I really love MAPPA's decision to make Yuji's mouth wound much more gnarly. Not all of the fight additions this season have worked for me, but I think this week's episode was great all the way through. The exact moment Yuji got his mouth scar is a little unclear in the manga, so the anime making both scarring moments clear and visceral was fun to see. Yuji's face scars are essentially Mahito's legacy on the story, emblematic of his trauma and shift in mindset. They really did a great job selling the grittiness of the Yuji-Mahito fights.

How valid are my issues with the jjk s2 anime if many of my annoyances are just additions to the manga? Most (not all) of the extended fight sequences just felt weightless to me. At its best the additions were fun fanservice, which is fine. New moments or character beats in a fight are fun when they don't halt the pace. At its worst it feels like empty spectacle, sticking out like a sore thumb. Whenever a character shot out a thousand tiny energy attacks that honed in on their target, for example, I sort of zoned out. Why does Geto have so many squids?

But I'm torn, because this was such a well-animated, gorgeous-looking adaptation, but it hurt when the flow of a 2-3 chapter (or sometimes 2-3 page) fight was stretched way too long. but also I could just read the manga instead so maybe who cares

ALSO: they need to make Kenjaku creepier or sillier or both in the CG adaptation. He needs to be enjoying himself more, his 1000-year plan is finally happening and he wants to teach people about it.
