As a lunch lady who's attended wayyy too many nutrition meetings:
Yes any fruit is better than no fruit. And "better" is all relative.
Some fruits are more nutritious when frozen rather than fresh! (Frozen fruit are usually picked at peak season, fresh fruit aren't always at their best.)
Having a smoothie is much better than juice! Whole fruits you chuck into smoothies have valuable fiber! Juice usually strains out the good bit.
Smoothies are wonderfully flexible. You can make them with ice, or you can add frozen yogurt, or even regular yogurt for all the good that does. If dairy's not your thing, milk alternatives are great too!
Smoothie suggestions:
My partner makes hers with a frozen tropical fruit mix, plus almond milk. Tastes like a mini vacation.
I like to add protein powder to mine! I struggle getting enough protein as is, so the extra boost is good.
The smoothies we make at school are very simple! We blend yogurt, milk, and whatever fruit we have on hand until it's smooth. We've once made smoothies with yogurt, apple sauce and orange juice. (The orange juice was great for flavor, the applesauce was awful for texture)
I've had friends blend some of the better tasting meds and vitamins into their smoothies.
Honey is a good sweetener if you like it!
I like buying a big bunch of bananas so I can eat them normally when they're my preferred ripeness and use the overly brown ones as smoothie fodder.
Nutrition programs will say it thousands of times over: Eat a variety of color! Each fruit has different nutrients, all equally important. Eating a variety is the best way to make sure you're not missing anything.
a 2 act tragedy starring me: i’ve been making fruit smoothies in the morning for a few days which has been great because it’s getting me to actually eat fruit for once, only to go on the internet and be told that it apparently releases all the natural sugars so it's actually Not that great for you and i am devastated
