I love how Good Omens confession/divorce is causing all the other traumatised gay ships that confessed/divorced to trend too. We are one powerful hive brain.
Is it too soon to talk about the fact that Nina and Maggie are a metaphor for Crowley and Aziraphale, but NOT in the way they led us to believe throughout S2?
Nina is the tough one, the one that doesn't trust anybody and she's just like Crowley. Maggie is the sweet and kind lady that is just like Aziraphale.
But Nina is stuck in a toxic relationship where the partner exists only in the form of omnipresent cruel texts, gaslight and accusations. She knows that the one she loves doesn't love her back as much, but she justifies every cruelty because she's the "complicated one" and they need only a little bit more time to fix things. She's doing nothing wrong, some things were completely out of her control, and yet she was the one to blame. She's hurt, a victim and yet she doesn't leave her distant cruel partner for Maggie, that is clearly and painfully in love with her. In the end, when she's dumped via text, she understands that she'll need to redefine herself as a person before going back to Maggie (hoping to find her still waiting, because she took so long).
Maggie struggles to pay rent, is extremely lonely and constantly hiding in her empty record shop because she's at her lowest point. She's fallen in love with Nina a long time ago but always watched her from afar. Nina couldn't be interested in such a wreck, she already has a partner and at a certain point she even stated she'll rather stay in her current toxic relationship instead of starting a new one with her! But Maggie also changed during S2, understanding her self-worth and letting herself be free of her fears and insecurities. She'll also wait as long as necessary for Nina to figure out what she needs.
The Nina/Maggie duo is not a metaphor of Crowley/Aziraphale in S2.
The moment you start thinking of Nina as Aziraphale and Maggie as Crowley you realise they're foreshadowing of S3.
okay so if an angel confesses he gets sent to superhell and if he gets confessed to, he gets sent to superheaven. how do we get an angel sent to superpurgatory?
this is so interesting, I was still thinking about him being the archangel Raphael but this would be so much crazier i love it
it's zero comfort but at least we can be reasonably sure crowley was formerly the archangel Lucifer, with all the references to "morningstars singing" (Lucifer Morningstar), the "we already had one fallen prince of heaven" line, him knowing the Metatron, him saying "let there be light" (Lucifer is the "light bringer") , his high level clearance access in heaven, his reference to being part of the "design " process with god, the weird respect the archangels give him in heaven, the miracle so powerful only an archangel could perform, the Heavy visual implication in the first scene that his questions specifically caused the fall, his suggestion to Shax that he could have done the archangel miracle, in the first scene when he literally says he's gonna tell god she's doing a shit job, his insistence to other demons that he doesnt remember them from the War (I doubt anyone is happy with Lucifer, I think he hides his former identity) and most importantly why he's So Fucking Different from literally every other angel and demon.
kissing without consent is NOT cool, kids ‼️‼️❌
stay in school, don't do drugs, don't let armageddon happen and ask consent ✨

the formula of love
Good Omens fans after the season 2 finale going to see Heartstopper.

So my brother is a witch I think??
Spoilers below the cut, apologies for last post (I swear I’ve got it this time)
Ok, so to explain, there’s something that’s happened to my brother 3 times now, all around Good Omens S2- the First thing he ever said being “Yeah we’re never getting a second season for Good Omens. There’s no more book, so there’s nothing there”. This was before the release date was announced, and we both genuinely had no clue that Neil had already been talking about/releasing information about S2 beforehand. Still, we both found out just a few days after this was said, much to our delights (and my smugness).
A few weeks later, we’re in a bit of a fever discussing ideas of what’s going to happen this season. It was mid-June (you might be able to see where I’m going with this) and we didn’t have a lot of material to go off of yet, so it was a lot of hypotheticals. Then my brother gets into his Ineffable Husbands rant, and while we both agreed on getting ‘something’ from this season (based on Neil’s ‘quiet, gentle, and romantic’ comments), my brother was VERY insistent on “We’re probably not getting anything very like- explicit. Like probably not even a kiss or anything.”
Not even 10 minutes later— news article from Google while searching for Good Omens content: it’s about EVERY and includes a link to a tweet of the image. I proceed to grow a shit-eating grin as I look my brother in the eyes and say “Hey, guess what?”
So that’s the Second instance.
Finally, today had been slow for new content and we were in another tangent. Something about the Muriel image we got today got me thinking back to Neil’s mention of the beginning of the show. I debated with my brother, and eventually he winded up saying basically, “We know we’re not getting anything about like- angel Crowley though (not referring to his hysterically terrible disguise), like I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere Neil said he never thought about it.”
It’s not even evening yet, and I’m still reeling over that article with Michael Sheen just outright telling us that not only will we get a NEW first interaction between Aziraphale and Crowley, but it’s all PRE-FALL. So, yes, I once again got to stare smugly at my brother while he seethed over being wrong (or maybe right?) once again.
Therefore, I have Three Times on record that my brother said something he was so stubbornly sure would NOT happen, all related to Good Omens, and each time he was both proven wrong almost immediately, and proven to possibly be an anti-witch of prophecy. A reverse prophet? Idfk what to call it, but I’m starting to question how this keeps happening. Please, to those willing to read this, I want to know if you have any suggestions for my brother. Because if I show him this, he might see what you said and think “Oh well that definitely won’t happen” much to our delights. Or maybe horrors. We’ll see.
coffee theory this coffee theory that what if aziraphale is being manipulated by the metatron because he says that he misjudged his character but the metatron is still acting strange and very suspicious and still kinda arseholely, one thing that he says to aziraphale is that crowley can become an angel again if he wants to, and this is something that aziraphale is so hung up over the ideas of good and evil, more than anything he wants to be good and he wants crowley to be good because he loves him, part of his perception of goodness involves being an angel because for all his existence he has been told to believe that heaven is good and hell is evil the angels are supposed to be good despite the constant evidence that they aren't good (they were okay with killing all the people in the flood, they were okay with destroying all of Job's stuff including his kids!!!!!! and the most troubling is probably being okay with everyone on earth dying) they are not good entities but aziraphale still believes that they are!!!
the metatron manipulates aziraphale's love for crowley and his want for goodness so that he can have someone to be the new archangel to lead the second coming, he is pulling on his strings in order to get what he wants by using crowley as a bait of sorts to trap him into saying yes so he can have a stable person to lead
crowley has broken free of these ideas and accepted the grey area and decided that he doesn't think that heaven or hell are doing something right, they fell because they questioned god and it was easy to see that hell were doing the wrong thing because they very openly said "yes we're the bad guys" and that is easy to recognise, crowley thought that when aziraphale defied heaven and stopped armageddon that he was choosing their own side that they were on the same page, but aziraphale believes in this facade of angelic goodness so he chooses them
all of this time aziraphale hasn't really questioned heaven's morality sure he's questioned his own ideas of good and evil (clearly demonstrated with the whole body snatching shenanigans) aziraphale hasn't questioned if he should be doing what heaven says unlike gabriel, unlike crowley, he is so convinced that they are good his is blinded by he love for heaven that he rejects crowley despite clearly feeling the same way
idk i still think that coffee theory has a strong argument and its totally cool if you agree with it i think that it is a neat idea :)
Alright, not to be too predictable, but I wanna talk about space and color as it's used in the intro to season 1 for a minute. And you know, show some gorgeous space shots.
So we open in the dark. There's distant lights and the occasional flare from them moving through space but for the most part we get the angel that would eventually become Crowley alone in enough darkness that he himself isn't even giving off particularly significant amounts of light.

But then, enter Aziraphale. He arrives in a big ball of blue light shining above him that really emphasizes Crowley's red hair. They get tied to the colors we most often see them attached to, especially in promotional materials.

From here the entire scene gets slightly brighter, even once Aziraphale's light dims down. They're both lit up once they're together, even it the middle of literal nothingness.

They start the universe next, using Crowley's hand crank, which gives off a magic that's a combination of their two colors - purple.

A very similar color to this shows up in heaven as a signal flare for their accidentally too powerful half a miracle. It's a color tied to a miracle so big it could've revived someone 25 times and also a miracle that got the engine of the universe running.

And then. Creation starts. Our first image is a very Heavenly aesthetic. It's a blueish light cutting through the clouds much like Az just cut through the dark.

And what explodes from that is the thing that set me down this little rabbit hole in the first place: it's purple scattered through with red and blue lights.

As the initial burst fades, the blue and the red separate, the color fading except for this tiny blue dot and this growing red zone on the right.

The blue then fades, leaving us with an extremely Crowley coded palette here and a very orangeish red. There's shades of gray, a little bit of light, but not nearly as much color. As the sequence moves the darkness grows but does start slowly filling with small points of light.

We then end up with shades of gray both light and dark. There's balance here, even if it's not particularly colorful.

And then all at once a pinkish red bursts forth with these intense clawing tendrils. At the core of it, from the heart of it, is a bright blue ball of light.

It fades into a blue heart surrounded by darkness with whisps of white resembling a certain someone's hair. Or, as some friends pointed out two people embracing.

As the nebula settles a few other colors set in but the primary scheme is still red and blue. An almost violent plume of red emerges on the left side of the image.

And from this moment on most shots of the two of them back them with their respective color schemes.

They chat and Aziraphale gets anxious. He looks for a distraction and is immediately drawn to the space where the colors mix.

And as we fade out the other colors in the picture fade. We get the most balanced blue and red uet. And on the far corners fairly clear dark and light.

So what does this mean? The purple speaks to them being very powerful together. And, the rest is arguably just representative of the plot. We have Aziraphale as a beacon in the dark - a signal flare we know Crowley has throughout history been aware of and drawn to. We have them brightening each other. We have Az's color breaking out of heaven to mix with Crowley's to create something new and wonderful and powerful. Aziraphale's color fades, leaving Crowley alone. We then get a burst of a red closer to Crowley's current hair, with Aziraphale's blue in the core of it that eventually becomes a blue heart surrounded by darkness. That too fades, replaced by the pillars becoming their familiar hand shape and slightly more colors seeping in. As they talk together and move closer together their own colors settle back in and come to balance.
Can’t stop thinking about how all of S2, Aziraphale is throwing himself at Crowley physically (the hand on his chest in the bar, the dance, the hand on his shoulder when Gabe and Beez say being together is more important than sides) waiting for Crowley to make the next move, while Crowley is throwing himself at Aziraphale emotionally (trying to make the humans fall in love by engineering a rainstorm, letting Aziraphale drive his car, recommending Alpha Centauri as a place for Gabe and Beez to go). And how in the final 15, they finally get closer to giving the other what they have been asking for all season, but it’s twisted and miscommunicated: “come with me” Aziraphale says and all Crowley hears is “to heaven”; “I need you” Aziraphale says, and all Crowley hears is “to change for me”; Crowley grabs Aziraphale and kisses him the way Aziraphale has wanted all season and Aziraphale, thinking it’s a temptation away from Heaven, forgives him instead of kissing him back.
y’all season 2 of good omens was like having a nice relaxing bubble bath with scented candles and bath bombs and shit and you’re just enjoying it so euphorically that it leaves you super vulnerable for when someone throws A FUCKIN TOASTER IN
Aziraphale is Nina
So we all know that Nina and Maggie’s relationship is a parallel of Crawley and Aziraphale. In the show Nina compared herself to Crowley, “the hard bitten one who can’t trust anyone,” and Maggie to Aziraphale “Still believes in love and magic and all that”. However, I think that she has got it wrong. They are a parallel, but without knowing the details of their lives she hasn’t realized that she is actually much closer to Aziraphale.
Both Aziraphale and Nina have toxic exes. Aziraphale has Heaven and Nina has Lindsey. By the end of season 2, neither Nina or Aziraphale realize that their ex was toxic. I would even go so far as to say that if Lindsay came back like Megatron did for Aziraphale, Nina might end up going back to her as well. And Nina says perfectly what Aziraphale has been consistently saying and showing, even if we don’t like it. He is not ready. Crowley moves too fast for him. He has not dealt with how Heaven abuses him. His doesn’t know who he is with out Heaven. Just like Nina, Azriaphale hopes that, when he is ready, Crowley will be there for him, but there is no guarantee.
Crowley, on the other hand, is like Maggie. He’s dealt with what he needs to deal with, and he knows what he wants - love, an eternity with Aziraphale. He’s smitten, and, also like Maggie. He does have the element of being the romantic day dreamer. He’s carefree in a way that Aziraphale has never learned how to be. Just like Maggie, who will happily wait for Nina, Crowley will wait for Aziraphale.
Both couples will have their opportunity together. Crowley and Aziraphale are ineffable after all, but, Aziraphale needs this time to catch up. He loves Crowley, we all know that. But, he also needs to learn to love himself, and decide who he is and what he wants outside of the realms of Heaven.
