He’d already lost count of the lives he’d personally ended and the number of deaths he’d had an indirect hand in over the years amounted to more, but he was just one symptom out of many in this sick, sick city. Roman was blameless, simply delivering what the people wanted because if it wasn’t him, somebody else would be doing it instead. Black Mask didn’t force people to start taking drugs. He just made sure they got a steady supply, so long as they could afford his prices. He didn’t force them to become so poor they needed to ask him for a loan, or better yet, start working for him instead. No. They’d ruined their own lives, leaving his hands clean of their poor decisions and weak-willed choices.

As a result of the physical trauma he experienced during infancy, Roman has a difficult time perceiving sensitivity and can be numb to the touches of others, especially after the incident that caused his mask to fuse to his face.
