Finally Did It - Tumblr Posts

Y’all, I have finally done it
I have conquered my lazy ass for this moment
Mary let out a breath of relief at that, thrilled to have the opportunity to escape Askr, and learn alchemy from a real alchemist. It was something you could only dream of where she comes from. So far, Ed was turning out to be the only bright spot in this disaster. Mary had the utmost faith that Ed could teach her, and find a way to stop the Askrans and get them out of Zenith.
“The Spring Festival? Oh, it doesn’t effect us. The prince is more likely to ask me to stay put to...help you ‘settle in’ instead of going to it. Really, all it actually is, is some silly fighting tournament where you have to dress up like rabbits and fight with themed prop weapons,” she explained, rolling her eyes. “Basically every holiday here involves some fighting tournament or another, only difference is in the theme,” Mary continued, pondering Ed’s other question. “...alas, probably not. Especially if you try faking any skills you don’t have. Prince Alfonse specializes in swordplay, so he’d be able to see right through you. The best we can do to hide what we’re really up to is to...well...play along. The more they think you’re willing to help with the issue of Embla, the less likely they’ll think we’re up to something. As for just sending you back if you’re useless, still unlikely. They don’t make a habit of sending anyone home, no matter how apparently useless they are. The Order just...finds a way to make them more useful. I’ve seen it, they usually just send those folks off to training, and the last thing we need is them sending you away to train right now,” the summoner explained. “But...we’ll talk about that more in the morning, Ed. You really should clean up and get some rest, you’re gonna need it.”

Thought so, bingo. Mary nodded excitedly, beaming with joy. Ed actuallybelieved she was capable of actually learning to use this wonderful science he could do, he thought she could help.
“Oh yes, absolutely! I will! Whatever it takes..and…if I don’t get something… you’ll help me figure it out?” She asked, nodding again. He could take whatever he needed, it was all fine with her.
“Of course, keep them as long as you need to. Come back tomorrow, everyone’s going to be at the Spring Festival, so we should have plenty of time to study uninterrupted,” she told him, giving him her first real smile in months.
“Gnight, Ed…and…thank you…”
“Yeah, I’ll help you.” He wasn’t surprised to see her enthusiasm. Without only having been there for a day, he was ready to find a way home, and if she’d been there for months she was sure to be more motivated than he was. Although he hadn’t done much of any alchemy teaching, he was more than willing to give it his best shot. It couldn’t be that hard, right? Surely they’d run into a lot of questions that he’d have to find an answer to, one of the most obvious being about his ability to transmute without a circle.
“Night… Uh… Before I go,” he started, “Thanks for your help… This Spring Festival think, what does that mean for us? Anything?” he asked, “And… the alchemy. Is it worth hiding from them? If we find a way out of here it might help if we could do it without them knowing, right? Unless they somehow already know…” He chuckled, “I could swing a sword around and pretend I know what I’m doing. Hell, maybe they’d even send me home for that…”
name: scribble
characteristics: cracked wooden goat mask from the *Passage of Reliance* without blue highlights, hair fluffs over the top, dirtied long sleeves and pants, scarf cape (pre-character arc); ghost manta cape (post-character arc)
background: passed the trial of reliance as a child and was awarded with their mask, but is single-handedly the cause for why the golden wasteland is the way it is. was supposed to be on lookout for the battle, protecting the vault's entrance, but got distracted scratching space mantas in the sand, causing almost all the soldiers but him to die as dark creatures stormed the area. does not go back to the wasteland, never leaves the vault. the oldest scribble ever got to was just after the incident.
personality: obsessed with forgiveness, so tosses himself into Eden obsessively, like it's some sort of ritual. loner, prefers the spirit mantas to moths, spends a lot of time with them. the elders absolutely hate him - they cracked the mask after hearing the news of what he did. carries his mask as a reminder. the spirit mantas are a representation of his guilt and his desire. he thinks someday eden might rebirth him as a space manta... and then everything will be okay.
when he enters eden, he doesn't even try to save the petrified moths, he just sits at the end and waits for darkness to bombard him. that's why his actions are questionable - he's taken something good and made it selfish. it's not that he doesn't want to save them, he's just not even considering it as an option. everything floods back when he goes to Eden, everything he regrets. he doesn't think rationally.
similar to ocd mari, he continues to do selfish and immoral things because of his guilt, twisting the truth of Eden for his own atonement. perhaps he doesn't recognise his own immorality. ocd-fic mari took the selfless desire to protect her brother and made it into a selfish controlling compulsion. scribble takes the selfless act of sacrificing oneself to Eden, but turns it into a selfish desire for redemption.
