thinking thinking thinking about rook having absolutely no idea how thoroughly they're destroying emmrich with their proximity, with little touches, with their interest in his work or their smile or their honesty with him about everything happening all around them. their hair brushes the back of his hand or their fingers on his shoulder, and he has to spend a solid ten minutes in silence once they leave in order for sense to reassert itself. emmrich snapping at poor manfred because he was entirely too overwhelmed and too frazzled to deal with his rattling. his thin laugh when rook asks him if he's doing alright. the wringing out of his long-fingered hands and perpetual sigh on his lips and the inability to sit still when he thinks of what they felt like, what they smelled like, what they looked like by candlelight or in the sun. i'm glad we all sort of agree that emmrich is not going to take his attraction to rook well. life is handing him lemons, and he's dropping them all onto his feet.
Emmrich being comfortable with the idea that he won't find a long term partner in this lifetime and despite finding himself attracted to Rook tries to keep them at arms length, even to the point where he mentally tries to pair them up with another of their companions to sway his thoughts away from Rook.
Yet.
He can't deny that there are moments with Rook that feel as if they are solely reserved for him.
The deep relaxed sighs and comfortable silence over tea.
The lingering glances and poorly hidden grin when he says something witty.
The way their features soften and warm when he enters a room.
He can cherish those moments even if he feels as though he cannot cherish Rook alone.
in love with emmrich's tarot card bc it makes him look like a creepy grandpa doing illegal corpse experiments in his basement. meanwhile all other info on him implies that he's a really sweet guy and his romance will be sensual and intimate
i'm having absolutely perverse thoughts about emmrich volkarin being touched and touching in return and marveling at how responsive his partner is. thinking thinking thinking about him pressing his lips to the veins in his partner's wrist and having to shut his eyes in order to let the sensation of their pulse drumming against his mouth wash over him. his work isn't particularly lonely (he does have peers, after all), but it doesn't give him a great deal of wiggle room in terms of romance, after all, and there was no small amount of yearning in him even thirty years ago. how much has changed since? is he still lonely? does he still want to be loved and cared for so completely that his partner wants their bones to rest alongside his?
