Was thinking about how Hob and Dream could both be insufferable in some way because, in fairness, Hob comes across as someone who could make friends with bread if left in a room with it long enough.
Then I had a thought:
What if Hob Gadling is just super fucking insufferable to other immortals?
See, Dream is... difficult for mortals to get because he's got his whole eldritch thing going on. But while he's not particularly popular with them, I imagine other immortals at least get and respect his whole deal. Like, he's the Dreamlord. Of course he's weird. But they understand the laws and principles he's referring to at least when he's being weird. He seems to at least have a pleasant relationship with the Faerie Court. It's mortals who can't really connect with Dream and find him exasperating as a result.
Whereas Hob gets along great with mortals, just swell. He's Just A Guy who happens to live forever and people get along with him. But immortals? We don't really see it much but immortals positively loathe this guy.
Dream's reaction to the whole, "I've made up my mind, I've decided not to die!"? Hob tossed out in 1389? That's the teeth-grinding level of irritation Hob engenders in every immortal he comes across (before they have centuries to get to know him) and it is exactly why Death just had to make this man immortal because it would be hilarious.
Why doesn't Hob hang out with other immortals besides Dream? Because the minute he opens his mouth about how great life is and how he's never had even a moment's doubt about how much he wants to live, every immortal in the room starts to make the gagging motion.
You're an immortal just trying to have a bit of a kvetch about Kids These Days and how much times have changed and how it was better in your day, and there's Hob fucking Gadling again ready to throw down about how amazing antibiotics and automobiles and the latest iPhone number whatever are and like, sure, but you were just trying to say back in your day things were better, right? Not objectively maybe but you're just trying to indulge in a bit of immortal nostalgia and Hob fucking Gadling is not having any of it and is ready to argue you into the dirt about it.
You're immortal but haven't quite kept up on today's slang? Hob Gadling will absolutely call you out and he's a teacher now so he's going to be super nice about it but you know he's judging you for saying groovy unironically and thinks you should get with the times already.
You're a vampire living off centuries of generational wealth? Hob keeps talking about how you should get a job and get out of the spooky mansion more, and maybe you wouldn't feel so much existential angst. You like your existential angst!
Hob doesn't have a single ounce of patience for immortals who want to wax poetic about wishing they were mortal again. Diseases, he says, have you ever had diseases? Like even a cold? It sucks. It really fucking sucks. The Plague? The fucking worst. You don't need to be mortal to get involved in mortal life, Hob fucking Gadling keeps pointing out at the monthly eldritch coffee meetups. You can just live as a mortal and share in their problems and enjoy the fact you don't have to deal with the shit parts like getting sick. Completely missing the point of the futile lamentation of regretting one's lost mortality is something you enjoy.
Hob harshes the vibe of every single immortal out there. They are so goddamn sick of him. There's a reason he has no apparent immortal friends or connections to the supernatural world despite (in the comics) seeming to have met other immortals and having the occasional supernatural encounter that he immediately brushes off as dull when compared to what the normal, every day world has to offer.
No other immortal can fucking figure out what Dream of the Endless sees in this guy, and how he can stand to talk to him even once a century without storming off (which, in fairness, Dream has done on 2/7 occasions). Dream, not otherwise known for his patience, is seen as a saint in the eldritch community for even spending as much time as he has over the course of 600+ years with Hob fucking Gadling.
Ginie Sayles & the importance of learning to like classical music & jazz.
She says to bond with elite you need something in common. Something the same, something different. She worked in doing PR for the Dallas opera to build a network. She says you just have to learn to like it and if you keep listening to Chopin, Ginie Sayles says you will pick up a tune.
Why is it so important? Rich parents try to make their kids the most competitive and get into engineering or a banker. That means good with numbers. So affluent mothers obviously try to develop their kids brain so he will be as or more successful than dad. So they put their kids in classical music.
Classical music develops the mathematical brain and grows it. This gives the child higher math scores so they can get in the top universities. Now it’s so normal for elite gentlemen to marry Asian women to raise tiger children. It’s a big trend right now.
If you studied piano and yes I did so obviously we would like it. My husband did not study music but is an engineer who loves to sing.
So my husband loves classical music and going to the orchestra. His father loves jazz. My dad loves baroque & chamber music. My friends discovered my husband has an operatic voice. Throughout the years I found taking any gentleman who works with numbers to the orchestra or an opera to be a success. They thrive and even enjoy it more than me. As gentlemen move up the corporate ladder they go to the orchestra, opera, ballet.
It’s not that my husband hadn’t gone to classical music concerts without me but with me it became a passion because I made classical music come alive for my husband. So when we started going my husbands friends started going because they got introduced to it from colleagues, clients and bosses as they move up and ended up liking it.
Part of male level up is classical music appreciation.
Old money appreciate jazz and classical music because their mothers hammered it into them and exposed it to them, even in the womb. I grew up listening to opera, jazz and classical music both Arabic and western as a child in Yemen.
Classical music is an international elite language and helps you vibe at an elite frequency.
My favourite opera singers are Kathleen Battle and Leoytne Price, both African American. I don’t mind Maria Callas’s voice but am not a big fan of her personality. I love Franco Corelli I think because my husband likes him & the counter tenor Jarussky. I love Joan Sutherland’s voice in Casta Diva. My favourite Carmen is Julie Naserrallah. Here is a photo of my husband with her lol. In operatic movies Placido Domingo is amazing but is a terrible person.
Opera makes you vibe at the energy of money and of kings and queens. That is what the people who own the gangster dusty rap listen to but make sure people of colour can’t level up by marketing dusty rap. They could market classical music but choose not to.
There is no level down propaganda like rap.
Music is so powerful because it affects your vibration.
What I learned since 39 yes ladies I turn 40 next year… is that emotional energy and vibes are not a joke. Life is at the frequency you vibe at.
Your vibe attracts your tribe. Yes listening to classical music will make you richer as you will focus more, be more confident. It’s not oh you listen to classical music you will be a millionaire overnight. No.
Classical music will push you in the direction of money. And money gives you power to get whatever you want faster. Rap & pop will drag you down. Afrobeats is good because it has good messages. Jazz.
Don’t forget classical music. Western Classical is an international language all elite learn. And they learn the folk or classical music of their country. What is songs were sung to kings and queens in your country? You should learn the music meant for the ears of royalty because it has a different vibe than the one meant only for peasants.
There is peasant music and royal music in every culture.
80% of music you listen to must be made for a royal or elite audience. Or for God. Our utmost to our highest.
Peasant music which is most popular musics is catered to make a profit by appealing to the lower vibes and instincts of the loser masses.
If you want to be a winner stop being a loser. Stop listening to loser music.
Music is extremely powerful at manipulating your behaviour, your vibe and your future. It controls you because it’s control is so subtle.
Music controls you so be careful what you listen to.
You might as well listen to what gives you a princess in a castle vibes because you will find yourself manifesting that. I don’t mean by woo woo magic.
The law of bias, not attraction means we gravitate to things we vibe at, feel, focus on. So we should control what we vibe with and not listen to just music we like.
I love actually some 90s R n B with good lyrics.
It’s okay to listen to music other than classical but it has to have level up vibes & lyrics.
Even in classical, don’t play an aria of a dying Pickmeisha over and over.
I know a tragic opera singer who put paintings of her tragic arias made by fans over her home and she was very popular as a dramatic soprano. She excelled in tragedy. Her life became a tragedy. I told her to take off the paintings and put positive family or performance photos and she refused to listen. So she had a tragic life. So even in classical music don’t look for all the Adele equivalent songs you can find.
You can acquire an appreciation for classical music by playing the same piece over and over and over. When you start enjoying it you will have more emotional level up fuel.
I did the worst when I listened to classical music the least.
It’s really good for your level up, mental health and ability to connect with elite.
Classical music helps you emotionally vibe and the frequency of money and success.
When I let myself go because I get sick, then getting sick breaks my routine and I stop listening to classical music and it’s mainly other music I have less mental level up fuel. There was a period that I was sick and reading a lot on dusties and my brain was decaying. My health fell like a rock and body was dying. I have been working to reverse the damages.
So classical music didn’t sound good after thinking too much about how I didn’t like broke dusty losers and I admit I went on a Sheera TikTok binge. I was sucking in negativity like a vacuum cleaner and getting sick.
Then I stopped liking elevated music.
So I am back on classical music to fix my vibe because my vibe wasn’t vibing.
The moment my vibe leveled down classical music stopped being pleasant to listen to. It became boring! So by keep listening to it, it helped me get back on track.
Enya, spa music, jazz are very helpful. Many elite love jazz so it’s important to know.
Classical music written for royalty changes your vibe to that of royalty or money.
There is so much we are only beginning to learn in psychology about vibes and emotional energy. Ginie Sayles says words are like a radio station dial that you tune to the direction you want.
And so is classical music. What is really powerful if you can play an instrument when your spouse arrives home to calm him as you give him a cocktail.
Even if you can’t play it’s a very powerful tool that helps both of you vibe and think in a way that makes you richer.
Listening to classical music by itself won’t make you rich or all musicians would be billionaires. However if you love money and classical music and pursue both, classical music accelerates the process.
The best way to follow classical music if you are a woman of colour is to find someone of your background in western classical music and learn about them because it’s an international language and the music sung to kings and elite in your culture.
Listen to the music designed for palaces and queens to accelerate the process of you becoming a queen in a palace.
What are your favourite pieces or composers?
