Jack Merridew with 11 and 13 for the ask meme?

My favourite relationship with Merridew is his with Maurice! Even though it’s not shown often, with the snippets we see, it’s one of the most playful Jack has! When he gets pig blood on his hands, he giggles and smears it on Maurice’s face! I think they’re cute and they make me happy :]

Second, my least favourite thing about how the fandom portrays him is the extremes they use. They either make him overly emotional and kind, or downright heartless, it makes me question if we read the same book. Jack waited for Ralph’s approval before SITTING next to him, and prided himself on impressing the other boys. He just got caught up in power + the mass hysteria, it’s not like he felt nothing. In the manuscript, Jack is also shown to have felt remorse and guilt when he caused Ralph pain, he really did care.

Jack Merridew is a complex character and I love him.

How bout 10 & 14 for Roger?

Oh that’s a hard one, I love Roger

I really like when Ralph and Piggy approach Castle Rock and Roger does the whole, “Who goes there?” thing. In my mind, I feel like Roger already knew who they were, and just did that to annoy Ralph. That feels very Roger to me because he’s a spiteful little shit /pos

And I really like how his relationships are portrayed in the book, as well as the movies. The one thing that stays true throughout the book to both movies, is Rogers admiration and respect for Jack. There’s no malice behind it, he just follows Jack and doesn’t question him, he genuinely just stays by his side. The relationship seems so out of character for Roger and I love how adoring it feels, they’re soulmates :( /pos (/p or /r) 

For the ask meme, how about 5 for Ralph and 12 for Piggy/Peter?

Even though it’s more subtle, Ralph’s home life sounds just- bleak? I don’t know why but hearing how he describes it, it feels more bittersweet and less longing than you would think of from a boy who’s been stuck on an island for months. It just makes me sad for him :[

AND OH BOY- I honestly love how (for the most part) we keep Peter just as smart as he is, and deserves to be. I see characters dumbed down for punchlines, but if anyone should be dumbed down for that, we should just use the airhead of a protagonist we have (/aff). Peter can be a smart-ass, but that’s literally the point, he’s smarter than the other boys but not as physically capable. I just love that he stays true through most things I’ve read, but some people don’t keep him true to his character, and I loathe them. (/hj 😒)

My head hurts, it's been hurting. When did it start? I wish I could remember that, ugh, who cares anymore?

My thoughts blurred together and I closed my eyes, if my thoughts aren't any help, I suppose my sight isn't either. I could hear yelling and the smashing of expensive china, there was a noise similar to the squeal of a pig, then silence.

Mother.

I decided that laying on the floor wasn't as appealing as I first thought.

I stood up and looked around as quick as I could, my head lolled to the side and my vision was blurry. Someone was grasping as my leg and I kicked them off, then a low whimper followed, then silence.

Mother.

I fell to my knees and curled in on myself, whimpers and squeals plagued my mind. I held myself and cried gently, I could hardly breathe. I felt a hand on my shoulder, I turned to slap it away but my wrist was grabbed and I looked into the nearly black eyes of Roger. Air was caught in my throat and I gasped.

"Ro- Rog.. hic.."

"You need to wake up, Merridew."

“Wh- wha-?”

My eyes shot open and I choked as I sat up, coughing wildly. I looked around my room and there was sign of Roger, and there were no sounds from downstairs.

Mother?

There was no response.
