Zoomer here, and I do indeed have questions about computers- how do filesystems work, and why should we care (I know we should, but I'm not exactly sure why)?
So why should we care?
You need to know where your own files are.
I've got a file on a flash drive that's been handed to me, or an archival data CD/DVD/Bluray, or maybe it's a big heavy USB external hard drive and I need to make a copy of it on my local machine.
Do I know how to navigate to that portable media device within a file browser?
Where will I put that data on my permanent media (e.i. my laptop's hard drive)?
How will I be able to reliably find it again?
We'll cover more of the Why and How, but this will take some time, and a few addendum posts because I'm actively hitting the character limit and I've rewritten this like 3 times.
Let's start with file structure
Files live on drives: big heavy spinning rust hard drives, solid state m.2 drives, USB flash drives, network drives, etc. Think of a drive like a filing cabinet in an office.
You open the drawer, it's full of folders. Maybe some folders have other folders inside of them. The folders have a little tab with a name on it showing what's supposed to be in them. You look inside the folders, there are files. Pieces of paper. Documents you wrote. Photographs. Copies of pages from a book. Maybe even the instruction booklet that came with your dishwasher.
We have all of that here, but virtualized! Here's a helpful tree structure that Windows provides to navigate through all of that. In the case of Windows, it's called Explorer. On OSX MacOS, the equivalent is called Finder.

I don't have to know where exactly everything is, but I have a good idea where thing *should* based on how I organize them. Even things that don't always expose the file structure to you have one (like my cellphone on the right). I regularly manually copy my files off of my cellphone by going to the Camera folder so I can sift through them on a much bigger screen and find the best ones to share. There are other reasons I prefer to do it that way, but we won't go into that here. Some people prefer to drag and drop, but that doesn't always work the same between operating systems. I prefer cut and paste.
Standby for Part 2!
OC name: Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde
Age: 25.
Birthday: October 16.
Ability: Perfect Portrait — allows him to alter his appearance with basis on what he sketches, also allows him to use minor illusions.
Affiliations: Order of the Clock Tower, Decay of Angels + Rats in the House of The Dead.
Lore: Working for the Order of the Clock Tower, Oscar is well known for being a rather elusive figure, not much is known about the man’s personality and while he seems to be a friend to all, his charisma hides his rather secretive nature, he facilitates dealings between the Order and Dostoevsky, whom he considers a friend.
Personality: He seems to be purely a hedonist without a care in the world and a smooth talker with a charismatic presence, he can come across as a flirt, or as fickle, due to that.
He is a rather intoxicating person to be around, being pleasant and well-mannered despite his theatrical and dramatic side, but he is significantly more perceptive and observant than he seems.
He is actually more intelligent than he might be given credit for, despite seemingly his absent-minded behavior and laissez-faire attitude to life, he enjoys discussing with people and seeking intellectual stimulation first. But his emotional intelligence and his knack for knowing what people need is not to be underestimated.
Some Oscar HCs.

He was initiated into the Order rather young (think 15-16) ; he didn't fully understand what he was getting into and a part of him felt like he wasn't ready for what he would go through, not that he'd ever assume it.
He shadowed under a senior member of the Order who he doesn't hold many good feelings for after all these years.
He is a polyglot, mainly speaking English and French. He uses his knowledge in languages to facilitate dealings with other groups for the Order.
Partly deaf in one of his ears due to an injury during a mission while younger.
He has two cats — Dorian and Sybil. They are mostly under the care of his house staff though, but he is always happy to see them and cuddle after a mission.
Oscar has his quieter moments, even if you wouldn't expect it.
He smokes when he is stressed out and tense enough, you wouldn't guess a man like him would do something like this but oh well.
He met Fyodor due to the Order, he worked out a deal between them and they kept in contact since.
He is somewhat friends with Agatha, being both initiated around the same time though they aren't particularly close.
He probably has a collection of vintage wines.
Not a lot of people know if his name is even actually Oscar, considering he disguises himself so often and uses other identities.
He probably had fencing classes growing up.

First meeting between Oscar and Fyodor
Well part 1 at least. It will definitely take me a while to come up with what will go on in the meeting lol.

The office room was quiet. Oscar could certainly appreciate the time alone to gather his thoughts. He sat down, awaiting the possible “ally” Agatha had asked him to handle and negotiate with.
The golden haired man had always hated his job — yet he kept his typical graceful posture, his back perfectly straight, rehearsing the lines he'd say and practicing in his head how the interaction would go.
It could be considered an art — Oscar overthought, and panicked so easily yet he made everything seem so flawless, so perfectly easy despite the fact it was anything but for him.
The man sighed softly, before leaning back on his chair.
He already was dreading how it'd go.
A soft breath left his lips, he shouldn't worry so much, right..? He had done it time and time again. If anyone could write a book on how to sell a deal it would be him.
He was far too restless to keep himself sitting down.
His freckled fingers brushed against the office window’s curtains, almost hesitantly pushing them open.
He glanced out at the garden, noting the manner the setting sun's golden hues cast the red roses in an almost crimson shade, the shadows more enunciated in the lighting.
He had to admit, Agatha had remodeled the headquarters to seem more pleasant.
Not that it mattered much to him, anyways.
It was like being trapped into a golden cage — the cage itself might have beautiful, yet it didn't change the fact that it was one nonetheless.
“I hope I am not disturbing you,Mr…?” a voice rang out, his gaze slowly drifted, before finding the origin — a man that stood by his office’s doorway.
The first thing he could make out about the man was the fact he seemed sick, almost enough that it made Oscar worry a little about him. His complexion was pale, far too pale and it was further exacerbated by the manner he had deep dark circles beneath his eyes.
...And the second thing he noticed was that the man was almost ethereal in his looks, he looked like he had walked out of a painting, despite how exhausted he seemed to be. There almost had an air of elegance and gracefulness to him, he was utterly hauntingly beautiful.
Hells, he wished that she had warned him the man he was dealing with was that stupidly good looking.
He noticed he had been staring at him almost like he was a deer in headlights, he quietly cursed himself mentally – he couldn't make a fool of himself.
His footsteps were light and quiet, before he sat himself down in his chair, before he glanced up at the man in front of him, a mixture of embarrassment at himself for being so stunned bubbling up inside his thoughts.
“Wilde. And I assume you are Mr. Dostoevsky?”
“Correct.”

Some Oscar HCs part..two!

Oscar has a massive sweet tooth — in particular, angel's food cake is one of his favorite indulgences.
He was orphaned rather young. Doesn't have many memories of his parents, despite wishing he did know more about them.
Oscar is rather shy and melancholic behind all his playful banter and easy going behavior, he does have a very sensitive and fragile side to him despite how desperately he hides it.
He does have a bit of an Irish accent when actually speaking casually. He learned to mask it to feel more at ease in the Order, though it does come out at times in the manner he pronounces certain things. (If you are curious for how I picture his accent — look up interviews from Hozier, I do feel like his accent would be similar.)
He does have 3 fake identities for his missions and work that he uses, all provided for his safety during them.
He is actually very good with children, he'd 100% be the type of person to get on the floor and play with them and probably also would teach them to draw with crayons.
He is actually rather insecure even though he may seem so confident. He is insecure about his appearance, his skills and the list goes on. He takes a “fake it til you make it” type of approach to it though.
He has a diary where he takes note of things he learned about other people and keeps track of things they mentioned to him in conversation, it is part of what makes him so good with building a superficial bond with people.
He is such a hopeless romantic. This man is so starved for genuine affection it isn't even funny, just be nice and attentive to him that he will swoon.
He actually was a very shy and bookish child and his wit while younger was more gentle, he was also a great student.

“An gilded cage”
Content warning: implications of manipulative behavior from an adult towards a teenager, though the implication is very light in the mini-story, I do not wish to end up triggering anyone so please be aware of that before reading.

The dull, numb sting of pain continued to hammer in his body. Even though he had returned from his last mission a few weeks ago, it continued.
He pushed the mahogany door open slowly, revealing the office room and the figure that sat at the desk.
“Lord Byron.” Oscar addressed the man, he quietly knelt before the man, he gave a quiet wave of his hand, allowing him to raise himself.
“Come here, dear.” Byron urged him forward, smiling without a single care of the world —yet Oscar felt almost burdened with it. Each footstep felt longer and longer than before.
Once he stood before the man, Byron let out a soft hum, studying his expression silently. He noticed the small, almost angelic boy’s bandaged injuries and the somber expression on his young face.
“How was your mission?” Byron broke the silence, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear.
“It was alright. Thank you for sending me on it, my lord.” he lied through his teeth, smiling brightly as always.
Byron almost seemed pleased at his words, starting to stroke his hair softly and slowly, almost as if petting a wounded little animal, his fingers glided through his hair so tenderly Oscar could have nearly sensed some kind of paternal affection in the action.
He let out a breath before continuing, which caused Byron to stop threading his fingers through the golden hair: “...Would you mind telling me why you didn't call me for this mission?”
That gesture again felt almost paternal.
The man quietly got up, before placing his hand on the boy’s shoulder, gently squeezing it — almost to reassure him.
“You know, Oscar every single person has a use.” he started, his gaze centered on him, his hands entwined behind his back. “...You will be of no use currently in the state you are in and you know that.”
“...Right. Still, I wish you had let me know. ”
“I have great plans for you, you know that. yet you still question me.” Byron seemed almost amused before playing with the golden hair once more, gently threading the wavy strands once more. “You are so stubborn it is almost amusing, dear.”
“I don't like not being properly informed..”
“It is my job to worry, not yours.” the man stated plainly, glancing at the teenager again. “..Now, would you mind going to your room? You look like you need your rest.”
“I did rest,” he muttered, a pout escaping him even though he attempted to hide it. “It’s all I've been doing for the last few days. You know that very well.”
“Hm. That is true” Byron let out a chuckle, almost as if amused by his annoyance. He quietly pulled him into a hug, the squeeze of his arms around him nearly felt comforting, and Oscar could feel himself relax into the touch, allowing Byron to continue stroking his hair as he held him against his chest. “...You know this is because I love you, don't you?”
“..I do.” Oscar almost felt guilt start building up, his green eyes moved from the ground up to meet his.
Despite his words a few moments ago, his eyes were cold.
“Good. Now, would you be a dear and let me focus? I have a meeting soon.” Byron commented, before smiling as Oscar nodded.
The silence filled the room, almost comfortable as Oscar started to retire himself from the room.
“Ah, and Oscar?” he called out his attention, once he noticed the eyes on him, he continued, his smile having faded long ago: “Don’t question me again. You are a smart boy, aren't you? You should know better.”
“...Alright.”

Memo...
Seeking entertainment; Oscar follows Fyodor, Dazai and Tatsuhiko in their stroll. The hedonist's true thoughts seem to be hidden behind a mask of boredom and detachment despite watching the leaves with slight fascination as they fall.

Homescreen...
“Ah; a stroll. it will be a delightful idea, maybe we will find something to do or walk in somewhere that will be interesting; hm? ”
“ They are a beautiful color; so rich... drying and pressing them would be a good idea. It will preserve their beauty.. ”
“ I can't imagine how beautiful the cherry blossoms must be when it is their season, maybe it will be just as ethereal. ”

OOC // I just felt like doing this for fun 😭 his skills will take a while to develop though.
Oscar HCs part...three!

— Oscar and Agatha met when they were teenagers ; they met while they were being trained to join the Order which led to them having a mixture of fondness and friendly competition against each other. They sometimes also meet for tea when not so busy to chat.
— Oscar is extremely claustrophobic due to certain punishments by Byron while he was a teenager, he also doesn't handle being in dark places well either for that reason.
— I mentioned Oscar covers up a lot here ; I can see him also really not liking going to the beach due to that. He is the type who would spend the entire time sipping some drink and stay in the shadows n fully covered up.
— Oscar is somewhat fluent in japanese ; though it would sound rather business-like when he is speaking and can sound extremely formal too.
— He was recruited by Byron after he met him in an social event he was invited to, Byron immediately took an interest in him due to his ability and thinking it would be extremely useful for information gathering.
— Oscar definitely has insane pain tolerance. He went through some stuff, to put it mildly.
— He can't stand to listen to most modern music. He probably has playlists filled with songs from the 1900s and also classical music.
— As he is essentially both a handler and an informant, he has a code to send the Order if he is ever in danger.
— Extremely skittish and easily startled, he is also constantly vigilant too even if he may seem so relaxed.
— He wears gloves to cover up scars on his hands from another injury during a mission. He'd be embarrassed of them.
— He rarely feels fully comfortable around people despite how charming he can be, you wouldn't ever know it though.
— Nobody knows his birthday; you might know it is in October but good luck figuring out the date because he won't tell you and you'd probably find out by accident but he'd remember everyone's birthdays.
— The only thing he has from his mom is an opal brooch she left him — he keeps it in his jewelry box.
— Constantly travels around; he rarely is home so his staff lives in his house and watches over it though, a lot of the house staff are from the time his parents were alive so they are familiar with him and are used to his behavior.
— Oscar has very neat handwriting and while he wouldn't mind a regular pen or pencil, he would prefer a fountain pen.
