Cos-tips - Tumblr Posts
@cos-tips I understand why you decided to take the articles down but I feel like if someone wants to darken or lighten their skin color that is their choice. How is it different from going tanning everyday to get darker? That's just as harmful (what with skin cancer and all) but I don't see anybody banning posts about tanning salons. I do not wish to perpetuate the idea that dark skinned people cannot cosplay light skin characters, that's not my point at all. I'm all for cosplaying whatever you feel comfortable cosplaying. I just dont like that one person's opinion forced you to take down articles. You can't always be worried about offending others. Someone is always going to be offended by something, especially when dealing with large numbers and/or social media. Just some food for thought.
*This is just a FYI, I'm not mad at you guys* While I applaud you guys for mentioning that the anon didn't need to lighten their skin for cosplay, posting tips for skin whitening/lightening is problematic because it reinforces the views that darker people can't cosplay because of our skin color or that in order for cosplay to be accurate the cosplayer needs to have the same skin tone as their character which isn't true at all!
This is very true! You put it into words quite well. Both Mod Gigi and I actually don’t think that it’s right to paint your skin a natural skin tone different from yours. We aim to help cosplayers as much as we can, and we’re very sorry if you were hurt or offended by what happened! The asks sending info/asking about lightening will be deleted, so to not spread harmful information.

@simakeyboardslam America does have one thing similar to that that I know of. I'm not in it but there's the 501st Legion. It's a Star Wars based group based mostly around the Stormtrooper costume. They are extremely strict on how the costume is made and with what materials to make it as screen accurate as possible. They're awesome though. They do a lot of charity work and their costumes really are spectacular.
i got a question, no only for this blog or the followres of his blog, but for every single cosplayer there is kinda. in my country, a couple years ago some cosplayers cape up with the idea to form a guild. almost all cosplayers of y country are in it (i live in belguim, and the guild/group's called CosplayCloud) CC has stands and everything at almost all cons in th country and organise meetings as well. do other countries have groups these ass well? where you're all conected with one another?
Hmm, I personally don’t know of anything like that here in the US, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something like it! Does anyone else know?
