Prompt - ‘I never saw you coming and I'll never be the same.’

Notes - We're celebrating Red (Taylor's Version) here and I'll be doing imagines for each song on the album so if you have a request (any fandom I write for) send it in!

You never saw him coming. It was like one day the universe had decided it was going to stop screwing you over and finally give you something good. Everything about him was so amazingly unique, he was everything you’d wanted in a person, everything a person should be and somehow he had decided you were something special too.

That morning you made the short walk to the cafe you frequently went to before work, passing a blur of cars only slowing down as the traffic lights changed. The streets were busy despite the earliness, shades of red painted the sky in the morning hours and birds could barely be heard chirping over the noise of the cars.

Despite the music in your ears your thoughts were on the failure of last night's blind date. It was one of many, your friends determined that you needed a partner but after your last relationship, dating was honestly the last thing you wanted to do but you relented and went out with the guys they found. Your last boyfriend had been horrible. He was sweet in the beginning but as time went on… You’d tried to leave the relationship so many times but you just couldn’t. Eventually you had managed to leave, packing your bags and leaving for good.

And now you were stuck being set up because your friends thought a relationship would help, it had been long enough they had told you. Sure they were right, it had been a while since you left your ex but each date they set you up on was just…boring. None of the men were able to hold an intellectual conversation, all of them were just very plain. The last guy was a creep to say the least, something about him made you feel very uneasy. It wasn’t even anything in particular he said but just a feeling, the way he looked at you…it set all the internal warning alarms off.

Thankfully you were able to politely decline his advances for him to come to your house and get back home safely. You had told yourself that was the last date you were going on and that’s when he came into your life and you’d never be the same again.

“Excuse me,” A soft voice said, interrupting you from the page you were reading. Looking up you saw a man, his eyes were bright and kind and there was a gentle smile on his face. He looked down at you, fidgeting with the bag on his shoulder. “I’m so sorry to disturb you, I was just wondering if it would be ok if I sat here?” He asked, gesturing to the empty seat across from you.

You scanned the cafe quickly, taking note of how it had filled since you’d walked in before turning your attention back to the man in front of you. He was a handsome looking man, with sharp cheekbones and long hair that looked soft. He was wearing a suit and you guessed he was on his way to work and, like you, was early enough to enjoy a hot drink in the small cafe. He seemed kind, there was something about him that seemed trustworthy.

You smiled up at him and gestured towards the seat, “Of course.”

“Thank you so much.” He smiled, shrugging his bag off and sitting down opposite you.

You didn’t want to stare at him, you tried to turn your attention back to the book in your hands but it was near impossible. Biting your lip, you risked a glance up and saw he was looking out of the window at the different people passing, his drink warming his hands, before he turned in your direction. You were quick to look away but he continued to look at you, glancing down at the book you had been reading.

“Sherlock?” He asked, a grin spreading across his face.

“My friend suggested that I read it,” You smiled back.

“What do you think so far?” Somehow, just from looking at the man across from you, it didn’t surprise you that he was a reader, of course you wouldn’t know yet just how much he read but right now it just made sense.

“I’m actually really enjoying it. I was a little apprehensive considering it was written so long ago but it’s really good.”  You watched as his face lit us as you spoke, eyes wide as he listened to yours words, nodding along with you.

“I think Doyle’s writing, despite being written in 1892, is very much still readable to this day. That’s one of the many great things about his writing…” And with that the man began to ramble on about how the writing style, the use of imagery and how well the plot develops.

You rested your chin on your fist, leaning forward in your seat as the man spoke. You couldn’t help but smile as his hands gestured widely in front of him, the passion he spoke with was beautiful to watch. The man before you was so unashamedly expressive in sharing his thoughts and opinions with you and you could do little more than listen, captivated by him, nodding along as you took in his words.

Your eyebrows knitted together as he cut himself off abruptly, his cheeks turning red as he looked down at his lap.

“I’m sorry, usually people stop me when I start rambling. I’ve already distracted you and here I am now not letting you read-“ He was saying but you cut him off.

“Hey, I was actually enjoying listening to you. Not many people are able to hold a conversation about classic literature, yet alone with the passion you have.” You told him, smiling softly as his cheeks flushed some more but the frown was gone and a smile made its way back onto his face. Good, you thought, he looks so much better when he’s smiling.

“Yeah,” He said with a bashful laugh, “I quite enjoy reading, though I rarely get a chance to talk about the things I’ve read.”

“Same here,” You told him, though you doubted you liked to read as much as him, the man seemed like the type to have full bookcases and then more books scattered throughout his house.

The man went to speak but was cut off by the ringing off his phone, he shot you an apologetic smile before fishing the phone out of his pocket.

“Hey,” He answered, the smile dropping from his face as the person on the phone spoke. His face grew serious as he nodded to whatever information he was being given, “I’ll be in soon, alright, bye.”

“Sorry about that.” He said, turning back to you.

“No problem, I should get to work too.” You smiled and began to pack your phone and book away. The man stood when you did and the two of you walked out of the cafe together, you smiling as he held the door open for you to step out first.

“Hey, um, I don’t,” the man began, clearing his throat and he shuffled on his feet, “I don’t normally do this, ever,” here he paused to let out an awkward, breathy laugh, “but would it maybe, and totally say no if I’m overstepping, but would it be ok if I gave you my number? I’m really curious to see what you’ll think about the book.”

You couldn’t help the soft smile that spread across your face. The man in front of you was charmingly awkward right now, making it obvious that his statement of not doing this much was true. Though you had said you were done with guys and dating, you wanted this one to give you his number and you wanted to speak to him again.

“I’d like that.” You told him honestly, laughing as he looked at you in slight shock for a second before nodding. You pulled your phone out and let him enter his phone number.

“It really was great meeting you…” He said before trailing off, looking at you curiously.

“Y/F/N, Y/F/N Y/L/N.” You told him, watching as he smiled before repeating it to himself.

“It was really great meeting you, Y/N. I’m Spencer Reid by the way.” He told you with a dimpled smile.

“It was great meeting you too.” You said, shocked by how much you meant it. The two of you stood outside of the cafe for a moment, just smiling at each other before you cleared your throat. “I should let you get to work.”

“Right, right, you too!” He said, still making no move to leave causing your smile to grow.

“I’ll call you.” You promise, watching as he nodded.

“I hope so.” He said softly before wishing you a good day and heading in the opposite direction to you.

You had never saw him coming and things would never be the same.

You called Spencer that evening, filling him in on the latest chapters you’d read, him happily listening with a grin on his face and adding his own thoughts and opinions throughout. You were surprised with how easy it was to talk to him, it felt like you had known him for your whole life, like meeting an old friend who you had fallen out of touch with before being thrown back into each other's life again.

The two of you spoke for at least two hours, both with wide smiles on your faces and butterflies in your stomach.

As the time began to dawn on the two of you, you both began to say your goodnight but before you could hand up the phone Spencer stopped you.

“Wait,” He said, louder than either you had been speaking, causing you to raise an eyebrow. “Would you like to go out for dinner?” The way he asked made it sound like he was shocking himself.

You couldn’t help but smile to yourself. You had meant it this morning when you said you were done with dating, the men your friends had set you up with were either dreadfully dull, only there to get in your pants or creeps…or a mix of all three. But Spencer, there was something about Spencer that immediately put you at ease, his non threatening demeanour made you feel safe around him and, as shown through the two and a half hour phone call tonight, he was anything but boring. The way he spoke, even across the phone, was lively, it was endearing and you found yourself wanting to see him again.

“I’d love to.” You told him honestly.

“Oh,” he said, causing you to laugh, “that’s great, really great. Um, I’ll let you know when I’m back and we can figure something out if that’s ok with you?”

“Yeah, that’s fine,” you said before pausing, titling your head in confusion, “Wait, where are you?”

“I’m in California. I work for the FBI’’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.” He told him, causing your eyebrow to furrow together before it clicked.

“You’re a profiler?” You asked.

“Is that ok?” He asked back, knowing that this could be the dealbreaker and he’d understand, he really would, this job was dangerous and he knew that would take a toll on any partners.

You thought it over for a moment, as dangerous as the job seemed, you wanted to get to know Spencer.

“Let me know when you’re back in town.” You said, causing him to smile widely to himself.

“I will,” he told you softly, “Goodnight, Y/N.”

“Goodnight Spencer.” You before hanging up the phone and throwing yourself back onto your bed with a grin.

Spencer had a smile on his face that he could wipe off if he tried and he held the phone tightly in his hands. He was sitting outside, the sun had just been setting when you had first called him. He was in his hotel room with Derek but upon hearing your voice he excused himself to go sit outside the hotel he was staying at, a jacket thrown over his shoulders to combat the slight chill of the autumn air.

He sat there for a few minutes before he made his way back to his room, fully prepared for the grin that Derek shot him as he walked in. Derek let Spencer go about his nightly routine and waited until the younger profiler had sat down on his own bed before speaking up.

“C’mon kid, talk to me.” He exclaimed, watching as Spencer rolled his eyes but a smile worked its way onto his face, “Who’s the girl?”

Spencer debated it for a moment before sighing dramatically causing Derek’s grin to widen, if it were possible.

“Her name is Y/N, I met her this morning before we got called in and I’m taking her out when we get back.” He told Derek who let out a laugh of disbelief.

“Spencer Reid, my man!” He laughed, standing to clap a hand on Spencer’s shoulder.

Spencer couldn’t help but grin up at Derek. They both knew how something like this was not something Spencer did…ever but it felt right with you. He wanted to get to know you, even if it meant stepping outside of his comfort zone.

“She must be one hell of a girl.” Derek said, making his way to the bathroom with a grin firmly in place. He was happy for the kid, it was about time he got a break.

Spencer didn’t disagree with Derek’s statement as he settled into bed, already planning on what to do for your date.

“Wow,” Spencer said, feeling speechless, “you look stunning.” He said, finally causing you to blush widely.

“Thank you,” You smiled, looking him up and down, “You’re looking pretty stunning too.” You told him, watching as his own blush spread across his cheeks.

“Thank you,” He smiled shyly, looking down before looking at you, holding an arm out for you to take before leading you to the car and holding the door open for you. You smiled softly at him before climbing in, smoothing your dress out nervously as he made his way to the drivers side.

It wasn’t long before the two were seated, conversation flowing easily between the two of you.

“He gave your number to the press?” You asked through your laughter, Spencer sat opposite you laughing himself, dimples on full display.

“Yeah, gave them my name and everything and Morgan’s a, he's good with women so obviously my phone was ringing constantly.” He continued, watching as you smiled brightly as you laughed along.

“Did you at least get him back?” You giggled watching as Spencer smirked.

“I went to MIT and let’s just say never wage a prank war on an MIT graduate.” He laughed, causing you to groan.

“What did you do?”

As Spencer continued to tell you about his and Derek’s prank war you couldn’t help but laugh along. You couldn’t remember the last time you had this much fun, though you tried to pretend you were happy when you were with your ex you knew, if you were being honest with yourself, that you were lying. You wanted so badly to make it work that you managed to fool yourself for a long time, bending over backwards in order to please him and it still wasn’t enough. No amount of effort was enough.

But here, now, with Spencer…you felt so much better than you had in a long, long time. It was like a weight had been lifted off you, a weight you didn’t know you were still carrying. Sitting here with tears of laughter in your eyes rather than tears of anger, tears of sadness…it was a feeling you had long forgotten.

“I had a wonderful night, Y/N.''  Spencer smiled, once he had pulled back up to your house he was quick to open your car door, taking your hand delicately in his before leading you up to your door.

“Me too.” You told him sincerely. It had been so long since you’d felt this genuinely happy, you were shocked with how easy everything with Spencer was, he really did have a way of soothing your nerves, making you feel safe and calm around him, like you had known him your whole life.

You hoped that he was sincere when he said he’d had a good time because you wanted to see him again. God, did you want to see him again. Everything about him was so unique, he made it easy to be yourself, made you want to be yourself.

“Can I see you again?” He asked and you beamed up at him, the smile one that you couldn’t hide even if you tried. Spencer mirrored the expression, taking it as a good sign.

“Yeah,” you said with a giggle, Spencer's grin fading into a soft smile as he brushed a piece of hair behind your ear. “I’d really like that.”

He took a moment to just look at you, the soft light of the moon and the street lamps created an amber glow making you look beautiful.

Spencer leaned down, slowly to give you time to move, before he pressed his lips gently to your cheek, letting them linger for a moment before he pulled away.

“Goodnight Y/N.” He said softly, not wanting to break the atmosphere between you two.

“Goodnight Spencer.” You said, smiling softly and matching his tone, before turning to open your door and waving him goodbye.

You may not have saw Spencer coming into your life but you were so glad he had. As time went on and the two of you went on several more dates you could feel the armor, the walls you’d built up, beginning to fall with each conversation, each text through the day asking how you were, each night he walked you to your door, kissing you softly, each time he listened to you, each time he let you be yourself. It was so different to anything you had ever experienced before.

Right now you and Spencer were in his apartment, your head resting on his bare chest with his arm around your waist, fingers absentmindedly drawing patterns against your skin. The air was hot but a window had been opened, letting fresh cold air in.

Being with Spencer felt like the slate was clean, you never thought about your ex anymore, you didn’t feel the bone aching sadness you tried to deny, you just felt…happy. It was like being in a state of grace. Your heart was broken after the pain and suffering at the hands of your ex but being with Spencer, it was like your heart had healed itself, all the pieces slotting back together to create a mosaic heart.

You knew you were in love with him, it would be impossible not to be. Spencer Reid was everything good in this world, even though his experiences were enough to turn anybody down a dark path, he stayed good, he stayed honest, he stayed a genuinely decent person.

Here and now, listening to Spencer as he read to you, voice low, the sound of his heartbeat in your ear…you knew love could be a ruthless game, you’d been hurt before but if you played it good and right you knew this relationship could be the best thing in your life. So far everything was going great and you didn’t intend for that to change.

It was like fate had brought the two of you together, both of you had gone through so much, you with a borderline abusive relationship and Spencer with all the horrors and torments he had gone through on the job, all that and fate decided to give you a break and bring you into each other's lives.

Your relationship with Spencer was like the golden age; it was great, it was happy and it gave you both a sense of peace. Being with each other, it was easy, sure there were arguments and there were struggles but it was a worthwhile fight to end up with each other.

Spencer looked down at you, eyes closed and lashes resting upon your cheeks. You looked beautiful despite your messy hair and flushed cheeks that remained from your earlier activities in the bed. He had known how he felt about you for a long time now but he kept putting off saying it aloud, he wanted it to be perfect. He wanted everything to be a certain way when he finally said those words. It was only after a conversation with Rossi that he realised it would never be perfect, it just had to feel right to him.

And here in this bed, you tucked against his side, this was right. This was what he wanted for the rest of his life. He wanted you. And wasn’t that an overwhelming thought at first, wasn’t that a thought that drove him into Rossi’s office to begin with, utterly panicked because he had never felt like this before. But wasn’t it an amazing thought, wasn’t this what most people spent their lives only thinking about and here he was, somehow lucky enough to find you, somehow lucky enough that you wanted him too. Wasn’t it a breathtaking thought?

Spencer had paused abruptly, causing you to look up at him. He was already looking at you, his eyes soft and a smile playing at his lips. You raised your eyebrow up at him in curiosity.

“What are you thinking about, Spence?” You asked quietly, reluctant to break the peacefulness that had settled between the two of you.

Spencer remained silent for a minute, pondering whether or not he should tell you. You watched as he raised his hand, running his knuckles along your cheek softly before turning his hand so his palm could cup your cheek, his thumb running along your cheekbone.

“I love you.” He said softly, watching as your eyes widened before a smile took over your face. He could feel your entire face shift under his hand, could feel your cheeks heat at the words.

You leaned up, softly letting your lips connect with his. Spencer didn’t hesitate in kissing you back, his other hand coming up to cup your other cheek whilst your arm lay across his waist. The kiss was slow, soft lips moving against each other, the two of you completely relaxed in each other's hold.

Though the kiss was soft and slow the two of you pulled away breathless.

“I love you too.” You confessed before attaching your lips to his again, trying to convey just how much you meant those words.

Again the two of you pulled away, breathless. Spencer pulled you against him, letting his lips rest against the top of your head before he turned and let his cheek rest there instead.

“I still don’t know how I got this lucky.” Spencer told you quietly, causing you to tighten your hold on him.

“I’m the lucky one,” you chuckled, “The day I met you I had sworn off dating, I never saw you coming and I’ll never be the same again because of you.”

Spencer pulled back, looking down at you with bright, shining eyes.

“God, I love you.” He murmured before pressing his lips to yours, the complete opposite to how he had before. This kiss was like the best kind of fireworks going off all at once, it made you hot and you kissed back with as much passion as he was given.

Thankfully both of you had the day off and spent that time showing each other just how much you loved the other.

You’d never intended to fall into a relationship again, you had thought you weren’t ready, thought you were too damaged but Spencer Reid had come along exactly when you needed him and showed you how wrong you were.

Prompt - ‘But you're in London and I break down 'cause it's not fair that you're not around.’

You and Emily had never gotten along. From the day you walked into the BAU there was tension between the two of you though you hadn’t known why. As you settled into the job, becoming more comfortable around the team, your relationship with Emily became more tense as the months passed.

Nobody knew why you didn’t get along but it was common practice now for Hotch to make sure you didn’t get paired together on cases as more than one argument had occurred that meant neither of you were doing work.

Rossi had tried to get it out of you repeatedly, tried talking to you about Emily and what history you had but there was no history, before the BAU you hadn’t even heard of her. You didn’t know why she hated you or why you couldn’t stand to be around her, all you knew was that nobody knew how to push your buttons more than Emily Prentiss.

The tension between you and Emily was intense, both of you overly passionate in your arguments and that’s why it didn’t shock you the first time you fell into bed with each other. Rossi had always told you that with tension like that he was surprised that there were no underlying romantic feelings. You’d always scoffed when he said that but some part of you knew he was right, not about the romantic feelings of course but the way you and Emily got way too heated when you fought, it was only a matter of time before you turned that energy to something else.

In your defence, it had been a bad case. The unsub had been killing women that resembled you so naturally you offered to go undercover. Hotch readily agreed, there was nobody better at undercover work than you, the Undercover and Sensitive Operations Unit had been trying to poach you from the BAU for years but you turned them down every time despite loving undercover work.

It should’ve been easy but when was anything that involved the BAU easy?

They got you set up in a ground floor apartment and for the next few days you played your part as a regular citizen, going to the unsubs hunting ground in hopes of catching his attention. On the fourth day, however, another woman’s body had been found and the team had to respond to that.

You figured you hadn’t caught the unsub’s attention yet and so your guard was down but after disposing of the woman’s body, the unsub found his way to you. Nobody had profiled him to be stealthy, everything about him profiled as reckless, so when he was able to sneak up behind you and knock you out…well, the team had to refigure the profile before it was too late.

Thankfully the team managed to track you down before the unsub could really start his work, so after a few stitches in the back of the ambulance and pleading with Hotch not to send you to the hospital, you were on your way back to the hotel with the team and staying the night as it was too late to call the jet.

“You sure you’re alright, kid?” Rossi asked you from the front seat. You were sitting in the back between Derek and Spencer.

“I’m fine, Rossi, I promise.” You insisted, rolling your eyes as he shot you a look through the mirror.

It wasn’t long before you were pulling up to the hotel, the others pulling up just behind you.

“You’re rooming with Prentiss.” Hotch told you as he held a room key out towards you, bracing himself for the argument that he had no doubt was coming.

“Excuse me?” You said as the other joined you.

“Y/N,” Hotch began but you cut him off.

“Seriously, I just got kidnapped and nearly tortured and now you’re telling me I have to room with her.” You said, gesturing towards Emily with your chin before glaring up at Hotch.

“It’s one night, Y/N, and it’s already late. Just go to bed and get some sleep.” He told you as he slipped the key into your hand and walked away leaving you glaring at his back.

“Goodnight kid.” Rossi smirked whilst patting you on the back.

“I hate you all.” You grumbled before following him into the hotel missing Emily’s eye roll.

You couldn’t even remember how it happened. One minute you had been arguing with Emily and the next the two of you were frantically kissing each other, hands everywhere exploring each other's bodies, clothes were pulled off quickly and the two of you ended up sleeping with each other.

When morning came the two of you refused to acknowledge what had happened. You pushed yourself out of bed first and headed for the shower and by the time you had come out Emily and her bags were gone. You found a text from Spencer saying everyone was meeting downstairs to head to the jet and quickly packed your things away before heading down to the lobby.

The arguments hadn’t died down between you and Emily, though for the first few days after sleeping with her you avoided each other more. It would be months before you would sleep with her again but after the second time it became a regular occurrence. Anytime either of you needed to relieve some stress or if a case became too much, you found yourselves in each other's bed, never talking about it in the mornings but always knowing the offer was there.

Everything was going great until Emily had to go and talk about it.

“Are we seriously just never going to talk about this?” She asked one night.

You were at her apartment, not long back from California. It only took one glance at Emily, one nod from her, before you were climbing into her car and into her bed.

“What?” You asked, half asleep and not expecting her to strike up a conversation.

“Are we not going to talk about us?” She asked again and this time you pushed yourself up onto one elbow to look at her.

Emily had to hide a smile as you looked at her through sleepy eyes. Sometimes when you came to her, she knew it wasn’t about a case, no matter what you said, sometimes she could tell that you just needed to sleep but there was too much going on in your mind. Sex had always been a sure fire way to make sure you slept.

“Us?” You asked, feeling too tired for this conversation.

Why was she talking about ‘us’? There wasn’t an ‘us’, she hated you, she had from the minute you stepped into the BAU so why on Earth was she talking about ‘us’?

“Come on, are you really going to sit there and say you still hate me?” She asked, raising a brow at you. “We’ve been sleeping together for months now, Y/N.”

She was right, it was probably near on a year since your undercover case when you first slept together. What confused you though was the fact she said you hated her, you had never claimed to hate Emily, only mirrored her attitude towards you.

“You’re the one who hates me.” You grumbled, instead of answering, causing her to roll her eyes.

“I don’t hate you, Y/L/N,” she said like you were an idiot, “sure I argue with you but you’re the one who started this.”

“What are you talking about?” You asked, sitting up now and glaring down at her. “You’ve had it out for me since the day I started working at the BAU.”

“What are you talking about?” She asked right back. “I didn’t have it out for you. I was excited to get a new team member and you were nothing but cold towards me.”

“You’re kidding right? First day I was there all you did was posture and glare at me!” You snapped and began to make a move to get out of bed.

“Wow, ok, just wait, ok?” Emily said as she put a hand on your forearm, stopping you in your tracks. “Listen, I think, maybe, we might have gotten lost somewhere. This isn’t how I wanted this conversation to go, ok?”

You didn’t reply, instead you shook her hand off of your arm and crossed them over your chest. You didn’t make a move to leave though so Emily continued.

“I just wanted to know what this is between us, ok? You say this is just sex, fine it’s just sex but if you want something more…” She said, trailing off.

Your eyes went wide at her words. You could honestly say you hadn’t considered anything more with Emily, not thinking that there would ever be a possibility of more. Hell, half the reason for your fiery arguments was because you were jealous of how she acted with everyone else, she treated everyone else like she liked them and then when she turned to you it was like she was a different person.

“You’d want something more?” You asked, avoiding giving an answer causing her to smile.

“This isn’t about me.” She said, reaching over hesitantly and placing her hand on your knee.

“It’s as much about me as it is about you.” You shot back causing her to roll her eyes.

“Fine,” she relented, not wanting to start an argument. It would be so easy for you to argue with her now, your go to deflection when it came to each other was to argue, pointing your weapons at the others deepest hurt. “Yes, I’ll admit that lately I’ve been thinking about something more with you.” She confessed, her voice steady and confident…more confident than you felt right now.

With Emily you knew where you stood, you were meant to not like each other, you were meant to argue and fight but now she was completely rewriting the narrative and you felt out of place. Thoughts of what could be crossed your mind and you had to say you didn’t hate what you saw.

“How would we even work? I mean, I don’t think we’ve had a single conversation where we haven’t argued.” You said and Emily watched a small smile pull on your lips.

“We’re not arguing now.” She told you, causing you to roll your eyes but the smile stayed so she figured she was on the right track. “You don’t have to say anything now.” She told you softly.

You shook your head.

“You get one date to impress me, Prentiss.” You said seriously causing her to let out a laugh of disbelief before she pulled you back down onto the bed and wrapped the blanket around you.

Emily had impressed you and it wasn’t long before you were falling for her hard. You told yourself you wouldn’t get attached but it was hard when Emily was so amazing.

The arguments didn’t stop at work but they became lighter, you stopped aiming for each other's biggest weakness and instead poked fun at each other, the arguments turning into bickering.

The team had raised their eyebrows but everyone was too thankful that the arguments had stopped to bring it up, deciding that it was best to let the two of you work things out and bring it up to them. Though that didn’t stop Derek poking fun at Emily and Rossi at you.

The two of you began getting paired up together on assignments, working in harmony together causing Hotch to shake his head at the pair of you. How many times had the man told you both how well you’d get on if you just gave the other a chance? He’d lost count but surprise, surprise the man was right.

Everything was going great. You and Emily were spending most of your free time together, she took you out to dinners, movie dates, she took you to gallery exhibits and you made sure to return the favour. Though all the going out dates were amazing, the two of you were partial to staying home, cuddling on the sofa with a glass of wine and something forgotten playing on the TV as the two of you focused on nothing but each other.

Really, should you have been surprised when it came to a crashing halt?

You were all gathered at Rossi’s for JJ’s surprise wedding and you were outside with Spencer but excused yourself to go and grab a drink from inside. Just as you were about to round the corner you paused as you heard Hotch ask:

“How are you?” You heard Emily let out a sharp exhale causing Hotch to speak again, “That bad? He asked.

“What?” You heard Emily ask in confusion, causing you to smile.

“That’s your tell,” he told her and the two of them continued on like that for a moment before Hotch drew the conversation back to the original topic.

You stayed hidden, not liking the fact that you were eavesdropping but you had noticed something had been off with Emily, it had been ever since she had come back to the team but then the two of you got together and things went back to normal. However, in recent days she had been acting nervous but shrugged it off everytime you asked.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Hotch asked and you leaned closer, awaiting her response.

“Absolutely,” she said after a moment of silence, “but not now.”

“First thing tomorrow?” Hotch replied.

“It’s a date.” Emily assured him and you were quick to move when you heard footsteps.

Once Hotch had passed, making his way over to Beth, you rounded the corner and saw Emily stood alone with her drink.

“A date, huh, should I be worried?” You asked with a forced smile. Emily looked at you in surprise before smiling at you.

“Of Hotch?” She asked before shaking her head, “I wouldn’t be.”

Though she was smiling at you, you could tell her thoughts were somewhere else.

“Are you sure everything’s ok?” You asked, watching as she stayed silent before nodding.

“I’m sure.” She said before taking your hand in hers and leading you outside.

It was a beautiful ceremony but your mind was focused on Emily. You noticed the looks of concern Penelope kept shooting her and the sad expression of Derek’s face.

You wished somebody would tell you what was happening.

You dropped it for the night, not wanting to ruin the happy atmosphere from JJ’s wedding but the next day you were determined to get an answer from Emily.

“What’s wrong?” Emily asked as she entered her apartment after meeting Hotch.

“You tell me.” You shot back, not in the mood for any more deflections.

“Y/N,” She sighed, moving to come closer to you but you took a step back causing her to stop.

“Just tell me what’s going on.” You pleaded, eyes wide as you silently begged her. You watched as she sighed before nodding to herself.

“I got offered a job to run the London Interpol office.” She told you honestly, not wanting to drag this out any further. There was no delicate way to tell you but she couldn’t help but wince at her own words.

She watched as you frowned, eyebrows pulling together as you took in her words. She watched your mouth move but no words came out.

“What?” You finally spoke.

“Clyde offered me a job, running the head office. I haven’t given him an answer yet.” She told you quickly.

“But you’re going to say yes.” It should have been a question but it wasn’t, you knew Emily. If she was still thinking about this then she wanted it.

“I haven’t given him an answer yet.” She repeated, causing you to roll your eyes.

“But you’ve already made your mind up, right?” You knew she had, you knew she was going to choose this job.

“Y/N,” She pleaded but you just shook your head.

“No, it’s fine.” You said, nose scrunching as you pushed back tears, refusing to cry.

“Ever since I got back it’s been…I haven’t been able to grab onto my old life and pretend nothing happened.” She told you and you got that you really did but still you were allowed to be sad.

“You started this with me, Emily!” You yelled suddenly, fury coursing through your veins, “You started this relationship with me, I didn’t ask for this, I didn’t ask you to be with me, that was all you! And now you’re just leaving for some job in London!”

“Y/N please,” She began, she knew you were right. She hadn’t been fair to you.

“Good luck in London,” You scoffed before pushing past her and making your way out of the apartment, ignoring her calls for you.

You had told yourself at the start of this not to get attached to Emily but now as you sat alone in a bar, playing back the memories of the two of you, you could see that you had fallen hard for her…you loved her.

Weeks passed since Emily left. You didn’t say goodbye to her before she left, though she tried to contact you. You hated that you felt like this, the sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach as you sat in your empty apartment. You didn’t want to miss Emily, you didn’t want to need her.

You just wanted her to come back and be here with you.

When you were first getting together with Emily, if you had known what you knew now you never would have played so nonchalant, you would have told her that you loved her, you would have said those three words every single day.

But now she was in London, surrounded by taxi cabs and busy streets and yet none of them would bring her back to you.

You were finally on your way home from a long case, sat on the sofa watching as Spencer stared at the empty seat across from him, still reeling from losing Derek.

You missed him too. Being on this team, losing people, it was draining. You were still mourning the loss of Emily and it had been so long since you last saw her.

Hotch had taken himself off to answer a video call but you weren’t paying attention, you sat with your headphones in and looked down at your phone blocking everything out but your attention was brought back up when Hotch tapped your shoulder and gestured for you to take your headphones out.

“Huh?” You said, sitting up and turning to him.

“We have a case.” Hotch announced causing everyone to groan but before anyone could start complaining he said something that made you turn pale. “It’s Emily.”

The jet stayed silent, Hotch and Rossi glancing at you worriedly.

“What do you mean it’s Emily?” JJ asked which you were grateful for.

Hotch was quick to fill you all in on the information Emily had given him about the copy cat murderer but you were hardly paying atttention. Emily was coming back, she was going to be in New York with you.

You stayed behind the team as they entered the station, not ready to face Emily just yet. It had been so long since you last saw her and you hardly knew what to do.

“There she is!” You heard Rossi exclaim as he pulled Emily close, kissing her cheeks. You watched as a bright smile spread across her face.

She looked great.

JJ and Spencer hugged her, her smile only widening with each new person. You watched as she hugged Hotch before her attention finally settled on you.

“Y/N,” she began, feeling overwhelmed as she took you in. “Hi.”

“Nice to see you.” You said softly, playing with the hem of your jacket.

“It’s nice to see you too.” She replied, desperate to reach out to you but terrified of the response.

Hotch cleared his throat causing you both to turn away from each other.

“Rossi and JJ are heading to the crime scene,” He told her, “I’m assuming you want to join?”

Emily agreed and with one final glance at you she walked out of the door.

“What was that about?” Tara asked you, the only person on the team not aware of your relationship with Emily.

You shook your head, blinking back against the sudden wetness in your eyes before turning to Hotch. You didn’t even have to ask him if you could have a minute, he just nodded at you and told you to take as much time as you needed.

You managed a grateful smile before turning around and finding the bathroom. You locked yourself in a stall and sunk down to the floor, letting the tears flow. You hadn’t known just how hard it would be to see Emily again after all this time.

You thought you were getting over her but seeing her again, you were still so in love with her.

She might have been here in New York with you but she wasn’t staying and she wasn’t yours.

Once the case was wrapped up everyone was getting ready to head to the jet. Hotch had already told you of Emily’s decision to fly back with you all and as much as you hated the glimmer of hope you also held onto it like your life depended on it.

You didn’t speak to her on the plane and she gave you the space you needed and once you were back at the BAU she excused herself to see Penelope.

“How are you?” Hotch asked when the two of you were alone.

You sniffed before shrugging, not entirely sure how to answer that but Hotch was patient and he let you sort through your feelings before answering.

“I want to hate her,” You told him quietly, watching as he smiled sadly at you, “I want to hate her so badly. It’s her fault I fell for her in the first place. But seeing her today made me realise, I’m still in love with her, Hotch.” You confessed aloud for the first time, eyes filling with tears again and Hotch was quick to pull you into a hug.

“I don’t wanna need her this way.” You said into his chest.

“I know, I know.” Hotch said as he rubbed a comforting and grounding hand along your back. He watched as Rossi peeked into his office but shook his head causing the older man to shoot you both a sympathetic smile before leaving.

Eventually you pulled away and composed yourself, giving Hotch a forced smile before you and he made your way out of his office, joining the rest of the team in the hallway.

“We’re having family dinner,” Penelope told you, Hotch and Tara, “you in?” She asked and you wanted to say no so badly. You wanted to go home and ignore everything until Emily Prentiss was out of the country.

But another part of you wanted to go, wanted to have the chance to at least talk to her. You hated how you’d left things with her, her thinking you hated her and you not knowing how she felt about you.

You saw most of the team looking at you in concern so you plastered a smile onto your face and agreed to go.

“If somebody is paying for the alcohol, I’m there.” You said, causing them to laugh.

“Yes!” Penelope cheered, “This is happening. You get to tell me everything about Mark and by everything, I mean everything about Mark. I want all the details.”  She said and the rest of the team watched your smile falter before you took a breath and forced it back.

Penelope seemed to notice her mistake as she winced and gave you and Emily an apologetic look but you just shook your head and stepped into the elevator.

The rest followed in and it wasn’t long before you were all sitting at a table, Mexican food in front of you and it was easier than you thought it’d be. You sat between Rossi and Hotch, talking and laughing like nothing was wrong.

You took the time to steal glances at her, savouring how beautiful she looked as she laughed at whatever Penelope was saying to her.

“You should talk to her before she leaves.” Hotch said to you. You turned to face him and bit your lip before nodding.

“I know but…I don’t know how to talk to her anymore.” You admitted, hating that you didn’t really know the woman you loved anymore.

“It’ll be easier than you think.” He promised as he patted your hand and excused himself to the bathroom.

Once JJ saw Hotch leave she nodded in your direction, encouraging Emily to get up and make a move. Emily sighed, she wanted nothing more than to talk to you but after the last conversation she really wasn’t sure how it would go.

Biting the bullet, she stood up and made her way to Hotch’s seat.

“Mind if I sit here?” She asked, causing you to look up in surprise. It took you a minute to respond but eventually you nodded. “Thanks.” She said softly, giving you a small smile.

The rest of the table continued chatting, not wanting to make things more awkward for the two of you.

Emily didn’t know where to start, she had dreamed of seeing you again for so long and now she had the chance and she was blowing it.

Thankfully you started the conversation but the topic made Emily wince.

“So Mark, huh?” You asked when the silence became unbearable. Rossi, who was sitting next to you, had to hold back a snort of laughter at your bluntness.

“What about Mark?” Emily asked, unsure of how you were going to take the fact she had a boyfriend.

“Nothing, nothing,” You said with a shrug, “just never really pictured you with a Mark.” You told her, nose scrunched in disgust causing her to smile.

“Nothing, it’s just…Mark? Really?” That was the ice breaker the two of you needed and by the time Hotch was sliding into Emily’s seat the two of you were leaning into each other’s personal space, talking and laughing with each other.

It was the happiest the team had seen you in a long time.

“So,” You asked during a lull in conversation, “when do you leave?”

“Tomorrow morning.” She told you quietly.

“You can’t stay longer?” You asked and there was a brief pause where Emily looked at you, an unreadable expression on her face. “Not for me, of course. For the team, they miss you.”

“Of course.” Emily agreed. “I miss them too but you know, I gotta get back…Mark and all.”

“Ah, Mark.” You said with a nod causing her to smile sadly.

After that Penelope captured Emily’s attention and she got swept into a conversation with the other girls. You were able to leave the table without them noticing and headed outside, not noticing Rossi following behind you.

He took one look at you and pulled you into his arms.

“I’m ok,” you assured him after a while, pulling away from him.

“I know you are.” Rossi said, causing you to smile. “You’re tough but you’re allowed to miss her.”

“I think I’m gonna head home.” You told him after a moment of silence.

“You want me to drive you?” He asked but you shook your head.

“No please, stay. I’ll see you tomorrow.” You said and made to leave, before you turned the corner though you turned back to Rossi, “Thank you.” You called, causing him to smile at you before waving you off.

You hadn’t been asleep long when the knock on your door came. You groaned, cursing whoever it was as they wouldn’t stop banging.

You pulled yourself out of bed, not caring about your appearance, and pulled the door open. Before you had time to register who it was, a pair of soft lips connected with yours in a desperate kiss.

Watching her leave again somehow hurt more this time around, probably because you had both admitted you loved each other but it still wasn’t enough. You still weren’t enough for her to stay.

You just wanted her to come back to you.

Once he was satisfied with how much you had drank, he let you lay down and it wasn’t long before he was climbing into bed with you and pulling you into his arms.

“Goodnight Y/N.” He said softly, placing a kiss to your forehead before letting himself fall asleep.

From that night on you and Aaron continued to sleep with each other. The morning after the first night he had sat you down and explained how this couldn’t be anything more than friends with benefits, how even this was risking a lot but neither of you could only let this be a one night thing.

The two of you had sex multiple times a week, sometimes even in his office, blinds shut and door locked, you biting into his shoulder to keep quiet. It wasn’t even a choice anymore, you couldn’t have put a stop to this if you tried. You were too far gone now and each time the two of you spent time together, you found yourself falling further and further for him. The sex was increible, god was it incredible, but there was also the stuff afterwards, when he would hold you close, whispering soft nothings as he kissed your hair. The nights where he would cook you dinner or pull you aside if a case was getting bad, offering you a shoulder if needed.

Sometimes you found yourself, in the early hours when both of you were spent, contemplating whether you should tell him how you felt but you couldn't, you knew if he knew how you felt he would put a stop to this. He wouldn’t want to feel like he was leading you on and you couldn’t lose this, couldn’t lose him. You’d take him anyway you could get him, it was a treacherous slope but one that you decided to head down, knowing now that there was no way out of this.

So whilst his name echoed through your mind all day, you knew it was your own fault. Aaron had been clear from the get go what this was, what this could only ever be. You were the one who started falling and as much as you wanted him for yourself you knew it wasn’t an option.

Falling for Aaron Hotchner wasn’t a conscious choice but if this was the only way you could have him, a secret to be kept behind closed doors, then it might have hurt but it didn’t mean you didn’t like it, you still got to be with him in some sense and maybe one day you’d be brave enough to ask him to stay with you but until then you’d continue on this reckless path and grasp onto any moment you had with Aaron.

Prompt - ‘It feels like the perfect night for breakfast at midnight.’

Notes - happy new year!! (this was supposed to be uploaded yesterday but tumblr broke again)

When Rossi informed you that he was hosting a New Year’s Eve party you couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. Lately everything had been piling up, deadline after deadline, meeting after meeting, everything fell all at once and you found yourself constantly two steps behind where you needed to be.

Thankfully you had managed to get on top of things for the time being, though you still had a to-do list that was way too long.

A David Rossi party was exactly what you needed right now. A chance to dress to the nines, have your hair and makeup done for once instead of rolling out of bed ten minutes before your morning class or thirty minutes before your shift started.

It was a chance to forget about everything for the night. A chance to forget about the stress of essays and research, a chance to forget about the heartbreak of your last breakup that still followed you around despite how hard you tried to push it away. It was a chance to have fun.

When New Year’s Eve finally rolled around you couldn’t help but smile as you woke up with something to look forward to. Today was the first time in as long as you could remember that you were doing something fun and weren’t holed up in the library with piles of research books.

You’d bought a new outfit for the occasion, nothing in your closet seemed appropriate for Rossi’s party. It was fun and you couldn’t help but smooth your hands down the fabric as you looked in the mirror, makeup perfectly applied thanks to the artist, you looked amazing.

A buzz at your door had you quickly throwing your shoes on and grabbing a small bag before you headed out of your apartment. You couldn’t help but laugh as you saw the limounse Rossi had sent, it looked so out of place in this run down part of town.

You thanked the driver as he opened the door for you and it wasn’t long until you were pulling up at Rossi’s.

The front door was open and the party seemed to be getting started if the amount of people already there was any indication. Everybody seemed to get the dress code memo as they all looked incredible. Rossi had gone all out on the decorations too, sparing no expenses.

You made your way further into the house, plucking a glass of something from one of the waiters as you looked around the room. You were definitely one of the younger people there and other than Rossi you had a feeling you wouldn’t know many other people but that didn’t bother you.

“Y/N!” A voice called causing you to turn around. You smiled as you saw Rossi making his way over to you, a grin on his own face. “Oh, it’s so good to see you, kiddo.” He said when he was close enough, pressing his lips to your cheeks before pulling you into a hug.

You let yourself sink into the hug and if you squeezed him slightly tighter than usual, well who was judging? Rossi knew you were having a rough few months, from the breakup with the douchebag he had never liked to your ever growing work pile. He was glad you agreed to come tonight so easily because he had planned on getting you here one way or another.

Besides, there was somebody he had to introduce you to.

“Hi Dave.” You beamed up at him when the two of you finally pulled away, Rossi’s arm staying around your shoulder as he led you out of the room and into the garden, all the while chatting away and asking you questions. You were relieved that you could finally tell him things were better.

“There’s some people I want to introduce you to,” He told you before smirking, “one in particular actually.” You watched him smirk and rolled your eyes.

“Dave,” You began with an over exaggerated sigh, “I came here to have fun not for you to set me up.”

Rossi couldn’t help but laugh, not having a chance to respond as the group turned at the sound, smiling over at the pair of you.

“Everybody this is Y/N, kid you know Aaron and this is Derek, JJ, Emily, Penelope and this here is our very own genius Doctor Spencer Reid.” Everybody smiled and waved at the introductions and there was no mystery as to which one Rossi was trying to set you up with.

You smiled back, watching as Spencer smiled bashfully at being the only one singled out and you couldn’t help but think he was cute, not that Rossi would ever hear you admit it.

“So how do you two know each other?” JJ asked.

“Yeah Rossi, she’s a bit too young to be wife number seven.” Derek grinned causing everybody to laugh.

“Three wives,” Rossi said, wagging his finger at the group, “three wives is a very reasonable number. As for Y/N,” Here Rossi paused looking at you and giving you the chance to tell the story or change the version of events.

You smiled at him, thankful for the chance but these people were his team and they had all seen the type of things that had happened to you on a daily basis.

“I met Rossi before he retired from the BAU, one of his final cases actually.” You told them, giving the nod to Rossi that he could take over.

“The unsub was killing families and Y/N’s was the last family he targeted, from there he went off script and took the kid.” Rossi gave your shoulder a squeeze and you leaned into him.

It still hurt to think of them, of course it did. It hurt to think of what that man had done to them and to you but eventually it got easier to deal with. After Rossi had got to you before the unsub could do much more damage he extended his stay, taking vacation time he had never used, and stayed with you everyday as you recovered in the hospital. He was the reason you weren’t so afraid anymore, without him you don’t know how far you would’ve gotten.

There were murmurs of apologies and sympathetic looks which you brushed off with a wave of your hand.

“It was a long time ago. I’m just glad I had you.” You said, leaning your head against Rossi’s shoulder, missing the soft look that spread across his face before he placed a kiss on your head.

“Well now that that’s out of the way,” Rossi spoke, “Who’s ready to drink?”

The cheers he got in return were all that were needed to get things started.

You were surprised at how easily you fit in with the team, though the drinks probably, definitely, helped with that. To begin with you had stuck to Rossi’s side but eventually you found yourself relaxing and it wasn’t long before the girls took notice and you were pulled over to their sofa and were taking shots with them, laughing all the while.

Eventually you felt the room spin and you were ready to sit the next few rounds out. You stood up before stumbling over to one of the emptier sofa’s that your group occupied and sat down on it, not taking note of who else was there.

“You okay?” A voice asked softly, causing you to look up and see Spencer looking at you with a smile.

You hummed as you sat back, letting your head hit the back of the soft as you smiled back at him, eyes closed to fight against the dizziness. You didn’t feel the sofa shift as Spencer stood up and didn’t take note of how long he was gone for but the next time you opened your eyes Spencer was holding a cold glass of water out towards you.

“You should drink.” He told you, smiling as you shook your head. “One of the reasons you’re feeling dizzy right now is because of the dehydration. Even though you're drinking, alcohol actually doesn’t hydrate you so it’s best if you drink water in between drinks. Also, it’ll help with the hangover you’re going to have tomorrow.” He grinned at you as you looked at him through squinted eyes.

It took a couple more seconds before you took the water with a scrunch of your nose but after the first few sips you ended up happily gulping the drink down, feeling much better already.

“Huh, you really are a genius.” You told him, enjoying the quiet laugh you got in return.

“So they tell me.” He chuckled as he took the glass off you to place on the table.

“You’re not drunk?” You asked him. You’d taken note of the fact that even though he was drinking he was taking it easier than the rest of you. Whilst you and the girls had done way too many shots and Hotch, Derek and Rossi were making their way through a scotch that probably cost more than your apartment, Spencer was still nursing his second drink of the night.

“I don’t really drink.” He told you, watching as you nodded.

As the two of you continued to talk you missed Hotch, Derek and Rossi watching you with matching smiles. For months now Rossi had been trying to hatch a plan to introduce you to Spencer but with your workload it hadn’t happened. Now as he watched the two of you shift closer to each other, heads bent down and talking so softly none of them could hear the words, he knew he’d made the right call.

You and Spencer spent most of the night on the sofa, chatting away and getting to know each other. The cold air and water was definitely helping and you didn’t feel quite so drunk so you were able to enjoy the soft conversation and retain the information he was giving you.

“Oh, oh, quick everybody!” Both you and Spencer startled as Penelope exclaimed loudly, pulling you out of your own little bubble. “The countdown is starting! You’re mine, Derek Morgan.” She grinned, raising her eyebrows at him.

“Oh baby girl, you best believe I’ve been waiting all year for this kiss.” He grinned right back at her.

“It’s midnight?” Spencer murmured, shocked at how fast time had seemed to move as he spoke to you, trying to learn as much as he could about you.

“Hell yeah it’s midnight pretty boy.” Derek said, causing you to giggle. Spencer looked over at you with a smile as he stood up, ready to follow the rest of the team to the living room for the ball drop.

He held a hand out of you, something which didn’t go unnoticed by the team even with all the alcohol in their system, but you were oblivious to the looks as you took his hand and let him lead you to the living room, neither of you letting go.

Spencer managed to grab two flutes of champagne just as people started counting down from ten, handing it to you.

“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year!” With that people erupted into cheers, couples around you were kissing, friends embraced each other and you were surprised to find you didn’t feel the least bit lonely.

You would have thought that after the break up, after the stress and isolation of the last few months you would have felt so lonely reigning in the New Year but right now, Rossi to your side and Spencer’s hand in yours it was hard to imagine being lonely.

“Happy New Year, Y/N,” Spencer said softly, barely heard above the music and cheers but as his lips pressed to your cheek you heard them perfectly.

“Happy New Year, Spencer.” You replied just as quietly, a smile you couldn’t fight back on your face as he pulled away.

Spencer was pulled out of the bubble the two of you created once more as Derek threw an arm around him.

“You got a kiss for me, pretty boy?” He grinned, taking great delight in watching Spencer flush.

Your smile got even wider if it were at all possible even as you tried to wipe it off your face as Rossi wrapped his own arm around your shoulders, pulling you close and kissing your temple.

“Happy New Year, kiddo. Something tells me you’re gonna have a lot to thank me for this year.” He smirked, eyes darting from Spencer to you.

You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help but hope he was right. Judging by the shy smile Spencer gave you at the words he had overheard, he wanted it too.

“Pancakes!” Penelope yelled randomly causing everyone to look at her. “I want pancakes!”

“Where-“ JJ hiccuped, “where even does pancakes at midnight?”

You watched Penelope’s smile fall as nobody spoke up.

“I know a place.” You finally said, causing Penelope’s head to snap around to you, grin firmly back in place as she made her way over to you.

“You’re my new best friend.” She declared, ignoring the protests from the others.

It wasn’t long before the lot of you were piling into one of the many cars waiting out front, Spencer grabbing your hand gently and sitting you down next to him. He didn’t know what it was about you, usually he hesitated to touch even the people closest to him but with you he didn’t even think about it.

Your hand in his felt right, his lips against your cheek had felt right. There was something about you he so desperately wanted to know and he could only hope that you wanted to know him too.

As you all sat around a table, various chairs having to be dragged over to accommodate the group, you couldn’t help but smile. You felt so comfortable around these people, each of them welcoming you in without any hesitation. The table was filled with so many different breakfast foods, fireworks could be heard in the distance and as Spencer took your hand in his once more you couldn’t help but think that this was going to be a good year.

Febuwhump Prompt - failed rescue attempt

Prompt - ‘I hate to make everything about me but what am I supposed to do without you?’

You were still half asleep as you stumbled onto the jet, flopping down into the seat next to Hotch, letting your head rest upon his shoulder. Hotch looked down at you, face softening as he watched you close your eyes. By the time the rest of the team had trailed onto the jet you were fast asleep against Hotch.

The plane ride was only a short one so by the time you were in the air Hotch was gently shaking you awake, you groaning as you turned your face further into his shoulder before pulling away and rubbing at your eyes.

“Morning princess.” Derek grinned, way too energetically for four in the morning. You glared at him as Hotch nudged you and pressed the tablet into your hands, information already loaded up for you just as Garcia’s voice filled the jet.

“Police just responded to the scene of another body, same markings on the victim.” She told you all, causing you to look down at your notes to see the markings she spoke of.

You raised an eyebrow as you saw each woman had three crosses carved into their skin, one large one on their chests and then small ones on each inner arm. As well as that there was a diagonally cut along their face starting from the temple right down to their jaws.

“The crosses seem to be done post mortem, they’re too clean and haven’t scabbed over whereas the cut to the faces seem to be done whilst the victims are alive if the jaggedness and blood pattern is anything to go by.” Spencer informed everyone as you continued to skim through the information.

So far three bodies had been found, four now including the latest victim, all found spread out in public places. You looked up just in time to see Rossi and Hotch glance at you before sharing a look with each other but when you raised a questioning eyebrow at Hotch he just shook his head.

“Tell them to leave the body as it is, Garcia, we’ll be there soon.” With that Garcia disconnected the video call leaving you all to look through the notes and talk about potential unsubs.

“Y/N I want you with me at the latest crime scene. JJ, Dave head down to the station and see what they have, Reid go with them and see if you can narrow down the geographical profile. Morgan, Prentiss go to the lab and see if they have anything for us yet.” Hotch instructed as the jet landed and you all headed your separate ways.

As you and Hotch walked the crime scene, trying to figure out how somebody could plant and position a body without being caught even considering the early hour, you felt uneasy. Your head whipped around as you surveyed the scene but other than the press and officers nobody was there.

“You ok?” Hotch asked as he watched you look around.

“Huh?” You questioned, turning back to him with a shake of your head, “Yeah, I’m fine.” You told him, forcing a smile on your face as he nodded and turned back to the body.

You glanced around once more before doing the same.

It wasn’t long before you were all at the station, nothing coming up from your walk at the crime scene, Morgan and Prentiss hadn’t found out much from the ME. The only person who had had some luck was Spencer who was gesturing to different places on the map and rambling on about the most likely places the unsub could be.

You felt bad for zoning it out but geographical profiles had never been your forte. Instead you turned your attention to Hotch who was listening to Spencer whilst rubbing his temple, trying to push away an oncoming headache.

You stood up and headed out of the room, Hotch turning to you as you did but you weren’t gone long, heading out to the kitchen area to pour yourself and Hotch a drink. Hotch shot you an appreciative smile as he brought the cup to his lips.

“So all we know is that the unsub is somewhere in that area and is consistent in victimology and that only gets us so far, short of looking the same these girls are as different as you could get.” Derek said as he threw his folder onto the table.

“He’s right, they never went to school together, never shopped at the same stores, hell I doubt these girls had anything connecting them.” Emily said.

“There’s something we’re missing, get Garcia to keep looking into them.” Hotch ordered as he stood up to take a call.

“Reid, are you able to pinpoint anything about where he’s finding these girls?” Rossi asked, leaning back in his chair and fiddling with a pen.

It was only hours later that you were informed of another body. You, Spencer, Derek and Hotch headed to the scene to see if you could find anything useful. It was more than obvious that the unsub was devolving, two bodies in one day. The crosses on the latest victim were clearly done when she was alive, all of them jagged and messy.

As Spencer and Hotch examined the body and Morgan interviewed the woman who had found the body you looked around and noticed an alleyway not too far from the body, it seemed like the only place that an unsub would have half a chance at not being caught from.

You glanced back to the others and saw they were still busy so shrugged and headed over, with the way this case was going it was probably just another deadend. But yet when you headed into the alleyway you got the same feeling you did at the last crime scene, you felt uneasy as the hairs on your neck stood up, a shiver running down your spine as you looked around but nothing was there.

As you turned to leave you came face to face with a man much taller than you and before you had the chance to scream or pull your gun he immediately smothered your face with a rag. You tried not to breathe in but were forced to and it wasn’t long before you slumped against the man who wore a sleazy grin.

“What do you mean she's gone?” Hotch snapped as Derek informed him you were nowhere to be found.

“I don’t know man, she’s not here.” He watched as Hotch stepped away, pulling his phone out and listening for a ringtone to sound from somewhere around him but it never came. The car was still here and there weren’t many places you could go.

“Get Garcia to track her location,” Hotch said to Derek, “Now.”

The tone of Hotch’s voice had Derek obeying the order instantly, no flirting with Garcia as he snapped at her to do what he asked.

“It’s off.” Garcia told him with fear running through her veins.

“What?” Hotch snapped into the phone that was now on speaker.

“It’s not on, I can’t track it.” Garcia repeated, her thoughts spiralling.

Hotch bit back a series of curses as his team and the officers looked to him for guidance and he hated that he didn’t have an answer.

They somehow ended up at the station, each of them trying to create a profile that would lead them to you. Hotch paced up and down an empty interview room, hair messed up as he continued to run his fingers through it cursing himself for letting you come along to the crime scene in the first place.

“You need to calm down.” Rossi told him as he entered the room.

“Calm down?” Hotch questioned with a look of disbelief, “Calm down?! It’s my fault she got taken and you want me to calm down?”

“It’s not your fault.” Rossi told him, voice even despite the worry he felt for you. Somebody had to keep a level head and it clearly wasn’t going to be Hotch.

“Not my fault? Dave, she matched the unsub’s victimology, I knew that and I still let her come to both crime scenes, I never shou-” Here Hotch cut himself off as he remembered something.

“What is it?” Rossi asked, following Hotch out of the room as he stormed over to the one the team had been given.

“Get Garcia on the phone.” He demanded and his order was fulfilled in seconds, Garcia’s worried voice filling the room.

“What can I do?” She asked.

“I need you to pull up video footage from the McAdams crime scene,” He told her, mind racing.

“On it, what am I looking for?” The sound of typing filled the room as Hotch thought back to the look on your face.

“The unsub was at the crime scene. Y/N knew it, she knew he was there.” Hotch told them.

“She knew the unsub was there?” JJ asked.

“She didn’t know who it was but she knew something wasn’t right. The look on her face-” Hotch trailed off as Rossi led him to an empty seat.

Nothing any of them said would stop the man blaming himself, not until he had Y/N back.

The team sat in silence as Garcia flipped through footage after footage desperately looking for anything that would help lead the team to you, trying not to think about what the man was doing to you right now.

It took near on forty minutes of scrolling through video feeds before Garcia found something. It wasn’t the clearest footage but the guy definitely gave her the creeps.

“Sir, I think I found him.” Garcia said, causing Hotch to sit straighter in seat as he stared at the phone waiting for her to continue. “If you’ll direct your attention to your tablets,” she said as she sent the blurry images to all of them. “I’m working on making it clearer and getting a face ID as we speak.”

“Fast as you can, Garcia.” Hotch ordered.

“Yes sir, I’ll let you know when I’ve got something.” Because she would get something, no way was she letting anything bad happen to you.

Hotch was a mess as he paced around the small room, setting everybody's nerves even further on edge, if it were possible. They hadn’t seen Hotch this worried for as long as they could remember. The only thing running through everyone’s mind was that they had to find you.

Everybody’s attention turned to Hotch as his phone pinged.

“Aaron?” Rossi asked, standing up as he watched his friend pale drastically. “Hey, whoa, take a seat.” He said, watching as the man’s legs turned to jelly and pushed him into a chair.

As he took the phone from Hotch he saw exactly what had caused the reaction, there you were, strapped to a chair with a cross carved onto your chest, blood pouring from the wound as tears fell down your cheeks.

“We have to find her.” Hotch said quietly, his own eyes filled with tears as the image of you burnt into his mind.

“We will.” Rossi told him before turning to the team, “Call Garcia, tell her to track the phone.”

With some luck Garcia managed to get a location on you before the phone was switched off again. The unsub was hiding away in an abandoned warehouse thirty minutes away from them.

Hotch drove like a mad man, with the way the unsub was going he wasn’t sure if you had thirty minutes. He pushed that thought out of his head as he blinked back tears and tightened his grip on the wheel.

He couldn’t think like that. He couldn’t because then he’d have to think about everything he would regret, the number one thing on that list would be not telling you how he felt about you. How you were one of the few good things in his life and how he never wanted to be without you. He’d regret not taking the risk, not crashing his lips into yours.

He thought back to all the dinners the two of you had together or the times you spent the night at his place, nothing ever happening but sometimes cases got too much for you and you needed somebody safe. You had told him he was your safe place and he still hadn’t bit the bullet and kissed you. He should have told you then and there he was in love with you, how every time he pictured his future you were always there with him, at his side.

He swore to himself he’d tell you now.

They arrived at the warehouse, blue and red lights lighting the place up as everybody stepped out of their cars, guns drawn as they split up and entered. Hotch had done plenty of rescue missions before but this one was different, this one was you.

They weren’t prepared for the size of the place, more rooms than they could count and you could be in any one of them. Hotch felt himself going crazy as they opened door after door only to find nothing.

“Hotch,” Derek’s voice sounded in his ear, “You need to get here quick,” He was told the room number and that was it.

Hotch practically sprinted across the warehouse, fear flooding through him as Derek refused to tell him whether you were ok or not. He pushed through the door, Spencer and JJ right behind him, before freezing, the other two barely stopping themselves from crashing into him.

Because there you were on the floor, medics surrounded you as they performed CPR in a desperate attempt to get any sign of life from you.

Hotch staggered backwards, knees giving out as he fell to the floor. Derek made his way over but what could he do? They all watched on as the medics continued working on you, the blood loss was way too much though.

One medic shook their head causing Hotch to let out a sob as two other medics brushed past the group and it wasn’t long before you were being carried out to the ambulance.

“I’m going with her.” Hotch said as he tried to climb into the ambulance but was pushed away by one of the medics.

“I’m sorry sir but you can’t.” She said with a sympathetic look.

“I’m going with her.” He repeated harshly, Derek placing a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to calm him down but he shook it off.

“Agent, I’m going to be honest with you she might not even survive the ride to the hospital, the only people in that ambulance are going to be her and the people who might be able to save her life, you wanna stand here and continue this conversation or can I go and save your girlfriends life?” She asked bluntly, she felt sorry for the man but there wasn’t time for this argument. “Meet us at the hospital.” Were the last words said before the ambulance doors closed and the sirens sounded.

“She has to be ok.” Hotch said to himself.

“It’s Y/N, she’s gonna be fine.” Derek told him but all that blood had him doubting his own words.

It wasn’t long before they arrived at the hospital, forced into a private waiting room and offered no information. Hotch couldn’t sit still and instead opted to pace the length of the waiting room praying to anybody that would listen that you would be ok, you had to be because he didn’t know what he was supposed to do if you weren’t.

Four hours later a nurse finally came out to see the group of anxious agents. Hotch immediately turned towards him begging for some good news but the look on his face had Hotch’s blood turning cold.

“I’m sorry,” he started and Hotch just about felt his world end, “She’s still in surgery. Her heart stopped three times but we managed to get a heartbeat. It’s still weak and unsteady but it’s there. I can’t make any promises to you but for the moment she’s stable and we’re doing all we can to help her pull through.”

Hotch didn’t know how to react and felt himself collapse into a plastic chair, the nurse giving him a sympathetic look before leaving.

“She’s doing well, Aaron.” Rossi said, taking a seat next to him.

“She died, three times. They don’t know if she’s going to make it.” Hotch said, his voice breaking as tears fell down his face because saying it outloud made it real. “I can’t lose her Dave.”

“She’s a strong kid, she’ll pull through.” Was all Rossi said before the waiting room fell silent again.

“Hey baby girl.” Derek said as he stood up to hug Garcia, both of them needing it right now,

“How is she?” She asked anxiously, sniffing slightly.

“No news yet.” Spencer said quietly from his seat.

“How’s he?” She asked just as quietly gesturing over to Hotch who sat alone in the corner of the room.

“He’s not doing so well.” Emily said, smiling sadly at her boss.

Everybody knew how Hotch felt about you, it wasn’t the best kept secret. Hell, even you knew how he felt and they all knew you felt the same. The only reason you hadn’t acted on it was because you didn’t know if he would be willing to start a relationship with you as his subordinate. As far as the rest of the team was concerned the two of you had been dating for years, you had dinners together, you slept at his place more than your own at this point and on rare days off you still spent your time with each other.

Everybody knew both of you were crazy for each other and watching Hotch not know if he was going to have the chance to tell you how he felt himself was breaking their hearts.

Fourteen hours later a tired doctor stepped through the doors of the waiting room. Everybody turned their attention to him as they waited anxiously to hear anything about you.

“She’s stable,” He told them, smiling softly at the collective sigh of relief that spread throughout the room. “You were told she flatlined three times, correct? Unfortunately she crashed once more but we were able to get a heartbeat. I can’t make promises but as of right now she’s looking good. Obviously we’re going to keep her for at least a week, though that could be longer if things go downhill but I’ll make sure you’re all kept up to date.”

“Thank you so much, doc.” Derek said and everybody else echoed the sentiment.

“Can we see her?” Hotch asked and the doctor gave him a sympathetic look, the man looked like he’d been through hell.

“One of you can,” He agreed, really nobody should but the man looked like he needed to see her and hear a heart machine confirm she was alive, “For five minutes.”

The rest of the team nodded at Hotch who mouthed a thank you to them before he followed the doctor out of the room and over to you.

When the doctor pushed the door open Hotch froze as he saw all the different tubes and wires attached to you, helping you stay alive. His eyes filled with tears as he made his way into the room and sat down in the chair next to you, carefully taking your hand in his and bringing his mouth down to press a kiss to your knuckles.

“You’re going to be ok, Y/N/N,” He told you, eyes on the heart monitor that showed a weak but beating heart rate. “You have to be ok because I have so much to tell you but the most important thing you have to know is that I love you,” He told you, tears falling down his cheeks, “I love you so much, baby. You’ve got to get better so I can tell you that.”

He looked up when he heard a knock at the door, the doctor giving him a sympathetic look. Hotch nodded at him before standing and taking one last look at you, gently leaning over and placing a barely there kiss on your forehead.

“I love you.” And with that he made his way back to the waiting room.

It was four days before there was any movement from you and then they wished they never heard anything. Alarms sounded and the team watched as a flock of doctors and nurses made their way into your room but despite the open door they couldn’t see what was happening.

“Chest compression now, she’s going into cardiac arrest!”

Those words sent a sliver of ice down everybody’s spine, Hotch staring wide eyed at the door, not daring to take his eyes off it like that would somehow help you.

“Defibrillator!” Another doctor called and then he was counting before they shocked you, “Nothing, again!” “Clear!” “Again!”

The words merged into each other as Hotch leaned against the wall for support, his own heart beating out of his chest as he heard them continue to shout how there was nothing.

“We have a pulse!” One doctor finally called and Hotch sobbed, Rossi barely catching him as his knees gave out and pulled him into a tight hug.

“She’s being transferred into the ICU,” the doctor informed them after several hours had passed, “we’ve put her into an induced coma to allow the body to heal but she should be awake in the next two days.”

Those two days seemed to drag, there was no news about you but at this point no news was good news. Everybody else left and came back to the hospital but Hotch had yet to leave once, refusing to leave you alone here even if you weren’t aware of where you were or his presence.

He barely slept and was on edge the whole time you were in the coma, dreading every time a nurse or doctor came close to the waiting room.

“Agent Hotchner,” the doctor greeted as he stepped in, it was still early and the others were back at the hotel.

“Doctor Smith, how is she?” He asked, dread filling his stomach but then the doctor smiled and he felt a weight fall of his shoulders at the words -

“She’s awake.”

Hotch just about kept himself upright as he was led to your room, letting out a sob as he saw you awake through the window.

“Before you go in there’s some things I have to tell you,” the doctor said, Hotch nodding as he did, “she’s going to be extremely weak and tired for a while, her body has been through a lot of trauma in a short space of time. Give her time. I can’t promise you she’s out of the woods yet but we’re doing everything we can. The only advice I can give you is spend as much time with her as you can.”

And with those comforting words the doctor patted Hotch’s shoulder and walked away.

Hotch took a deep breath before he stepped forward and entered your room, smiling at you as your eyes flickered over to him. He made his way around to the chair next to your bed, taking your hand gently in his, careful of the needle.

“It’s so good to see you awake.” He said, leaning down to kiss your hand.

He watched as you gave him a weak smile and a barely there squeeze of the hand. It was the best thing he’d seen in his life, he thought as he choked back a sob.

“I’m so proud of you,” He told you, “You’re doing so well.”

You felt your lip quiver as you took in his words, your body was aching despite all the drugs in your system. Everything hurt but Hotch was here, Hotch made everything better.

You slowly managed to squeeze his hand again, watching as he smiled down at your joined hands.

“You’re going to be out of here before you know it, yeah?” He asked, watching as you blinked tiredly at him. “We can go to that new restaurant that just opened and then maybe see if there are any good movies on?”

You tried to smile but you’re pretty sure all that happened was a brief purse of your lips but you watched Hotch’s face light up anyway.

Hotch continued to talk about all the things the two of you could do once you got better and you couldn’t think of a better way to fall asleep.

It was a while before you were finally discharged from the hospital, the rest of the team had been forced back to Quantico but Hotch took every bit of holiday time he had and used it to stay with you. Thankfully since your cardiac arrest you had been doing better though you still felt drained more often than not and had a few problems with dizzy spells but the doctors had explained how that was normal after both the cardiac arrest and blood loss.

You and Hotch had to stay in a hotel for three extra weeks as you weren’t cleared to fly until then. In the meantime Hotch and you shared a room, it was easier that way for him to check on you and honestly you didn’t want to be alone right now and Hotch was the only person you wanted to be with.

The two of you lay on the bed, his arms wrapped around you, holding you close as you rested your head on his chest. It was only early, around five pm, and despite the nap before you could still barely keep your eyes open.

“I’m so glad you’re ok.” Hotch murmured suddenly into the silence causing you to look up at him. “There were so many times I thought that was it, that you were gone and I just- I couldn’t-” He cut himself off, blinking back tears as he tightened his hold on you slightly.

“I’m ok.” You reminded him softly.

“You’re ok,” He repeated, “I can’t lose you, Y/N and this isn’t exactly how I wanted to tell you but I think we’ve waited long enough,” He told you with a chuckle, causing you to smile up at him softly. “I love you, Y/N, so much. I can’t picture my life with anybody else and honestly, I don’t want to, I just want you.”

Your smile widened as you listened to his words.

“I love you too, Aaron. I don’t want to picture my life with anybody else either.” You told him softly, shifting slightly so you were looking up at him and Aaron took that as all the permission needed to lean down and softly brush your lips together.

It was a kiss long overdue but neither of you rushed it, both content to show how you felt for each other in soft, slow movements, Hotch’s hands cupping your face as you smiled into the kiss.

When Hotch pulled away he didn’t go far, leaning his forehead against yours.

“I love you so much, sweetheart.”

“I love you too.” You smiled before leaning up to capture his lips again.

As far as rescue missions go, it wasn’t the greatest but the ending was pretty great.

Febuwhump Prompt - Forced to Watch

Prompt - ‘Believe me, if I could take your place I would do it without a second thought.’

The basement was dark and cold, every bone in your body ached and blood poured out of open wounds, you could feel some slip down your face from where your head had been smashed against the floor. You were certain your leg was broken, the hammer connecting with it more times than you could count as you sobbed and screamed, your throat sore after hours of screaming.

The unsub cackled from somewhere above you as he let his boots connect with your ribs again and again. You knew they were broken too, could feel the pain as you breathed in, a rib poking into something it shouldn’t as you continued to cry out in pain.

You knew Spencer was in the room somewhere but you refused to look at him, you couldn’t look at him. You knew it would feel worse if you looked at him, your pain would be mirrored on his face and you couldn’t…you just couldn’t.

It should have been a simple visit to question somebody who may have come into contact with the unsub and instead you’d stumbled across the unsub himself, a man neither you nor your team has suspected.

The man, a man in his mid thirties, had been taking couples, snatching two people easily in broad daylight, keeping them for a day and dumping the bodies at night in public places. The women were always the worst, naked and tortured whilst the man remained fully clothed and killed by a single gunshot wound to the head.

You knew the men had been forced to watch whatever torture the unsub inflicted on the women but living through it yourself was worse than whatever you had imagined at the first crime scene.

Could they not look at their partners too or did they seek their gaze, seek comfort and false hope from it?

You couldn’t look at Spencer, you couldn’t watch as he watched you, watch as his emotions played out clearly on his face as you continued to take the full force of the man’s rage. Spencer had tried to direct the man’s anger and attention to him, desperately had tried to be the one getting tortured but you’d shook your head at him because, despite the absolute pain and agony you were in, Spencer had been through too damn much and you were not letting him get tortured for you.

God, where the hell was Hotch?

You and Spencer had been gone for what felt like hours, surely somebody must have realised you were gone by now, surely somebody must have pieced together who the unsub was. Yet you heard no movement in the house, no sirens from outside, nothing but the sounds of your own screams and cries as the unsub brought a knife up to your skin and dug it in before dragging it to create a deep wound that blood freely poured from.

“Stop!” Spencer yelled and you could hear his cries, the desperation in his voice. You could hear the clatter of his handcuffs against the metal post he was tied to, as he tried to free himself without success. “Please, just stop! Leave her alone!”

Spencer’s begs and pleads seemed to do nothing to deter the unsub, if anything it seemed to please him, seemed to make him slice harder, kick harder and each time he did you let out more and more cries, choking as you struggled for breath, desperately praying that somebody would hurry up and figure it out.

Some of the best profilers in the damn country and they can’t piece this together.

You don’t know how long the next round of kicks and slices went on for but eventually the lightheadedness from the blood loss became too much and you let your eyes fall closed, the last thing you heard was Spencer’s desperate cries for you to wake up.

The annoying sound of a steady heart monitor was the first thing you heard when you finally became conscious again, keeping your eyes closed, not quite ready to face the real world again just yet.

“-uld have taken your place. Never wanted you to have to go through that, I always wanted to keep you safe and I couldn’t do anything, Y/N, I tried to but I couldn’t, I couldn’t…” The voice trailed off with a sob and you felt tears against your hand.

Spencer was here.

Relief flooded your system, if Spencer was here then he didn’t have his own hospital room and that meant he was safe, it meant that somebody had finally pieced together where you were and it meant you were safe.

“Y/N.” Spencer said softly, sitting up and quickly wiping the tears from his face before he brushed away the single tear that made its way down yours. “You’re ok, you’re safe.” He assured you and you pulled him closer until he was sitting next to you, his arm gently laying across your shoulder and your head resting against his chest.

“What happened?” You asked, voice sore and hoarse from screaming causing Spencer to wince and grab something from the table before a straw was held in front of your lips.

You smiled gratefully up at him before finishing the glass in just a few sips, relaxing even more as your throat felt slightly better with the cold water.

“The unsub left two bodies before we went to see him,” Spencer told you, his hand tracing random shapes against your skin as he spoke softly, “It’s why it took them so long to realise we hadn’t come back yet. It wasn’t long after you passed out that they came.”

“You okay?” You asked him, keeping your voice as quiet as possible so that it didn’t burn your throat.

“Am I-” Spencer began but cut himself off with a huff of disbelief, “You were just tortured and you’re asking me if I’m ok?” He couldn’t help but smile as you nodded against him, turning your head slightly to press a kiss against his shirt. “I’m okay, Y/N/N.”

“Good.” You muttered, suddenly feeling exhausted.

“I’m so sorry I let you get hurt.” Spencer whispered against your hair just as you were drifting off and you knew he probably thought you had already fallen asleep but you dragged your eyes open and pulled back from him so you could look up and meet his gaze.

“None of this is your fault, trust me I know if you could, you would have taken every single punch, kick and slice.” You told him, tone soft but leaving no wrong for arguments but Spencer still did so.

“I just watched-” He began but you cut him off.

“No, you didn’t.” You told him, shaking your head as you did, “You were restrained and that man doesn’t target other men, he got off on them being powerless, trust me there was nothing you could have done.”

“I wish it was me.” He whispered the confession but you already knew that, you knew if he had a choice everytime something bad happened, you just knew he’d have it inflicted upon himself before he let it happen to you.

“I’m glad it wasn’t.” You whispered back before you leaned up, meeting his lips for a soft kiss, feeling Spencer hesitate for only half a second before he kissed back, cupping your cheek softly, weary of the line of stitches that went from the top of your forehead down to your temple, stopping just above your cheekbone.

“I’m glad it wasn’t,” You whispered again, leaning back in to brush your lips against his one more time, watching as Spencer smiled down at you and nodded.

“You should get some rest.” He murmured, pulling away and positioning you back against  his chest as he brushed his hand against your arm using the hand around your shoulder.

“I love you, Spenc.” You told him, voice soft and drowsy as you let your eyes fall shut once more, already half asleep and missing the smile that spread against Spencer’s face, completely in love with you.

“I love you too,” He said softly, placing a lingering kiss on your head, “so much.”

Derek x reader

Summary: The team doesn’t know about Derek’s new girlfriend until she becomes a vital part of a new case they’re working.

JJ laid the folder in front of each of them. ‘3 women, all kidnapped and murdered in the last two weeks’ Hotch explained. ‘Right here in Washington, the last one was kidnapped yesterday’ He sat and clicked the remote three pictures coming up on the board. ‘They all look the same, that’s a clear link between victims’ Reid observed.

Derek lifted his head to look at the women, they seemed familiar, like he’d seen them before. ‘That’s not the only one’ Prentiss looked at the file. ‘They all work in The Dover Institute, all on the same ward’ That got Derek’s attention. ‘They work where?’ He began flicking through the sheets and sure enough they all worked at the same place. No wonder he had recognized them.

Derek shoved his chair back before hurrying out of the room. ‘Hey, Morgan, wh-’ But Hotch was cut off by the door closing behind the agent. When outside he pulled his phone from his belt and pressing the speed dial.

You looked down at you phone as it began to ring. ‘Excuse me’ You smiled politely at the nurse you were speaking to. Rounding the corner you hit the answer button. ‘Hey Babe’ You smiled chirping into the phone. ‘Let me guess, new case you’ll be gone for a few’ It was always that when he called you at work. ‘New case, right here. Listen to me sweetheart’ He rushed and the smile instantly fell from your face.’Tell them you’re sick go home pack a bag and go to mine, do not let anyone in, do not stop and talk to anyone, always have someone around you. Do not, ever, be on your own until you get into mine, and stay there’ You furrowed your eyebrows.

What was this? Why did he need you to go? You were already understaffed with Aine not turning up for work and Sandra being on holiday. Then there was Denise, you didn’t even want to think about what happened to her, the poor girl’s body was found almost a week ago. ‘Derek, I ca-’ He grunted at the other end. ‘No, Y/n, listen to me. There’s some guy going around killing people from your ward, they look exactly like you. Go to mine. Now’ Your hand flew to your mouth. ‘You-you mean Denise? Is that what happened to Aine? She never showed up today. Oh God’ You fell back into the chair.

You heard his uneven breathing on the other end of the phone. ‘Sweetheart, no, listen, calm down, deep breaths, come on, deep breaths’ You could feel the tears coming in your eyes. ‘Calm down?’ You hissed. ‘Derek, by the way you’re making it sound I’m next, oh god. Poor Aine’ You closed your eyes willing not to cry. ‘Three, there’s been three abductions Y/n, you’re not next, I’m just being safe, please go home beautiful, please’ You froze your body rigid.

Three? ‘Derek, three? There’s only two of us mi-Sandra? She-shes supposed to be on holidays’ You felt a tear slip out of your eye rolling down your cheek. ‘We found another body, three. Sweetheart, go home. Now’ You nodded frantically wiping your tear from your face. ‘Y-yeah, I’ll grab my stuff a-and be at yours in an hour’ You told him. ‘Good, thank you beautiful, ring me when you get back, ring me if you’re alone. Promise’ You nodded again. ‘Promise, I’ll see you later’ You hung up and dropped your head into your hands.

Standing you pushed your hair from your face. ‘Y/n?’ A nurse’s voice called from down the hall. ‘He’s gotten worse’ Stealing yourself you tucked your phone away and strode down the hall towards the patient's room. You could hear him screaming before you even got onto the corridor. ‘I’m going to go in maybe I can talk to him, but I need sedative’ The woman nodded and ran off knowing what to do, it wasn’t like this wasn’t a regular occurrence.‘Brian?’ You opened the door stepping hesitantly inside.

You sighed laying your head on the wall. Closing your eyes you took a deep breath. ‘Hey’ You heard an angry voice shout. Well, this day couldn’t turn out any worse. Opening your eyes you seen Derek storming down the hall towards you. Taking a deep breath you readied yourself for his onslaught. ‘Derek, lis-’ You gasped as he took your arm in his hand dragging you further down the hallway. ‘You promised me you’d go home, why the hell are you still here?’ You shrugged your arm out of his grasp. ‘I had to stay’  You defended

He sighed loudly throwing back his head a little. ‘Derek, one of my patients had an episode I couldn’t leave, I had to stay. With Aine, missing’ You gulped. ‘And Sandra not in it’s just the two of us here, I couldn’t leave Nick alone wi-’ Derek grabbed you arms leaning down to your height. ‘Screw Nick, this is your life we’re risking here. The bastard could be waiting outside for you now, he knows your schedule Y/n, he knows all your schedules. I need you alive you hear me’ You pulled away from him. ‘I risk my life walking into some of these rooms when these people relapse, it’s something I’m used to don’t go lecturing me about risking my life. What the hell do you do every single day? You think I don’t know if the last time I’m going to see you alive is every time you walk out the door huh?’ You almost shouted at him.

He paused. ‘That’s different, you’re being targeted. I’m bringing you home, now’ You shook your head. ‘I need to monitor Mr Willows for another hour, Derek’ He shook his head. ‘No, no’ He grabbed your hand turning dragging you back down the hall. ‘Derek’ You snapped and tried pulling away from him but he had an iron like grip on you.

It was only then that you noticed the other agents standing at the bottom of the hall. One was tall and skinny, Dr Reid, the other wore a suit and had a stoic face, Hotch, and the last a woman with dark hair, Prentiss. Derek had told you about them. ‘Woah, Morgan, we need to question her’ Your eyes widened as Hotch put a hand on Derek’s should stopping her. ‘I can do it, I’m dropping her home’ He snapped.

Reid looked between the two of you. ‘You know each other?’ You nodded. ‘Am I a suspect? Is that why you’re questioning me? Or is it because you think I’m the next victim?’ They all looked from Derek to you. ‘Ma’am w-’ You shook your head. ‘Doctor, but you can call me Y/n’ You cut him off and he nodded quickly. ‘We just need you to answer a few questions. ‘Ms Denny did not come into work today?’ You shook your head. ‘And Ms Francis is supposed to be on vacation?’ Again you nodded, your hand tightening around Derek’s. 

He stepped away from Hotch and closer to you, almost shielding you from their view. ‘Ms Francis, she was found wearing a wedding ring? All three of the victims were. Any idea why that would be?’ You shook your head. ‘Sandra hadn’t even got a boyfriend, not in almost a year, there’s no way she would be married, Denise was, but Aine wasn’t either’ You glanced up at Derek. ‘Why? Why would they be wearing rings?’ You tugged on his arm your other hand coming up and wrapping around his forearm.

He sighed as if he didn’t really want to tell you. ‘We believe this Unsub could be living out a fantasy where the victims are his wife’ He looked down at you. ‘And you think seeing as they’re all from the same ward here, the Unsub was a patient here. Or maybe someone who has had contact with us all?’ Hotch raised an eyebrow and glanced at Derek. ‘I’m not a profiler but I know how people’s minds work, it’s my job. I-I can give you a list of people if you just explain what you think he’s like’ Derek squeezed your hand giving Hotch a warning look but nodded.

You flicked through your files the team behind you. ‘Frank Waters, he was discharged two years ago, always proposed to Denise and myself. Called us his wife, told us we looked like his late wife. Mr Martin, oh, no it’s not him, he passed two months ago’ You clicked a few more buttons. ‘Jamie Leeson, he’s in Nevada, a friend of mine does frequent home visits’ You pressed a few more keys. Last check in was two days ago, he’s fine’ Pulling up the last file you read the details. ‘Mark Rush, released almost five months ago, Nick was his attending doctor but he always asking for us to come by’ You shuddered. ‘He was always saying he was married to one of us, but honestly I don’t think he could tell us apart. But I wouldn’t ever see him killing’ You looked over your shoulder at them

Reid pulled out his phone dialing a number walking from the room. ‘That’s it, but none of them ever struck me as murderers’ You looked at Derek. He nodded and reached out laying his hand on your shoulder his thumb stroking the skin on the back of your neck. ‘That wasn’t there yesterday’ He said noticing the cut on the back of you neck. You shrugged closing the files and standing. ‘I need to check on Mr Willows, and don’t fight it. If you’re so worried about me, come back after and bring me home. If I’m in here, I’m safe, this place has security and I promise I’ll stay inside until you call me’ Derek studied you for a second. 

Then nodded. ‘Okay, I’ll ring you when I’m outside and you come straight out’ You nodded. ‘You’re gonna get this guy’ You reached out and squeezed his hand. ‘You’re good at what you do, you’ll get him’ You leaned up and pressed your lips to his jaw before nodding to the rest of the team. ‘It was good meeting you, excuse me’ You slid out the door by Reid just as he was coming back inside.

An hour later you walked through the lobby of the hospital, Derek was waiting outside. ‘Ms Y/l/n?’ You heard a call. Turning you strode to the security office. ‘What ca-’ You were cut off by a knife pressed to your throat as you were spun around and pressed against the wall. ‘Hello, my love’ A kiss was pressed to your shoulder. You pulled away but the metal only bit into your skin. It was then you seen the man bent over the controls, blood coating the walls ‘Shh, we’re going to have a lovely time, me and you. Husband and wife. I came back for you. All the others, they were nothing. It was always you’ You closed your eyes.

Dipping your hand into your pocket you found three and held it down. Come on Derek, pick up, pick up. ‘Frank? Frank is that you? Hi’ You began to talk loudly trying to cover the ring. You heard Derek’s voice from your pocket. ‘Frank’ You spoke louder. ‘Frank you’re not supposed to be inside the hospital, where are the guards?’ You asked. He spun you around. ‘I came in the back door, by your car, but that traitor wants you out front’ He snarled. With that he raised his hand and then black.

When you woke you found yourself alone, it was cold and dark. You wore a long shirt, your previous uniform gone. Lifting your hand in front of your face you seen a golden ring on your finger. Your hand shook and you turned in on yourself the cold seeping into your bare legs. You heard a rattle and something bit into your left ankle. You were shackled. Tears prickled at your eyes and they began to overflow. Sobs shook your body. 

You were going to die. You were going to die. 

You didn’t know how long you lay there crying but then there was footsteps, outside the door. Then light. You tried to calm yourself trying to feign unconsciousness. ‘I know you’re away my love, a husband always knows’ You closed your eyes curling in more. ‘My love, come on’ A hand wrapped around your arm and yanked you up. ‘You must eat’ You screeched at him launching yourself at him. You hit and clawed as well as you could. He stumbled back as you hit him. 

Then the chain around your leg caught and you fell to the ground. Tears fell from your eyes hitting the ground. ‘Eat, my love’ A plate was slid in front of you, with a sandwich You picked it up and threw it as hard as you could towards him. You gasped as his hand came into contact with the side of your face. With a scream you fell back onto the ground. ‘Look what you made me do, look’ He shouted. ‘All you have to do is love me and look’ He screamed at you ‘Let me go, let me go and I’ll love you. I promise’ You pushed yourself up pleading with him.

You sobbed. ‘Please’ He shook his head. ‘I’ll make another, you need to eat’ He turned and began to leave. ‘No, no’ You screamed. ‘No, don’t go please, please, don’t le-’ With that he slammed the door shut locking it. ‘Come back, please. Frank’ You screamed as you puled your knees to your chest. The salty tears stung the cut on your cheek and when you tucked your lip into your mouth did you realize that was cut too.

You didn’t know how long you were there, but you were cold, very cold. You couldn’t stop shivering. And that’s when you heard shouting, shouting and screaming. Then the door opened. ‘F-frank?’ You shivered. He turned and locked the door. ‘Sh, they’re here to take you away. They can’t take you away. Not again’ He made his way towards you reaching out for you laying a hand on your cheek. ‘Derek’ You screamed. Shoving Frank aside you began to crawl towards the door. ‘Derek, help. Derek, I’m he-’ He covered your mouth as you were tackled to the floor

You tried to kick him off but he was too heavy. His body flattened yours into the floor his hand covering your mouth. You bit down harshly on his skin and he jerked away. ‘Derek’ You screamed before another slap was delivered to your cheek. You could hear them outside though. ‘De-’His hand calmed down over your face cutting off your air supply. ‘Sh, sh’ He calmed you looking to your eyes. Wide eyes that just wanted to be loved, that needed someone. But that someone wasn’t you.

A bang came from the side and light flooded the room. ‘Get off her, on your feet’ Derek’s voice shouted filling the room. Then you were pulled up to your knees and something was pressed against your neck. A knife, again. ‘Put it down, put the knife down’ Derek shouted at him brandishing his gun. ‘Let her go’ You eyes met his as the metal pressed more into your neck. ‘She’s mine, she’s mine now’ Frank croaked from behind you.

You took a deep breath. ‘H-he’s right, I-I love him, don’t I Frank?’ You shook. ‘Look at me Frank, come on. Look at me so we can tell them the truth, you didn’t take me. I’m here because I want to’ The knife came away from your neck and you flung your head back. He grunted as you hit him and then smacked him before shoving him away from you.

Shots rang through the room as you fell to the floor covering your ears.You uncovered them as you seen Derek rushing towards you. ‘Der’ You sobbed reaching for him. He fell to his knees and gathered you up into him. You arm wrapped around his neck as you buried your face into his shoulder gripping his shirt tightly. ‘I’m sorry, I’m so-so-sorry’ You sobbed. You felt his hand smooth your hair. ‘It’s alright sweetheart, it’s okay. I have you. I got you’ Derek cooed holding you tighter. ‘Hotch, get the key’ He snapped.

When the chain was gone from your leg Derek slipped his arms under you and lifted you from the ground. ‘Come on, I’m gonna get you to the hospital’ You held onto him as he maneuvered you out of the house and towards the black SUV. ‘I should have listened to you’ You sobbed as he slipped into the passenger seat. He nodded to whoever was in the drivers seat and the car turned on. ‘Remember that for future reference sweetheart’ He pressed a kiss to your head.

You looked up at him. ‘Don’t you worry Baby, I got you’ He smiled down at you. He reached up drying your tears. ‘I got you’ You reached up and pulled him down to you pressing your lips against his in a soft kiss. ‘Thank you, thank you for coming for me. I should have went home with you. I’m sorry’ Derek wrapped his arms around you pulling you into his chest. His hand smoothing your hair again holding you too him. 

Derek handed you his coat and you put it over the spare clothes you had on. ‘C-can I stay with you tonight?’ You whispered. Derek looked down at you as he lead you out of the hospital room. The whole team were waiting outside to see how you were doing. ‘You can stay with me as long as you need’ He pressed a kiss to your temple and wrapped his arm around you shoulder.

A woman you hadn’t seen before smiled at you. ‘You must be Y/n, I’m Penelope Garcia’ She held out her hand to you. ‘Hi, that’s me’ You smiled slightly wincing as it pinched at your cut lip. ‘Nice thinking back’ Hotch nodded at you. You shrugged leaning into Derek. ‘Something Derek told me, he likes to talk about his cases sometimes. He said something about Reid playing into his fantasy’ Derek tightened his arm around you

You smiled as he kissed your head again. ‘That’s my girl’ He whispered rubbing your arm. ‘Your girl we’ve never heard of’ Garcia gave him a sharp look. You smirked. ‘I’m sorry, I asked him not to, it’s new and he travels a lot I wasn’t sure it was going to last’ You bit your lip and Derek gave Garcia a apologetic look. ‘Oh, it’ll last darling’ She assured you with a smile as Derek began to properly introduce you to the rest of the team.

Sitting cross legged on the bed you looked at the bruise on your ankle. You sighed running your finger over the discolored skin. ‘You okay?’ You looked up to see Derek standing, in a top and boxers, in the doorway a cup in his hand. ‘I’ll get by’ You took your hand from your leg. ‘Tea?’ You nodded and Derek sat on the bed beside you handing you the cup of steaming hot liquid. ‘The team liked you’ He mused and you nodded taking a sip letting the liquid warm you from the inside. ‘I like them too’ You smiled up at him.

Leaning across you laid down the cup before taking Derek’s hand in yours. ‘I should have listened to you Der, I’m so sorry I did that to you. You warned me and I didn’t listen, I’m so sorry’ You felt tears welling up in your eyes again. ‘Sh, baby hush’ Derek pulled you into him pressing his lips to yous firmly. ‘It’s okay, it’s okay. Look at me Baby’ You sniffled looking up at him. ‘You did what you needed to do, It’s okay’ He pressed his lips to yours again.

You melted into him your hands gripping his shirt holding him to you. ‘I love you Baby’ He whispered his forehead against yours. Your eyes shot open but you were met with his eyes closed and a relaxed look on his face. ‘I-I love you too Derek’ You whispered and pressed your lips to his again.

Derek pulled you down lying and pulled the covers over you. He reached behind him pulling off his top. ‘You should sleep Beautiful, you’ve had a long day’ He turned off the light beside him. ‘Eh, Der’ You whispered. ‘Can you leave it on?’ The light came back on. ‘Course Baby, whatever you need’ He wrapped his arm around you holding you to his chest. ‘I love you, Der, and thank you’ You closed your eyes curling up into him feeling safe and warm. ‘I love you too Baby’ He pressed a kiss to your forehead and leaned back into the pillow keeping his arms tight around you.

Summary: Reid helps his girlfriend through the pregnancy

Two Months

You sat on the bath staring at the three tests on the sink. This wasn’t good. Sure, you and Spencer had spoke about children, maybe once or twice but never seriously.

The first time was on your third date, you were talking about your hopes for the future and kids had just come up. Spencer had wanted to wait a good while, until he was older, you had been the same. You wondered if a year and a half was older enough for him.

The second time had been when your sister had given birth. She was almost two years younger than you but had married her high school sweetheart whereas you went to the big city. You and Spencer had curled up on the couch. He was reading a book and you were watching some brain numbing TV show.

That had only been a few months ago. You had brought it up, asking if he ever thought of having kids with you. It had been something that had slipped out and you hadn’t thought about it. You had rushed to cover up your mistake but Spencer had responded with a yes almost immediately. But not now.

Your heart leapt as there was a call on your phone. Diving across the bathroom to your bag you dug around in it. Finally pulling out the loud device you flipped it open answering it. ‘Y/n’ You breathed. ‘We got a case’ JJ’s voice came over the phone. You gulped your hand landing on your lower abdomen. ‘O-okay’ You nodded. ‘You okay?’ She asked. ‘I’ll see you in 10 minutes’ You hung up before she could answer.

You stared at the file in front of you unable to concentrate. You couldn’t focus on anything. You could only listen to half the sentences people were saying. You jumped as someone put their hand on your shoulder. You looked up to see Spencer looking down at you a frown on his face his eyebrows furrowed in concern. ‘Are you okay?’ You stood nodding. ‘Of course, yeah’ He grabbed your hand keeping you in place. ‘I know you I ca-’ You nodded. ‘I’m just feeling a little ill, nothing that wont pass’ You pulled away from him running out the door.

You caught your boss walking into his office. Hurrying after him you pushed into the room behind him and closed the door. ‘I need to sit this one out Hotch’ He spun around almost surprised by your presence. ‘I’ll stay here, cover bases from here’ You told him as he glanced you over. ‘Are you sick? You look perfectly well’ He said gathering his things. ‘No, not-well-kind of’ You shrugged. He looked up at you halting his movements. ‘Y/n, if you’re sitting it out I ne-’ You couldn’t tell him, you had to tell Reid first. ‘Aaron’ You cut him off. His use of first name got his attention. ‘As one friend to another, I need to sit this out’ Hotch thought for a second before nodding picking up his bag. ‘I expect a full explanation when I get back’ He patted your shoulder as he walked by you.

You sighed in relief going to sit in the chair across from Hotch’s desk. You closed your eyes, this was going to be hard to explain to the team. Maybe you could just make up an illness, say you got the flu. But lying successfully to a room full of worried profilers was definitely one of the hardest things to do. You opened your eyes and smiled slightly when you found your hand had subconsciously strayed to your stomach.

The team looked around the plane as Hotch got on. ‘Wheres Y/n?’ Spencer asked standing. ‘She’s staying at base, thinks she could be more use there’ He walked by Reis towards the back of the plane. Spencer sat leaning into Derek. ‘Something’s wrong with Y/n, she was distracted today in the briefing’ JJ leaned in aswell. ‘She was like that on the phone earlier too’ She contributed. ‘Listen, guys’ Morgan waved his hand slightly getting both of their attention. ‘I’m sure she has a good reason, she wouldn’t sit out a case for just nothing. She loves being in the field’ Spencer thought it over nodding slightly but still promising himself to call when they landed.

For a whole week you had been off with them, you had successfully told them you had come down with something, getting Penelope to back you up telling them you had gone to the doctors one morning and all. Then it came to a shoot out. And you froze. Morgan had given you stick about it, Spencer had just been openly worried. Right now you were sitting in the break room your head in your hands.

You heard someone pull up a seat beside you. ‘Y/n?’ Spencer’s tentative voice rang through the silence. ‘Do you need something to drink? A coffee?’ He was worried, you could hear it in his voice. You shook your head. ‘Are you still sick? Is it something worse than the flu?’ Looking up you seen the tears almost forming in his eyes.

You reached out taking his hands pulling them to your face pressing a kiss to his knuckles. ‘No, I’m not sick Spence’ You breathed. ‘Then what is it?’ He just about shouted. ‘Why are you so-’ You dropped his hands pulling away. ‘I’m pregnant Spencer, I’m pregnant’ You said softly. But he heard.

Spencer was watching you silently. His mouth open and eyes wide. S-spencer?’ You whispered after several moments silence. Then something in his demeanor changed. His eyes lightened, no longer looking at you in shock but more like awe, the corners of his lips pulling outwards slightly. ‘Spencer?’ You reached out touching his arm. 

He blinked twice his tongue darting out to wet his lips. ‘You-you’re pregnant? As in we-’ You nodded. ‘Yeah, we’re gonna have a kid’ Then his face split in two one of the largest smiles you had ever seen on his face. ‘We’re going to be parent’s, my-I’m-I’m going to be a father?’ You nodded slightly.

With that he shoved himself from the chair his hands wrapping around your arms. He pulled you from your seat and straight up into him. . His arms wrapped around you as he smashed his lips to yours in a rushed happy kiss. You felt a weight lift from your shoulders. He was happy.

Spencer was happy about this’

Then suddenly he pulled away. ‘I-no-you shouldn’t have stood so fast, sit back down’ He pushed you back down into the chair again and dropped to his knees in front of you. ‘Do you need anything? Water? You should stay hydrated. Have you eaten today? When was the last time you did eat?’ He went to stand but you gripped him holding him down with a laugh.

He looked up at you. Reaching up you ran your fingers through his hair holding the back of his head your finger tangling in his brown locks. Your other hand laid on his cheek. ‘Spence, I’m fine, it’s okay. I’m only two months along’ Spencer’s hands dropped from your arms to your waist.

He smiled at you before his eyes trailed down to your abdomen. ‘My Baby’ He cooed as he leaned forwards. His forehead leaned just below your chest as he pressed his face into you. You giggled a little holding him to you. ‘You’re gonna be a daddy Spencer’ You beamed down at the top of his head. ‘I’m going to be a dad’ He breathed his hot breath fanning across your shirt and then he wrapped his arms around you hugging you to him his cheek pressed against your stomach

Three Months

Four weeks, it had been four weeks and five new cases and the team was starting to get anxious. You were a field agent, it was where you loved to be. But for the last few weeks you had been perfectly content to stay with JJ or Garcia. And when you did come it was only on simple raids, nothing serious. And Spencer was fully on board with your decision, if even a little iffy when you had to go out with them. It was this worry that had both you and Spencer sitting in the back of the plane while the others sat up front.

 Spencer had his arm around you and his other hand subtly under your shirt tracing patterns along your skin. The affection both you and Spencer had been so open about also worried them, usually in work you were professional, maybe the off affectionate gesture when you guys didn't think the others would notice, but not anymore. 

You glanced up at the others. 'I think we should tell them' You whispered to him. Spencer took his head off yours. 'They have been asking' He sighed his hand stopping its movements just resting under your shirt. 'I mean now Spence, they've all been watching me weirdly' Spencer shrugged. 'You are different' He avoided the suggestion, although when Spencer did that you could never really tell if he was avoiding it or if his brain had just taken him off somewhere else. 'Spence, should we tell them?' You asked again trying to pull him back. 'Huh? Yeah, if you want, we can tell them now, right now, yeah' He nodded and you knew he hadn't been avoiding it. 

Standing you pulled away from him and held out your hand. 'Alright' A smile stretched across his face and he stood grabbing you hand. He leaned down pressing a kiss to your forehead before you both turned. The others looked up as you both stopped ahead of them. Emily seen where their eyes were and turned looking at you both. Spencer reached down putting his hand on your hip steadying you even though you didn't need it. You fiddled with your hands. 'Eh, guys, how about you call Garcia?' You smiled at them. Derek frowned but did as you asked. 'Hey sugar' She was turned to face you and Spencer before she could get anything else out. 

You waved. 'I know you've been worried so we're just gonna te-' You began to tell them but you could only giggle when you were cut off. 'We're pregnant' Spencer almost shouted. 'Well, she is, it’s impossible for me to be' His eyes widened along with the others. His hand clamped over his mouth. 'You're serious?' Garcia's voice rang through. You nodded. 'Just over three months' You smiled at them. 'I'm going to be a dad' Spencer began talking again a grin splitting his face. 

 Then there was a loud squeeze as Garcia disappeared from the screen and you only got a few glimpses of her skirt as she did a happy dance. 'Damn kid' Morgan stood and rushed over to you both pulling you into a hug. 'Congrats guys' Spencer shoved him back. 'You shouldn't squeeze her' His hand slid around to your stomach cradling it gently. 

 The team began to laugh. 'Well, I won't hug you, Reid has a gun but I'm happy for you guys' Hotch teased with a smile and you thanked him. 'I'm so happy for you' JJ stood hugging you anyway despite Spencer's watchful eyes. 'You guys ever need anything' You nodded thanking her. Emily grabbed you hand squeezing it. 'Good luck' She said with a laugh. Gideon was last to congratulate you. He stood patting you both on the shoulders. 'Its gonna be one lucky kid' You blushed at the compliment. 'Sit, tell us everything' He gestured to a seat. 

Three and a Half Months

You skipped into the office Spencer following behind you. You had both come back from your lunch hour 'Guess what we've got' You shouted alerting the team you were back. 'Come on' You beckoned them over to the your desk when you sat. 'Spence show them' They were all confused but couldn't help smile at the excitement in your voice. Spencer reached into his bag pulling out a small envelope. ‘What’s in the envelope Pretty boy?’ Morgan leaned against your desk. ‘Spencer beamed at them. ‘Our baby’ He said opening it and pulling out the ultrasound photo. 

Suddenly the team was almost as excited as you as they crowded around Spencer trying to get a good look at the small baby. ‘We went for a scan today and got a photo this time’ You beamed squeezing by them to your boyfriend. He reached out wrapping his arm around your waist pulling you to him pressing a quick kiss to your lips. Garcia awed and clasped her hands together. ‘It’s the first time we’ve both been off and were able to get an appointment’ You smiled as Spencer turned the photo back to you looking at it adoringly.

Four Months

Spencer’s hand grazed your stomach and he couldn’t help but smile. You had started to show about a week ago but you hadn’t noticed. But he had. He noticed every little thing that you had done. The weird and the wonderful. He noticed you liked to eat more ice cream going through almost two or three tubs a week. He noticed you woke in the middle of the night, you would take a walk, have a glass of water and come back to bed, something you had never done before.

You hummed in your sleep and Spencer leaned forwards pressing a kiss to the back of your neck. ‘Spence’ You grumbled feeling him pressed up against you his hand on your stomach, again. It felt like his hand was almost permanently on it afraid he’d miss something. Every night when you would go to bed he was pull you into him wrapping his arms around you resting his large hand on your stomach.

You grunted turning over to look at him. ‘Sometimes I think you love our baby more than me’ You giggled and he pursed his lips looking away from you. ‘I love you equally’ He reasoned. You rolled your eyes. ‘I know babe’ You giggled leaning up to give him a long kiss. ‘I love you’ He whispered. He wrapped his arm around your back pulling you closer.You buried your head in his chest. ‘Spence, I think I’m beginning to show. I put on my top and it was tighter’ Spencer laughed. ‘You’ve been showing for the last two weeks’ Your head snapped back looking up into his brown eyes. ‘No I ha-’ He nodded. ‘I know you, every inch, I feel the curve’ He smiled. 

You blushed. ‘It’s that kind of talk Spencer Reid that got us in this situation’ You giggled and he kissed you again. ‘I’m happy with our situation’ Then he frowned. ‘Are you not? Do you think we sh-’ You put your finger over his lips. ‘One of the best situations I’ve ever found myself in Spence, apart from that time in Texas’ You winked and seen a blush forming on his cheeks.

Five months

You were definitely showing now. Since it had become very visible it kind of hit home with Spencer that there was another human being inside of you. He was more protective than ever. He had completely banned you from any field work about two weeks ago, not taking no for an answer. He made sure you always had a cool glass of water on your desk and was always supplying you with yogurts.

He was even against you flying and wanted you to stay in Quantico. But that was where you had put your foot down, which resulted in a fight. Which resulted in Spencer getting extremely worried that you were stressed and high blood pressure and wanting to call the doctor. He had gone into overdrive listing out all the ill effects that the stress of a fight could have on you and the baby almost convincing himself he was the cause of it.

You jumped as there was a plate laid in front of you. ‘I got you a chicken salad from the shop a few blocks into the city, you know that little place you love but never go’ You smiled up at him. That place was expensive doing the best salads around, you never went because it was out of the way and cost a fortune for one salad. ‘I didn’t get mayonnaise, they used yogurt instead. And-eh- I know you don’t like avocados but I promise they did not add a lot and you won’t taste it’ You beamed up at him.

Standing you wrapped your arms around him burying your face in his chest. ‘You’re the best person ever Spencer’ You almost cried. You felt him tense but wrap his arms around you. It would have taken him almost all of his break hour to get to that shop and back. ‘B-but you haven’t eaten’ You pulled away. His eyes widened when he seen the tears in your eyes. ‘Sorry, you need to look after yourself too’ You wiped your eyes.

Spencer guided you back down onto the seat his hand coming to the side of your now prominent bump. ‘I’m about to eat now, please, don’t cry’ His hand brushed your cheek. You leaned forwards pressing your lips to his quickly ‘God I love you so much, I’ve been craving something, I think it’s ice cream, but yogurt dulls it. God you’re the best’ You stroked his face all traces of tears gone and a wide smile on your face. ‘You’re perfect, now eat’ You scolded him

Spencer stood nodding his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He turned to Morgan who was snickering beside you at the scene. Hormones Morgan mouthed at him and Reid nodded hesitantly never seeing you as quick to change moods like that. He leaned down and kissed your forehead. ‘I love you’ He whispered before tentatively going around to his own desk.

Five and a half Months

You let out a squeal as you sat in the briefing room. Your hands flew to your bump as you looked down. The entire room stopped talking looking at you worried. Spencer was by your side in a second. He dropped to his knees by your chair. ‘Are you okay?’ He grabbed your arms. ‘Is the baby okay? Does it hurt? Are you in pain? I’ll call 911′ He rushed looking around the office. ‘We’ll get you a doctor, baby please what-’ You grabbed his arm pulling his hand against your bump.

Immediately he was silenced. His eyes widened and his lips parted. Just like when you had told him the first time you were pregnant. A giant smile spread across his face. ‘That’s amazing’ He breathed out as he glanced up at you. ‘The baby, it’s moving’ You breathed telling the others who were looking at you both intensely. ‘Lemme feel’ Morgan jumped from his seat speeding around the table. You grabbed his hand pressing it to the top of your stomach.

He beamed down at you when he felt it. ‘That’s my baby Derek’ Spencer breathed looking up at him with wet eyes. ‘Sure is Kid, you did one hell of a job. You got a kicker’ Derek nodded. Spencer beamed looking back at your blouse covered stomach in awe. You reached out running your fingers through Reid's hair. ‘Alright move sugar, mama wants to feel’ Penelope swatted at Derek as she hurried into the room.

Each of the team took turns over the next 20 minutes to feel when the baby decided to move again. It was the first time you could really feel it, sure you had felt it move before but it was strong really strong now. Spencer had pulled his chair right over to you not having moved his hand since they had started moving.

You seen him smiled out of the corner of your eye every time the baby moved.

You took your eyes from the large plentiful buildings that were covered in lights. She was glancing at you in the mirror. You shook your head. ‘No, I seen one of his lectures online. The last time we met I was 1’ You cleared your throat and looked away from her.

She didn’t try talk to you again as you lost yourself in the unfamiliar surroundings. Since the accident, the crash, you hadn’t exactly spoken much. You hadn’t had any reason to. They’d asked you if you had any relatives, you said no but a godfather in Washington. A Doctor Spencer Reid. They’d asked after your health, both physical and mental, and you’d told them you were fine. The police had asked you about the accident. You’d told them. That was it. You never started a conversation with them.

You didn’t like them talking to you. They spoke like they were waiting for you to explode, to break. They looked at you with pity in their eyes. The poor little 15 year old who had lost her parent in a crash, one she had survived. But you didn’t need pity. You needed help, you needed a family. Hopefully this Dr Reid could help.

You were jolted out of your thoughts as you came to a stop. Looking up you were in front of a tall building. 'We’re here’ The lady turned looking at you with a smile on her face. You nodded reaching for the handle and pulling yourself out. It had been hard to maneuver with the sling but they had insisted you stay wearing it. You could see the worker sigh in the car before getting out placing another friendly smile on her face as you began to grab a bag out of the trunk. 'Let's go, we’re a little early but he said he should be home by now’ She beamed at you as she grabbed two bags and started towards the building. Looking up at the grey building you took in a deep breath letting it back out before hoisting the heavy bag up and following the lady.

Her knuckles wrapped fastly and harshly against the door. There was a muffled shout from inside before there was some shuffling loud footsteps and then the door opened.

Your eyes widened. He looked young, too young, you thought that lecture was from years ago, seemingly not. He was tall too, wearing a shirt, knitted vest and tie with a pair of suit pants and good shoes. How old was he? Was this a good idea? 'Oh-hi. You're early' He looked slightly surprised to see you there. You wondered exactly how early you were. ‘Oh yes, sorry Mr Reid’  She smiled. ‘Eh-Doctor’ Was all he said. Her eyebrows furrowed and she tilted her head to the side. ‘Excuse me?’ He shifted slightly. ‘It’s Doctor Reid’ You tried hard to keep the smile from crossing your face as her eyes widened and she nodded rushing to apologise. ‘Sorry, I’m so sorry Dr. Reid, my apologies’ He just nodded.

She bent and laid one of your bags on the ground. ‘Anita Roberts, child services’ She held out her hand. You seen his hesitation before he reached out and gave her a quick handshake pulling his own hand back. Your mother had told you once about his hatred of handshakes. He turned to look down at you. ‘Hello’ He smiled. ‘Hi, Dr. Reid I’m Y-’ He nodded .’Y/n, yeah, I recognise you. Your Mom sent me photos all the time’ You blinked a little, since the crash everyone had listened, just listened, never cutting you off.

This was definitely refreshing, someone treating you normal. ‘And, eh, call me Spencer’ You smiled at him and waved the hand in your sling and he smiled slightly waving back. You stood looking at each other for a moment before he cleared his throat. ‘Oh- come in’ He stood out of the way. ‘Is that all you have?’ He nodded to the few bags. ‘There’s more in the car Dr. Reid’ The woman clarified. ‘I’ll show you your room and then get your bags, is that okay?’ You nodded as he closed the door. ‘Yeah, thanks Spencer’ He smiled sweetly at you before rushing ahead leading you to the room.

It was nice, small, a lot smaller than your old room but nice. It was painted a soft green, and had a bed in the centre. There was a few cabinets, a bedside table, a tall skinny bookshelf and then a wardrobe in the corner. Simple. ‘Alright Y/n, I think it’s time for me to go and for you two to get to know each other’ The social worker smiled at you from the doorway as Spencer put the last bag on the bed. You turned looking up at her. ‘Thank you’ You smiled slightly. She beamed at you and nodded. ‘Anytime, you both have my number if you need anything’ SHe looked at Spencer pointedly. You nodded and she smiled softly at you. ‘I’ll show you out’ Spencer followed her out leaving you alone again.

Moving a bag you sat on the bed, it was nice, comfortable. It wasn’t home, but it wasn’t like you could go home, you didn’t have a home now. You wiped the tear that fell from your eye at the thought, you didn’t want the first thing Spencer remembered was you sitting crying when he had clearly put all this together for you. ‘My team has the day off tomorrow’ You jumped slightly to see Spencer standing in the doorway his hands in his pockets. ‘They wanted to know if you wanted to get dinner with them. JJ knows this little Italian place a block or two from here, she says it's good. I’d trust her, she has good taste. Unlike Morgan who tried to get me to eat with chopsticks once, which is impossible. I still can not fathom how people eat with those’ He shook his head taking in a breath.

You giggled. ‘Yeah, yeah, I like Italian’ You smiled after his little ramble. ‘Do you not know how to use chopsticks?’ He shook is head looking to the left. ‘They never let me live it down either, I am still hearing about it’ You smiled up at him. ‘I know, I could teach you, then you could al go out for dinner and show them you can use them’ He looked at you and then the corners of his lips pulled down in a satisfied look.’ That, is a good plan’ He nodded looking triumphant. ‘ ‘Um, Spencer, thanks, thanks for doing this for me. We don’t know each other really but thank you’ He stared at you for a second but nodded. ‘You Mom would have wanted me to help, it really isn’t that big of a deal’ He stepped into the room.

You watched him as he hovered. ‘I thought you should meet the team as soon as possible, we are close’ He shrugged and pushed back his hair from his face. ‘They’re a big part of my life’ He turned to look at you. ‘My only friends really’  You smiled softly at him, it wasn’t a surprise that he would be a little awkward, from what you had observed he didn’t get much, although your Mom did tell you he was a genius, maybe it was just people he didn’t get. ‘They’ll be around a lot, especially Penelope Garcia. They’re nice, you’ll like them’ He smiled as he walked towards the bed.

He sat beside you. ‘Eh, you’re okay with that right? Or do you need time to settle in?’ You shook your head looking down at your feet. ‘I guess I should, I don’t know, try get to know the place and all?’ You heard him sigh. ‘You don’t need to start adapting right away Y/n, people who experience a tragedy in their lives sometimes need to take a step back and just be with their thoughts’ You looked up at him and laughed a little bitterly. ‘I’ve had almost three weeks of that when I was in the hospital and with child services, sure they were there but I guess I never paid attention to them.So really, I think  I’ve had every thought you can at this stage Spencer’ He pursed his lips nodding again. ‘You never really do’ He whispered and looked away from you towards the wall.

You furrowed your brows. ‘I-I-’ But you didn’t know what you wanted to say so you just didn’t say anything. ‘If you want some time alone, that’s fine. If not, I have never really made dinner before, and I heard you make excellent Shepherd's Pie’ He stood and straightened out his slacks and laid his hand on your shoulder with a smile. Then he turned and walked from the room, well, your room. For a moment you sat in silence, on your own, thinking about what he said. Standing, you decided you should help him with dinner, he had offered after all. And you should probably try with this man he had taken you in even though he didn’t know you. 

Plus, your Mom was fond of him.

Later that night you padded through the sitting room and sat in the chair by the chess table. Looking out you seen the city still moving below you. You pulled the blanket closer around you. ‘Y/n?’ You jolted to see Spencer walking around the corner rubbing his eyes. ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you’ You whispered taking in his disheveled appearance. ‘It’s okay’ He shrugged. ‘You shouldn’t be up alone’ He began walking towards you and took the seat across from you. ‘What is keeping you up?’ He asked leaning back in the chair. ‘The sounds, it’s busy here’ You told him. He nodded glancing out the window. ‘You get used to it, I did’ You nodded picking at the blanket slightly.

It was silent for a moment before he spoke again. ‘Do you want to be left alone?’ You shook your head. ‘No, I haven’t had a moment alone since they died, it annoyed me, it did’ You breathed and licked your lip. ‘But, I don’t know, you seem different, they were always watching me,talking at me’ You smiled slightly at him. ‘I don’t mind being with you, you leave me to my thoughts, you’re not trying to get me to tell you everything going through my mind’ He nodded pursing his lips. ‘Even though you just want to keep them to yourself’ You shrugged .’I don’t know if I am or not’ He watched you for a second ‘Do you want to? Talk I mean?’ You shook your head leaning back in your seat.

He nodded. ‘I don’t know what to say’ You shrugged. ‘They expected me to know what to say, to know how to say it, but I just-I don’t. It makes sense in my head, but I never know how to say it’ He nodded and crossed his arms. ‘Well, you have lost both your parents, survived yourself, it’s going to mess with your head for a while, that’s natural. I see it with the people I talk to for my job’ You tilted your head silently hoping he would explain further. And he did. ‘They don’t know what to say, they don’t know what’s important, they have this vacant look in their eyes like they don’t know what’s real or what’s not’ You nodded understanding. ‘It’s overwhelming, your brain can’t deal with all the grief all the trauma, you can not explain something you can not even understand properly yourself’ You gave him a watery smile.

It made sense, the only thing you knew for certain was they were gone, you felt alone and sad, But that wasn’t it, they weren’t the right words for the hole inside you, how were you supposed to describe that? It was just a massive pit of emotions you couldn’t get into. They were there and they were killing you but you couldn’t understand hem. One minute it’s anger, the next sadness, then guilt, then sadness, and then the cycle starts again. Then when it all hurt too much just, numbness. ‘Thank you Spencer’ You had to clear your throat and he nodded slowly.

You both sat in silence again. ‘You’re not wearing your sling’ He pointed out. You shrugged again. ‘I don’t feel sore or anything, I told them that but they told me I still needed to wear it. It feels okay’ You flexed your shoulder and elbow. Spencer nodded. ‘Do you play chess?’ You looked away from the window to him as he sat forwards. ‘All I’m saying is, chess involves a lot of thinking if you play it right. It will tire your mind, that’s a good thing if you want to sleep, and you should sleep’ You chuckled slightly nodded.

You sat forwards. ‘You sound like a father’ That made him shrug and you could swear in the low light he was blushing slightly. ‘And yes, I play, not very well though’ He smiled up at you reaching forwards and beginning to put all his pieces back in place. ‘I play well enough. I’ll teach you’ You nodded and reached out arranging your own pieces into their starting positions. ‘What you need to do, is think three moves head, that is how you get a grasp of the game’ He said and gestured for you to move one of your piece.

Spencer was sitting reading a book when you emerged from your room about midday. ‘Hi’ You smiled. ‘Morning, did you sleep in until now?’ He looked up from the book. ‘It was a long day yesterday’ You shrugged. He nodded. ‘I was merely wondering, you can sleep in if you want. Sleep is good’ You nodded sitting down on the other end of the couch. ‘Do you read?’ He asked. You nodded. ‘Yes, sometimes’ Spencer gestured to all the books around. ‘Have a look if you want’ And he went back to reading. You watched him as his finger ran down the page, then the next and then he turned it over doing the same again. ‘Hold on, you couldn’t possibly read that fast’ You pointed out.

He looked up and smiled. ‘I have an eidetic memory and can read 20000 words a minute’ Your eyes widened. ‘Wow’ You breathed looking around the room. 20,000 words. Your eyes fell on the half completed game from last night. Spencer was clearly winning, and you could tell he was going easy on you. But it was definitely what you had needed, about half an hour of intense playing with him and you were almost falling asleep in your seat.

The sound of the doorbell caught you off guard. ‘That’s the team’ Spencer rushed by you and towards the door. You shuffled around the back of the couch suddenly nervous. These were the most important people in Spencer’s life, if they didn’t like you, would he decide that you should go? ‘Hey, sweetheart’ You blinked being pulled from your thoughts. In front of you was a tall smirking man with dark skin. ‘Eh-hi’ You help out your hand. ‘Y/n’ He smiled down at you and took your hand. ‘We know, the kid told us about you’ He pulled you into a quick hug patting your hair. ‘Derek Morgan’ You nodded.

Then a blond girl, bubbly with curly hair and bright clothing stepped up. ‘Step aside sugar, the rest of us want to see her too’ She takes you face in her hands smiling down at you. ‘You have the prettiest eyes’ She beamed and you blinked confused at what was happening. ‘Garcia, you’ll scare her’ The other blond girl laughed. ‘Right’ She pulled away from you. ‘Penelope Garcia, tech wiz, anything you need, you come to me’ She winked at you and you chuckled. ‘JJ’ The other blond woman chuckled shaking your hand. ‘And if we find out you’ve been getting Garcia to change your school grades we will arrest you’ The dark haired woman gave you both a warning look.

You giggled. ‘Oh honey’ Garcia smiled. ‘You won’t find out’ Derek laughed behind her throwing an arm over her. ‘Baby girl that’s breaking the law’ She shrugged. ‘I have you to get me off though don’t I’ She smirked at him. ‘Emily Prentiss’ The dark haired woman smiled at you. ‘That’s Aaron Hotchner and David Rossi’ The two men nodded at you greeting you. ‘Hi’ You waved, it’s nice to meet you all’ You smiled looking at the team.

Morgan clapped his hands together and rubbed his palms off one another. ‘Now, why don’t we something to eat I am starved’ He suggested and you heard a round of agreement everyone claiming to be hungry. ‘I’ll go grab my coat’ You piped up before rushing off down the hallway.

When you came back it was only Spencer in the apartment. ‘They’re down at the cars’ He told you catching you looking around. ‘They like you, not surprising. Do you like them?’ He asked as you both stepped outside and he locked the door behind you both. You nodded. ‘I like Penelope, she seems fun’ You smiled at him. ‘Are her and Derek a thing?’ You asked him. He chuckled shaking his head. ‘No, that’s Morgan and Garcia, they have a very close relationship but there is nothing romantic between them’ Spencer explained to you as you made your way down.

Derek moaned as he took a bite of his pizza. ‘This is good pizza’ You nodded taking another bite of your own food. ‘Did you know’ Spencer started. ‘A popular pizza toppings in Japan is squid’ Some of the team groaned. ‘What?’ He looked up confused. ‘Squid’ Emily groaned. ‘You’ve tried squid?’ You asked and she nodded. ‘I didn’t like it’ You nodded. ‘I’ve always wanted to try squid’ You mused. Derek laughed. ‘Well, then, we know where we’re going the next time. We’ll get you some squid little one’ He reached over and tousled your hair.

You pulled away from him with a glare. ‘Oh, if looks could kill’ JJ laughed and you started to smooth your hair down. You felt another hand join yours and glanced to the side seeing Spencer trying to help you. ‘You know, this causes knots’ He gave Derek a pointed look and he held up in hands in surrender. You turned to him and stuck out your tongue at him. He gasped and pointed at you. ‘You see that?’ Collectively the team denied anything and went back to eating causing you to laugh a little and Derek to send you a playful glare.

You sat watching the team as they laughed. Even Hotch, who you had come to know didn’t smile very often. A soft smile made it’s way onto your face as Garcia feld out some pasta for Derek to try off her fork. ‘Are you okay?’ Spencer leaned across to you his hand coming to rest on the back of your chair. You looked up at him and nodded. ‘It’s nice to be around people who are actually happy’ You whispered. ‘They were always faking it where I was, since the crash I mean’ Spencer nodded

You glanced at the rest of the table before looking back to the your godfather again. ‘It’s nice to have people treat me like a person again, not like a piece of glass’ He nodded understandingly. ‘Thank you for this, I don’t think I could have stuck it much longer’ Spencer shrugged giving you a shy smile. ‘With us you can have a normal life, I want that for you’ He leaned away with a smile taking a drink from his glass.

At the end of the day you were exhausted. Dinner had turned into a movie and a movie had turned into a tour of the BAU, Hotch even got you a tour of the plane. Then you had all went back to his to meet his son and wife, she was sweet, and hung out there for a while. Then everyone had started to drift home. 

Derek and Garcia dropped you and Spencer back to the apartment. Derek patted your shoulder pulling you into a quick hug. ‘Ever need anything little one just call, you got my cell’ You nodded and wiggled your phone, you had everyone’s number, just in case. Garcia pulled you into a crushing hug as Derek went to talk to Spencer. ‘Awh, don’t be afraid to drop by the office, I’d always be happy to see you’ She squeezed you and you smiled at her. She was a good person, quirky, but really sweet. ‘I’ll make sure of it’ You promised her. ‘And you ever have a bad test, you know where to find me’ She winked

You giggled. ‘Baby girl, what have we told you, just because you’re bad’ He scolded her and she gave a giggle. ‘Oh, what are you going to do about it?’ Spencer cleared his throat. ‘Guys’ He scolded glancing at you real quick and you rolled your eyes. ‘Alright man, alright’ Derek laughed. ‘See you two around’ He called and climbed into the car. ‘I like them’ You nodded looking up at your Godfather a smile on your face.

He smiled down at you. ‘Good, because until you go to college, you’re stuck with us’ You raised your eyebrows. ‘Who says I’m going to college?’ He gave you a small glare. ‘You’re going to college’ It was an order. You laughed. ‘Maybe I’ll be a Doctor too, like my Godfather’ He smiled at that. ‘As long as you go to college’ You rolled your eyes. ‘Yes sir’ He glanced at you before smiling. 

Spencer sidestepped closer to you ‘As long as you’re okay’ That caught you off guard. You took a second before looking up at him. He laid his hand on your shoulder. ‘I’m doing better today than I was yesterday and the day before’ You told him. ‘Good’ He smiled down at you again.

It wasn’t home but it was good, nice. Spencer was nice, the team was nice. Maybe it could be home, eventually.

Summary: A case lands on the doorstep with a blast from the past

Warnings: Little bit of smut, some violence. Like a sentence.

JJ always had piles of files on her desk. It had become a habit for you that when you had finished writing up your own reports you would come down and help her with the files she received. 

Today you were here again. ‘I never understand how you get your reports finished so quickly’ JJ said as she glanced over a file and placed it in the no pile. ‘I didn’t have anything else to do last night so I stayed late’ You clarified glancing up at her. Your eyes caught a file on the desk. Reaching over you grabbed it. What could possibly be so wrong that they would want the FBI in the darkest pits of Detroit.

Opening the file your eyes widened. ‘JJ’ You whispered and fluttered through the pages. ‘Yes?’ She looked up from the file she was engrossed in. ‘I got us a case’ She opened her mouth. You never had outrightly accepted a case, you just tried to profile a few she was uncertain about see what the unsub was like. But you had always given a suggestion never stepping over the line and picking a case.

JJ sighed. ‘Y/n’ You held her out the file. ‘Read it’ She sighed again taking the file flipping through it. With each page , each photo, each crime scene report her eyes widened and her face paled that little bit more. ‘I know those cops JJ, they wouldn’t ask in the FBI if it wasn’t serious. Their hatred for us almost matches the hatred the community has for us. And that’s a lot’ She nodded. ‘I’ll make copies and run it by the team’ You smiled at her slightly.

A half hour later the team sat in the briefing. ‘That area, we’re putting our lives in danger just by driving into it’ Hotch noted. ‘We always put our lives in danger’ You shrugged. His eyes fell on you. ‘You’re from Detroit right?’ You nodded. ‘Is that why you want to take this case?’ You looked up from the file and at him ‘Those boys were only 8 years old Hotch, just because the people around them aren’t particularly fond of us doesn’t mean they don’t deserve justice’ He leaned back in his seat his normal stoic expression a little sour.

You hardened your own face. ‘So what’s the personal connection here?’ He crossed his arms. ‘Personal? Detroit is a big place Hotch’ You snapped trying to cover your body language. He was a profiler, but so were you, you could cover your tracks, hopefully. ‘Reid, how far is Penswatch from the cri-’ You slammed your hand down on the table. You watched as everyone jumped ‘Don’t you dare answer that Reid’ You growled.

Hotch stood. ‘What’s your connection with this case?’ He snapped. You stood also shoving your chair back. ‘None, I don’t know any of those boys, I haven’t been home in ten years’ You growled. ‘Reid’ Hotch warned. ‘Seven miles east’ Hotch raised an eyebrow. ‘What is your connection to this case?’ Hotch repeated. ‘Hotch’ Derek cut him off. ‘She says there’s no connection, ‘there’s no connection’ But Hotch didn’t listen he just stayed staring at you. 

You dropped back down onto the seat with a sigh. ‘Jessie Donnelly, the third victim. I helped deliver him. He’s my Godson’ You ran your hand over your face. ‘You know family isn’t allowed work the case’ You shrugged. ‘He’s not family, after I got accepted, I went home to see my sister only, we met up somewhere that we wouldn’t be seen. It was Lilly’s house, someone we went to school with, she went into labour when we were there. I helped out and she asked me to stand for him’ You looked up at Hotch, he was only watching you curiously and openly. ‘That was the last day I seen him, I’ve gotten a photo every christmas of them all and I send him a present twice a year. He wouldn’t even recognise me, he didn’t even know my name. No connection’ You shrugged.

Hotch sighed and closed his eyes a second. ‘Hotch, I’m working this case, with or without the team. I have a nephew the same age who lived four houses down from the fourth boy, he could be next. I need to catch this guy’ Hotch opened his eyes. ‘There’s a connection there’ Again you shook your head. ‘No connection, the boy doesn’t know me, he was told I died ten years ago. He thinks I’m dead’ Reid’s eyes widened and he looked at Prentiss and she looked back at him. ‘Wheels up in 20′ Hotch turned and walked from the room.

After a moment the team began to follow him after gathering up their files. ‘You okay?’ Derek was the only one left. ‘Yeah, just want to catch this guy’ You whispered. He placed hand on yours and he threaded his fingers through yours. ‘We will’ You looked up and he smiled slightly at you. You looked away and closed your eyes tight. You heard his chair being pushed away from the desk and then warmth engulfed you. You sighed and pushed yourself from the chair burying your face in his chest and wrapping your arms around him. ‘I gotcha Baby, it’s alright, I gotcha’ He stroked your hair as you clung to him.

Rossi stood beside you making his own coffee. ‘This guy likes to spend a lot of time with these kids’ You heard Derek from the seating area of the plane. ‘Hotch may have a problem with it but I don’t’ Rossi said out of nowhere. ‘Huh?’ You looked up from stirring your own coffee. ‘Taking a case this personal, and no matter what you say it will always be personal’ You sighed as he nodded at you. ‘Family is family right?’ You told him the one thing you had lived by all your life, even though you hadn’t exactly had a family for years until you found the BAU team. ‘Right’ He nodded walking back into the area leaving you alone again.

You shielded your eyes when you got off the plane against the sun. ‘Woah, watch it there sweetness’ A hand caught your hip before you could fall forwards as Derek ran into the back of you. You glanced over your shoulder. ‘Always my knight in shining armour’ You giggled with a tight smile. He siled down at you some worry in his eyes as he squeezed your hip his fingers brushing the exposed skin under your shirt.

The others were throwing their bags in the trunk when you two got down there. ‘I told them they didn’t have to collect us, we had someone who knew the area’ Hotch told you. You nodded as he handed you the keys before turning going to the second car. You climbed into the car to find Derek in the passenger seat. He gave you a reassuring smile as you started it. 

It only took about 20 minutes to reach the station. There was a detective waiting outside for you leaning against the wall. The rest of the team climbed out and Hotch walked up to him. ‘Listen, if this is too hard for you-’ Derek reached across taking your hand. ‘-someone needs to check us in at the hotel’ He was giving you an out. But you just shook your head and climbed out of the car hearing him sigh behind you.

You strode over to the rest of your team. ‘Ah Detective Morrison this is Agent Y/n Y/l/n’ You stopped beside Spencer and held out your hand. ‘Agent?’ Morrison looked you up and down. ‘Well damn, who would have known’ You dropped your hand. ‘Why do you think I left?’ You shrugged. He laughed. ‘Honestly, we all thought you were dead’ Derek stopped beside you and crossed his arms. ‘Bet that came as good news’  You scoffed. He laughed and crossed his arms sizing you up ‘Well, one less person to arrest’ He held out his hand then.

With a smile he shrugged. ‘Good to see you again Ms T’ You rolled your eyes. ‘Agent will do’ You took his hand. ‘Or just Y/n, I gave up that name ten years ago’ He laughed. ‘Look at you, giving out your name like it’s nothing, how long did it take for us to get that out of you’ You let out a sharp laugh. ‘Seven years, and it wasn’t me that gave it up, idiot Donnelly hadn’t of tried to murder me in there you would have never known’ He chuckled. ‘Lord I remember that day, what were you in on?’ You glanced at the rest of your team seeing them watching you with surprised faces.

You cleared your throat and rubbed the back of your neck. ‘Assault’ You pursed your lips. ‘With a deadly weapon’ He clapped his hands momentarily. ‘Right, right, that was the time you tried to kill Marvin, guy was twice your size’ You crossed your arms your eyebrows narrowing. ‘Can’t prove that, ye ain’t got no proof, I ain’t admitting to nothing’ Instantly you realised your mistake. First, the old accent came out, second, you were acting lie you had all those years ago in the interrogation room. But Morrison just let out a laugh. ‘Boy am I glad I ain’t hauling your ass in no more, you were a tough nut to crack’ You scoffed. ‘In my memory, I never cracked’ He smirked and turned to Derek holding out his hand. ‘Detective Morrison’ He smiled.

You followed him into the station. It was the same as it always had been. It hdn’t changed in over 10 years, maybe a few new computers, and a coffee machine but after that. ‘Hey Morison you go so-’ Before you could finish your sentence a bottle of water came flying your way and you snatched it out of the air. You smirked. ‘Nice to know I made an impression’ You wiggled the bottle at him. ‘Cos of you we got two holding cells now, so yeah, you made an impression’ You let out a sharp laugh.

You smiled at Reid a he watched you carefully. ‘Well, well, well Ms T’ Came a deep voice and you turned to your left, Your eyes widened. ‘Old Man Hank’ You laughed holding out your hand. ‘You still around?’ He took it shaking your hand firmly. ‘Thought you’d be dead or retired’ He rolled his eyes. ‘Barely pushing 40 kiddo’ He laughed. ‘You look good, FBI suits you better than cuffs’ You smirked. ‘Still doing the cuff thing Hank, only for you though’ He chuckled again letting go of your hand. ‘You always were my favourite’ He laughed as he walked by you. You smiled. ‘You always will be mine’ You called after him and he waved you off over his shoulder.

Morrison turned. ‘Oi, opposite si-’ He stopped realising his mistake at using the old line he always had used when the two of you had started. Hank always was one of the favourite cops to ever roll through here. He wasn’t a hard ass and he was nice to anyone who was nice to him, which made him quite popular. He’d drop home kids who were up to no good instead of bringing them in when it was only minor offences, he’d give some of the women a lift home after shopping when they had no car. But when it came down to it h’d take you out. You just always liked to flirt with him. ‘Same side now Dick, can’t use that one no more’ You laughed following him.

You groaned dropping your head onto your arm. ‘We’re missing something’ You sighed looking at the board. ‘Everyone here fits this profile’ Reid said flipping page after page frustrated. You shook your head. ‘No, this guy enjoys it, and his victims are kids, the rest of them, they do it to protect family and gang’ You ran your hand over your face, ‘He, how about a coffee’ Derek laid his hand on your shoulder. JJ nodded. ‘I’d like one’ He nodded at her. His hand tightened on your shoulder and gave you a tug. ‘I’ll help’ You muttered standing. ‘The others should be back-’ You all looked up as the door opened the rest of your team walking in.

You stood as Prentiss dropped in her chair with a sigh. ‘No one would talk?’ She nodded. ‘Should have sent me’ You told Hotch. He hadn’t let you go out to talk to the people of the community because it was too close to the belt. Derek shook his head and gave you a push towards the door. ‘Coffee?’ He offered and the three that had come in nodded. You sighed following his direction. ‘Don’t patronise him, you’re lucky he’s letting you work this’ You turned and glared at him. He just shrugged.

You leaned on the counter. ‘I know this is hard but don’t take it out on Hotch Y/n’ You looked at Derek out of the corner of your eye. ‘How are we supposed to solve this if no one’s talking?’ You breathed. ‘We’ll get him’ He promised you pouring some milk into the Rossi’s coffee. You pushed yourself off the desk as someone strode into the station. A woman with light brown hair ran in after him..

You gulped when his eyes fell on you. Then they narrowed. Then he was stomping towards you. You took a step forwards him raising your hands in surrender. ‘Listen, I-I had to I-’ Derek looked up just as the woman screamed. His eyes widened.

The man’s hands grabbed your shirt lifting you up. ‘Hey man’ Derek’s hands wrapped around his arms pulling at him. ‘How dare you’ He screamed at you shaking you. Derek gave him a tug and his hands came clean making you fall back towards the coffee table. His hands landed on Derek’s shoulders and shoved him aside. ‘Dad’ The woman screamed running in. ‘Pa, I had to’ You held up your hands as he dove at you again.

Then pain flared in your cheek and you landed face down on one of the detectives desks. He had hit you. ‘Woah woah woah’ You heard them all trying to get him in order. Hands wrapped around your arms pulling you up. ‘Hey, hey, you okay?’ You focused on Derek’s voice instead of the man shouting at you. 

Derek’s eyes roamed your face and stopped at your lip. It was undoubtedly cut. He laid his hand gingerly on your chin. ‘The hell’ He whispered. You wrapped your fingers around his wrist and he looked up at you through his lashes. ‘I’m okay’ You whispered. ‘You don’t belong here’ A shout from behind the worried man in front of you. With that you shoved Derek out of your way coming face to face with the man who had to be restrained by five officers. ‘You ain’t from here anymore’ Your fist shot out and collided with his jaw. 

He stumbled a little before straightening. That shut him up. ‘You don’t think I know that’ You screamed back at him. ‘You think I’m under any other impression than that Pa?’ He bared his teeth. ‘You left, it was your choice’ He shouted struggling again as they tried to cuff him. ‘Yeah and you made sure to shut and lock that door behind me when I did’ You snarled. ‘I told you- I told you th-’ You straightened your shoulders. ‘You told me I ever set foot anywhere near here again you’d put a bullet between my eyes. I remember the words, I hear them every god-damn day’ You screamed at him as they finally got the cuffs on him.

He spat at you but missed. ‘But I came back to do my job’ You crossed your arms. ‘Your job was to stay away from here, from us. I told you to’ He glowered at you as they pulled at him. ‘Well guess what Pa, I don’t take orders from you no more’ He stopped struggling and they finally got a good hold of him and got him moving. ‘I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you' He shouted at you. ‘Rot in hell you son of a bitch’ You screamed after him before they pulled him out of the room.

The room was silent, all you could hear was him shouting from the next room, the woman in the doorway sobbing. You closed your eyes letting your shoulders slump. And then an arm wrapped around your shoulders. And people began talking again. ‘You’re okay, it’s okay’ Derek whispered as he turned you into him. You reached up grabbing his t shirt burying your face in his shoulder. ‘I gotcha’ He squeezed you tighter.You let out a long breath. Well, you wanted to meet my Dad, there you go’ You watched as Derek’s eyes widened.

You sat with the ice on your lip. ‘I-i’m so sorry, I tried to stop him’ You shook your head. ‘What’s you relationship to Mr Y/l/n?’ Rossi asked. ‘He-eh-he’s my Dad’ They glanced at you as your sister fumbled with her fingers. ‘They’re okay’ You told her leaning forwards. Derek’s hand wrapped around yours under the desk. ‘They’re FBI’ She hissed at you. You put down the ice before taking out your badge tossing it across the table. She picked it up eyebrows furrowed. ‘Y-You’re FBI’ Her eyes widened and you nodded.

Derek reached across you picking up the ice pressing it to your swollen lip. You groaned and raised your hand holding it there. Your sister looked between the two of you. ‘They take good care of ye?’ You shrugged. ‘Yeah, we got each others backs’ She nodded. ‘He take good care of ye?’ She nodded at Derek. ‘What?’ She scoffed. ‘Oh come on, you been hoverin’ round her ever since I got here. Don’t play dumb with me handsome’ She smirked.

You rolled your eyes. ‘Madison’ You scolded. ‘Listen, no one’s talk bout these murders, so open that mouth eh yours and talk’ You snapped. She raised her eyebrow. ‘Ain’t you FBI folk supposed to say please?’ You just gave her your best bored expression and she sat back tossing your credentials back at you and crossed her legs. ‘Ye won’t say ye got it from me will ye?’ You shook your head and she nodded. ‘Right, whatcha wana know?’ You glanced at Hotch and he nodded at you.

You nodded at Derek gun in hand. He nodded back and kicked the door. It flew open with a bang. The team, plus swat, moved through the unsubs house. It had taken you almost two days to find him but you had. ‘Clear’ Prentiss called from the left. You nodded to Hotch then up the stairs and started moving up them Hotch following. There was only two rooms. Hotch took one, you took the other.

You twisted the handle and pushed the door wide open. ‘FBI, put it down’ You shouted. He stood with the gun pointed at the woman’s in the corner. ‘Come on T’ He smirked. ‘Really?’ You stepped into the room. ‘Let her go, that’s you sister in law, let her go, you don’t wana kill her’ He shook his head. ‘No, no I want to, she made my life hell’ You nodded biting your lip. ‘I know, and she paid for that, her little boy. He’s gone, he didn’t make it’ You told him. The woman in front of him screamed and wailed. ‘He didn’t?’ You shook your head. He smiled.

Then he looked down at her. ‘Let her go’ He looked up at you. ‘He’s gone’ He whispered as he let her go. Only she didn’t wana go too far. ‘You so-’ She screamed at him and reached for the knife on the bed. He raised the gun pointing it at her. Two shots echoed through the room as you pulled the trigger. One hit his chest the other his head. The blood splattered on the wall behind him and she stumbled back with a scream.

You rushed forwards kicking the gun away from him motionless hand. Then crouched checking for a pulse. None. You turned to the woman. ‘He’s okay’ You shouted at her taking her shoulders in your hand. ‘Your son, he’s okay, I’m sorry’ Her sobbing died down a little as she looked at you her eyes wide. ‘I had to make him let you go’ You pulled her into your chest hugging her to you. ‘I’m so sorry, he couldn’t grow up without you I’m so sorry’ She began sobbing again. ‘We got him out’ And then her arms wrapped around you. ‘Thank you’ You patted her hair. Looking up you seen Hotch and Reid standing in the doorway. He nodded at you and you smiled slightly.

You curled your feet up underneath you as you cradled the hot cup in your hands. The TV was playing in the background, what was on it you weren’t really sure, you weren’t exactly looking at it. You were thinking about the case. You had gotten home about two hours ago after a quiet plane journey.

On the plane you had completely taken yourself away from the others. They had asked you how you were and you could feel their eyes on you every now and then but after that they left you alone. Derek had offered to bring you home but you didn’t want anyone around, you just needed to think.

You groaned at he knock at the door.You put down the cup and tossed the blanket off you. It was probably just a neighbour. The old lady down the hall liked to check in on you every now and then after a case to make sure you were okay. You trudged towards the door and pulled it open. You were almost going to slam it shut when you seen who was outside. ‘Derek, what are you doing here?’ You asked leaning your head against the door. 

He smiled slightly. ‘I know you said you wanted to be alone but’ He pulled his hands from behind his back, he had a tub of ice cream and some chocolates. ‘My baby had a rough few days and I thought she deserved some ice cream’ You smiled reaching out you took the chocolates and ice cream. ‘Thanks’ You smiled and shut the door leaving him standing on the other side.

You left it for a second before opening the door with a small laugh. ‘I changed my mind’ He reached out and took the chocolates back. But he was smiling as he stepped through the door. He wrapped his arms around your waist as you closed the door and he peppered small kissed along the length of your neck. ‘Are you ok-?’ You turned around and took his face in your hands pulling him down. Your lips moulded with his and you felt him smile again. ‘I’m fine’ You muttered

You laid your forehead against his and he looked you in the eye. ‘You’re not, but I’ll let it go’ You smiled thankful and pressed your lips to his again. He bent and picked you up his arm behind your legs and back. You giggled laying your head on his shoulder. You would have squealed but you were too used to this by now, after all it had been four month of you two dating. And derek loved to pick you up whenever he could, you had just come to expect it.

He put you down on the couch and disappeared, you presumed to get spoons. You were right, a moment later he came back with two spoons. He dropped down onto the couch next to you as you popped the lid off the ice cream. He covered you both with the blanket and handed you a spoon. You laid your head on his chest and he wrapped his arm around you shoulders.

You moaned as you took the first bite of the cold substance. ‘When you said you didn’t see your family much,I didn’t think it was that bad. Your sister didn’t even know you were FBI’ You nodded as he took a spoonful. ‘I only talk to my younger sister, Tessa. The rest I haven’t seen in ten years’ You looked up at him to find him thinking. ‘At least you finally got to meet my family’ You smiled and he raised his eyebrows

You shrugged taking another spoonful. ‘Did you ever get along with your Dad?’ He asked and you pursed your lips for a second. ‘Yeah, I was his girl, his most trusted, I was to follow in his footsteps, well-’ You sighed. ‘Until I left’ Again Derek was silent for a moment giving you both time to eat the cold treat. ‘Do you ever regret it?’ You bit your lip and shook your head. ‘Sometimes I missed the family aspect but I have the BAU now, that’s all I need’ You left it at that. Derek must have noticed your tone because he didn’t press the matter anymore.

You leaned forwards dropping the now empty tub on the table. Derek stretched and pushed off his boots tossing the to the far side of the room. ‘Oh, make yourself at home’ You said sarcastically. He raised his eyebrows but just leaned forwards capturing your lips with his. ‘I’m glad you’re here’ He whispered against your lips and grabbed a hold of your hips pulling you to him. 

You wrapped your arms around his shoulders throwing one leg over hips hap straddling him. He tightened his arms around you pulling your chest flat against his. You both groaned at the friction it caused as you rubbed against each other. Your hands grabbed handfuls of his shirt tugging. He pulled away from you and grabbed the back of his shirt pulling it over his head.

He tossed it across the room and his lips were back against yours. You shivered as his fingers slipped underneath the oversized shirt you had on, it was then you realised it was Derek’s. You ran your hands up and down his hard chest your fingers tracing his abs. You rolled your hips against his and he groaned again his fingers digging into your hips.

Your hands found his belt and made fast work of the buckle and the zipper of his pants. You tugged at them and Derek raised his hips. The difference of angle made the bulge press against your core and you whined. You could feel him smirk as you pulled down his pants. He wiggled a little trying to push them down all the way, which he succeeded in doing, but in the process ended up grinding up against you, causing you both to let out soft moans.

You grabbed his sides pulling him closer to you as he opened his mouth, You did the same both your tongues colliding in a passionate, desperate kiss. You pulled away and groaned as the doorbell rang. ‘Ignore it’ Derek panted grabbing your hair and pulled your lips back down to his. You moaned and listened. You rolled your hps against his gaining another delicious moan from him.

Then the doorbell rang again, twice. You cursed pulling away. ‘I-I have to’ You breathed as Derek’s lips fell on the tender skin of your neck. He just hummed not letting go you you. Hie reached up pushing the top from your shoulder as his lips followed the path of the fallen fabric.

The doorbell rang again. ‘Derek’ what you hand meant to sound stern came out as nothing more than a pleading moan as Derek bit into the spot at the bottom of your neck. You put your hands on his shoulder and pushed yourself out of his grip. He groaned and his head dropped back.

You bit your lip looking down at him. Damn, he was just pure muscle. A god, just made of hard muscle covered in that soft dark skin that you loved running your tongue over. Derek looked up at you and smirked noticing your lingering gaze.

Then the doorbell. You huffed. ‘Coming’ You shouted and rushed from the room into the hallway You smoothed down your hair and took a deep breath before opening the door. Your eyes widened. ‘Emily, Spencer, Penelope. What are what?’ You gaped. They all smiled. You heard movement in the other room and presumed Derek was  trying to get dressed. ‘We’re here to cheer you up, and no is not an answer’ You stuttered as Penelope explained and pushed by you into the apartment. ‘Wait’ You called.

She stopped in the doorway to the living room and her eyebrows raised. ‘Oh my’ Her voice raising an octave. ‘What?’ Prentiss rushed forwards and you stuttered. ‘Woah’ She came to a stop beside Garcia her jaw dropping. Spencer furrowed his brows and pursed his lips stepping into your apartment. You could already feel yourself heating up. You closed the door and followed them. You would have giggled at the sight if you hadn’t of been so embarrassed.

Derek stood frozen in the middle of your living room his pants almost all the way up staring at you all. ‘Well hi Derek’ Prentiss laughed. That seemed to get him out of his shock and he pulled up his trousers and fastened it up. ‘I knew it’ Garca squealed. ‘I knew you two were hot for each other’ You rolled your eyes stepping by her. ‘We all knew it’ Prentiss chuckled. ‘Explains why Derek wasn’t picking up’ Spencer concluded.

You walked into the room grabbing Derek’s top and handed it to him. He sent you a small smile pulling it on. ‘How long has this been going on?’ Prentiss asked looking between you both. Derek reached out and wrapped his arm around your shoulder. ‘Five months, we’ve been together four’  Garcia squealed. ‘Should-should we go?’ Spencer asked nervous.

You shook your head. ‘Nah, you’re here now, no point wasting a trip’ You nodded to the chairs. Garcia bounced into the room. ‘Where is safe to sit?’ She giggled joking. ‘In this apartment? Nowhere’ Derek laughed and you nudged him knowing the truth behind the words but the others just laughed.

Garcia took the single seat and Reid took the other looking at it skeptically before sitting. Prentiss sat on the opposite end of the couch. Derek fell down onto it too. ‘So, tell me how my two favourite agents got together’ Garcia beamed. ‘Hey’ Emily tried to sound offended but she was smiling too much. You sat beside Derek and he wrapped his arm around your shoulder pulling you too him. ‘Come on’ Emily raised her eyebrows at you. ‘Tell’ Derek laughed.

You looked around at them. Garcia giggling, Emily beaming, and Reid just giving you both a fond loving smile. You knew this was where you belonged. With your team. With your Family.

Spencer x Reader

Summary: A case hits home for a member of the BAU team and none of the others know why or how to help.

Reaching out you took the coffee that the woman had made up for you. ‘Thank you’ You smiled at her and she nodded. Spencer groaned from beside you. ‘Why do they always have yours finished first’ You giggled and reached out patting his shoulder. ‘They like me better’ He just rolled his eyes at you but smiled after when you began to laugh. 

This was a morning routine for you and Spencer, you would both meet up at this little coffee shop which was about a five minute walk from your house to get your morning coffee and you and him would take the train to work together. The team of course knew something was up between you two, whatever it was it was something more than the friendship you two portrayed. You certainly felt something for the genius, but it was forbidden between co-workers.

You watched Spencer as his order was called out and he made his way to the counter to pick it up. A smile played on your lips as you watched him interact awkwardly with the woman who reached out and touched his arm with a smile. Spencer was smart enough to know she was flirting, just not as well versed with people to know how to say no, even though you had told him almost twenty times.

He turned hastily to you readjusting his bag a small blush on his cheeks. ‘What did she say today goodlooking?’ You chuckled using the woman’s nickname for the genius. That made him blush even harder. ‘Said she’d like to see me by here more often, perhaps when she wasn’t working’ You let out a stark laugh at that and reached out. you threaded your hand through Spencer’s bent one and gripped his elbow. ‘Oh, my genius. Forever the chick magnet’ You giggled when he gave you an unimpressed look before opening the door for you both.

You sat next to Spencer on the train as you read over a book he had recommended. It was interesting, sure, just not something you normally read. But Spencer had been so excited when he had brought it to work one day and handed it to you telling you that it was one of the best books he had read in a while and he thought you would like it. So you were reading it. But unfortunately for you this morning you couldn’t concentrate on it.

Snapping the book closed you turned in your seat. Your hand immediately found Spencer’s knee. ‘Speak’ You ordered softly and he looked up at you his eyebrows furrowed. He sighed. ‘She’s been trying to get a date with me for a month’ He muttered. ‘Why? I’m just another customer who comes into the café, I thought it was her personality but she doesn’t act that way with any other men’ You almost rolled your eyes at him. ‘Well, Spence, maybe she just has good taste in men. A genius who works for the FBI, carries a gun, and is super kind, sweet, loyal. Incredibly tall and very handsome’ you shrugged. ‘What’s not to like boy wonder?’ You chuckled

Even though you were actually the same age as Spencer, Garcia’s name for him had rubbed off on you. Spencer sat watching you his lips slightly parted and his eyes focused solely on you. ‘What?’ You raised an eyebrow with a soft smile. ‘Is that really how you see me?’ He asked softly blinking. You just shrugged. ‘Well, among other things, yeah, that’s just a few’ You tucked your bottom lip between your teeth as Spencer continued to look at you. 

Just as you were about to ask him why he was still looking at you like that the train began to slow down. ‘This is our stop’ You gathered your things and stood. ‘Come on genius’ You smiled down at him and he blinked coming out of whatever state he was in to smile, really widely, back up at you before handing you your coffee he ha been holding so you could read.

It was paperwork day, something you hated, you never did like writing up things, which was odd since you wanted to be a writer when you were younger. But you guessed that was different, reports were different from novels, and it was certainly different when it was fiction. Although all fiction had some truth doesn’t it?

You jumped slightly when the phone on your desk rang, reaching out you didn’t even look up from what you were reading. ‘SSA Y/l/n, FBI’ You said in a monotone you eyes still scanning the paper. ‘Agent?’ A rough voice came from the other end of the phone and your head shot up your eyes widening. ‘Officer Grenly?’ You questioned and heard a sigh. ‘Yes Ma’am, that’s me’ You dropped your pen your fingers reaching up to massage your temple.

Spencer looked up at you and raised his eyebrows, you just turned away from him slightly not wanting to speak right now. But you were met by the curious gazes of both Emily And Derek too. ‘It happened didn’t it?’ You breathed. There was a silence on the other end while your foot began to tap against the floor beneath you. ‘Family of five attacked in their home, found about an hour ago, yeah, it’s happening’ You felt your heart drop and you certainly knew your face did by the scraping chair on the other side of the desking unit.

You let out a long breath. ‘Same MO?’ You cleared your throat. ‘Exactly the same, I thought I should call you first, seeing as you took the time to come all the way out here a few years ago’ You felt a hand on your shoulder and you looked up to see Spencer looking down at you. His long fingers squeezed your shoulder and he raised his eyebrow. You just shook your head. ‘Alright, if you could e-mail that case details to Aaron Hotchner. I can review it’ You heard him begin to type from the other end of the phone. ‘Got it, I’ll be seeing you soon Agent Y/l/n’ You nodded.

You noticed that all of the team was looking at you now, Derek leaning back in his chair his arms folded, Emily had put her pen down and giving you a ‘you better explain’ look. Spencer just looked worried, his fingers were firmly massaging your shoulder the way he knew would relax you, the way he had done many times before. ‘I’ll see you soon’ You placed the phone back down hanging up. ‘Something you wana tell us?’ Derek said the instant it was down. ‘Nop’ You bent down opening the bottom drawer of your desk, you shifted a few things. ‘Y/n’ Spencer’s soft voice came from right beside you as he crouched down beside you. 

He reached out laying his hand on your arm his thumb rubbing soft lines through the fabric of your thin shirt. Usually the gesture would make you shiver and the closeness of his face would usually make your throat tighten for a second, but not now. Your fingers found the false bottom in the desk and you pulled it up. Out of the corner of your eye you seen Spencer’s eyes widen and his eyebrows shoot up. ‘A false bottom?’ He choked out as you pulled out the large file below it. ‘What’s so important it needs a false bottom?’ He questioned.

His thumb stopped moving and his fingers tightened on your arm. Derek leaned forwards in his chair and Emily stood. You managed to get free of his grasp. ‘You’ll see’ You muttered spinning your chair enough to stand up and move around him. ‘Y/n’ He stood quickly and planted his hand on your shoulder and spun you back to him. ‘You’re worrying me’ He came straight out with it.

It wasn’t unusual for Spencer to tell you right out his feelings or to tell you what was on his mind, in fact it was very common between you two, he had even told you about his meetings and his addiction. But he never did it straight out in front of the team, which is why Derek and Emily’s attention diverted to him a surprised look on both of their faces. ‘You’ll know I promise, just, I need to-’ You spun away from him again clutching the file to your chest.

But he wasn’t giving up so easily and started after you. ‘y/n wi-’ you spun a glare on your face. ‘Spencer’ You snapped and with that you had the team’s attention again. Spencer stopped in his traces, you had always been patient with him, with all of them, you had never snapped or even sounded slightly exasperated with any of them. His mouth opened a little his eyes blinking and wide. ‘Just give me a few minutes to get this together and then you’ll see, please, this is time sensitive With that you spun leaving them there.

Derek and Emily looked at each other eyebrows furrows and concern flashing in their eyes. You had always been so kind to Spencer, you were the only one who didn’t cut him off when he rambled, you didn’t get annoyed sometimes at how much he knew, or how he could beat you so easily. You were always sweet to him, no matter what. It was one of the reasons they believed that the two of you belonged with each other, you were totally taken with Spencer Reid.

Yet here you were, he had only asked you a small question, stating his worry an you snapped at him, no explanation nothing. Just snapped and walked away. You had always taken time for Spencer, you would always explain to him the things he never got when the others just chuckled and walked away, but here you were. Walking away. Derek patted Spencer’s shoulder as they watched you stride towards the offices. ‘She’ll come round man’ He reassured his friend seeing his hurt expression.

Spencer looked up at him. ‘She had a false bottom Derek, whatever is in that file is important, look at how she’s holding it’ They’re eyes fell on you as you stopped outside Hotch’s door. They watched as you glanced down at the file in your hands before taking a deep breath and letting it out.

Then you raised your hand and knocked on the door before pushing it open. ‘Hotch’ You were inside the office before he had even looked up from his desk let alone invited you in. ‘I have something for you to look at’ You strode to his desk before gently laying the file down over what he was doing so he couldn’t ignore it. He looked between you and the file. ‘What is this?’ He asked laying down his pen straightening in his chair. ‘A case we’re going to work’ You told him

He raised an eyebrow and leaned back. ‘You don’t decide on what cases we work Y/n, th-’ You reached forwards and opened the file planting a finger on it. ‘I do with this one Hotch, this team is working this case’ You interrupted using a voice that you never used with Hotch before, it was one that left no room for discussion. Although this was Aaron Hotchner and he was going to fight back.

But just before he did a soft bing came from his computer and you looked at it. ‘Open it’ You told him. He narrowed his eyes but did as you said. Normally Hotch would never stand for this, one of his team barging into his office ranting orders at him but this was different, you were different. He may expect this from the rest of the team but not you, you were always someone who followed the rules, unless they needed to be broken, and only unless you were certain they needed to be broken. This was out of character.

You were by far the least aggressive on the team, when it came to your teammates you were sweet and kind, never letting any kind of frustration out. Even with unsubs you weren’t aggressive, you did what needed to get the job done, you never had outbursts, not like the rest of the team, and if a case got under your skin you always hid it until after. Until you were on the plane and you would sit away from the rest of them playing some kind of game on your phone that caused a frown on your face. Until Spencer would go sit with you and convince you to sleep, which you would try fight but would eventually end up with your head on his lap or shoulder, the frown still etched onto your features. Then when the plane landed you would go to the range and shoot or go to the gym and punch something. But you never allowed it to interfere with what needed to be done.

So Hotch opened his e’mail seeing a file that needed to be opened. The second he opened it he was met by crime scene photo’s, from a office he didn’t know. ‘Those were taken no less than an hour ago, they’re connected to these murders’ You told him your finger tapping the file. ‘They’re the last victim of a serial killer who has been working for over twenty years, and he has two more to kill. Unless we catch him’ That caught Hotch You seen his back straighten and he turned picking up the file.

He scanned the pages turning them. ‘How did you find this?’ He asked not looking up. ‘It found me, I knew one of the families and I’ve been keeping tabs on it ever since’ You explained standing back crossing your arms. His eyes stopped for a second. ‘These dates, two years ago’ He looked up at you and your back straightened slightly. ‘You took these dates off for holiday time’ You nodded. He flicked over the age. ‘And there is a profile in here already even though the BAU didn’t work this case, and it’s by you’ He closed the file and put it down on his desk. ‘I assisted last time, although I was called before the last family was killed so I only got the profile not the unsub. And it was off the books’ He nodded staring at you, and you knew he was studying you.

For a second it was silent. ‘Your personal connection with this case will not get in the way?’ You shook your head. ‘No sir, I promise,if anything it will only make me more invested in catching this guy’ He nodded slowly. ‘I’ll gather the team, you can present them with the case in 10′ He pushed his chair back standing. You nodded and picked up the file pulling it to your chest again as he gave you a nod walking out of his office.

You took in a deep breath before letting out a long breath. This was going to be a hard case.
