More than 700 other scientists from across European member states and scientific disciplines have deep concern about the recent turn of the political tide against the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulation, writes Jeroen Candel. Jeroen Candel is an associate professor teaching food politics and European Union governance at Wageningen University and Research. The heavy use of chemical pesticides in agriculture is strongly linked to declines in insects, birds, biodiversity in terrestrial and aquatic systems, and detrimental impacts on global public health. Given the urgent need for mitigating these impacts, it is worrying to observe that a number of member state governments and MEPs have recently called for the delay or watering down of the new pesticides regulation. Citing questionable ‘food security’ and ‘resilience’ concerns that echo the discourse of vested interests, politicians have called for an additional impact assessment to the thorough assessment performed by the Commission before the outbreak of the Ukraine war. Let me be very clear: there is not a single, serious scientist in the field who would argue that the pesticides regulation would pose a risk to European food security. Quite the contrary, there is a high degree of consensus that the rapid loss of biodiversity, together with climate change, constitutes the biggest threat to the sustainability and resilience of our food system, as once more corroborated by the European Commission’s recent staff working document on the drivers of food security.

Dude, how can it be that every single fucking thing about US politics trends on here immediately, yet when 27 countries in the EU vote and there's a historic, alarming lurch to the right (far right parties have won the elections in Italy, Austria and France), it's not even trending? In Germany, the AFD, a right-wing populist, anti-democratic, racist party with a wing that is officially extremist (read: Nazis) and is in parts monitored by the office for the protection of the constitution, is the second strongest party (also among 17-24 year olds!). Guess I'll die.
Hey, if you have half a minute and care about the LGTBQIA+ community in the EU, I'd suggest you take a look at this initiative to ban conversion therapies in the EU.
1 million people are required to sign, but there's barely 100k. The form takes less than a minute, it only requires your ID, name and surname.
Please, help spread the initiative so that it can reach the goal ASAP!
There's an EU initiative going on right now that essentially boils down to wanting to force videogame publishers with paid games and/or games with paid elements such as DLC, expansions and microtransactions to leave said games in a playable state after they end support, or in simpler terms, make them stop killing games.
A "playable state" would be something like an offline mode for previously always online titles, or the ability for people to host their own servers where reasonably possible just to name some examples.
I don't think I need to tell anyone that having something you paid for being taken from you is bad, which is a thing that routinely happens with live service and other always online games with a notable recent example being The Crew which is now permanently unplayable.

Even if you're not European or you signed it already, you can share this initiative with anyone who is, even if they don't care about videogames specifically because this needs a million signatures and there is different thresholds that need to be met for each EU country for their votes to even count and could also be a precedent for other similar practices like when Sony removed a bunch of Discovery TV content people paid for.
COVID is slowly becoming a “third world” disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can’t get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.

Eu encontro na escritura uma bela forma de expressão, uma arte, a modelação de um pensamento. Encontrei na escritura a forma de me fazer bem, de me equilibrar de estar em paz comigo.
