"kinich."
"sweetheart."
"get down from the tree, kinich."
"you're supposed to be asleep."
you don't respond; he swings down from the tree and repeats his words. again, you don't answer, and there's a slight tinge of pink across your cheeks. you look away, refusing to meet his eyes and his normally relaxed gaze widens.
"you don't say—"
"shut up!"
"i mean, if you missed me that much." kinich's face doesn't change, but there's an annoying amused lilt to his tone. "here, i'll take you home."
you shake your head obstinately. "and then what? you'll leave me all alone and come to hang out with your— your stupid tree and ajaw!"
"my— what?" an incredulous laugh bubbles out of him, and he takes ahold of your wrist gently. "sweetheart, i think you're just feeling cranky. because you're, y'know, not sleeping?"
"i am sleeping!"
he fixes you with another uncomfortably long, disbelieving stare before you finally give up. "okay, yes, maybe i've been sleeping a little less—"
"too less. we're going home, stat. or i can sic ajaw on you, your choice."
"foolish creatures, as if i, the great k'uhul ajaw—"
kinich looks up, snaps his fingers. "ajaw, timeout."
ajaw disappears with an anguished yell, leaving the two of you alone again.
"so? your choice." he holds out a hand towards you, and you begrudgingly step closer to him.
"only if you stay with me."

kinich x fem reader ! celebrity au, .9k words PLUS exes to lovers, swearing, suggestive jokes + implied nsfw ( ? scene transitions from their conversation to "the morning after")

it's at a high-profile red carpet that you see him again — at least in person. kinich, two and a half years older, and much more mature, but exactly the same otherwise. there's even that stupid signature smile of his, lazy and smug, plastered onto his face as usual. you'd loved it once; now you despise it. or so you've tried to convince yourself.
he's not wearing anything spectacular, a dark unbuttoned suit and matching dress pants and a white shirt that deliciously accentuates the broadness of his chest. somehow he still manages to effortlessly knock the breath right out of your chest — and even more so when you notice the colour of his tie; it matches your outfit perfectly.
in the back of your mind, you know this has something to do with your mutual friends, but you can't be bothered to worry about that right now. not when he's grinning down at you, arms crossed over his chest, waiting for you to break the silence.
you jut your chin up defiantly; not today, kinich. he tilts his head to one side curiously, shit-eating grin widening. your lips purse; he blinks. it's getting awkward now — he's so annoying. you scoff angrily, and kinich has won.
"what?"
"what what?" you feel a sudden stab of pain — you've missed his voice.
"what do you want?" you get out through gritted teeth.
kinich is good at what he does, always has been. he's never been the type to hesitate, always straight to the point. now, too, it does not change. "come back with me tonight."
your first response should be something related to the fact that the two of you broke up for a reason. that going back right now will be suicide. but instead...
"what about her?" you hiss, jerking your head in the direction of (you hope) his hotel. a thoughtless gesture, asking about the woman he's been seen with after your very public breakup.
he laughs. "that? it was just publicity, darling. she means nothing to me."
then, softer: "please, i've missed you every single day since then; it's only ever been you."
"prove it."
never one to back down from a challenge, he leans in closer to you. "how 'bout i show you in my hotel room?"
smooth. aloud, you acknowledge it as such, too, but still. "really, kinich?"
"if you want, i'm sure we can find some privacy here," he teases.
you grimace, nose crinkling up cutely. "how do you know i even want this? what if i don't want anything to do with you?"
there is suddenly an air of triumph about him; you realise that you have made a big mistake.
"my love, those questions just confirmed it."
the unfamiliar nickname makes you bristle, but it's surprisingly not unwelcome.
he waits for your confirmation, and well?
(you end up in his bed anyways, so your answer should be pretty clear.)
you wake up in an empty bed; if he's intended for this to be a one night thing, you're going to murder him, you think. he walks back into the room a second after that, though, and now you're chewing on the inside of your cheek because of the very noticeable lack of a shirt on him.
"baby, we've gone viral," he grins.
"again? kinich, you suck!"
"that's not what you said last night when—"
"okay!" you cut him off. "shut up, i get it!"
he tosses his phone to you, where a video's playing, captioned: deaf woman lipreads conversation between kinich and y/n at the red carpet.
"oh god," you groan as it begins to play. one side of the bed sinks down as kinich climbs in next to you. his arm wraps around you as he pulls you into him; you nestle into his side and it's painfully familiar. you've missed him more than you thought.
"let me watch, i haven't finished it yet."
the woman on the screen begins to speak into the microphone she's holding up. so, kinich starts speaking. he wants them to go back to his hotel, but she's asking about a "her", who's probably chasca, AKA his ex. he says it was for publicity, and ooh— he just called her "darling"! he says it's only ever been y/n... woah... she's not buying it, she's asking him to prove it. he says he'll prove it at his place, wow, that was smooth, that's what she said, by the way, not me! she's still not impressed, now he's talking about finding somewhere private here, like at the event! i think he's joking, though, oh my gosh, he just called her "my love"! that's so cute—
you pause the video. "can she stop talking for a sec? this is so annoying!"
"i know, right?" he agrees. "can't even talk to my girl without some freak on the internet trying to listen in."
my— his— oh. your brain short circuits. "kinich."
"hmm?" he's not paying attention, leisurely tracing hearts onto your hipbone.
"what are we?"
he gets up, readjusts the two of you so your eyes. "married soon— i mean, in a relationship again, at least. be honest, don't you think we could try again? we've changed enough, i think."
"well, yeah, i guess. we were both stupid back then."
"we still are now," you correct him; kinich is not amused.
"you didn't answer my question, can we try again?"
"i think we can," you nod thoughtfully. "but what if it ends the way it did before?"
"naaah, it won't end at all," he laughs, and then he leans down to kiss you.

"She might let you stay
with Kinich"

Walking into your home for something more than just a friendly hangout was an experience Kinich never dreamt of encountering. He never really dreamt of hanging out with anyone. In his head, there wasn't much use for dreaming of others. At least, that was the case before you.
In your comfortable attire, you smiled at him from your couch. "I'm so glad you were able to come, Kinich." It wasn''t his first time in your abode, but it was the first time you asked him on a date. Granted, it wasn't anything special. Just a dinner at home with maybe a kiss at the end.
"I wouldn't leave you hanging. You should know that by now if we are going to date." So upfront, as always. He took his seat beside you and was a bit taken aback as you leaned against him. His left shoulder was made into a pillow as you relaxed into his stiff figure.
It wasn't something he ever prepared himself for. The feeling of another person making home in his heart before he could prepare for any cautionary measures.

BETTER SCENERY. . .ᐟ — kinich.
᱖ content: established relationship, reader is gender-neutral, kinich’s personality might be ooc, tooth-rotting fluff.
᱖ from hye: finished natlan’s quest and i am now in love with kinich, thank you for attending my ted talk.

“Wait, I can’t do this! I think I’m going to fall!” You shrieked, squeezing your eyes shut as you clung onto Kinich for dear life, as if he was your final lifeline. Except it proves to be quite accurate in your current position.
You could feel the wind slapping your cheeks as you moved through the sky. The way Kinich moved is with ease and many years of experience put into it. Your grip tightened on your partner’s frame as you buried your face in his chest, trying to hide your face.
“Don’t be silly, you won’t fall,” he chuckled.
His laugh would have made your heart skip a beat if it weren’t for the fact that both of you were flying across the sky at lightning speed. An undignified noise left your lips when he made an abrupt turn to his right, resulting in you tightening your grip, if that was even possible. After what felt like decades, Kinich finally came to a stop as his speed gradually slowed down. Your shoulders sagged with relief the moment you felt solid ground beneath your feet.
However, the moment your feet touch the ground, your knees immediately give way. You would have kissed the ground if Kinich had not caught you in the nick of time. You flashed him a grateful smile; a gesture he returned with his own. To everyone else, Kinich appears aloof and unapproachable, always asking people how much they are willing to pay him for his service. But when it comes to you, Kinich appears as a different person.
When he is with you, he is more expressive. Kinich always makes it a point to have you stay within his sight, not wanting you to stray away from him to the point he could not find you. The last thing he wants is for you to stumble into the jaws of danger and he doubts he could ever forgive himself for putting you in harm’s way. Once he deems you are steady enough to walk without his help, he moves away but still remains close; the thought behind his action makes your heart flutter in your chest.
You inhaled and exhaled, breathing in the fresh air Natlan has to offer. “You know, no matter how many times I’ve come here, this view never fails to take my breath away.”
“Hm.”
Kinichi said nothing, choosing to merely hum in response. He crossed his arms, standing slightly behind you on your right as he observed you from the corner of his eyes. He was able to get a glimpse of how your eyes drink in the scenery spread out before you, how your eyes literally twinkled in delight and joy and how your lips parted, forming a silent ‘O’ shape. The sight of you acting like a child stepping out to explore the outside world made his eyes softened.
“Kinich, why are you standing there? Come here!”
He blinked, caught off-guard when you dragged him forward with your fingers interlocked together; not like he has the intention of letting go in the first place. He eventually finds himself standing beside you, shoulders touching. Caressing your knuckles with his gloved fingers, he could not find it in himself to tear his eyes away from you.
“Hey, stop staring at me. It’s embarrassing,” you muttered, your cheeks flushing red the longer you felt his piercing gaze on you.
“Nah, I prefer this view instead,” he teased, letting out a rare laugh when you smacked his shoulder, too flustered to utter a single word.
All he could pray for was he could spend the rest of his life with you by his side and perhaps, he might find life to be more worth living for.
A WARM WELCOME . .ᐟ — kinich.
᱖ content: established relationship, reader is gender-neutral, reader is introduced to kachina and mualani, the natlan trio as a found family trope.
᱖ from hye: here's something i wrote at work to celebrate kinich's banner release for tomorrow! may all kinich wanters be kinich havers!!! @kazuhaiku

“Say, is it me or has Kinich been… happier for the past few days?” Kachina whispered to Mualani.
The two girls were hanging out together as always and the shorter girl was the first to bring the topic up. Mualani hums, lazily swinging her feet back and forth in the air. They sat by the edge of the edge, their feet grazing against the cooling surface of the small pool located in the People of the Springs. The pools proved to be an effective way to help the members of the tribe to cool down.
“Hm? What do you mean, Kachina?” Mualani asked her friend, despite already knowing the reason for the male’s change of behavior.
“Well, the two-! Wait, look over there!” Kachina was about to explain herself when she spotted two very familiar figures from a distance. She wasted no time in pointing them out, startling the nearby people from her sudden outburst as they recovered themselves and continued on their way.
“Hm?”
Mualani followed the direction of where she was pointing. The sight of Kinich walking together with someone nearly made her blow her cover. But she was an incredible actress; well, that’s what she hoped she was. Grinning from ear to ear, the girl wrapped her arm around Kachina’s shoulders and giggled.
“Kachina, isn’t it obvious why Kinich is happier these days?”
“Huh? What are you talking about?” Kachina asked, innocently blinking her eyes at her.
“Kachina Kachina, when someone falls in love, of course they will be in a good mood! Well, it’s still too young for you to understand,” she explained, playfully ruffling the other’s hair.
“I-In love!?” Kachina squeaked, ears turning red as if she was embarrassed by the thought of it.
“Haha, why are you embarrassed! Come on, we should say hi to them and maybe Kinich can introduce his partner to us,” she laughed, dragging her poor friend along before she could voice her own thoughts.
~
“Are those your friends? It looks like they are coming over,” you inquired, pointing ahead of you and before your boyfriend could reply, the two girls came to a stop before you.
You had to hold back a chuckle when you saw how the shorter hid herself behind her friend, using her as protection. The sight was adorable when she snuck a peek at you, her hands gripping onto the back of the other’s clothes. Kinich on the other hand, was not amused with the unwanted interruption. He sighed, crossing his arms and arched an eyebrow.
“What is it now?” He deadpanned, earning a light kick to his feet for his rather rude tone.
“We were wondering who your partner is and thought we could introduce ourselves to them! You know, so we could be friends,” the girl with blue and white hair beamed, reaching her hand out for a handshake towards you.
“Hi there, I’m Mualani! Nice to meet you, thanks for taking care of Kinich on our behalf. It’s great that he has someone as amazing as you.”
Her compliment made you flushed slightly as you accepted her handshake. “Nice to meet you too, I’m (Name) and really, the same could be said to you too. I think Kinich is a great guy, although he could be more expressive.”
“I’m right here, you know,” his remark was ignored by everyone.
“And this is Kachina! Don’t mind her, she’s a little shy,” Mualani looked over to the girl who goes by Kachina, gently nudging her forward so she could properly introduce herself.
You bent down so you were eye-level with her, not wanting to intimidate her with your taller figure. You gave her a gentle and reassuring smile. “Hi Kachina, it’s great to meet you.”
“H-Hello (Name), it’s great to meet you too,” she stuttered over the first word but managed to regain herself, shyly smiling at you. It took all of your will to resist the tempting urge to squish her cheeks together; the sight beyond adorable for your poor heart to handle.
“How did the two of you meet?” Mualani asked, choosing to stop beating around the bush as curiosity had gotten the better of her.
“I had to save them when they accidentally slipped and if it weren’t for me, they would have fell to their death,” Kinich briefly explained, much to your utter horror and disbelief.
“Kinich! Can you at least say you saved me from Saurains or something!” You whined, your response making your partner roll his eyes, sighing in exasperation.
“Oh, was it love at first sight for you two?” Maulani teased, playfully wiggling her eyebrows.
“I-”
“Alright, that’s enough. We have somewhere else to be, so if you excuse us, we will be taking our leave,” Kinich interrupted, pulling you away from his friends as he grabbed your hand; interlocking your fingers together.
You managed to bid them farewell before they eventually vanished from your sight. Once they were gone, you turned to your boyfriend and couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the sight of his red ears and flushed cheeks.
“What’s so funny?” He shot you a light-hearted glare, and you choose not to tease him.
“Nothing, I just think you’re cute, that’s all,” you chuckled, moving closer to press a chaste kiss on his cheek.
“Well, I think you’re ugly.”
“Hey!”
CHASING REDEMPTION. . .ᐟ — kinich.
᱖ content: modern+spiderman au, established relationship, reader is gender-neutral, both reader and kinich are in college, reader knows kinich's true identity, angst with comfort, happy ending dw.
᱖ from hye: ever since i saw this one edit of peter parker jumping down to save gwen… i knew what i had to do, except there is a small twist at the end. @kazuhaiku

Kinich swore he had planned the entire process in his mind. Everything was in place and all he needed was to be mentally and physically prepared to tell you the truth. But no matter how many plans he came up with, he did not take into account how a sudden robbery happened, resulting in him having to leap into action. He did not take into account how the robbery was not what it seems, with the robbers more than prepared to stand their grounds. They were armed with dangerous weapons that one could only obtain through illegal means.
One thing led to another and he ended up arriving hours later than the agreed time. Kinich arrived at the agreed venue for your date and he was not surprised to spot no sign of you. He pointedly ignored the pitiful look the staff threw his way when he left in a hurry. Not wanting to waste anymore time, he used his spiderwebs to zip across the sky, turning a blind eye to how some people stopped to glance at him.
It took him exactly five minutes to arrive at the balcony of your apartment. He nimbly landed on his feet, peering through the windows as his eyes furiously scanned your room. He swore his heart shattered when he saw a lump laying on the bed, covered with a blanket from head to toe.
Knock knock. Knock knock.
You raised your head when you heard someone knocking on your window, revealing your swollen eyes and tearstained face. You frowned when you realized it was your boyfriend. A part of you wants to leave him outside but you knew he was too stubborn for his own good. Surrendering, you unreluctantly crawled out of bed and moved to the window stand, unlocking the lock and slid it open. Shivers ran down your spine when the freezing wind grazed your skin.
“What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be busy saving the city or something?” You asked, the sarcasm dripping in your tone made Kinich winced.
Normally, you would have felt remorse at how you snapped at him but you have had enough. Clenching and unclenching your fists, you looked at him with narrowed eyes. “Look, I’m not in the mood to talk to you right now. You can come back another time-”
“No, I know you’re mad at me and I want to talk about it now,” he interrupted.
And that was the final straw.
“It’s always all about you, you, you! When have you ever thought about me!? I bet the thought of me sitting in a cafe or restaurant, waiting for my boyfriend for hours, only for him to never turn up has never crossed your mind! Do you know how downright humiliating it is for me to leave and how I have to tolerate the sympathy glances thrown my way, as I walk out of the place? I know you’re doing a good deed by saving the city but sometimes, I wish you could set aside some time for me.”
Your voice cracked like a whip, startling Kinich into silence. The fire in your eyes was undeniable, a mix of betrayal and exasperation. He tried to respond but you didn’t let him.
“I don’t know how much longer I can do this. It feels like you don’t even care about me anymore and this relationship is starting to feel one-sided,” your voice grew a notch softer, exhaustion evident in your voice; as if you had already given up trying to fight for something that was no longer there anymore.
“If you’re not going to say anything, then I think it’s best to end this. Goodbye Kinich and I wish you the best of luck,” you forced a teary-eyed smile at him, sliding the door closed and pulling the curtains, not wanting to see him a second longer.
Kinich on the other hand, was rendered speechless. He wanted to talk to you again but since it was clear you had cut the line, he had no choice but to respect your decision. After sparing your window one more glance, he zips away into the dark sky.
~
The next three weeks passed slowly. Both of you were busy preparing for your final exams of the semester. No matter how hard you try to focus on your studies, you just cannot seem to stop thinking about Kinich. Random thoughts like ‘is he doing fine?’, ‘has he eaten?’ and sometimes ‘I hope he’s not hurt again…’. You have not consulted your group of friends about your relationship but judging from how he was not constantly by your side, they already knew what happened.
Currently, you are heading home after spending hours cramped in the campus library. You were too exhausted to be mindful of your surroundings. You had no idea that you were being followed, until it was too late.
“Mphmf-!?”
Your startled shout was instantly muffled when a gloved hand covered your mouth. Your sight turned blurry after you accidentally inhaled something. The last thing you heard was a man saying something along the lines of using you as bait for Spiderman, before everything turned black.
When you regained consciousness, it took all of your willpower to not scream at how you were dangerously dangling in the air. The only thing supporting you was the rope tightly tied around your waist. Your wrists were tied and held behind your back. You didn’t dare try to move about, not wanting the rope to snap into half. You looked around, squinting your eyes as you tried to make sense of where you were through the darkness.
All you could see was long and rectangular-shaped steel bars and you knew you were on a construction site. The pockets of your jeans were empty, meaning your kidnappers must have taken your phone after you were knocked out. There was nothing much you could do, except to play the role of a waiting duck. You sighed, lowering your head to look down at the ground and for a split moment, the thought of death flew through your mind.
“Look who’s awake? Are you getting anxious that Spiderman isn’t here yet?” A sinister voice pierced through the silence.
You raised your head to see two armed and masked men approaching you, coming to a stop at the edge. One man has a muscular build while the other man was as thin as a branch. Not wanting them to know they have the upperhand, you merely remained silent and looked at them with a bored expression.
“I won’t rely on him that much if I were you. I doubt he knows that you guys are waiting for him,” you replied.
The muscular man laughed. “Hah! Nice try, kid. But we’ve managed to drop him a nice little text using your phone, telling him to meet us here at nine sharp. And if he doesn’t, then I guess you can say bye to that boyfriend of yours.”
Your blood ran cold at his words.
“I’m here now, let them go.”
A familiar voice interrupted your brief conversation. The two men turned around and there he was; Spiderman in his glory. You knew Kinich was seething with rage, judging from how his fists were clenched tightly the moment he was informed that you were held hostage. The men smirked in triumph as they slowly approached him, leaving you there to observe the scene unfold by itself.
“About time you show up. It’s time for revenge for what you did to my face,” the muscular man said, pointing at his masked face with his thumb as he pulled out a gun. You gulped when you saw how dangerous they looked.
“I don’t remember doing such a thing to you, but perhaps it might be a good thing for you,” your ex(?) replied, and you would have snickered if not for your current situation.
“How dare you! I should have killed you when I had the chance!” He roared, enraged and started running full speed at Kinich, with his fellow partner-in-crime hot on his heels.
From your vantage point, you watched with bated breath, heart racing as Kinich faced off against the two heavily-armed men. The tension crackled in the air, thick and electric. Kinich moved with a mix of agility and determination, dodging a flurry of blows while keeping his focus sharp. You could see the muscles in his jaw tighten as he assessed the situation, calculating his next move.
Each clash of steel rang out, echoing in the stillness around them. The men were imposing, their weapons gleaming menacingly in the light, but Kinich stood his ground, a fierce intensity in his eyes. With every punch and counter, you felt your own pulse quicken. You could only watch, willing him to outsmart his opponents and to emerge from the intense battle unscathed. Just when the fight was about to hit the climax and the two men were on the verge of being defeated, the skinny man turned to you.
You watched in pure horror as he raised his weapon, aiming at the rope and fired. Whatever happened next was in slow motion. Your vision made an abrupt turn to the right, as gravity took over your body and pulled you down. The high-pitched scream you let out was not enough to describe the pure fear pumping through your veins. You made eye contact with Kinich and you could imagine the look of disbelief mixed with horror behind the mask.
“Kinich!”
You screamed his name at the top of your lungs as your body began its descent to the hard concrete ground at lightning speed. Kinich forced himself to move, dodging the poor attempts of the men trying to stop him. Just for good measure, he shot a few webs aimed at their limbs to prevent them from moving. He jumped off the edge without hesitation, reaching out his hand as he tried to grab you.
“Hold on, I’m coming!” He shouted, pure desperation heard in his voice.
With a swift, fluid motion, he shot his web toward you, the silken strands glistening in the air before they wrapped securely around your stomach. Before you could even react, he yanked you towards him, the world spinning as you felt the force of his pull. Just as you landed against him, he swung into the air, the rush of wind whipping past you. Your heart raced as he propelled you both over the danger, each swing taking you away from the chaos below.
He landed gracefully in a safe area, setting you down gently. Your breath caught in your throat as you met his gaze—eyes fierce yet filled with concern.
“Are you okay?” he asked, urgency in his voice, the adrenaline still coursing through him. You nodded, shaken but alive, gratitude swelling within you.
Your entire body was trembling like a fallen leaf. Kinich gently placed you on the ground, still holding you as your legs gave way. You remained still, the adrenaline and fear of experiencing close death still pumping through your veins as he removed the web from your frame, wincing at how some were still stuck on your clothes. None of you said a word after that, unsure of what to say to break the silence.
“I-”
He wanted to speak, but you threw yourself at him, hugging him with a vice-like grip as you buried your face in the crook of his neck. Kinich fumbled about due to your combined weight but he managed to catch himself before he could hit his head against the ground. He removed the gloves and pulled the mask off, placing them on the side as he returned the embrace. Your sniffles and sobs were the only thing occupying the silence and Kinich knew you were beyond terrified of what you had just gone through.
“Hey, it’s fine now. You’re safe, don’t worry, I got you,” he murmured, speaking in a soft and gentle tone as he reassures you. He ran his hand through your hair; an action he knows you love by heart.
“I was so scared… I thought I was going to die…” You whimpered through your tears as you moved away from him, resting your hands on his shoulders.
“Kinich, I’m sorry for snapping at you. That wasn’t nice of me, especially when you are doing something good which is saving the city and people,” you apologized, but he shook his head.
“You don’t have to apologize. You weren’t in the wrong, in fact, it should be me. I shouldn’t have neglected you to the point where you felt like the relationship had become one-sided. I promise you that from now on, I will give you more of my time,” he gave you a small smile, reaching out to wipe away the stray teardrop on your cheek.
“But, I don’t want to get in the way of your duty,” you protested.
He merely shrugged his shoulders. “I’m sure the police can handle the troubles themselves for a day or more.”
You chuckled and his features softened when he heard your laugh. You flinched when he suddenly carried you bridal-style in his arms after he stuffed his gloves and mask into his pocket.
“Now that we’re done here, it’s time to go home, shall we?” He asked, looking down at you with a loving smile.
“Indeed, we shall, Spiderman.”
