I love this because it makes me think abt how every single album of Taylors comes from the depths of her. She simply can't do it any other way. Because she needs it like a normal person needs a therapist and bc she can't be anybody else besides herself.

Funny enough, the only 2 Taylor albums I feel come out a bit insincere are my 2 least favorites. Reputation because she tried to give off a revenge, payback vibe or of someone extremelly revolted and ready to fight the hate campaign against her.. when in actuality she didn't want to do that. She wasn't that vengeful, really. She was sad with everything, yes. She felt betrayed and deceived. And make no mistake, that period of time was traumatic and probably changed her forever (as trauma usually does).

But she was in love. She didn't quite feel like being revengeful at that time anymore. She didn't want to prove anything to anyone, she just wanted to love (who seemed to be at the time) the love of her life. She felt safe and loved with him, away from all the noise, and she just wanted to express that (is what I feel, at least). And so as a result the album ended up sounding a little bit.. forced.

And then there's Lover. Ironically, I feel like she felt that it was finally the time for her to express all the love she was feeling, how wonderful her relationship was and how happy she was... but maybe things weren't quite perfect as they were, or seemed to be? She went ahead and did it anyway, but it just feels too much.. honeyed? Sugary? I don't know just too lovely, like someone who just fell in love and is still mesmerized by it, blinded to all its problems and potential red flags. But she wasn't.

She wasn't that someone anymore, they'd been together for a minute and probably they had that settled, quiet love by then. And thoughout the album there's a bunch of little, almost inconspicuous yellow flags on the relationship and how she was truly feeling. It makes me anxious, before ttpd it annoyed be a lot and I couldn't quite point out why (and I'm not only talking about lyrics but the production too) and now I think I do.

I guess I didn't want to deal with the possibility that maybe Tay wasn't that happy and so I tried to deny my impressions and now I don't have to anymore... anyways!! Eternal swiftie rambling bc I can do it here!!! Congrats if you read the whole thing lol

“The best bodies of work are when people drill into the most personal, the most if-you-know-you-know kind of stuff. I think the depth of [Tortured Poets Department] was surprising to people because I think people are constantly surprised when artists continue to be artists. You see so many people take the wrong turn and pander and become terrified of what they could lose. That’s the recipe for all the worst music, and I can only relate to people who don’t give a f–k. That next body of work — it doesn’t matter how big your audience is, it either comes from the depths of you or it doesn’t. And I love that album so much because the whole thing is so remarkably vulnerable.”

i agree with this. KEEP THE SYNTHS OFF DEBUT. however; jack also produced dance fever by florence and the machine. amazing album, please listen to it, but the reason i mention this is because!! it is so different!! this album is not a synthy album!! and don’t forget that taylor also produces her songs and she has the final say on what they sound like. not every song that has jack’s name on it is just his production. he has range, and sometimes we forget that because his taylor songs sound so similar. but this man also produced melodrama! and has worked with lana del ray, teagan and sara, carly rae, troye sivan, etc. he uses similar elements in his songs but they are not the same.

*points a banjo at Taylor and Jack*: no synths on Debut

jack antonoff is fascinating to me because in many ways he seems like the silliest least serious man alive but then you look at the music he's written and it's like grief, depression, nostalgia, more grief, anxiety, heartbreak, more depression

Jack has never had a bad take

“Reputation, at this point, is fucking goated. It’s the fucking shit – I just love that album to the fucking moon and back. I remember making that [album] and loving it. I feel like that album was met with some amount of cynicism, then cut to a few years later, it’s like, nope, everyone loves it. Taylor and I do talk about that a lot: You make what you make, because you believe in it, and sometimes you get your flowers right away and sometimes it takes a minute.”

I don't understand why people, mainly Taylor, pretend not to see that Augustine knew about Betty.

I mean, how could she sing "cause it was never mine" if she didn't know that James was hanging out with another girlS in plural?????

It's obvious for me that she knew about Betty. Otherwise, Inez wouldn't have told Betty about what James was doing.

And let's be honest, here EVERYONE knows that James and Betty weren't "serious" mainly because in cardigan Betty says that he was eyeing other girls, that's why she probably talks about sensual politics and the hand under her sweater. It means that James wanted physical contact, and she probably didn't give him what he wanted, so he tried to find it somewhere else.

Mirrorball, of course, is about Betty "You'll find me on my tallest tiptoes

Spinning in my highest heels, love

Shining just for you"

High heels are cited in cardigan, so it makes me think that Betty is talking about the prom night.

Mirrorball also tells us that she breaks in a million pieces, that is she's a cardigan, because when she breaks she can transform herself in whatever she needs to fit in be loved.

She also says that she can show James every version of himself, but you can only show someone all his versions knowing him very well.

My teacher gets three pages of me ranting about Hannibal, Bleachers, and my other silly little interests while still completing everything on the rubric

I have an essay due in two hours and so far all i’ve written about is Hannibal.

"I think I've seen this film before and I didn't like the ending."
"You drew stars, around my scars and now I'm bleedin'."

I've been listening to folklore on repeat since it came out and everytime the album restarts I feel like I'm entering into a mystical world. I cannot rank the song's, but I do have so many favourite lyrics, especially since Taylor mentioned my country in the song 'seven' , it's making me all giddy and smily. But apart from that i have to say this album is a genius lyrical masterpiece. It's for all those who love to listen to stories and tales. It's the best of all and what's more important and great is, it's wholly owned by Taylor. I don't think I'll ever be able to thank Tay enough for putting this album in my lap. You've saved the year girl.. you've brought light in the darkest time. I Love You from the bottom of my heart.❤️
