A sharp gasp and she covered her mouth. The gunshot still rang throughout the cold alley as Sonya Blade fired one bullet through young Kano’s eye, instantly killing him. She realized if young Kano was killed off in their current timeline... Then...
From her hiding spot, she watched her Kano let go of Johnny and wobbled around with the same gaping hole. The tears welled up fast in her eyes as she could barely hear him make a full sentence before turning towards her. She watched as he finally fell to the ground and became nothing but dust in the wind. “No... No no no...” She fell to her knees, trying to take in this reality that her boyfriend was taken from her, just like that.
The shock took her longer to process and she was already in so much grief, that she didn’t remember grabbing her dagger and screamed out in pure rage while running towards Sonya. “I’M GONNA FUCKIN’ KILL YOU, YOU BITCH!!” she screamed while jumping onto the woman. Sonya tried to hold her hand back as the two women fought and struggled, leaving Cassie and Johnny watching in utter shock.
While they fought, Sonya could feel tears continuously falling down onto her own cheeks. She saw that Zoey was crying, all while having her dagger so close to her throat. Her eyes were of her demon form ones and the pupils were slit thin like a cat’s. “I’ll fuckin’ kill you, you fuckin’ murderer!” Zoey hissed. “Z-Zoey! G-Get. Off!” Sonya begged. Zoey repeated herself before she felt a hand pull her back. “Zoey! That’s not gonna help you!” Kabal exclaimed. He held back the grieving half-demon while she spewed her hatred and threats towards the Special Forces general.
“Zoey, Zoey! That’s not gonna bring him back and you know it!” Kabal told her to her face while holding her wrists in his hands tightly. She fought with him now until Kabal gave up talking sense into her. “Haa... Fuck this.” He gave Zoey a big slap across the face, shocking anyone including the Cage family. He grabbed Zoey again by the arms and repeated himself. “Zoey. If you kill Sonya, this won’t bring Kano back, it would only make matters worse. I know you loved him, but taking revenge by killing Sonya won’t solve any of this.” He then thought of something.
“Look. We can rewind time with Kronika and--”
“FUCK KRONIKA!!”
He blinked at what she suddenly said.
“Fuck Kronika! An’ fuck dae New Era! Tha’ bitch is a fuckin’ liar fer a fuckin’ Titan! She won’ fulfill all those empty promises li’e she claimed she woul’! I wan’ nothin’ tae do wit’ tha’ bitch, an’ you shoul’ do dae same, too!!” She angrily left and returned to the fight club. Everyone in there could immediately sense her grief, anger, and hatred towards people right now and backed off when she walked their way.

Many weeks have passed since Kano was eliminated from their timeline. Zoey had gone from the most sensible and logical Black Dragon member to the cruelest new leader anyone has faced. When orders were not properly taken out, she would kill off the Black Dragon member who had failed her in her eyes. She has even tortured several members who questioned her methods. She seemed to be all out of mercy to those that fail her and to those who stood up against her. The only ones she spared were Kabal and Erron Black.
However, she was a different person when all alone in her private quarters. When she had returned from a long mission, she took a shower and returned to the kitchen in her pajamas. She had also been drinking every night since Kano’s death to help with her pain and sorrow. It usually left her blackout drunk in the kitchen and Erron having to carry her to her bed, the bed she and Kano once shared.
But before she could pass out drunk, she lifted her head up and found a photo hiding in the cabinet. She took it out and stared at it before walking up to her room. At first, until she flopped onto the bed, she was emotionally numb while looking at the picture in her hands. She had no emotion seeing it but when she began thinking about it more and more, her heart ached. She began to shudder her breathing as the sobs increased. Soon enough, she held the photo close to her and wailed and sobbed.
That photo?
It was an ultrasound of a one-month-old fetus.

The gunfire rang throughout the alley and all was now silent. Younger Kano wasn’t sure why he didn’t feel the bullet hit him right in the eye like it was supposed to. Surely if that would have happened, his older counterpart would be eliminated from the timeline, right? So why didn’t anything happen?
He looked, saw somebody over him and found Zoey hovering over him. She was protecting him and in turn, took a bullet through the heart. She eventually slumped over younger Kano and died with a smile. He held his breath as his eye could barely see his older counterpart look over at them. He pushed her body off his and older Kano immediately did a scan on the body. His heart raced as his cyber eye identified the now dead body as Zoey. “No...,” he whispered as he both started at his girlfriend’s dead body as it bled out and tightened his grip on Johnny’s neck.
He was feeling so much denial he had no idea he could feel at once. His breathing increased as he now also realized the other half off his deal with Kronika was now broken: keeping Zoey safe. His denial quickly turned to rage as he let out a scream of anger and tackled Sonya down. He rammed his head against hers and started to strangle her. “I’LL FUCKIN’’ KILL YOU, YOU BITCH!!” He screamed as his grip tightened around her neck. Sonya fought as hard as she could to get him off her, kneeling him in the stomach and trying to loosen his grip on her neck.
He was immediately pulled back by both Erron Black and his younger self. “Mate! Mate! Let her go!” young Kano exclaimed. Once they got him off, Erron held him back from going at her again. “Kano! For fuck’s sake, knock it off!” Erron then said keeping him between Kano and a bloody Sonya Blade. As the Cage family retreated to safety, Kano got out of his younger self’s grasp and growled, “Why the hell did you let them get away?!”
Erron calmly replied, “Because ye were goin’ too far fer takin’ revenge on yer girl.” Kano stopped and slowly looked over at his dead girlfriend. He began to approach her body slowly and knelt down to pick up her cold body in his arms. Just as he stood up, he heard Geras approach him asking about the progress he made. Kano looked down at Zoey and grew angry at the time-traveling being. “Tell that bitch Kronika the fuckin’ deal’s off,” he suddenly growled. Both young Kano and Erron were pretty surprised at his decision to end his deal with the Titan but Geras wasn’t.
“I am not surprised you would make such a decision, Kano,” Geras stated. “The hell ya mean...?” he asked. Geras looked down at the half demon’s body and replied, “Kronika knew she would be an obstacle in our plan for the New Era. She knew the girl would be the one to stand up to her. So she set it to have her be... eliminated.” The amount of rage flowing through Kano was absolutely insane. Not only did Kronika, the woman who promised The Black Dragon a big future in the black market, break a part of their deal which was protect Zoey, but also kill off the woman he ever felt love for.
“... Get th’ fuck out,” he growled. Geras blinked slowly until Kano screamed, “GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!! FUCK YOU!! FUCK KRONIKA!! AN’ FUCK THE NEW ERA!!” Erron swore he saw his boss, a cocky son of a bitch, cry as he screamed that. Geras hesitantly returned to Kronika’s keep and left the three alone. Kano sniffed and went back inside the fight club in silence while carrying Zoey. The Black Dragon members stepped aside as he ordered a few people to set up a funeral for Zoey.
It was the first time anyone in The Black Dragon had a funeral, and he wanted Zoey to have a good last goodbye. Erron, Kabal, And his younger counterpart all flew her casket to Romania, one of her favorite places on Earthrealm to visit, and buried her there.

Months passed, Kano assisted in taking down Kronika, and he was nowhere to be found in the Black Dragon base. However, Kabal knew exactly where to find him. He ran over to one of the bars and found him slumped over the bar wearing Zoey’s cloak and a drink in his hand. As much as he despised his boss, he actually did feel bad for him. Ever since Zoey’s death, he grew horribly depressed, drank even more than usual, got angry even faster, and got into more fights than usual. He just lost the woman of his dreams and wouldn’t get her back.
Kabal sighed and went up to his possibly blacked out boss. “Hey. C’mon. Ya gotta wake up,” he said shaking Kano to see if he was alive. Kano stirred and snorted as he woke up. “Wh-What...?” he grumbled. Kabal shook his head and said, “It’s three in the mornin’. Ya gotta get home, man.” Kano didn't protest surprisingly and went with Kabal. Kabal, however, has to support Kano all the way back to base and took occasional glances at him as they went back.
Kano was out cold the moment they reached his quarters. Kabal unlocked the door and dragged him to his bedroom and plopped him in bed before going back to his own. He swore he had never seen a man like Kano take such a downfall in grief and, honestly, he really did feel bad for him. He sighed and left.
At seven in the morning, Kano woke up with a god awful headache and felt horribly hungover. He grunted and slowly opened his eye, thinking he’d find Zoey asleep, but remembered it was empty. He stared at the empty space where Zoey would normally sleep for what felt like hours, reminiscing at the times where they talked about whatever or nothing, made love, and just... enjoyed each other’s presence as they lay there in bed.
He sighed sadly and slowly got up from the bed with a groan. He saw it was a rainy morning but he had no other plans to do anything today, so he stayed indoors. He went to make himself a coffee in the kitchen and just listened to the rain. His mind has him envision Zoey as she would hug him with a blanket when the weather got like this and let out a shaky sigh as he sat at the table. He noticed the stuffed koala he had and brought it closer to him.
The koala had a little sign that he wrote, “My daddy needs a mommy. Will you be my mommy?” He turned it around and found the compartment where he hid his engagement ring for Zoey. He opened the little box and found the ring in perfect condition still and stared at it for a very long time. He looked away from it for one second before he noticed a piece of paper sticking out from the cabinets. He rose a brow and approached it wondering where it came from. He pulled it out and flipped it to the front when he sat back down.
His eye widened as he realized what he was looking at: an ultrasound of a tiny fetus. His eye then turned to his now useless engagement ring as his emotions got the better of him. His hand shook as he kept staring at the ultrasound photo before he started something he hadn’t done since he was a child: cry.
The man broke down into tears as he not only lost his would-be wife, but also his unborn child.
