I Promise Guys This Is Short For Me - Tumblr Posts
inspiration + angry women
Hello friends!
As it usually goes, once I have started a project and everything is lined up and planned out (as much as I plan anything) something else swoops in and captures my attention. Do not fret friends, as the thing that has captured my attention is the development of a new character for this very story, but it is not what I was supposed to be working on. This post will be rather short this week, which after the doozy of last week’s I’m sure y’all are very glad of.
I am in a class this semester focusing on the craft behind writing the character archetypes of witches, harpies, and hags and it’s got me thinking about villain characters a lot. Now, by no means do witches, harpies, and hags as archetypes have to be written as villains, but oftentimes they are and I think it says something about our society that knowledgeable women, powerful women, angry women, and older women are discriminately villainized under these archetypes. It’s fascinating to me.
The main villain of my story is going to be a man. I already have been making vague plans for him. But, I wanted to add a female villain because women can be just as powerful and dangerous as men. That's also why a lot of my main cast is made up of women as well. Us ladies know how to get sh*t done and be smart about it when we do. ᕱ__< But the idea of feminine rage, of the angry woman, has always kind of captivated me.
I love a good villain with a backstory. A villain you can’t help but feel sympathetic towards even though they may have committed atrocities because there is a reason they are like this. Someone or something pushed them to their limits and broke them enough that now they want to break the world in return. My main villain is not that type of guy. But if I write another villain then maybe I’ll get to develop her in this type of way.
I was inspired by a girl on my sister’s soccer team actually. She’s kind of a b*tch. A nice to your face, talks behind your back, negative all the time, green with envy b*tch. She’s mean to my sister and so I am not her biggest fan. But as I watched her get pissed off during a game and shove a girl on the opposing team with the biggest scowl on her face, I was *inspired.* All I scribbled down in my notebook was the girl's name along with “harpie archetype, angry woman, red-hot with rage.” (She's a ginger btw.)

^a picture of my notebook btw
I’ve been turning and turning and turning the idea over in my head and doing a little bit of writing on it this past week. I hope I can work her into the story somehow and make her a villain I can be proud of. And, bonus!! If I continue to keep developing this character, she’d be a perfect foil for my best girl Sascha.
Stay inspired my friends! And always remember to dot your j’s and cross your t’s.
