hello, this is me coping😔 after finishing tpw a few days ago, i haven't been fine ever since so yeah hhh
having feels over this
i mourn the history that left with Rin’s last breath.
— no one will remember her as the girl who passed the Keju with only two years of studying under her belt
— no one will remember her as the girl who punched the Dragon Warlords son or the girl who defeated the Dragon Warlords son in the trials and won
— no one will remember her as the girl crazy enough to pledge to lore
— no one will remember her as the girl who had to endure torture in a Mugenese lab
— no one will remember her as the girl who gave the “broken” girl the chance to fight again
— no one will remember her as the girl who destroyed and saved her best friend
— no one will remember her as the girl who had to fight her whole life till the very end. all they’ll remember is a girl on fire, with so much rage, that it almost destroyed the country.

they're unhealthily co dependant. they're enemies. they're lovers. they're best friends. they're each other's everything. they hate each other. they love each other. they want to kill each other. they wouldn't survive without each other. they're each other's fucking undoing. they've been doomed by the narrative right from the very start, they were destined to break apart, they never had any future together, they were always stolen moments. and yet they loved each other, even if it was just a cruel dream, or maybe a seductive nightmare- for a split second, they loved each other and that didn't change anything that didn't change their stories that didn't save them from being doomed but the love was there. it would always be there. it didn't change anything, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. i didn't say their names but they popped in your head didn't they.
her writing destroys me
rf kuang has this ability to write friendships in a way that is so relatable, so beautiful in the mundane, yet still so profound, heartwarming, and life changing
thinking about how venka’s last words were “rin get down!” and kitay’s last words were “you’re hurting me.” and rin’s last words were “fix this.”
God, thinking about how Venka possibly WASN’T the leak, or maybe she was, but she still loved Rin and wanted to protect her from that crossbow bolt anyway despite divided loyalties. I think she might actually have been on Nezha’s side because I was incredibly suspicious of Xuzhou and I swore they were going to get their asses fucking handed to them on a silver Yin family platter. I’d been suspicious of her for sure! But the whole point is we won’t ever truly know because she died trying to protect Rin. Was she loyal? Was she disloyal but still loved Rin? What did loyalty mean to Sring Venka? Was she being loyal in her own way, in not wanting Rin to have victory because she knew she’d lose it? Was she trying to protect her all along like she did in her last moments?

In The Poppy War Rin said “I don’t love you and I can kill anything.”
Then in The Burning God, Altan’s ghost asks “How many more chances are you going to let go?” and Rin responds with “At least one more.”
She is given multiple chances to kill Nezha, but each time she fails to because she just can’t bring herself to. She loves him, she hates him. It’s never a balance, one outweighs the other on different occasions.

Isn't it funny? How none of them ever stood a chance? Isn't it hilarious? How none of it could've been prevented? Isn't it comical? How it was all so much bigger than themselves? Isn't it just hysterical? How it was always gonna end like this?

I just, I can't stop thinking about how hard the Speerlies tried to defend their island, to protect themselves because they know no one else would do it for them. And it wasn't enough. An entire culture died that day. They died for a nation that never thought about them as their equal. To Nikan, the Speerlies were just beasts they can use to fight they wars.
