Lye - Tumblr Posts

Thought I'd show the WIP I've been toiling over for the last while, and probably will continue to toil over for many a more week until she's done.
This is going to be Lyessa Var Terrefta, who was one of my favorite DND characters I played. She's a necromancer. I'll reveal a bit more about her when I get the model more completed!
Thanks again to the base model maker @galileogb. This model couldn't be possible without what dissecting the Talio model has taught me, and it helped me get the base proportions correct before modifying it as heavily as it is.
Introducing, Lyesse Var Terrefta, your not-always-friendly, not-always-neighborly necromancer.

Wanna know about her? Read below.
Lyessa Var Terrefta, or just Lye for short, is a politician who is also a necromancer. She works at the local city hall as a secretary, keeping records straight and schedule on track, but she also serves a secondary role as a member of the City Defense Agency. Being in the woods means monsters are not an infrequent problem, thus her use of necromancy has helped keep sectors of the city not easily accessible by other forms of the City Defense Agency safe.
I'm currently unsure of her sexuality, but I was thinking of hetero-leaning-asexual as she doesn't see too much need to socialize as such but knows she'd rather be with a man if she did. She's got a nippy and blunt personality, and lacks a ton of patience for people she interacts with. However, she does understand that toning it down is useful for cooperation.
She and Civil are housemates, with Civil and her having met in college and deciding that due to financial needs to co-own a house together. This may lead to some interesting interactions as the nippy-and-blunt personality of Lye interacts with Civil's friendly-and-loose demeanor. Due to this, their relationship is entirely platonic. Plus I've been thinking that Civil is leaning more gay than bi recently.
I'm currently creating a small world where anthros and magic are the norm, but set in the modern day. She will live here, as well as with Civil, in a mythical version of my home city. I'm also planning to create a few more characters, at minimum a co-worker for Lye, and best friend for Civil, and a boyfriend for Civil, to eventually embark on maybe trying to make short animations or comics out of it.
Lye is based on a DND character I played where she was a politician in charge of her nation's defense agency as a necromancer. She was a very powerful wizard until she got isekai-ed to another world where she basically reset to level 1 and had to regain both her magical and political power. She was one of my favorite characters, trying to play the stealthy wizard who used necromancy for larger fights, and tried to talk her way out of others.
This is an in-progress model, and so there are definitely still some issues with it. However, much like the Civil model, its now at a state that I'm happy to start messing around with and trying to make art. Improvements will be made incrementally as I find them and deem the need to fix or add to her model.

When you're having absolutely none of it.
I will work further to ensure that Lye is capable of starring absolute daggers into people. It'll probably be her signature look.
Snip from a WIP comic I'm trying out.
I'm remaking this comic strip now that I decided to-think the scale (and maybe just decided to model an entire house instead of just room-by-room so the comics can have a semblance of realism), so here's a couple of shots from the first take that I really like.

Decided to restart on the facial expressions, so hopefully the new 'surprised' face for Lye should look a bit more real than this one. I guess it looks better in comparison to the face she's making right before it of just talking.
Slight NSFW of Civil below the cut.

I swear this isn't one of those "I'm stuck, step-otter" kinda scenes. It's supposed to be a showcase of maybe a bad decision or two on Civil's part.

What emotion does this portray to you? I was going for that embaressed-but-trying-to-be-cool-about-it-and-failing kinda thing.
very interested in this world which seems to have both civil engineers and necromancers.
Two jobs which I would not expect to coexist.
(Do skeletons have to follow OSHA guidelines?)
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why it's this way either. I guess the idea going forward is modern day except there's magic? Also necromancy is legal?
I do a lot of world building for DND sessions, so this is my outlet for "Seems too crackpot for my players but nothing stops me from doing it here". So one day Civil is handling septic plans for a client, the next Lye is protecting the city from kobolds or something.
Imma just see where the random inspiration takes me, logic be damned .
Also no, skeletons don't need to follow OSHA, that's the best part of using them as workforce. There's probably laws against throwing a loved one's reanimated bones into heavy machinery on purpose, though.
Pancake Night

"You like them a bit thinner, right?" said Civ as a mid-air pancake landed cleanly on the cast iron.
"Well, yeah, but you know I can't taste the sweetness in them. There's a reason I don't typically eat these," said Lye as she sat down at the booth.
"I know, that's why I got the good syrup that's more flavor/less sweet and used a bit less sugar in them," replied Civ, "Plus I had some leftover bacon that we could sprinkle on! More savory than sweet tonight!"
"Hmm, not bad. I guess that will do," said Lye.
The Railroad Tracks

"I heard there was an accident here where a guy got his legs cut off by a train here. And apparently it happened like a hundred years ago, too!" said Civil
"The only accident I'm about to see is you accidentally getting tetanus. Get down from there." replied Lye.
Character-less render and minor spoilers below.
Well, this week I was sick with something like the flu so I had the time to make this render. A couldn't find the image from Echo that inspired me, but I remember it being there.
This scene from Leo's ending was absolutely just heart-stopping for a multitude of reasons. Can't imagine that specific variety of pain and agony, from the event to the next several hours of suffering.
However, I do have to say that the foreshadowing was on point. The novel almost made me think they were about to escape after all the trial and tribulation they had gone through, and then...yikes.
Anyways, I've neglected continuing through Flynn's path, so hopefully I'll soon figure out what horrible thing happens in that one!
Here's the render without Lye and Civ. It makes an okay screensaver.

The Quicker Commute

"Teleporting is way faster than driving to work."
Not my best render, but I wanted to make something since I haven't made a render in a while. Been super focused on physical projects like the helmet and Armada ship painting and printing.
Wait civ what year is it, What year is it for you-- Civ if its 2003 you need to keep a lookout on the lake civ. if its 2015 and in march get the fuck away from echo, And if anything do not go into the mines. oh and if its 2024 uh... Check a certain house somewhere <3 There may be another otter somewhere.
What, this mine? This old abandoned mine? The one that smells kinda like an old quartz mine? That mine?

Doesn't seem so bad. Echo's been abandoned for nearly a decade since that incident in 2015, so the only danger here should be getting tapped underground. Lye says she'll alert the morgue if I don't come up, which I think is her "I've got your back".
Now you got me curious. What happened in 2003....
Listen closely, I have something to tell you:
I didn't know Echo had good and bad endings for some characters and just thought they each had 1 ending. I thought Leo's bad ending was just the Leo ending.

L: CIV! You've been making fanart of it for months now and haven't even gotten the rest of the way through Flynn's ending! You've literally only completed 2 endings! You can't just talk like you're not still missing most of the other stories!

Don't listen to her. I totally didn't do TJ's route first and thought I had it all figured out from then on.

L: Well maybe if you took a pause off fanart and actually read more of the stories YOU'D ACTUALLY GET MORE MATERIAL TO MAKE FANART OF!
Honestly though, I need more free time to actually do the other routes and see them. I've been so busy I've just been living off my bad Leo and TJ ending knowledge for the last few months.
Don't even get me started on Arches and Smoke Room either.
btw it was good that you got out of the mine when you did, because i heard that there's been a fire in those mines for over like... 5 years or something, dunno if its true but i dont think you wish to be grilled under like... 3 tons of rock. so good job on you and your friend... Also Necro WHAT!?
Huh, getting grilled underground sounds like a bad time. Though we didn't see any fires down there so not sure what you're talking about. Probably a good thing we didn't see what your talking about.

All this talk of getting grilled tho has me hungry now. I wonder if you can grill a burger under rocks...

Also yeah, Lye's a necromancer. I thought bringing her to this haunted place would be a great idea but so far we've seen like nothing spooky!
Lye here. Civ's just blind as a bat. I've spotted several ghastly entities way stronger than I'm willing to deal with and have simply kept us protected on this little 'haunted tour' of his.

To whoever sent him here, I'm taking away your ability to ship otters (which I wonder how you got him past the postal service unless you used illusion magic). He's nearly gotten killed like 5 times since we've been here.
ok so we cant ship you anymore... Teehee... But a necromancer... can they like... revive people... and can those necrorevived people remember their old life and or even have sentience? If so and yes... On the route 65 i need to to dig up a mount of dirt with like... if i recall correctly a stone ontop, and... well... you'll know what to do with it when you find him...
Yes, I'm a necromancer, and yes I can revive people...sometimes.
Technically, the soul is not back, just the body's moving in most of my practice. Lights are on but nobody's home, so to speak. It takes a special ritual to bring a person back to full life with their soul, and it's quite unaffordable (blame the healthcare system).

However, I find that there is a more powerful entity in the area known as 'Echo'. Attempts at reviving anyone here would likely be, not only terribly difficult, but also would probably piss off whatever lives here, and I have no intent to do that.

What- What do you MEAN "User doesnt want to be found" Is Chase *DEAD?* is this just echo fuckery or---- uh- Look at all the other tabs!!! ! Who Cares if the user "doesnt wish to be found" What does "user" even mean? like the possessed or actual chrome users? I mean- uh... Try other Browsing engines-- If it spits out the same response then its 110% Echo fuckery!!!! So yeah you should go kill The Spirit of echo-- Theres a Dam somewhere up a road somewhere, If theres still enough water try flooding the town? Do it??? I mean if there's still people living there you'll kill them but one of thems local folk might be a rapist serial killer maybe. (If he is even alive)
So...I tried a few different browsers.....

And uh...I think I got a computer virus or something...

Anyone know an good solution for this one?
AHHHH!

L: Civil, what did you do?

Nothing! I was just...browsing the internet! Some nice people online told me I should look for this one guy from Echo!
L: You turned off your anti-curse and anti-virus protection didn't you? So you could 'find the real results'?
Maybe....
The Search for Civ
Lye's Personal Log: 9/15/2024
Civ has been missing for almost a week now.

His disappearance was completely random. Checking his belongings and room, there was no signs of him saying where he would be going. His friends and coworkers said he had gone home with no word of him planning on anything. When I awoke on Tuesday, we was nowhere to be seen, though I had noted he had come home the night before.
The cops have made the missing persons report. The local diviners are unable to find a trace of him. Even my own magical efforts show him to have all but been home one moment, and then gone the next, with only a magical error that seems to think he's somewhere in the sky. No magical teleportation traces or dimensional portals to be found. By all accounts, it's as if he simply vanished.
I wonder if the procedure I did was the problem. A month ago, I had found magical traces of the monster we encountered in the ghost town known as Echo within his mind. A slow leaking magic, one that started to get stronger with time. Nevermind Civ's mental state deteriorating over the course of the month, but I feared if this continued that the creature from Echo could be using Civ to expand its territory, which I had to stop.

I had performed a magical removal procedure to remove this magical infection. Alas, this procedure removed his memories of his visits to Echo, which I thought was a happy side effect, but it successfully removed the magical infestation. It was contained and safe.
But Civ was magically vulnerable post-procedure, and it wouldn't take much for an entity to overpower him in his state, something I'm starting to worried may have happened. Even now, I worry that targeting him with strong divining magic may harm him.
However, I've run out of options.
At this point, the only way to reach Civ would be to use something magically connected to him. As a magic-less being, Civ would typically make this inordinately difficult.
But...
This magical infestation, it has parts of Civ in it. Memories, a connection, the strongest magical item connected to him. It might be the only object capable of this level of magic.

To make matters better (but also somewhat worse), Kerry put me in contact with her families...special resources. Dealing with them will be dangerous...but they might be the only way to save Civ.
I will begin preparations for this magical ritual, but it will take time, time I will use to exhaust all other search methods first. I am fearful of what may come in the future, but hopefully it will be worth it to get Civ back.

The Search For Civ
Lye's Personal Log: 9/17/2024
It's hard to keep a full time job and continue searching for Civ, but I'm making it manage. Luckily it's not only me who's searching, but most of the help I've gotten are from other non-mages, and can only help cover physical ground.
In the meantime, I've taken the time to deeply magically search Civ's room and belongings, trying to find anything that could lead me to him. However, other than a few 'undesirable' things I found (and will be performing a memory removal spell on those memories once this is all over), it got me nowhere.

I even took time to check the athletic club where Civ swims and works out. I found a few other regulars who knew him, but each said that he was not out-of-the-ordinary that day. It turns out that no one was using the lane he tends to use, which made it feel rather empty to the other regulars.

I tried one last time to perform a tracing spell, and I pulled out my most powerful boosting components for the spell. But yet again, I only got the strange "UP" response again. I'm starting to think that he somehow IS up in the sky, and that an unscheduled sky mote is floating overhead invisibly.

I've run out of options. It's time to perform that ritual I was trying to avoid.

I've assembled all the parts and double checked Kerry's instructions.
It's time.

Spell: Otherworldly Favor
Instructions:
Draw a standard summoning circle using the centerpoint rune set of the target plane. Include the core symbol of the target plane in the center.
Incite the circle with arcane energy as per a standard summoning circle rune.
Recite the incantation of summoning in the corresponding language of the target plane, followed by reciting the correct summoning command for the target entity.
Interaction with extraplanar entities can be extremely dangerous. It is suggested to either be on good terms with the entity or to have an offering to appease the entity, lest it consider your summoning of it an inconvenience.

I've prepared the spell. I hope Kerry's hellish contact is willing to speak with me.

And hopefully the price isn't too high...
