"Denji, would you like to come to the store with me?"

The said male stopped petting Pochita as he shift his attention on yours, his face a pure mask of confusion, "Why?....I mean yeah sure.." he agrees, thinking less of it, he thought maybe you just need help carrying the groceries and maybe give him some extra change or something.

He swiftly stood up, putting Pochita on top of his head as he gingerly follows you down the street, a smile plastered on his lips as he hums lightly. His eyes flit to your figure busy confirming the grocery list in your hand.

The two of you met when he went to kill a devil residing within your family's farm. To say that you were shock that he's using a devil to kill another one was an understatement. But that grin he had on his face as he pat the small creature proudly made those thoughts vanish intantaneously.

After his quick work, you offered him a cup of tea and some biscuits, for which he didn't shy away from, much to your relief. You are completely certain you haven't seen the strange boy your whole life, and you grew up in this small town. But then again, you're not the type to wander around either.

He was sat by the patio, simply staring at the tea cup held in his hands, he watched the steam billows out as he breathes on it unintentionally, his eyes blinks back at the beverage with keen interest.

A light chuckle left your lips as you put the small plate of biscuits by his side,

He instantly looks down at the noise, and you swore there's stars in his eyes,

"Thank you for the food!" He hollered, as he took a huge gulp from the cup,

A loud gasp left your lips, your hands reaching out to stop him, but it was too late. He drank the whole thing, it was steaming hot!

"Why did you....." you muttered in disbelief, unable to finish your sentence as you carefully observe his strangely quiet reaction,

Denji only scrunched his face lightly, as he lolls his tongue out in pain, "ywat hes.." (that's hot) he tried saying, his face was slightly red, and you swore he might have accidentally injured himself too,

"Are you okay? Oh my god, you shouldn't drink tea in one sitting!"

He gingerly looks at you, he seems genuinely confused, which only concerns you even further, "You...don't know what tea is?"

He immediately shook his head to disgree, seemingly already recovered "I do! Of course...."

"Then..why?"

He grins awkwardly, a hand sheepishly rubbing the back of his head, "I just have no idea it'll be that hot?"

You can only stare at him in bewilderment,

Strange. This boy is strange. He doesn't seemed that youngㅡwas your first impression towards the boy, but now you've come to a realization that he's not the typical grown up either, he's probably a middle schooler, somewhere around your age, but slightly malnourished from the way his eyes sunken a little, hence why you thought he'll be older.

But then again, his face overall isn't that bad actually, in fact he looks strangely cute, youthful even. Like those models advertising local teen brands.

As if noticing your stare, the male pursed his lips before averting his gaze somewhere else, light pink dusted his cheeks in an embarassed manner.

"What is your name by the way?"

His eyes flit back to you for a second before looking back at the empty cup in his hands, "Denji."

You smiled, telling him your name as well, the small exchange somehow made him relaxed a little, to the point that he can stuff his mouth with biscuits more than he could actually handle.

"Would you like an orange juice for that?" You chuckled lightly,

He instantly lightens up, nodding his head repeatedly in respose as his own mouth failed him.

It's been a few weeks since then, you often see him around affer that since apparently he usually take the road near your house to get to his destinations, you weren't sure what he's doing or who's he working with, he hadn't bothered telling you about it though, it wasn't as if you've dared to ask anyway.

But you have this strange feeling that he won't tell you eitherway when there comes a chance you managed to ask it.

He seemed like a really secretive guy.

The sound of the sliding door opening greets you both, as you stepped inside the grocery store, the cool air conditioned room a stark contrast from the sweltering weather outside,

"Come," you grasp Denji by the hand as you grab a small basket with the other, not aware of the flustered look on the male's face as he stared down at your intertwined hands, yours felt so small, soft and warm... unconsciously, he squeeze your hand lightly, which made you turn to look at him questioningly, a bottle of ketchup midway onto your basket,

"Yes?" You asks, you awaited the male's answer, but he remained quiet, eyes glued onto your hands, you simply smiled, squeezing his hand back, "I don't want you to get lost, silly." You laugh lightly, as you continue your stroll, "You've wandered off from me last time in the market, remember?"

Of course he remembered that, why wouldn't he? That was like his first date, but not a first date. Shame, he thought once again, he likes the way you style your hair that day though.

"....and not to mention you were spacing out a lot lately you know, are you eating enough? You've gotten thinner... I hope Pochita was being fed well too..." you continued to ramble on, as you add more items in your basket,

"Speaking of..." you turned towards the two,  "Pochita, are you eating well? I sure do hope Denji here isn't hoarding all the food, cause you also do the work you know!"

Pochita simply bark happily as if to answer your claims, you sigh, giving Denji's hand a light squeeze once again, "I am not always there to give you two biscuits you know, so take care of yourself. Both of you." You sigh, letting your other hand to rest against Denji's cheeks, he look back at you, eyes slightly wide, as he slowly processed the scene infront of him, he almost malfunctioned right there.

But you pull away before he could, thankfully.

As the two of you made your way to the counter, you saw the large fridge for cold treats, grinning, you drag the poor boy with you once again, he seemed confused as he stared at the cold machine in front of him,

"I'll have a few spare change, want some ice cream you two?"

Pochita barks happily, once again agreeing with you, the other however was simply silent, an unreadable expression etched across his face, as though he's on a serious debate with someone and it'll cost him his own life if he answered wrong.

"Uhhh.. sure."

"Hmmm, what flavor would you like to try? I figured you've tried chocolate and vanilla before..even strawberry. So maybe we should try the....cookies and cream, caramel?" You suggests, he had no idea what you're talking about, but he simply agrees, a smile donning his face as he watched you happily took 3 items inside the machine, you paid for them by the counter, watching as his 5 months worth of money got spent in a single day. Normal people probably live like these everyday... how nice.

As you both exit the store, Denji was quiet,, it was almost scary.

"Denji?" You called out, a concerned look on your face,

"Huh?"

"Are you okay?"

The concern in your voice snapped him out as he grins back, "Yeah! Why?"

"Your ice cream is melting," he looks down, feeling something cold run down his fingers, it's uncomfortable, he thought.

"Eat it already," you lightly laugh,

Denji gulps and instantly took a weary yet large bite off of it. He froze, a sensitive tooth maybe, who knows?

"Sooooo, how was it? Pochita seemed to like it tho!" You grinned, crouching down the pavement to pet the small devil, you look up awaiting his response,

But the boy was strangely silent, head tilted upwards

"Denji?" You called out in concern,

He simply rub an arm against his face before chomping down another bite from his ice cream, "This is really good!"

"Those are yours, by the way." You smiled, as you point at the grocery bag in his hands. He insisted on escorting you back home after your little trip to the store, having no idea that the bag in his hand was his and Pochita to keep.

He stood there frozen, "...What? I...I shouldn'tㅡ"

"Well I insist!" You beamed back, a carefree grin etched across your lips, as you held the gate to slide it open, "I'll see you tomorrow!" and with that you went in, allowing Denji to sink in all that happened today, they are definitely too much to take in,

He got to hold a girl's hand

Went to shop with her

She held his cheek

He finally tasted ice cream

And she gave him some groceries too,

On their way back, Denji holds Pochita close to his chest, "This grocery will lasts us for 3 months, Pochita..."

PART II

(Part one:

https://at.tumblr.com/cieioarchives/denji-would-you-like-to-come-with-me-the-said/rlnjuybf3og7

Six days has passed since you last seen Denji, usually he's out and about cutting trees in the nearby forest, just south side of your house. You don't know where he lives or what he does for a living aside from hunting demons. Now that you've think about it, you hadn't know much about the man. He've been over to your house a couple of times before to eat biscuits, and share small conversations, but that was it. He had never once offered you to visit his home.

A frown grew evident on your forehead as you flip the pancake on the pan, the golden hue reminds you of a certain someone.

"Mom, I'll go visit my friend. I have left some pancakes and coffee here." You swiftly slid the box of pancakes inside your tote bag, "I'll probably be back after lunch or so," you informed them, she was busy doing laundry with your younger sister to see you off, so you settled with a quick "thank you, dear" from her.

On your way out, a sigh left your lips when you realized something,

You have no idea where he lives.

Steeling yourself, you grip your bag tighter, persistently assuring yourself you'll find it somehow.

So usually, he takes this route...every morning I can see him go down this mountain side,

You squint your eyes slightly, finding a small but worn path beside the mountain, leading upwards. That must be the same route he's taking to go down.

You refuse to overthink anything else as you trudge your way towards the mountainside, it was one serene morning, the weather isn't that hot nor was it too cold either, it was pretty cloudy, but it looks like it won't rain in the next few hours or so. You just hoped it wouldn't drop when you're ascending the mountain, you could risk getting lost, or worse hurt.

The walk was surprisingly easy, due to the worn path, but it was definitely exhausting. No wonder Denji was still built despite lacking enough nutrients. He was strangely thin, which always made you wonder if he's even eating well. And not to mention, there's two of them, you just hoped Denji was paid well for his work.

A huge exhale left your lips, as soon as you stepped on a flat surface,

finally!

That was definitely a treck for a lifetime, you'd probably need a good glass of cold drink, maybe two.

Surprised with your own achievement, you failed to see a small creature running towards you, its small feet padding against the dirt did little to no sound as the bearer glomps you,

"Pochita!" You laugh lightly, he made sure not to bump you with his chainsaw, as he squeeze himself closer to your warmth, you immediately wrap your arms around his tiny frame, so he wouldn't fall off. "You nearly scared me to death!" You breathed out, exhales leaving your lips as you stared at the tiny devil, not a single thought behind those large eyesㅡ

You sigh, finally grabbing him by his stomach to lay him on top of your head, like how Denji usually does, "Now, where's your owner?" You asks, holding him firmly on top of your head, so he wouldn't fall off.

Pochita simply barks to answer your question, in return you scan your eyes around, it was a huge clearing, a small and quaint building a few meters away from you stood quietly, "Is he there?" You asks, for which Pochita simply responds by barking lightly.

You walk towards the worn path, making sure not to drop Pochita as you go, now you wonder how Denji could do this when the tiny devil isn't that small to actually fit the expanse of your head.

You finally arrived at the small house, at least...from your view it is a house. It just looks a little run-down, with missing windows, barricade, and a rusty looking door. If it weren't for the freshly cut logs residing beside the building alongside the pungent smell of it wafting around, you would have guess Pochita was making fun of you.

Denji and Pochita does live here.

You frown your eyebrows lightly at the thought alone, "Denji? Are you there?" You called out, voice soft as to not scare or surprise him at your sudden appearance.

There was a crash, a lot of fumbling around, and a sound of something crashing down, followed with a pained groan.

You winced, but still called out to him anyway, "Denji?"

A minute has passed, and a two, you almost swore you might have mistook him for someone else, but before you could run for your life dragging Pochita along, the door opened slightly, enough for him to peer through, a familiar eye looks at you wearily, as your name left his lips in a whispered manner. He slowly took in your appearanceㅡ you look surprised, but relieved all at the same time.

A smile stretch itself across your lips, as you sigh in relief, "You're okay! You had me worried sick, I thought something bad happened to you, you know!" Pochita seemed to feel your frustration, as he barks at him as well, seemingly agreeing with you.

"It's been days since you went down, right? Are you eating okay? I think the groceries I bought wouldn't last you for six days!" You gently took Pochita off of you as you open your bag to give him the little treat you made this morning, "Here, I cooked them this morning, I bet they're still a little warm. I got some milk here too, I thought I'd share a breakfast with you two."

Denji simply eyed you from the small gap of his door, not even bothering to open it widely enough for you to see him, you stared back in confusion, "Can I enter?"

"No." He answered almost instantly, he eyed you again, he seemed restless, uncomfortable. And you don't want that.

You blink back, "If you think I find your house small, well you're entirely wrong." You started, putting both your hands against your hips for emphasis, but then you realized, it is small, but that was already obvious, clearing your throat you stared back at him once again, "I came here to meet a friend, not a house. So as long as you're decent enough behind that door, I am coming in."

You manhandled your way through the persistent blonde, but despite his muscles, he still lacks enough nutrient to utilize it to his advantage. The door can be opened from the inside, so pushing your way in wouldn't be that hard either. After a few seconds of struggling, mostly on Denji's part, he finally gave in, he took quick steps back to allow you to open the door enough for you to squeeze in through.

Your eyes immediately landed on the poor boy as he remained quiet, eyes downcast and looking at everything else aside from your own. He was making himself looks smaller within the dark corners of his room, as if he'd like to just disappear then and there.

"Denji..."

"You shouldn't even be here..." he started, after a few seconds of silence, his eyes still refusing to meet your own.

"I was just..."

"Well, I don't want you here." He spat back, almost venomously, if it weren't for his slightly shaken form, you would have took it the wrong way.

Pochita stood by you, seemingly confused, but he chose to remain by your side, quietly assessing his human friend. It was probably a new-found emotion he hadn't seen yet, that he find it intriguing. You wouldn't know, but having him beside you right there, feels almost comforting.

You ignored his words, as you busied yourself on taking out the packed food inside your bag,

"I have some pancakes and milk here for breakfast... although I really can't afford to buy a maple syrup or a chocolate dressing though, so I hope you'll still like them eitherway!ㅡ" your eyes landed on the familiar bag of groceries sat by the lone chair beside a worn mattress, there are still some items inside, some were unopened still.

Did he even opened that pack of bread? It'll go bad next week....

"Denji..." you look at the male, finding it hard in yourself to grew mad at him, there seems to be reason, but you couldn't exactly tell what. You knew devil hunters were paid well, he can afford to buy himself groceries, buy himself a new pack of bread even... but, not eating them? The money you used was a self-earned you've managed to save up after a few months of part timing. Looking as to what it ends up to, seems almost...sad.

Your eyes roam around the boy's rigid frame, the battered condition of his home, his restlessness....

You smiled, "I am sorry... I should have known you're not exactly in a good mood right now... I could wait for you outside, or if you want me to go back right now, that's okay too. I could just visit you in another time..."

Denji gritted his teeth, his throat tightening up lightly at the thought of you misunderstanding everything..

How can you be so naïve?

Thoughtful?

... Kind?

He does not deserve you.

"I'll leave these here, be sure to share it with Pochita, I bet he'll love these." You smiled, leaving your totebag with the box of pancakes and bottle of milks inside, "Maybe I'll see you when you're feeling better."

He wants to meet your eyes, he wants to see you...to tell you not to open that door, and leave him again, but he couldn'tㅡhe shouldn't. So he stayed put, biting the inside of his cheek so painfully it draws blood.

And then you're gone,

Silence ensues once again, even Pochita was silent too as he padded his way towards him, cautiously approaching him as if to test the waters.

His heart felt heavy against his chest. He don't like it, not one bit.

It's okay... it'll be okay...

"Denji, would you like to come with me?"

The said male stopped petting Pochita as he shift his attention on yours, his face a pure mask of confusion, "why? I mean yeah sure.." he agrees, thinking less of it, he thought maybe you just need help with carrying the groceries and maybe give him some tip or something.

He swiftly stood up, putting Pochita on top of his head as he gingerly follows you down the street, a smile plastered on his lips as he hums lightly, who would have thought he'll managed to walk alongside a girl one day?

Lucky!

The two of you met when he went to kill a radish devil residing within your family's farm. To say that you were shock that he's using a devil to kill another devil was an understatement. But that grin he had on his face as he pat the small devil proudly made those thoughts vanish almost instantly.

After his work, you offered him a cup of tea and some biscuits, your village wasn't exactly that wealthy, your family barely survives in a day, but you're thankful to eat atleast twice a day, if lucky maybe thrice even.

The boy seems to glow at the simple offer, he couldn't find it in himself to refuse, he was sat by the patio, simply staring at the tea cup held in his hands, he watched the steam billows out as he breathes on it unintentionally, he looks....baffled.

A light chuckle left your lips as you put the small plate of biscuits by his side,

He instantly looks down at the noise, and you can swear you see him glowing once more,

"Thank you for the food!" He hollered, as he took a huge gulp from the cup,

A loud gasp left your lips, your hands reaching out to stop him, but it was too late. He drank the whole thing, it was steaming hot!

"You...." you muttered in disbelief,

Denji scrunched his face lightly, as he lolls his tongue out in pain, "ywat hes" he tried saying, his face was slightly red, and you swore he might have accidentally injured himself too

"Are you okay? Omygod, you shouldn't drink tea in one sitting!"

He looks at you, he seems utterly confused, which only concerns you even more, "you..don't know what tea is?"

He immediately shook his head to disgree, seemingly already recovered "I do! Of course...."

"Then..why?"

He grins awkwardly, a hand sheepishly rubbing the back of his head, "i just...dont know how to drink it.."

You simply stared at him, assessing his appearance, his face isn't that bad, in fact he looks cute, youthful, he could pass as a model in a brand made for younger teens if given, although he was looking a little too thin, his hair was on the drier side, and you would swore he hasn't brush it today, or even yesterday. A light blush made itself known across his cheeks, dusting it in pale pink, he has his eyes diverted somewhere else, taking note not to meet your gaze,

"Well, have some biscuits?"

He lightens up, "Don't mind if I do!"

It's been a few weeks since then, you often see him around affer that, he usually take the road near your house to get to his destinations, you weren't sure what he's doing or who's he working with, he wouldn't bother telling you about it though, it wasn't as if you've dared to ask, but you just have this feeling that he won't tell you eitherway.
