Mike Wheeler Is In Love With Will Byers - Tumblr Posts
Real. After season 4, do people really think m*leven is the endgame? Like please, their relationship is so toxic. The general audience doesn't even know that byler exist , so it being endgame would be more of a fanservice than byler.
If the duffers give into fanservice and make byler endgame then they’d be the worse clowns of all time and they’d have a nation after them sloppy seconds byler is the worse thing of all time like ever Mike isn’t gay as hell that’s just silly little girls wanting some weird x rated action period
After spending four seasons making it clear that Mike and El do not work together romantically and only hurt each other and those around them when dating, the only "fanservice" the Duffers could include in the final season would be to keep Mike and El together. Correct me if I'm wrong, anon, but I believe fanservice is a term used to describe lazy and nonsensical writing choices that betray the themes of the story and are only intended to please fans or the larger audience in a cheap and demeaning way. I'm pretty sure M*leven fits the bill for fanservice much better than Byler does, especially considering the fact that Byler shippers only made up a tiny fraction of the audience pre-season 4. All things considered, it is a risky move to break up the main heterosexual couple to put the main boy in a relationship with the other main boy. It's a decision that won't go over well with everyone in Stranger Things's far-reaching audience, but it is a decision that makes perfect narrative and thematic sense given how both Will and Mike's arcs have been set up. Will is the only confirmed gay character in the party who believes that he is a mistake and won't ever get to experience love after a childhood filled with trauma, homophobia, and isolation. And Mike feels as though he can't properly love or be there for the most important people in his life, specifically El and Will, because of some flaw within himself when in reality he only hurts his loved ones when he's trying to force himself into the heteronormative box that society demands he fit into. Where we are in the story currently, El is realizing that she doesn't need Mike and can stand on her own, and Mike is realizing that El doesn't need him. So what do you think will happen next season once Mike realizes that Will does need him and loves him exactly the way he wants to be loved, in a way that makes him feel like an equal instead of someone who is inferior? I can't be sure but I think it may involve Mike and Will sloppily making out in the Upside Down. Just a thought. M*leven endgame, on the other hand, would 1. Be the safe and expected writing choice (lazy), 2. betray the themes of the story and character arcs by failing to allow El to grow on her own, Mike to stay true to himself, or Will to be proven wrong about never getting to experience love, and 3. please a large portion of the general audience as well as diehard fans on reddit who see El as a superhero girlboss and Mike as her head-over-heels nerdy golden retriever boyfriend. Sounds like fucking fanservice to me, idk. Not to mention that Byler has been so intricately woven into the storyline and marketed so heavily to the point at which even most M*leven shippers are preparing to call the Duffers out on their queerbaiting bullshit if Byler isn't endgame. You say that the Duffers would be clowns if Byler is endgame? How about if, at the end of the show, they were forced to admit that their writing choices and characterization were so bad that a solid half of people watching at home were so unconvinced that Mike was actually in love with his girlfriend that they thought he was gay and in love with his guy best friend? Only to follow that up by having to admit that, yes, they were queerbaiting this whole time and failed to give the only gay kid in the party the only thing he's ever really asked for and the only thing he feels like he can't have, which is Mike. In other words, possibly the worst, most homophobic storyline that has ever been written for a gay character ever. In probably the year 2026. Can you even imagine? That would be clown behavior if I've ever seen it, and they'd never live that down as writers or creators. Take off your heteronormative glasses, anon. M*leven is fanservice. And Byler is endgame.
My reaction to that one info :
