From her dry stone bed, she awoke in a world painfully bright, wet and cold. The smell of the murky water reached her nostrils oh so sensitive to any signs of moisture. Thirst...Madening thirst was all she could feel right now. Her body felt cold, oh so cold, but part of her didn't care, so much the thirst was overtaking.
She could smell and feel a leech near her. It made her mouth water.
Her wings were at the stage they were too growing sacks on her back, growing, needing more and more water.
Dumb leech who thought it would have a tasty meal, now became the tasty meal. Parasite became a meal for one hungry and thursty elf.
The water was filthy...and yet...No amount of water could quench her thirst. Squeemishness ? Oh, that thought vanished for a week now. There were no thoughts, just thirst.
She could hear steps coming, and the gush of warm, nutricious blood, and it sounded much better than . The magnetism it emited, she could feel inside her nose and through her scalp, felt distinctly human. She clenched her jaws in inticipation, like a cat seeing appetizing prey.
She was about to pounce, not remembering how frail she was. Then, the world went senseless and silent.
Warmth and lucidity came back...She couldn't help but feel disgust at the filthy water she drank. The funky taste was still in her mouth, and it made her sick. She was still blind. It didn't worry her. She would regain her sight once her wings pop out...But...Her back. It hurt so much...She could feel her muscles grow and shift, her skin becoming increasingly taught.
What scared her the most is that none of the familiar auras were around. She couldn't feel their bodily magnetism at all. "Mati' ? " she said. Carefully, she undid her braids. Maybe with her hair loose, she would have an easier time detecting them. Her curls loose and brushed, she shifted her head around, but they were nowere to be found. No mati', no pata', no auti' Ghwenn and no lrata' Liti. She felt asleep on her stone bed...Why ?
And around her, she could hear and detect the magnetism and warmth of some strange humans. She was weak, her sanity more fragile then ever, her muscles sore from the rané she ate two days ago and all alone amongst strangers. She wasn't one to cry, but tears nevertheless fell down her cheeks. She didn't ever know where she was.
"La neêrmo ?" she asked (Where am I ?)
She could smell the fat of some unknown animal, maybe a pig, some good quality fertilizer, a vegetal, floral scent and an utter lack of mushrooms nor edible arthropodes.
The room was thick with magical magnetism, almost overwelming. She could hear voices talking, and from the tone of it, it sounded like they tried to discuss what to do with her. She hugged her knees. She couldn't figure out a word they said...Some of the newly arrived humans in her world spoke a similar sounding language.
How one did say: "La neêrmo ?" in English ?
What she knew was that she was far away from her family...Even her older sisters and brothers, they weren't yet to be found. Why was she surrounded by those strange humans ? She could try to talk to them...
Her throat was still parched, and it would soon cloud her mind, as well as her stomach felt empty.
She could feel a hand outstretched to her, with it's warmth and magnetism. She reached it, out of desperation. The smell of fresh water once again hit her nostils. It smelled clean.
"Geki !" (Thank you !)
Her fingers closed on the glass jar, and it was let go by the human woman. The second it hit her tongue, the water felt like heaven. She drank it all in one gult, the pleasure clearing out all fear, all rational thought. She knew she must seem so rude, but it didn't matter at this point, especially as groans especaped from her throat begging for more. But it wasn't enough, and soon she found herself licking each drop she could have possibly left behind. There was no pleasure, only thirst and appetite wanting to be indulged some more so that the unbearable dryness in her throat could be soothed.
For a moment, the emotion in the room felt tense, the auras more worried. Yet, the warm liquid inside their bodies seemed increasingly tempting as her stomach growled and her throat felt dry. Her mind became cloudy once again from hunger and thirst.
No more emotions, only thirst and hunger. Unbearable, maddening. Death meant nothing...Only water.
Then...Some more liquid was poured down her throat. Not that she protested, but it made her sleepy...Oh so sleepy, and so she closed her blind eyes and fell into a deep slumber.
She awoke to another strange place, this time with the smell of human food. There was the pleasant smell of fish. A plate wash pushed forward to her.
"Geki"...
She carefully broke appart a piece of the fish. It was similar in flavor to the blindfish she ate from time to time, but not quite. It tasted a bit different, with a saltiness that made her instantly disgusted. Salted foods were taboo to eat, and it could have easily done without the fried crust. The rest of the dish was composed of tubers, which she couldn't digest.
Somebody was nice enough to feed her, and yet, she couldn't bring herself to eat more. Salt was not supposed to be eaten, but kept preciously to feed the rané. She wasn't desperate enough to break the taboo that much.
She could now feel a human presence, in the room, in her head. The magical magnetism felt stronger and stronger, and the forks nearby didn't help with her headache...
"So, if I understand well, were you are from, salt is taboo to eat." she could hear, but not understand, an old, deep voice say.
@coentinim you gave me this idea that now lives in my head.
