Content: Reader's taller than Levi, slight angst from Levi's POV

Warnings: Maybe OOC Levi but I literally do not care right now. This is how I picture him in my head, and this is how he acted when I shifted. Suck my balls /j

Notes: I shifted earlier and this is what came out of it. Thought it would make a good fic. Based off of the game more than the show, and a Japanese drama CD I listened to of AOT (mainly Erwin's part). Also no established relationship between you and Levi.

(Y/n) looked around the training field, trying to spot a smaller figure. Eren was out, which would mean that the Captain would be in tow somewhere. Maybe even off resting underneath a tree? The more the cadet looked around, the more people began to notice she hadn't come to train.

Hange was the one to approach them, arms behind their head. "Oi! (L/n)! Whatcha doin' here?"

"Ah, hey Hange. Sorry I'm...looking for something." They looked at the section commander before glancing around again.

"Oh, I can help you find it. What is it?"

"Oh, uhm, no thanks. I can find it on my own-"

Hange lowered their arms and grinned. "Aw c'mon! I can help out! What'd you lose? Did Jean steal your candy again?"

"No, not this time." (Y/n) mumbled, side-stepping to try to peer over Reiner's broad frame in the distance.

Hange followed their line of sight, then sighed. "Oh, you're looking for someone."

(Y/n) mindlessly hummed an affirmation. Hange sighed again. "I swear, you're like the Mikasa to Levi's Eren..."

(Y/n) choked on their spit before whipping to the section commander. "H-hey! Is it that obvious...?"

"Painfully." Hange groaned. "You know, it wouldn't be as obvious if you spent more time with other people..."

(Y/n) silently stared at Hange for a moment, before glancing at the ground. "Guess I have been neglecting everybody, huh...? 'M sorry, Hange."

Hange, playing along, huffed and crossed their arms, turning away. "I'm hurt, (L/n)."

"Ah- okay! I'll do anything you want today, forget Levi." (Y/n) raised their hands to appease the eccentric commander.

It was Hange's turn to whip to them now. "Really?! Then c'mon, there's some things I wanna do today!"

Hange barely heard (Y/n)'s protests as they were dragged by hand. Both of them missed the sharp gaze from across the field.

First Time

(Y/n) held a hand over their mouth as they yawned, finishing up some dishes early in the morning before Hange could get their hands on (Y/n) again. Drying off their hands, they were more focused on staying awake than their surroundings, and completely missed the sound of footsteps approaching them.

"Oi, (Y/n)."

They immediately grew stiff and turned around. They looked down at the Captain for a moment, feeling their whole world spin in delight. Fighting off a huge smile, they played it cool.

"Ah, morning Levi. I didn't hear you come in."

"That's okay. I saw you with four-eyes yesterday. What did they drag you off to do?" He moved closer, looking up at them with interest.

"Nothing special," they yawned. "But, they certainly kept me up all night..."

Levi nodded, the corners of his lips twitching upwards. "I can make us some tea. We haven't sat down to have it in a while."

(Y/n) looked down at him with sleepy eyes before giving him a small nod and smile. Levi moved past them to grab the kettle before Hange burst in.

"Oi! (L/n)! Let's get a move on, you promised to do some more experiments with me today!"

"O-oh, I did? Ah, 'm sorry Levi. Guess tea'll have to wait."

Levi looked up at them, then over at Hange with a slight glare. "...sure. I'll have tea with myself, then."

Hange dragged (Y/n) off, then stuck their tongue out at Levi when they weren't looking.

Second Time

Erwin had been keeping (Y/n) busy with meetings. Well, Erwin told Miche, Hange and Levi as such. In reality, it was to have conversations about the media he consumed when he found out they consumed the same ones. It was a good past time and a great way to grow closer to Erwin, but (Y/n) would be lying if they said it wasn't weird to see Erwin in that state.

Currently, they were running ten minutes late for their "meeting" with the man. Turning a corner to run up some stairs without looking, (Y/n) hadn't noticed Levi until they hit each other.

"Ah, L-Levi! I'm sorry, I'm in a bit of a rush."

"Woah, hey, what about?" Levi shot his hand out to grab their wrist when they tried to move past.

"I'm sorry, I'm late for a meeting with Erwin."

Levi narrowed his eyes. "You've been having a lot of those with him lately."

"I know, I'm sorry. I promise soon we'll sit down and actually have a conversation. But right now, I really need to-"

"(Y/n)! Hurry. My office, now!" Erwin called from the top of the stairs.

"A-Ah, sorry sir! I'm sorry Levi, I gotta go." They slipped from his grip and ran up the remaining stairs.

Levi gave Erwin a hard glare once he saw (Y/n) slip into his office. Erwin caught it and just shut his door. The blonde authority figure turned to (Y/n), who had seated themselves in their usual spot before looking up at him.

"Yes?"

"Before we begin, I have to ask, is there something going on between you and Captain Levi?"

(Y/n) quirked a brow. "Huh? No. Who told you there was?"

"Nobody. Just, nevermind. It's probably nothing." Erwin shook his head.

"Uh, alright, sir. Anyways, continue."

Third Time

Reiner was leading (Y/n) by the small of their back onto the training field. "I don't think we've trained like this since our boot camp days! You got so wrapped up in that Levi guy that you just kinda stopped hanging out with all of us."

"Yeah," Eren piped up. "Did you guys break up or something, by the way? Levi's been looking real sour for the past month and a half and you've been spending all your time with us..."

"Don't be silly, they never dated in the first place. Right?" Reiner looked down at them.

"Yeah." (Y/n) nodded.

Eren chuckled. "But you'd like to."

That earned him an elbow in the side. "Shut your face! He might hear you!"

Reiner snickered while Eren let out a pained laugh. "Aw, c'mon, (Y/n)! He's not out here."

"You don't know that. He could be behind us and we wouldn't know unless he says-"

"Oi."

"Yeah, that."

(Y/n) then suddenly went stiff before turning around with the two men. Levi didn't look too happy.

"Reiner. Get your hand off them."

"Why, Captain? I was leading them out into the grounds to train."

"With Eren, too? Likely story."

"Captain Levi, please, we were all gonna train and-" (Y/n) tried reasoning.

"And what? Blow off our plans again?"

"What? What plans? We never-"

But all too quickly, Levi snatched (Y/n)'s wrist and stalked off with them, leaving a cackling Eren and Reiner behind. (Y/n) could only mindlessly follow Levi with how hard his grip was. They'd never break it if they tried.

Eventually, Levi brought them into the kitchen where he plopped them at a table. "Sit while I make tea. Don't let four-eyes barge in again."

(Y/n) could only dumbly sit there. "But I thought..."

Levi put the kettle on the stove. "Thought what?"

"Hange said that you wouldn't like me being around all the time."

"When'd they say that?" Levi turned to look at them.

"That sleepless night I had, when you watched them drag me off? I thought I was giving you space."

"Too much space." Levi sat across from them. "Besides, Hange will say anything they want to get others to experiment with them."

(Y/n)'s gaze flicked to the shorter man. "You mean this whole time, it didn't really matter...?"

"Oh no it did. It mattered that you'd suddenly put so much space between us. I didn't like it, especially when I saw Reiner on you...made my blood boil." Levi glared at the table.

(Y/n) felt their face heat up. "So...so what should I do to make it up to you?"

Levi's gaze snapped up to their's, softening almost immediately. "Spend time with me again. I don't care who complains."

(Y/n) stared at the Captain, gaping in awe. "O-okay, can do."

"Good. Now close your mouth, you look like a fish." Levi leaned forward and delicately closed their mouth with his thumb and forefinger, his touch lingering a little longer than it should've before the kettle began to scream.

"Ah- ready already? I'll pour it for us." Levi got up and walked past them, ruffling their hair as he went.

Coming back, Levi bent over from behind them to set their cup down. One of his hands rested on their shoulder and gently squeezed, while his other was used to hold the cup as he drank. (Y/n) noticed how close he was standing and just smiled softly to themselves.

Grabbing the cup and taking a sip, they leaned back and affectionately rested their head against Levi's torso.

"Thank you, Lev."

"Mhm." Sip.

V….. Yes you read that right, my name is V or rather you could say that people call me V. I’m 24 years old and I’m eyebrow’s Erwin’s sister….well to be honest adopted sister. I will tell you about that in another time. I work under Hange’s division and she’s also my best friend. She can be a little crazy but I love her regardless of her creepy obsession with titans. I have the highest number of Titan kills in Hange’s division and I’m proud to say that I’m pretty good at it inspite of Erwin trying his best to keep me safe during most expeditions. Right now I’m on my way to Erwin’s office; he said that he has some important matters to discuss with me. I am worried about him since the time he got his hand ripped off by a titan while trying to save some of his cadets. He really is an amazing commander and a smart one at that too.

I was talking to myself that I didn’t notice that I arrived at his office. I knocked on his door when I heard him speaking with someone. But I couldn’t make out what exactly they were talking about. “Name and business?” I heard Erwin asking.

“It’s V and you called me here to discuss some important matters…” I replied but my voice trailed off towards the end. I felt nervous almost as if my life would change once I entered the office. But I pushed through and entered when I heard Erwin say, “Come in”.

When I entered I saw Le- no Captain Levi standing in front of the desk with a strange expression on his face almost as if he was surprised but also kind of relieved for some reason. But as soon as he saw me enter the office, his expression went back to neutral emotionless, cold face. His bluish grey eyes looked at me for a second before he sat back down in the chair and took a sip of his tea. I looked at Erwin and then sat at the chair in front of him and adjacent to Captain Levi. For almost two minutes no one said anything and Erwin avoided my eyes, almost as if he was hesitating on saying whatever he wanted to say.

“I don’t have all day you know…I have to go to Wall Sina and give a report to Commander Pixis on behalf of Hange” I said deciding to end the awkward silence in the room. I saw Captain Levi looking at me through the corner of his eyes but decided not to comment on it.

Erwin let a deep sigh as see looked back up into my eyes and started, “V…you know I love you and I only want the best for you.” He looked at the window at the far right of his office and hesitated before continuing, “I want you to marry Levi”. I was shocked to say the least and I just stared ahead at the wall behind Erwin and zoned out. My thoughts were running a million miles an hour. I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what to say and it felt as if I was having an out of body experience. You might think that I’m overreacting and some might even think I’m under reacting. But that’s because people don’t know my history with Captain Levi not even Erwin knows, the only people that do know are me, Captain Levi, Hange, Furlan and Isabel.

Suddenly I saw Erwin trying to get my attention so I looked at him and tried to say something but no words would come out of my mouth. He sighed, “I’m sorry if it seems like I’m forcing something on you but I want to see you happy. You have never dated anyone and it doesn’t seem like you’re even interested in someone but I really want you to be happy and settled in case I don’t happen to be here anymore. In the last expedition when the titan bit my hand off I felt like that was going to be my last few moments and it really scared me, not just for my well being but for yours. I know you can take care of yourself and you’re an independent woman but I want to be at peace when I die knowing that you have someone’s shoulder to cry on and look after you…and I think Levi is the best choice because not only is he a capable captain but also my closest friend. Please V…marry him.”

The more he kept speaking, the more I started feeling sick but I know he’s very stubborn and also that he won’t take no for an answer. I turned to look at Captain Levi and saw him looking at his tea intently, swirling it around occasionally. I wanted to say no, I wanted to run away but then I was reminded of how Erwin looked after me all these years, saved me from my past and gave me memories to hold onto when I lost hope and it was at that moment that I knew what my answer was……..

I walked into Hange’s headquarters thinking back to my discussion with Erwin and contemplated whether or not I had done the right thing. I was in my thoughts when I heard Connie calling out to me, “Hey V! Section commander is asking for you in the lab”. I nodded towards him and headed to the basement where the lab was located. I entered the lab and saw at Hange curiously looking at a vial of some disgusting purple liquid. I was used to looking at various disgusting stuff especially since I was often around her. I called out, “Hey glasses….whatcha up to?” as I looked into the documents scattered around her. “V!!! I’m so glad you’re here; I wanted someone to go through these documents and send a report to Commander Pix- ….Hey are you alright??” She tones down her excited tone and asks while looking closely at my face. I sighed as I turned and said sarcastically, “Yeah totally! Couldn’t be better!!”. She was quiet for a few and then continued, “ How about you give the reports to commander and then we can have a girls night with just us two!? I know you don’t like company so we’ll just go to your favourite bar and drink the night away while discussing and plotting the death of whoever hurt you. What do you say?” I chuckled as I turned to her and said, “Sure, sounds good. But before that I have work to do so…see ya later glasses”. As I walked out I heard a mumbled “See you V”.

Once I reached home after meeting the commander I was lying on my bed looking up at the ceiling and thought back about so many things that happened today.

~Flashback~

.....I knew what my answer was....

“Okay Erwin, I will marry Captain Levi” I said as I avoided both their eyes but I knew they were looking at me surprised or even shocked. “I have work now, so can I please be dismissed?” I said not wanting to be in the same room as either of them at the moment. Erwin sighed knowing I was upset and said, “Yes you are dismissed V…but remember that we still have to discuss about when and where this is going to happen.”

I didn’t say anything but got up from my seat and walked out of the office…

~End of Flashback~

I looked towards my clock and my eyes widened at the fact that almost two hours has gone by the time I was daydreaming. I got up, went to take a shower and stood in front of my closet looking for clothes to wear. I ended up wearing a red sundress that goes just below my knees with frills and white polka dots. I grabbed my purse and set out towards my favourite bar.

Once I entered the bar I looked for my best friend and saw her sitting in our place which was located at the corner of the bar where no one disturbs us. I joined her at the table and we ordered a wine and four beers which soon arrived. She asked, “So who do I have to kill for hurting my best friend huh??” I looked at her directly in the eye and replied, “Captain Levi”. She raised her eyebrows and sat back in her chair and said, “You guys haven’t talked in years and out of nowhere he pisses you off…Seems kind of sus if you ask me”.

One thing about Hange is that not only is she my bestfriend but she’s also one of the few ones that are close to Captain Levi. I knew that she would neither stand on my side nor his because of her mutual relationship with both of us. But when she realized that I was sad not pissed she leaned back in and tilted my head up so that I would face her and asked, “It’s not just Levi is it? What happened V…tell me I will always be here for you”

I don’t like to cry in front of anyone but I couldn’t stop myself when she asked me and tears started flowing down my face while I explained the arrangement made by Erwin for me and Captain Levi. She was speechless for the next ten minutes and kept opening and closing her mouth almost as if she wanted to tell me something but at the same time didn’t know what to tell me. She took the beer bottle directly in front of her and said, “I need to be drunk for this shit” and chugged the entire bottle in one go. She slammed the now empty bottle back on the table while I chucked at what she said earlier and leaned back into my chair and looked out the window to notice that it was now well into the night.

I looked back at Hange to notice that she was already looking at me and suddenly she jumped up and hugged me. I didn’t move knowing that I needed this hug and said, “I am scared Hange…I don’t know if I will be happy like Erwin expects or if I will even be able to survive under the same roof as Captain Levi…”. She sits back in her seat and looks at me and says, “You know…maybe it’s about time you forgive him and give each other another chance”. I breathed out and said, “There was never a chance to begin with Hange”. She gets up and glares at me, “Then start the story now, forget the past and work for the present. Both of you are made for each other but because of that one stupid incidence you hold a grudge on him and now you both ignore each other like the plaque. You are his soulmate and he is yours. What you both need is another chance or better a fresh start! He’s also my friend V, he also hates himself for what happened but how much further will you both hurt yourselves? A week? A year? Forever? I cannot give you the answer V, because I don’t have it but you do and you have to figure it out yourself. I will support you through it” I looked down as her words weighed on me and contemplated everything she said which seemed true.

I decided that I have had enough drinks for the day and said, “I think it’s about time we leave…it’s pretty dark out. I will think back on everything Hange but I cannot promise anything.” She turned back to her normal self and squealed, “Of course I know that V!! And if it doesn’t work out we can always marry each other”. I laughed at her antics and said, “Uh huh sure!” We giggled and received weird looks from people which made us laugh further. Finally we parted ways and went back to our homes.

I went to bed a little relieved compared to how I felt in the morning and as soon as my head touched the pillow I passed out.

I was 16 when I was rescued from my abusive household. I remember that day clearly almost as if it happened yesterday. I spend my entire childhood within the walls of Sina as my mother and father were known for their presence in the church. We were known as the Huxley family. My father was an avid believer that the walls were gifted by the god and that we should protect it with our everything. Whereas my mother was a two timer; on one side she would be like my father preaching the same, but at the same time she herself didn’t believe the exact words that came out of her mouth and on the other side she was the town whore. She would sleep around with almost everyone just so she could get her way towards anything and everything.

I had a sister who was 7 years older than me and she would often go to my father telling him about mom sleeping around with other men whenever he wasn’t home but he would never believe her and beat her up or sometimes even lock her in our basement without food or water for several days at a stretch. When my mother came to know of this, she manipulated my dad into sending her to the Survey corps without any prior experience. My father loved my mother so he does anything she asks for….

Now you might think as to why the town people never told my dad of my mother’s behavior. That’s because whoever does so where mysteriously found dead the next day by my mother’s thugs. At one point, people were so scared of her that they started avoiding our entire family like a plaque. They turned deaf ears to our screams and pleadings.

I remember spending time with my sister, Kaylie, and if anything she was the mother figure in my life. She would buy me clothes and give me good food unlike my mother who would give me her leftovers. She taught me to read and to survive my mother’s abuse. I will forever be thankful for her.

Three weeks after my mother send her to the Survey corps, we received the news that she was killed by an abnormal titan and there was no part of hers that remained. I cried for years because I was missing her and my mother’s abuse only became worse after she left. I tried running away, but she always found me and dragged me back to the hell hole.

I first met Erwin, who was a captain back then, when he came to our house to give the news of my sister’s death. His icy blue eyes looking calculative as always with a hint of compassion for the loss of a family member. He had a very intimidating aura which helped him look strong and proud. He reminded me of my sister in various ways, one of which being that he would try his best to help save someone to the best of his abilities irrespective of what his elders or seniors opinion on the matter.

The next few times I met him, I thought it was a complete coincidence until I happened to eavesdrop on one of his conversations. He was staying for the time being at a castle in its ruins due to years of negligence. I was passing by to retrieve water for my family from the river near the ruins when I heard noises coming from the castle which was unoccupied for as long as I remember. I leaned against a broken window to hear well and that’s when I recognized Erwin’s voice. I couldn’t see who he was talking to but I heard something along these lines, “You know John….there’s something really off about the Huxley family.”

“What’s that?” I heard John ask.

“Don’t you think it’s strange that Kaylie Huxley, who was working in the church all years of her life, happened to suddenly join us out of nowhere just when we were leaving for the most dangerous expedition we have had in the last three years?”

“Maybe you’re just over thinking this Captain” John sighed.

Erwin paid him no mind and continued, “It’s not just that, when I was inquiring about their family in the neighborhood, everyone seemed to avoid talking about them almost as if they were scared about something happening to them if they spoke a word about the Huxley’s.”

“….That’s a bit of a stretch Captain. Maybe they’re just not as well known for the neighbors to speak about them” John replied exhaustedly trying to end the conversation there.

“Negative! Mr. Huxley is very famous in the church especially for his preaching and is also close to the royal family. So, there’s no way the people don’t know about them” Erwin exclaimed thoughtfully.

“Why are you so obsessed with their family? Maybe they just wanted to help humanity by sending their beloved daughter to the survey corps. They probably didn’t even know about the danger factor of the expedition. We don’t have much proof to question them for their actions” Said John.

“A family who works for the royalty and the church must make more than enough to feed a family of four. Remember when we went to give them news on the death of their elder daughter, there I saw a teen probably around 15 or 16 years with bruises on her body and rag like clothing. The moment Mrs. Huxley found me looking at her, she shielded her from my line of vision and I also noticed that Mrs. Huxley had quite some jewelry on her. I searched through church documents and found that the teen is their younger daughter, her name is Verity….Verity Huxley. If all of this is true then two major factors needs to be assessed here, one Verity is being abused or used as a slave and two, sending Kaylie to our dangerous expedition was no coincidence. They were trying to kill her.”

[Verity as a first name is derived from a Latin feminine noun meaning ‘truth’]

I heard guards coming around the corner of the castle’s entrance so I decided to quickly get back to the path towards the river.

I didn’t see Erwin for the next few weeks so I just thought that he had left wall Sina to do his work since he was a captain afterall.

On the day after Halloween, I was woken up due to the commotion outside my house. I heard my mom screaming profanities at someone and it also sounded like many people were talking about something. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and blinked a few times. As soon as I was awake I called out, “Mom….can you open the door? I promise I won’t do it again…its dark in here and I’m a little scared. Can you please open the door mom? Please….” I trailed off when I heard someone opening the door to the basement I was locked in on because I ate mom’s leftovers the previous night without asking her.

The door was swung open while the light from outside almost blinded me and I squinted my eyed trying to adjust to the light. I looked up and was shocked to see Erwin with some senior officials standing on the doorway. Erwin turned and said to one of the officers, “She is their youngest daughter, Verity Huxley also the sister of Kaylie Huxley. She was the one I told you about.” The officer looked at me, my condition as well as my surroundings and then whispered something to one of the soldiers who then walked out. The officer then said to Erwin, “I’ll leave her to you then. Ensure a safe and healthy surrounding for her and then report back to me later.” They nodded at each other and everyone other than Erwin left the house.

“What happened to mom and dad?” I asked Erwin. He looked at me, smiled and said, “You don’t have to worry about them anymore…they’re where they belong. I know that you don’t know much about me and probably don’t trust me but I can give you a place you can call home and good food. So you might have to trust me and come with me.”

“Are you sure she won’t come wherever you’re taking me? Will I be safe?” I asked feeling a little hesitant to follow him knowing that she might hurt him if she gets a hold of me ever again. “I promise. And even if she does, I’ll keep you safe…she’ll never be able to hurt you like this again.” He said having a serious and genuine look on his face. He has kept his side of the promise so far.
