the cover of st gibson's gothic novella "a dowry of blood". it depicts at the centre a pale, mysterious looking woman in a medieval dark red, elizabethan-style ruffled gown and heavy veil obscuring her face. she is holding a skull. the backdrop resembles a gothic cathedral with a sort of red stain-glass frame, adorned with sinister motifs like blood, daggers, disembodied eyes etc. skeletons prance about at the bottom of the illustration, and a particularly eerie detail is a young maiden dancing with a skeleton. there are two pairs of disembodied hands, one praying with a rosary, and the other stabbing its own palm with a dagger.
