so i saw some people on tiktok trying to cancel Given and i wanted to share my thoughts on this real quick
first of all, of course everyone is free to agree or disagree with me and everyone is free to like or dislike Given. this is in no way, shape or form a hate post or a post to force an opinion. let's get to it now
if you havent read chapter 11/watched episode 9 i advise you to stop reading since this will contain spoilers
the reason people are trying to cancel Given is because Mafuyu and Yuki had sex when they were 14, something which baffles me.
these are the manga panels of them sleeping together. as you can see the scene is there to show how deep their relationship was. it serves no sexual purpose, instead it comes as part of their story.
if you've read the manga/watched the anime you've seen the images before it. images of Mafuyu as a kid talking to Yuki about how his dad hits him and Yuki replying that he doesnt have a dad, images of the boys growing up and being together. the author wanted to show their story through Mafuyu's song to amplify the song's emotion and also to show us exactly what Mafuyu is trying to say. the song is called a winter's story and that story is the one that's being shown through those images
sex was part of their relationship and theres nothing wrong with that because they were the same age, they both consented and it was presented as part of their story and not as a way to sexualise them
Given is one of the first manga ive read that portray gay relationships in such a healthy way and to try to cancel is just beyond me. theres manga who fetishise mlm relationships and have very graphic sex scenes (non-consensual and sometimes paedophilic as well). this one is not like that

Given’s Only Shop and Umibe no Etranger movie
I have a fun day at Ikebukuro today so I guess I will write a little report :3 Because you know, how often do you see two great BL series side by side like this?
It is like a dream came true for me, really!
Given’s Only Shop starts today (here in Japan they use the word only shop to mean a special event space that sells goods of only that one series). I already expected that it will be crowded because the first time they opened a Given only shop last year, I had to line up 3 hours to get in. However this time was MUCH MORE than that! Animate shop announced that they will start distributing entrance tickets with random entry number for everyone who line up between 8:50 and 9:20 in the morning. But by 8:50 this morning there was already like 200 people gathering so we ended up having to queue to draw our ticket. The line starts from the entrance of the shop, going up to the stairs, going in each floor, going up to 8th floor then back down one more time, and finally goes a good 20-30m outside. In the end, they decided that they will not be able to let everyone in so they have to included blank tickets in the lots, which means if u draw a blank ticket you won’t be able to get in ;; That alone shows how popular Given is here. I’m lucky enough to avoid drawing the blank ticket and was able to get in though. Took me a good 40 minutes waiting with anxiety 😂
And as usually I collected a lot of Ugetsu goods! He is my light! The photo card with him waving and smiling is the movie bonus for the 5th week. It just started today but they already ran out of bonus in Ikebukuro from the first day. After the movie, Ugetsu has become very popular here and getting hands on his stuff is not as easy as before.

Now speaking about Etranger (I called it like that because the name is quite long and everyone here just uses Etoranze - エトランゼ for short lol), I actually watched it one time last week and today was my second time. And I can say I can watch it a hundred times more if only my wallet allows me to xD
Bought some badges and a super cute mug featuring their 3 cats in the movie. (If you notice, Kii Kanna sensei loves cat. You can see cats in all of sensei’s art. The cats in the movie were super lovey-dovey too!)
For the first week, the bonus is a big coaster of young Mio eating crab rice ;A; There is a scene in the movie when young Mio eating crab rice with his mother it was so cute ;; For the second week, you get a small booklet with comments of all staff and a cute new art from sensei <3
About the movie itself, I love it so much it is so pleasant to watch. The production team did a great job on everything. The sceneries are especially beautiful. They did change a few things and added a few things too but overall it was very satisfying. You can feel love in the air watching it. All the characters are done very nicely you cannot really hate on any. Oh and the kiss scenes are all great. Even “that scene” when they did it for the first time was unexpectedly detailed it made me wonder why it is only PG12 lol. But it was done beautifully and I don’t have any complains at all. If the movie becomes available in your country, I really recommend it. It is a treat to the eye.
Given Story Time!
Last year in September... I went to Japan! And I can't believe I never shared this before, honestly I forgot I've forgotten (does that make sense?). Nevertheless!! Here are some stuff I've scouted out with my outstanding Given spotting senses.
The Noitama cafe (located on the artifical island of Odaiba in Tokyo) is the place where all the Given anime episodes premiered!! And they had a special Given menu (of both food and drinks) and with every order you got a special envelope with gifts. And what were the chances I got both Uenoyama and Mafuyu. I mean ❤
Bonus stories!
I got to see the episode 9 premiere while in Japan! That's right I saw the concert then and there and it was beyond astonishing. Did I cry in public? My lawyer advised me to say nothing about that (☺️)!
The song "Fuyu no Hanashii" got released while I was in Japan and I got to listen to it on repeat.
It was an outstanding experience and sometimes I still can't believe I was there during all that!!
