I came up with a sans au multiverse. Basically if you eat one of Nightmare's apples you will only become corrupted if you can't control your emotions or are feeling extreme negative emotions when you eat it. Once you eat the negative apple there will be a corrupted version of yourself that stays in your head and will try to get you to let them take over and let them show you the truth. They'll make empty promises that always appeal to your preference. There are three types of corrupted people in this multiverse. The first have both eyes covered or forced closed these were the people who were unaware or just ignored the cause of they're negative emotions or just ignored the negative feelings themselves. The second have one covered or forced shut these were people who were aware and tried to get threw the cause without dealing with the emotions. The final type of corrupted people have both eyes uncovered and these were people who were painfully aware of the causes to their negative feelings and who have tried to fix themselves over and over again. They also tend to be the people who others go to with their problems.

this took… a turn that i was not expecting, but it was wonderful. i think it’s wonderful that they got their happy ending in the end, despite how they met (despite the history that they share, whatever ‘history’ it holds, at least for Yifan.) and Tao!!!! my lil bub, lil baby, lil troublemaker, i hope he takes care of his fish hahahahaha
As for Kris? well. i hope one day he finds it in himself to forgive the world, because it can’t be healthy for him to be holding such a grudge for the rest of his life.
