Wei Wuxian: This is bothering me.
Jiang Cheng: Well, you are digging up a corpse.
Wei Wuxian: No, not that. That's, uh, pretty par for the course, actually.

The fact that this is under a Harry Potter Wiki

well what if i want to bite the hand that feeds me but fondly. gently. what then
lan wangji is whipped for wei wuxian
in more ways than one
They know it too. Thatās the only reason they provoke him so badly, they know they can do so safely. As proof? They didnāt do the same to Wen Ruohan.
... honestly, if wwx was any less good than he is, everyone would be so fucked up. Sometimes i just try to guess how wwx would be and how things would have happened if he actually wanted revenge, I think that just then people would meet the yiling patriarch they talk so much about. (although i can't see my canon wwx being so deeply resentful and keeping so much bad feelings and memories in his heart, sometimes I only wanted... justice, and no one does it like wwx)
Oh yeah, if WWX decided he wanted revenge the sects would be screwed. A WWX who was genuinely the sort of person the sects claimed he was could and would kill all of them, and they are damn lucky that the man they claimed he was never existed.
Heās so hecking pretty.
Happy birthday to the most perfect character in the world Wei Wuxian ā„ļøšš

Thereās a reason Lan Wangji said, āthis one. This one and no other.ā
Guys, Iām reading the Wen Indoctrination Camp flashbacks in the MDZS novel and yes, there were parts added in the TV series that very much benefit the narrative and I love them. But still, there are some rather good bits character bits in here - especially important because the novel is an Unreliable Narrator situation where you cannot always trust Wei Wuxianās perception.
Seeing that he seemed like he wanted to go over to Lan WangJi again, Jiang Cheng pulled Wei WuXian away, āWhatās wrong with you, now?! You still dare provoke him? You really are digging your own grave!ā
Wei WuXian, āIām not going to provoke him. Look at his leg. Heās been on the go for so many daysāthe state of his injury mustāve worsened. It became noticeable probably only because he really couldnāt hide it any longer. If he walks on like this, itās likely that he wonāt ever be able to use his leg again. Iām gonna carry him.ā
Jiang Cheng pulled him even closer, āItās not as if youāre familiar with him! Donāt you see how much he hates you? Youāre going to carry him? He probably doesnāt even want you a step closer to him.ā
Wei WuXian, āItās alright if he hates meāI donāt hate him. Iāll get him onto my back the second I get hold of him. Could he possibly choke me to death while on my back?ā
Jiang Cheng warned, āWe arenāt even able to care for ourselves; how do we have the time to care about the trivialities of others?ā
Wei WuXian, āFirst, this isnāt a triviality. Second, things like this, somebody will have to care about them, sooner or later!ā
This, right there, is the irreconcilable difference between Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng. Itās right there at the heart of why their relationship becomes so fraught. JC will never understand why WWX cannot just stand by and shut up, donāt make waves. WWX cannot fathom how a person would not be compelled to act. As they mature out of childhood, their increased agency and power makes this differing worldview create more and more conflicts. Ultimately, Wei Wuxian was never going to end up a loyal subordinate of Sect Leader Jiang Cheng, despite growing up believing that is his rightful place. The breaking point was inevitable. The fact that they were raised together and love each other canāt fix this, just makes it more tragic.
Itās key that in the novel, at this point Wei Wuxian truly believes Lan Wangji dislikes him at (and he authentically has good reason to think this - there was no joint pledge about Yin Iron and LWJ has shown no evidence of tolerating WWX even a little). So he MEANS IT, that he wants to go assist someone who loathes him, who might attack him when he tries to help.
āWhy would you even care if someone who doesnāt like you will never be able to walk again? Whatever bad happens to him isnāt our buisness!ā
WWX: āā¦. does not computeā
**
MianMian knew that if she was hung up, she probably wouldnāt be able to come back down alive. She tried to run away, but wherever she fled, the people dispersed around her. Just as Wei WuXian twitched, Jiang Cheng held him firmly down.
Followed by WWX distracting Wen Chao with his own sectās rulebook and taking him hostage, like the Troll 4 Justice that he is.
The novel has him think, āIn such a situation, it was almost impossible to care for oneself only and hope that no blood would be lost!ā and he expresses this like itās such a certainty - except itās clearly all too possible, as many others are finding very easy to step away from the situation.
And thatās the thing about Wei Wuxian. He can be crude and insensitive. Heās reckless as hell. The guy is a ginormous dick but when axe comes down⦠Heās going to be the one to throw himself between you and the blade. When it really counts, he wonāt let it be someone elseās problem.
Underneath all the self-protective bluster and defensive displays, he has a deep well of compassion that is rare in their peers.
He will do things when there is no benefit to himself. Not to curry favor or obligation or renown or cultivation power, but because he sees it needs to be done.
And so you can GET IT. Yeah, teenage Lan Wangji had a terrible bb gay crush on this hot sunny-smiles boy. But you just know that itās shit like this that made him actually fall in forever love. Because Lan Wangji has been PAYING ATTENTION to the hot unobtainable boy, so eventually heād notice. And think oh. oh no.
Lan WangJi replied, "We will wait until we find them. After all, we do what we must." Wei Wuxian, "Just by using nets?" Lan XiChen, "That is right. Does the YunmengJiang Sect have other methods?" Wei Wuxian smiled but didn't respond. Of course, the YunmengJiang Sect used nets as well. But, because he was a good swimmer, he had always jumped into the river and dragged water ghouls out. However, this method was too dangerous; he definitely couldn't do it in front of the Lan Sect's people.
....I'm sorry, what
Finally, after throwing a few glances at the man next to him kneeling meticulously straight and proper, Wei WuXian pressed the palms of his hands together, and muttered in his heart, āUncle Jiang, Madam Yu, itās me. Iāve disturbed your peace yet again.ā
āI just really wanted to bring this man here for the two of you to see. Consider the two bows just now as the bow for the Heaven and the earth and the bow for the parents. Please help me keep this man beside me. Iāll save the last bow for now. When the right time comes, Iāll make up for itā¦ā¦ā
āChapt. 87: āCoreā Part 9, boat-full-of-lotus-pods
1) āWei Wuxian is oblivious to his own and Lan Wangjiās feelings!ā Yes, a man oblivious to his feelings would definitely bring someone back to knowingly complete partial wedding vows.
2) Wei Wuxian wouldnāt enter the ancestral hall back in his first life after the former Jiang leadersā deaths, but he comes willingly to do wedding bows. This was always gonna be his final act in Lotus Pier, his goodbye to the Jiang Clan as he leaves the past in the past and finally moves forward with his life.
Wei Wuxian:
āā¦But, let the self judge the right and the wrong, let others decide to praise or to blame, let gains and losses remain uncommented on. I, too, know what I should and shouldnāt doā¦ā
āChapt. 75: Distance, exr
The morally gray!wwx crowd: See, Wei Wuxian agrees that nobody can ever truly be objectively right or wrong because popular opinion dictates morality, and this is a good thing, otherwise Iād have to analyze why I feel so strongly about justifying fictional genocide over hurt feelings!
Fandom Gripes #20: Wei Wuxian is not an alcoholic. I donāt care how he appears in the other adaptations, in the novel, he is not an alcoholic. Drinking alcohol every now and then does not make one an alcoholic. Liking alcohol does not make one an alcoholic. Having a favorite alcohol does not make one an alcoholic. Having an interest in the different types of alcohol does not make one an alcoholic.
If you wanna argue that Wei Wuxian is an alcoholic, you will have to show me where in the novel he is ever shown to be dependent on it, where it plays a major role in his life, and where it is used often enough to impair his thinking and actions. Can you even point out a scene from the story where heās drunk? Do we see any mention of him always having alcohol on him when he travels, not just having it with some meals? No? Then how did we get here?
Excuse me while I dig through the notes like the nosy little trash panda I amā¦
Absolutely wild to read through mdzs and tally the sheer amount of lies the cultuvation world tell about and around Wei Wuxian that eventually get debunked:
Wwx purposely and maliciously ordered Wen Ning to kill Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan. Jin Zixuan died for siding with his cousin in an ambush his cousin created to kill wwx, an invited Jin guest. Jiang Yanli died protecting wwx from a cultivator stabbing him in the back, after Wen Ning was supposedly already destroyed.
Wwx attacked the Nightless City banquet for no reason, killing between 3,000-5,000 cultivators. The major clans and many smaller clans were gathered at Nightless City specifically to go back on their word to the Wen siblings to leave the Burial Mounds settlement, and to pledge to kill wwx. There werenāt even 3,000 present at the whole pledge, and wwx didnāt kill nearly all of them since a good portion of them show up to the second siege 13 years later.
Wwx ordered Wen Ning to attack the cultivators at Koi Tower, and his and Wen Qingās surrender was a ruse to allow them close access to the clans to do so. Wwx was immobilized for three days, and otherwise does not control Wen Ning like a toy. Edit: the Jin purposely agitated Wen Ning to violence, then ensured that a majority of the cultivators in the room killed were from other clans to secure their support of the pledge conference.
Wwx had a great life at Lotus Pier, treated like he was part of the Jiang main family, only to betray them in the end. Wwx was whipped so gratuitously that he had scars as a child despite having a high-level golden core. Nobody bothered to tell him about his parents, despite Jiang Fengmian supposedly being close to at least his father before Wei Changze left the service of the clan. He was given no tablets to honor them in death, no keepsakes. Still, wwx fulfilled both of the Jiang rulersā final wish/order to protect their son (above his own life), and wwxās connections are why either were able to get a proper burial (unlike wwxās own parents).
Wwx was committing evil acts and took on the Wen remnants as followers/test subjects for his dark arts. All demonic cultivators can be linked to his followers. Wwx rescued the Wen Remnants from labor camps set up, again, against the word of the cultivation world, and lived secluded in the Burial Mounds and Yiling until basically his death. The only ādemonic cultivatorsā we see are Jin disciples who are given wwxās notes after his death to study in an attempt to recreate his methods and secure the Jinās power over the other great sects. Nobody cares that the Jin are doing this, even as they use other clans as test subjects.
Wwx created Wen Ning to be a weapon. Wwx resurrected Wen Ning on the request of his sister after the labor camp guards murdered him. The Jin, after lying about his destruction, try to turn him into a weapon and fail.
Wwx was killed by Jiang Cheng in a fitting moment of justice for the crimes committed against the Jiang. While Jiang Chengās part in the first siege was integral, he did not kill wwx. The Jiang have committed more crimes against wwx than anyone, and owe their entire continued existence to wwx.
Wwx turned to demonic cultivation because he was greedy for power. Wwx created the ghost path as his only means of surviving the Burial Mounds without a golden core. He sought no power and blatantly called out those who did (the Jin), only to be ignored because of his status. In turn, he defects from his sect and exiles himself to the Burial Mounds (with the Wen remnants), to which the sects continue to pursue him in a bid to kill the āservantā who wonāt bow to them and to steal his power for themselves.
Wwxās cultivation corrupts people, both in mentality and their health, which is why he became evil. Wwxās cultivation path is shown to do no such thing, and nobody has precedence for saying this, as wwxās cultivation is entirely new. On the other hand, the Nie saber technique is known to corrupt body and mind of the Nie who practice is, resulting in horrifyingly violent deaths by qi deviation, and yet no one shows care or concern about that being a problem for the whole cultivation world to have to deal with.
Wwx was ugly. Do I need to debunk this? š
And some ones tangentially related to him, but having to do more with the cultivation world lying to make themselves seem better than they were:
The first Burial Mounds siege was a deadly undertaking, but ultimately worth it to stop the Yiling Patriarchās reign of terror. The siege was hundreds of trained cultivators against around 50 sickly people and a child with no tools to fight back. The only person who could fight back did not. It was the very definition of a massacre.
The participants of the first siege burned all the corpses on the Burial Mounds to release their resentment. The participants of the first siege threw the Wen remnantsā corpses into the blood pool to desecrate them, thereby imbibing them with even more resentment.
Disciples (or anyone connected to her) of Baoshan Sanren who leave her mountain are destined to meet bad ends as they are corrupted by the world. The cultivation world allows righteous people to die and their reputations to be tarnished in order to maintain their facade of ārighteousnessā while leaning into corruption and constant power grabs. It is often directly the fault of the cultivation world that these individuals are killed in the first place.
