Oh my goodness, YES. Ships and headcanons are fine and dandy, but you can’t insist that they are actually canon, and then attack anyone who reminds you that they aren’t. Like, this is fine:

Person A: I ship Character A and B, and I have these headcanons about this character, but I acknowledge that they are just my headcanons. They are not real, and they are just my opinion, and other people can agree or respectfully disagree with my opinion.

Person B: I don’t agree with your headcanons, but you are entitled to your opinion, and I will respect it.

Person A: Ok great, let’s agree to respectfully disagree!

But this is not:

Person A: (Ship name between A and B) is CANON! This character is canonically (Insert label)!

Person B: You’re allowed to have headcanons, but what you’re saying isn’t true at all. Character A is canonically married to Character C, and the creator said that Character D isn’t (Insert label)!

Person A: You’re racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic! Let me have this one thing!

Say, what now? I’ve been wanting a movie adaptation of this since I was a teenager, but I hope they don’t fuck it up. Please don’t fuck it up.
