously not remember?” Sakura shouted, the walkie-talkie null and void if they continued using this form of communication. Sasuke only huffed and headed further away from his team, and the bird they needed to find. The Uchiha couldn’t believe this was his first mission. So simple a pack of dogs could do it and yet his team has been out in the woods for the past half-day. The feudal lord comes back home tomorrow and the genin couldn't handle a failed mission on his file. His brother, the traitor, never had a failed mission. Anything Itachi can do, I can too!

“I found it! I found it! Look, Sakura! Aren't I amazing?” Naruto’s loud voice echoed through the foliage. He better have it, because he just scared every bird in a ten-kilometer radius.

Kakashi peeked down to where his students all met where Naruto stood when he claimed he found the bird. Even from his distance, the jonin knew it was all wrong.

“NARUTO!” Sakura couldn’t resist and kicked the blonde boy 3 meters back.

“That bird is blue with a yellow belly. You are such a loser.”

“And… that's not what the lord’s bird looks like?”

“IDIOT!” We’ll be here for a while, might as well get comfortable. While his team continued to scare all living creatures away, Kakashi slightly relaxed his form before turning to the next page.

"Your Mission Isn't Over."

Break the damn, expect a flood. Another reject piece from my first draft story. Rereading this, it's not as bad as I remembered.

Background: Early days Team 7 & Asumi(my OC) coming home after a mission. Sasuke just roasted Sakura.

Rating: PG/E for Everyone

Warning: Hinted strained relationship. Diet Hurt/Comfort.

“After a mission, the protocol is to drop off the mission report. Since I’m the leader, the duty would fall on me. But since this is your first mission, I think it's best to bring you all along to show you how it's done. Unless of course, you have plans.” The one-eyed shinobi looked at the only girl on his team with consideration. “Sakura, if you have plans with your family it's okay to leave now.”

“I...uh,” Sakura glanced at her crush who just shat on her feelings before looking at her sensei. His singular eye seemed to analyze her emotions. Next to her Naruto was already deeply inhaling the smell of ramen wafting down the streets. “Yes, I think I'll go home, sensei.”

Not surprised, the jonin nodded and reminded his pink-haired pupil what time they would be training tomorrow. The two boys followed Kakashi as he jumped to the roofs to the Hokage office. Sakura watched the departure before turning to head to her house, only to collide with an unsuspecting pedestrian. Great, just my luck. Sakura opened her mouth to apologize but the words died on her tongue at who she bumped into.

“Sarutobi-san.”

“Sakura.” Asumi’s tone held no previous hint of friendliness to her. Sakura fought to not grimace in the kunoichi’s face. Asumi’s expression was blank, more aloof than Kakashi and her eyes felt colder than Sasuke’s. She looks like an angel of death ready to reap my soul. With fear suddenly running through her veins, the young genin missed her senior speaking to her. Only when a single blue brow raised and brown eyes squinted did Sakura jumpstart.

“Sorry?”

“I said, where are you headed? I thought I heard your Kakashi-sensei say something about a mission report.”

“I.. uh yes, he did. But my parents, they are making uh, they’re making dinner and would be-"

“Angry if you were late?”

“Yes,” realizing what she said, Sakura's eyes widened before correcting herself. “No, I mean no, not angry. Just, uhm… sad?”

“Sad? Is that right?” When the young kunoichi nodded, the elder turned and walked in the direction of the Hokage building. Thinking they were done, Sakura turned in the opposite direction to continue her journey home. Man, I’m totally going to be late now. What was all the fuss about? That conversation, more like an interrogation, felt pointless.

“Sakura? Where are you going? Your mission isn't over.” Asumi called behind her, though she didn’t stop her walk, each step now holding purpose. Sakura stopped in her tracks. Her mission wasn’t over? What did that mean?

“Really Sakura, you can't be a good shinobi if you don't finish your mission to the very end. If you really needed to go home, I would understand. But,” Asumi stopped and turned to look at Naruto's crush. Her junior's stance and overall demeanor screamed insecurity. The noise and movement around them didn't stop but for that moment where Sakura’s ears strained to hear what the jonin would say next, it felt like time stopped.

“Your parents are no longer your highest authority. Not even the Hokage. The village you promised to protect is who you must answer to. If you feel like your mother and father won’t understand why you can’t make every dinner, then that requires a different discussion. The point is, you are a shinobi of the now. Not only that but this is your first mission. Personally, I think you should go to your team.”

Asumi sighed when the girl only stood there. Sensei she was not, Asumi mused. How does she get Sakura to understand what she was trying to say? The fact is once you get that headband, you’re basically an independent. Civilian households struggle with grasping that concept. Even genin, fresh graduates from the academy, receive payment to serve so with that, there needs to be a readjustment to the rules at home. The bluenette doesn't want Sakura to be disrespectful to her parents, but she needs to realize she herself is doing something that her parents have no control over. It’s not them that gets tossed into war and bloodshed.

“You're right, Sarutobi-san.” Slight shock flickered on bronze features before a big smile broke out. Sakura might not completely understand yet, but Asumi decided that they could continue to converse on the way to the Hokage building.

"I Think You Should Step Up And Call It Animal Abuse."

One of my favorite snippets from my 1st draft. Honestly, might rewrite it and work it into the new plot.

Background: Honestly, I think it's better without context. Guess I should let yall know Asumi is not black, but she is a colored. As in, she's the same color as Asuma and Hiruzen.

Rating: PG/E for everyone

Warning: None. Cute shit.

“That's fine, seeyouthenAsumi.” He jumped out the window. Oh dear, what has Asumi done to him? The door had been closer and yet he dove face-first out the building. Luckily, he is good at his job so he lands without a hair out of place.

Asumi and Hiruzen peer out the window at the retreating silver-haired figure. When he goes beyond their vision both Sarutobi turn and look at each other.

“So, anyway. Here is the response from the kazekage.” As much as Asumi wants to discuss what just happened, it's best to get work out the way first. Sadly her uncle didn’t get the memo.

“I’ve known Kakashi Hatake for a very long and I don't think I’ve ever seen him so..” the third trails off trying to find the right description.

“Flustered?”

“Hmm, that's not quite the word but yes, flustered.” Hiruzen leans back in his chair to look at his niece. A mischievous glint in her eye shone for a brief moment, immediately putting the Hokage in distress. The same look her mother had before doing something reckless, dear Kami help us.

“Well, anyways. The scroll.”

“Yes, yes put it here and go to the financial office for payment.”

“Sure thing, Uncle. Well, I guess-

“Oh no, no no, no. Sit down, young lady. We need to have a conversation about whatever is going on between you and Kakashi.” The noble and honorable third Hokage is just an old man that lives for gossip, Asumi thinks before plopping down in a chair that's not nearly as comfortable as the one her uncle sits in.

“UNCLE! There is nothing to talk about.”

“He jumped out the window, Asumi. I didn't get this old by ignoring changes in my village personnel.” Hiruzen speaks calmly while his niece groans loudly and twists around in her chair to show her discontent for this discussion.

“I’ve only interacted with him twice. And one was today on the way here.”

“The other?” Hiruzen, you gossip whore.

“I dropped off food for Naruto and his team was still there.” The faintest blush appears from this inquisition.

“Maybe I should ask Asuma what is-

“No, this is probably nothing. Kakashi hasn’t seen me for twelve years so he’s just surprised I'm competent enough to do my job.

“Stop interrupting me before I make you find that Tora cat for the next 3 weeks.” Hiruzen speaks absentmindedly, already devoting his mind to a plan to get the two young adults together. Asuma is with Kurenai even though his son would deny it to his grave. So, the lord Hokage ponders, it was time to find Asumi someone.

“At this point, I think you should step up and call it animal abuse.”

“Asumi-”

“Can I go now? I have a bottle of sake calling my name.” Two sets of brown eyes stare each other down before the third Hokage relents and waves his hand to send his niece off.

“We’ll continue this later.”

“Sure, sure. See ya!” Hiruzen watches her leave through the door and when it slams closed he sighs in relief. I’m too old for this shit.
