I Abruptly Woke Up In My Sleep With The Sweetest Thought In Mind: What If Kamina And Simon Were Actual

I abruptly woke up in my sleep with the sweetest thought in mind: “What if Kamina and Simon were actual blood brothers???”

Sure, nothing wild, but it surely is a concept worthy of my smile! (and also something I’d been wanting to take out of my system for too long 😂)

If you want to expand on this take, feel free to do so (and don’t forget to tag me! I want to see what you come up with!!!)

Dead Leaves is a charming trip

Dead Leaves Is A Charming Trip

This Ova lives and dies by the phrase "Turn of your brain." Dead Leaves puts on no airs of having a deep story or multi-faceted characters. It's a 52-minute montage of zany off-the-wall animation courtesy of Hiroyuki Imaishi. While Promare was his theatrical debut, Dead Leaves was his first "movie". He also had a lot of creative freedom from being the director, storyboarder, key animator, and animation character designer. The original character designs and screenplay were done by Imaitoon

Dead Leaves Is A Charming Trip

Imaishi's penchant for unbridled action scenes and unconventional art is apparent in every single panel of animation. There's not a moment that remains still for long. Every scene littered either witty dialogue or frantic fighting. Special mention should go to the art direction which highly resembles an underground comic book rather than anime.

Who exactly are Retro and Pandy, the protagonists of this film. They don't know. They have amnesia. All we need to know about them is that they make a good couple and know how to kick ass.

Dead Leaves Is A Charming Trip

This isn't a film that requires deep analysis. If you're the type of person who enjoys constant action and comedy, then Dead Leaves is ideal for you. It also serves as a good footnote in Hiroyuki Imaishi's career. His style has evolved so much over the years and none of the anime he directed following Dead Leaves rival the unconventional style of this film.
