Drarry marriage AU
Harry picks up the letter the owl just dropped by his window and flew away. Harry was very well familiar with the owl and he knew it was from Ron . Harry immediately smiled after reading the letter and went to Draco to give the good news .
Harry finds Draco on the couch reading the Muggle book someone suggested him .
" Draco " he calls out to get his attention .
" yes Harry " Draco smiles putting the book down .
" we received Ron's wedding invitation " Harry giddily says plopping down next to Draco who immediately wraps his arms around Harry .
" that's good . When is it ?" He asks taking the letter away from Harry .
" a month from now " Harry smiles kissing Draco's cheeks .
" wow they moved fast didn't they " Draco said still reading the letter
" I mean I don't see why they should delay it , they love each other and they want to spend more time together, what's better than being married " harry replied frowning . Harry had always looked forward to getting married one day and settling down and he looked for the same future with Draco .
" of course harry " Draco suddenly said looking up at him and giving him a fake smile. Harry was too much into Draco to know draco was faking it .
" Draco , tell me " harry insisted .
" I- I just don't see marriage that way " Draco sighed giving up knowing he had been caught whatsoever.
" what do you mean ?" Harry knew this wasn't headed anywhere nice by the looks of it but he wanted to know what Draco thought of marriage to protect his interests and to protect himself of sheer embarrassment to love the idea of marriage .
" I just think marriage is a society established thing you know like everyone tells you one day that you have to get married and settle down but I don't see any difference in being married you know . Like from girlfriend and boyfriend you go to husband and wife and like in our case it'd be husband and husband but it's Just labels to me just like being boyfriends. I don't see why marriage have to define how much you love someone . Despite whatever happens in future I'd still love you the same but I don't see why marriage have to define every step I take but hey it's good for them . Ron and Hermione getting married is a good thing " Draco says trying to be excited and despite the fact harry thought he was ready to hear draco's perspective , he was not and he could feel himself getting ripped because all he wanted was to spend the rest of their lives together and he wanted to marry Draco one day but if Draco didn't believe in marriage , Maybe he never wanted to get married .
"right , you're right. Just labels " harry found himself saying .
"I - I should get back to laundry by the way . Enjoy your book" harry abruptly stood up
" hey hey , harry you alright ?" Draco stood up concerned .
" I'm fine " harry gave him a fake smile and a quick kiss and left leaving Draco confused.
And this went on for days , harry thought he'd get over the fact that Draco infact never wanted to get married but him being upset turned into anger and that led to arguments though harry ended up apologising and Draco being concerned about his behaviour and constantly asking if everything was fine and harry would give him a fake satisfaction about everything being fine but then it being not really fine for him at all . Harry did try to talk to Ron but with his upcoming wedding and everything he didn't want to ruin his happiness so he let the hurting truth drown him .
This was until the day of Ron and Hermione's wedding.
" it was a great wedding wasn't it ?" Draco smiled as he put down the keys to their hotel room on the table .
" yeah " harry absent mindedly responded. Harry was upset that what beautiful ceremony he saw today , he was never going to get it . He would never stand in front of his friends and family and confess his love to Draco , that he would never be able to put a ring on his finger , that he'd never be able to say his vows , that he'd never have a marriage dance with Draco where he'd constantly embarrass himself but would still enjoy it . He was never going to have any of it and that made him upset and angry .
" harry did you even listen to me ?" Draco asked as he held Harry's shoulder shaking him out of his world .
"what ?" Harry responded bewildered.
" i- I just said it was a great wedding , wasn't it harry ?" Draco frowned
" oh yeah it was , very beautiful " despite Harry's tries to not to sound sarcastic , Draco did find himself offended because he could see even a little amount of sarcasm in his voice anytime .
" harry , what is wrong with you ? You've barely paid any attention to me in the entire wedding , you didn't even asked me to dance , you just sat there had a drink , talked with loads of people except me like I wasn't even there and it's not just about today , you come home from work and you just read there on bed in silence , eat dinner in silence . It's like you're physically there but mentally absent , please tell me if something is wrong with you ? We can fix it together , we're boyfriends , we love each other , right ?" Draco tried not to sound angry and sad at the same time but had miserably failed . Draco didn't wanted to say it but he started feeling as if harry had started to fall out of love with him .
" you want to know what's wrong ? My boyfriend wants to know what's wrong ? That's suprising because last time I checked you don't even use the word boyfriends for us publicly Draco ! It's almost as if you're ashamed of us being together , you don't even want any of what we saw today and you think I would want to give you any attention . Do you even realise how hard it is for me to look you in the eye and tell you what's wrong ? Do you realise how hard it Must've been for me to stand there next to Ron as his best man knowing I'll never get him to be my best man ,that I'll probably never pronounce my vows to you ? No you don't because guess what marriage to you is a establishment and not something where people commit themselves for their lives " harry argued . He knew he shouldn't had but with a slight amount of alcohol in his system and with ongoing situation he couldn't resist it .
" WHAT ? so you want to blame me for having own beliefs , the last time I saw a law book , it wasn't a crime to have your opinion about something -"
" exactly Draco , it's all your opinion . It's not mine , you didn't even ask me what I wanted , you didn't even say once about spending future together . It's always you and your mindset , it's never mine - and i- I I need some air " harry stopped himself before he could see Draco cry because no matter how much they argued sometimes , harry hated to make Draco cry or to even hurt him . Harry had never deliberately tried to make Draco cry and he wasn't going to start now because draco sure looked like he was about to cry .
Harry took the room keys and went outside . He knew he couldn't possibly go somewhere and afford to get lost so he sat outside the hotel building to cool himself off .
" what have I done ?" Harry groaned to himself .
Draco was right to have his own beliefs ,he wasn't wrong to think that marriage was something established because in reality it actually was something established by people . And what's there in names right , like nothing can possibly change more after marriage. Right ? If he really loved Draco , wouldn't he want to spend the rest of their lives together , married or not ? But even if Harry tried to think of it this way he had fantasized marrying Draco from pretty much forever and it wouldn't just go away. Only if he had known from the beginning about it , maybe he could have protected his heart and draco's too .
He sat there not for long when the hotel's main gate opened and Draco walked out ..
" you fucking arse harry potter " draco cried and harry was obviously oblivious of draco's actions .
" you left me all alone upstairs right after you say all this bullshit about me being selfish ! You think I'm selfish harry potter so be it , you literally knew who you were getting in a relationship with , you should've known that all the sweatshirts you are going to buy were going to be mine or that house of yours will be mine too and those stupid friends will also be mine and also that I'm high maintenance .. don't tell me I'm selfish because you knew it all along but you wanna know what I'm most selfish about is that - no let me speak - I'm most selfish about that stupid heart of yours and I refuse to let it go so if you think harry james potter , saviour of the fucking wizarding world that marriage is going to bring us down then you're wrong , if marriage is what it takes to be with you , I'll marry you 700 times , only it's illegal though " Draco paused to look for any kind of reaction on Harry's face but harry didn't give any , instead he got up and instantly hugged Draco tightly .
" I love you Draco but I don't want a marriage because I want it , I want a marriage with you because we want it , both of us . Its only marriage I can adjust " harry wanted to cry but he didn't . He couldn't be weak , not right now but despite that he could hear his own voice break and he tried to hide it in draco's neck.
Draco held Harry but his shoulders and pulled him a bit away to just see his face .
" harry I love you , I love you so much but I mean it , marriage isn't going to separate us . If marriage means so much to you we can get married tonight but you're right , I want is to want this too . So trust me when I say this " Draco kneeled down .
" this is the best ring I could find since it's a key chain but I wanted to propose you because despite everything I lo-"
" Draco , please don't " harry cried .
" no harry let me , I love you and yes this is some kind of proposal but my proposal is not marriage right now , my proposal is to accept my selfish ass and forgive me and tell me why it bloody hell matters to you so much that you refused to talk to me for a month , do you even know how hard that was - i- I felt - I thought you didn't - didn't love me anymore " Draco cried . Harry immediately kneeled down and hugged Draco out of shock .
" how could you think that ? I'll never stop loving you , if anything I love you more each day " harry wiped off draco's tears.
" I just felt -"
" shush . I wouldn't ever do that to you " harry wrapped his arms around him once again.
They sit there hugging each other for moments until Draco decided to ask once again.
" what do you think of marriage harry ?"
" you don't have to "
" I want to know . I have the right to know . Please tell me " Draco pleaded .
" fine " harry sighed " marriage is an establishment and you're right but to me I've pretty much always fantasized about marrying you , like would it be Draco potter or harry Malfoy but I always felt Draco potter have a nice ring to it , I used to even doodle it on my sheets . I don't want a marriage Draco because of the name's sake , I want a marriage because I want to commit myself to you and only you for the rest of my life , I want to stand in front of our friends and family and say my vows to you and make you wear a ring and kiss you at the alter and be tied to you for forever because marriage to me is about love and growing together . I want to move in a flat one that says Malfoys or potters , and call me cheesy but I want people to call us husbands . I want all of that. I want to tell you how much I love everyday and to wake up next to you each morning and call you my husband but Draco if that isn't what you want , we can still be boyfr-"
" will you marry me harry ?" Draco asked suddenly.
" what ?"
" you heard me , I'd be a damned to hear you say all this and still not want a marriage with you . I want everything you just said because I want to marry you harry and it's not because you want , it's because I want it too , maybe some months after this but I want to commit myself to you . I want to call you my husband , it have nice ring you know " Draco smiled . Harry still couldn't believe Draco had indeed said all of that .
" so , harry james potter , ridiculously annoying idiot will you marry me ?" Harry chuckled but nodded . Draco kneeled down and the put the key chain on Harry's fingers .
" it's loose " harry laughed . Draco stood up and kissed him .
" I know but hey my love is real " Draco chuckled . They both kissed each other for a while before breaking away and just staring at each other in the eyes , smiling .
" this was the worst proposal in the history of muggle and wizarding world " Draco laughed
" but it was original " harry smiled . Draco nodded before kissing him again .
2 years later
" I was the one who wanted to get married first " Draco argued in a losing argument to pansy ..
" sure Draco I believe you " pansy sarcastically rolled her eyes.
" sure he's right" harry laughed.
" hey. You're supposed to support me " Draco taunted.
" love I always support you " harry kissed the top of his head .
"but I did want it " Draco cried dramatically
" I know , Draco I know "
And indeed harry knew .
And even in unspoken words Harry potter and Draco Malfoy potter were in love like none was .
