I headcanon that the reason Nico wears darker clothes is because it’s actually easier to shadow travel since the color black is often associated with darkness

And so one day he finds that he can blend in with the shadows better if he’s dressed like them

And that’s why he wear black all the time. Not just because he wants to, but because he has to if he wants to use his powers to their full extent
