trying to finish some destiny wips ive been working on for ages and this is genuinely one of my favorite drifteris snippets ive ever written. maybe perhaps i will Finish It

Eris Morn is not a woman who wishes for pity. Sympathy makes her ache nearly as bad as any physical ill she’d suffered; more foreign in her than her own three eyes. The tentative, placating words of others do nothing to put her at ease. Words alone cannot bring back anything she’d lost, sacrificed, or gambled away of her own free will, after all. She isn’t fond of them in the slightest.

The only balm capable of soothing her is a strange one, made from unknown ingredients and applied in a thick layer whether Eris likes it or not. It stings, seeping into her skin, penetrating her down to the marrow each time. He can’t help being obnoxious, she’s aware, it’s simply in his nature. An ointment of his own to rub over the wounds of being known. As much as she’d like to say she knows the Drifter, she doesn’t. Eris has no weapons or words capable of piercing through that thick, cold skin, but she doesn’t necessarily mind it.

Whatever truth lies buried under the Drifter is inconsequential to her. She knows his hands, each scar and callous and imperfection; his voice, the cadence and lilt of it, the way he clips the ending clean off of his words and slurs them into a drawl. She knows that he fiddles with his jade pendant when he’s nervous, upset, frustrated, thinking hard, or holding back excitement. She knows his nicknames for her; Moondust when he’s trying to be romantic, Three-Eyes when he’s trying to push her buttons. Eris knows enough about the Drifter to keep her curiosity sated, for now.

The Drifter’s Gambit is one thing Eris has never bothered to study much. Why should she invest her time learning the ropes of a simple game meant for trigger-happy Guardians to shed the blood of aliens and their own? How could Eris hope to participate while she had nothing but an Ahamkara bone in hand and Stasis replacing her Light? Why was she pacing around the Drifter’s alleyway, eyes darting impatiently from the open grate to the swirling bank of motes to the jade coin discarded on the table? More questions with answers that Eris will never know.

This week's drifter and Eris lore

So for those of you who might not have read this week's new lore entry, here it is. It's the fourth entry in the "Purpose" lore book, this chapter called "Tether." The tldr is Drifter wants Eris to talk to Sloane because Eris is really good at talking people through their emotions. Eris feels like this is out of the blue, and tells Drifter that he should do it instead.

Since Drifter and Eris' relationship started to be something more than friends, I've always felt that Eris is probably bi or pansexual. I think she is definitely into Drifter now and she at least had a crush on Ikora (though it's fun to imagine Ikora and Eris dated a bit long ago).

Anyway, this lore entry definitely drops a lot of hints that these two are going to end up in a relationship. The first two lines are: "Eris let her eyes wander over the interior of the Derelict, wondering if Drifter had hastily tidied it before her arrival. Unprecedented, but he could still surprise her." They've had a few of these conversions on Drifters ship in lore and this is definitely the first he's tried to organize the hot mess that is his ship.

At one point, Drifter doesn't feel like he can help Sloane and becomes silent. "Eris reached out and placed a hand on his arm. He was tensed to trembling, but her touch was light. Quiet. Comforting." And you know what Drifter does? He puts his hand over Eris' hand.

Already these two things are telling about their relationship right now and where it is headed. But we get a bit more. Drifter asks Eris, "Hey, you find that joy yet?" Referring to how Eris during Witch Queen believes she can find joy again in her life after so long of dealing with anguish after losing her ghost/everything that happened in the Hell Mouth. Eris answers with "Soon. Joy is built...but I have taken the first step." This could easily be related to their relationship. They haven't gone anywhere with it but they are taking slow steps to make it something more than friendship.

Then Eris gets ready to leave and she says, "Consider my counsel, Germaine." Drifter does put up a bit of a fight that that isn't his name anymore, but he eventually allows Eris to call him that. Gone are the days of calling him Rat (though I suppose if he's an idiot, he might still get called that from time to time).

Anyway, yeah, it looks more and more like Eris and Drifter are gonna end up in a relationship. Idk how it'll go for them. Heck, even if they end up a thing, idk how official they'd make it. So we'll see. But it's really cute seeing Eris be this open to someone.

Season of the Deep in a nutshell. Osiris working hard and everyone else just partying Sloane was told this is a major operation to make her show up, but it's really Drifter throwing a drinking party.

The Crafting Mystery

(yes, this is a parody — and yes this is the second time I make a parody of the same scene that is printed in my brain at this point)

When I ship Ikora with both Chalco and Eris and Eris with both Ikora and Drifter, and this season is like, really sapphic gay...maybe I'm just gonna start saying they're in a poly/open relationship together lol. Three great female characters in a poly? Hell yeah! Tho would Chalco joke about Eris sleeping with the Drifter of all people? Yes, yes she would.

nah but what eris and ikora have going on is genuinely so gay like i like eris and drifters relationship more these last couple interactions but as friends. but ikora and eris?? bro what do you mean they haven’t been in a slow burn romance for the last like idk 500 years game time probably liiiiiike it’s rEALLY gay my guy kiss already
