Henry's Whole Idea That A Prewritten Song's Ending Can Be Changed - Tumblr Posts
hi is this the part you meant with someone saying something about a gay ending? i saw this on a video and it sounds like it could be. creelarke shippers say its subtext about henry being gay, what do you think? patty: it's a sad song, i like the gay ones best. henry: it doesn't have to be sad. you never know the ending till it's sung all through. patty: then let's make it a gay one. henry: sing your own ending.
Hi, I'm so sorry this took me a while to respond to. I saw it when I was out a few days ago and then forgot to go back to it! Yeah that sounds very much like the part I was referring to! Thank you for sharing, I'm relieved I wasn't hearing things lol Idk what creelarke is so I can't comment on that, but sure, it could be subtext for henry's sexuality if it's a conversation between him and patty? I'm not about to label him as straight just because he appeared to be in a hetero r'ship in the play, 'cos that would make me a hypocrite with my reading of Mike Wheeler in the show. But the only reason I personally side-eyed the moment myself was because this was essentially what I heard inbetween the lines: "This [story] seems to be a sad one. I like the gay [stories] best." "It might seem sad now, but it's not finished yet." "Then let's make it gay! That's in our control".
I'd love to think it could be a very sneaky Easter Egg to Stranger Things ending as a whole. It could apply to Henry as well, I have no idea - or to nothing, because like I said in my review, the context of the word 'gay' in the moment meant 'happy'. But it's sus to me because it's not really used in that context for today's audience, and the writer's must be aware of how that sounds. And it just seemed like such a deliberate thing to include when we're heading into Season 5, the ending of the show, which we know is going to have a focus on Will, our canon gay character, in his "coming of age" season. A lot of the GA already assume his story is a sad one. But... it hasn't been "sung all through" yet.
I'm glad that other people picked up on those lines, anyway. I guess we'll have to wait and see ♥
