How I Would Write Jason in TOA?

Sorry if any of this feels disjointed. This is my first time doing a character and plot rewrite.

I think Jason had loads of potential to be a great character, but it was messed up in TBM.

To add on to the post, I’ll explain what I would change. 

Jason and Piper are together in TBM, but there would be dialogue explaining how it was tough “starting over” their relationship(like Blood of Olympus very much hinted) and that they had to do individual soul searching before building a better foundation for their relationship. Piper would have doubts about their relationship and still question if Aphrodite and Hera’s interference is why they are together.

Piper’s father would still lose his money but earlier, so Piper would move back to Oklahoma. Jason would go back and forth between Camp Half-Blood, building plans for the shrines. They still communicate except as friends. This would give them time to individuate and learn more about themselves(they would be broken up). Piper would realize her bisexuality and become attracted to Shel. They date, but it only last for a few months because Piper still has feelings for Jason. Her doubts of the relationship are resolved; however, she waits so she doesn’t pressure Jason. Speaking of Jason, after working for months on the shrines, he wishes to take a break and start acting/doing things for himself(hang out with friends, relaxing, etc). Jason’s feelings for Piper are still the same and, after a while, he talks to her about it. They get back together with Jason going to Oklahoma to be closer to Piper and try living a regular life. This could be good representation on how relationships take a lot of work and time, but can be worth it when there is love and communication. 

By the time The Burning Maze starts, Jason and Piper have been together for a month and are a stronger team. However, Jason is having trouble adjusting to having a normal because of his sense of responsibility to be a leader and protector. Between the couple getting together and TBM, they find another entrance to the Labyrinth and Jason learns about the prophecy. Safe to say, he is really stressed.

Instead of the prophecy saying that either Jason or Piper would die, I would change it to either one having to make a great sacrifice. Jason would still fight Caligula. It would be monumental for Jason’s character, and a big fight. Jason would lose, though he would escape with the group with grievous injuries and would be out of commission for the rest of the book. These injuries would result in Jason being paralyzed from the waist down, sacrificing a big part of his identity- being a strong fighter, something he is mostly known for. Jason would have to learn to adjust to the change and further learn more about himself. Though, thanks to Leo’s skills and a battle-ready wheelchair, Jason can still fight, he decides to mostly stay in the sidelines and be a tactician.

My Thoughts on MK1 Hanzo

(Spoiler Warning: Smoke’s Tower Ending is discussed)

I saw Smoke’s tower ending and was surprised to see Hanzo in the new timeline, let alone as a child. Although I’m open to how the writers will handle his character, I’m kind of disappointed that they went this route. When I learned that Kuai Liang would be Scorpion in the new timeline, I expected Hanzo to either not even exist or live a nice life with Harumi and their son. Instead, Kuai Liang is married to Harumi and Hanzo is much younger than them, which is so weird. I really hoped Hanzo would have a happy life and only be involved in the games through mentions at least.  Also, this decision paints Liu Kang in a bad light. It’s no secret Liu Kang made sure his allies had a good life while making some of his enemies’ lives (Shang Tsung and Quan Chi) insignificant to prevent them from turning into their past counterparts. So, it makes me wonder why Liu Kang didn’t think to give Hanzo a good life or at least watch over him. It’s shown that Hanzo is a starving orphan forced to steal for essentials. I have no doubt Liu Kang knows about Hanzo’s past since he met the older and kinder Scorpion in MK11 and Raiden has disclosed Hanzo’s past in MK 9. Plus when Liu Kang fused with the Hourglass, he most likely became aware of what happened in MK9 and MKX. He gave Shao Kahn the chance to be a better man by being the Kingdom’s general- a risk that didn’t pay off, yet didn’t give Hanzo what he always desired- his wife, son, and the Shirai-Ryu. It feels so out of character for Liu Kang to not make sure Hanzo had a good chance at life. 

If I had the opportunity to write Hanzo’s character, it would’ve been very different. I would’ve made him a former Lin Kuei member(he would be 5 or more years older than Bi-Han) who held the Scorpion title until he retired to Japan- where met Harumi and had their son. Hanzo would’ve also been the one to train Kuai Liang in his fire powers in the latter’s childhood. In his honor, Kuai would take the Scorpion mantle after Hanzo retires. Hanzo could also help Kuai and Smoke form the Shirai-Ryu but Harumi helps in recruiting and training while he takes care of their young son. 

Though, I still hold some faith that NRS will write the new Hanzo well. I guess I’m just disappointed because I wanted Hanzo to finally live a happy life where his family stays alive. He was one of my favorites in the MK9-MK11 era so I can’t help but feel a connection towards him.

MK1 Tanya Rewrite

When it comes to MK1 character writing, I believe Tanya, alongside Nitara and Havik, got the short end. Tanya’s role is too similar to Jade and she doesn’t have too much going for her other than being the leader of the Umgadi and Mileena’s lover. Her backstory is also a bit too bland compared to most characters. I hope this changes in the next story. I had a small idea of how I would rewrite and add dimension to her character. 

Instead of being chosen as an infant like most Umgadi, Tanya began training later in her childhood. She was born on the poorer side of Outworld where her parents owed a massive debt to a corrupt merchant. When her parents died, the debt was transferred to Tanya and she had to steal to survive and pay the debt. Tanya trained herself to fight others who tried to hurt her for money or just for fun. After years of suffering under the merchant’s hand, Tanya got her chance for freedom when a Sun Do constable recruited her to be their mole for their investigation on the merchant who was suspected of trafficking illegal substances and Outworlders. Tanya succeeded and the merchant was arrested. The constable was so impressed by Tanya’s fortitude and fighting skills that she asked an old friend, Li Mei, who was the leader of the Umgadi at the time, to take her in. With that fortitude and natural ability to fight, Tanya rose in the ranks and became the new leader- the youngest to ever be appointed. It was bittersweet since Tanya’s goal was to acquire a higher standing in the Umgadi, but she felt betrayed by Li Mei’s “negligence.” 

Tanya didn’t have a strong opinion of the royal family until her leadership role. With more direct contact with the family, Tanya conversed with the family, especially Mileena. Their first interaction was during Tanya’s patrol when she found Mileena hiding to grieve for her father alone. Feeling sympathy for the princess, Tanya lent her ear and listened to Mileena as she vented about missing her father and the pressure she felt to be as great of an empress as her mother. Since losing Li Mei, Tanya didn’t have a personal connection with anyone until that talk with Mileena. Afterward, Mileena would frequently sneak out of her room and walk alongside Tanya during patrols. They would talk about anything that came to mind or enjoy each other’s company in silence. Their first kiss was the first time Tanya felt alive, but she also felt incredible dread since she betrayed the Umgadi- her family. Tanya avoided Mileena for weeks, yet couldn’t deny her love for her. That’s when their affair began. 

Sylki Rewrite

(Note: Although I don’t like Sylki, I don’t have a problem with anyone who ships them.) Warning: Internalized Homophobia Mention

Two weeks ago, I binged the Loki series. To put it shortly, I loved it! Loki has one of the best character development I’ve ever seen. He moved past his insecurities and realized what he truly wanted- to be loved and seen. The time aspect was easy to digest and didn’t complicate or overinflate the concept too much. I loved the new characters, especially Mobius and O.B. Mobius and Loki’s chemistry was amazing and so natural, which makes sense since Mobius was his first friend. O.B. was lovable and so nerdy. I hope they both return to future projects. Though I didn’t connect with her as much, B-15 was a good addition, and would be happy to see her return. When it comes to Sylvie, I'm mixed with her. She’s well-written for the most part, but I didn’t like the Sylki romance in S1, and her attitude got irritating in S2 (I'll most likely write a separate post on it). Alongside thinking Loki being attracted to a version of himself is weird, their romance felt rushed and unnatural. I couldn’t really see Loki being attracted to/like/in love with someone that quickly and Sylvie looked like she barely tolerated him, even in the second season. Honestly, I think this romance was pushed by Disney instead of the writers, mainly because there was a moment in Episode 4 where Mobius rants about how strange the attraction was. I’d like to think that was the writers calling out Disney for how weird this idea was. I would’ve liked it more if Loki and Sylvie had a sibling-like relationship. I would’ve written it where Loki feels protective of Sylvie because he sees a bit of himself in her such as his anger, loneliness, and wish to belong somewhere. But, he also respects her because she lived alone and in survival mode, teaching herself how to use magic and escape death. In turn, Sylvie sort of resents Loki, especially when he mentions his relationship with Frigga, since he lived in Asgard and had a family while she lived alone and in fear. I would have a scene where Sylvie lashes out at him (maybe when he accidentally breaks the Tempad), calling him a fool for taking his family’s love for granted. On the other hand, Loki snapped and said how she had the chance to be her true self while Loki lived under Thor’s shadow and Asgard’s expectations. Maybe go as far as to mention how he felt he had to hide his bisexuality and genderfluidity out of fear of not being accepted. By the end of the argument, both realize how their pain does not absolve others and that there is good and bad in their lives. Other than the kiss scene, the scene with Loki trying to stop Sylvie from killing He Who Remains was great. 

I was so glad S2 left the ship behind. It was one of the reasons why I think S2 is a big improvement. I can’t really describe their relationship since there are moments when they get along but there are others when Sylvie is really standoffish and doesn't seem to like Loki. Maybe the closest description would be bickering siblings, which is close to what I wanted.

Did anyone else get nervous that there would be a Sylki kiss in the S2 finale? I was, especially when he was trying to stop her from killing HWR again. If they did, it would've messed with my enjoyment since there was no indication in previous episodes that they were continuing the romance. Thankfully, they didn't and the finale was perfect, even if it broke my heart that Loki will live alone for as long as he's alive. I wanted him to be happy with everyone.

I'm so inspired!!!

All Stars rewrite ideas based on what I thought was going to happen when there was only 3 episodes out at the time (sorry for making this so long)

The biggest issue with Tom ghosting Jake and Miriam was going to be that when Miriam had to be taken to the hospital (whatever happened during their vacation together was going to be more serious than they let on), Jake had texted/called Tom about it only to be met with silence (hence why Miriam said to Tom that she thought he would call in episode 3). It would have been interesting if Jake and Miriam talked after this challenge and Jake agreeing with Miriam that if Tom can't even explain himself for not picking up or responding back after her medical scare then it's about time Jake stop having hopes that Tom will ever talk to them at all. Jake would feel some annoyance with Aiden and Tom quickly becoming friends but Jake's beef would solely be on Tom not Aiden. Jake will occasionally look/glare in Tom's direction but restrains himself from talking to him. Would have loved to see Jake blow up at Tom later that the reason why he kept reaching out was not just because of his lingering feelings but because of what happened to Miriam (tying back to how Jake lost both his grandparents and those fears resurfacing because of Miriam's recent medical scare). Jake could have felt hurt by Tom's silence as him not caring about Miriam despite being close during their season.

Grett and Yul were actually going to be a genuine couple. With the look that Yul gave to Grett when she hugged him in episode 2, I was convinced. I thought Yul's storyline would be that although he's still shitty, he is trying to be better not just for his reputation but also for Grett (the cliché that love makes you change) . Also we would have got to learn about Yul's time in the industry and possibly more info about him and his family being north korean defectors (since it was only mentioned once in season 2). For Grett, I thought her storyline would have been about after being on season 1, she faced a lot of negativity and lost weight because of it since Emily did mention that she was getting a lot of negative comments that targeted her appearance. Hell, I saw the potential of them of being one of the best couples we could have had in All Stars (the others being James and Aiden, and Ellie and Gabby). I also could have seen Yul helping Grett overcome the hate she gets by giving her tips on developing thicker skin since he's had more experience, while Grett would push Yul into being a better person and he listens because Yul cares about how Grett sees him.

A possible Jake and Fiore team up after James' elimination since she voted James as well while Hunter and Ally voted for her. I honestly think that it would have been an interesting team up. The two could have opened up to each other about their not so good relationships with their parents. Also with the two being a team, Fiore could have kept Jake focused on the game by easily pointing out any mind games that Alec or Ellie are trying to pull on him while Jake could help Fiore during the physical challenges and stand up for her from the rest of their team so Fiore can be listened to since she's the smartest person on their team and Fiore could come up with ways on how they could win (Fiore knew how to play the game in her season). The two could've had a naive older brother/genius little sister dynamic.

With Aiden and Riya, I had expected much more interaction. With what happened in season 2 it was obvious that Aiden and Riya were going to have tension between them and because of this Aiden would have a rivalry with Riya instead of being pitted against Jake.

Lake being a lesbian would have some focus since she's now free from her arranged marriage and her parents.

Possible breakup between Hunter and Ally. Or having Huntessally finally being canon.

we all thought the season would pan out so differently i’m so sick of these people 😭 your ideas with jake and his dynamic with others are great, i wanted him to be mad at tom rather than others so badly, and him and fiore bonding? sign me up!!!

yul and grett being genuine YES!!! i was actually hopeful for their dynamic believe it or not, i thought yul would be redeemed and although the “love changes people” trope is so overdone, it would have suited him. but yul stays yul <//3

also huntessally canon is not a want but a need.

Howard has a bit more edge and punk vibe to him, expanding on his dislike of the Nomicon they both don’t like each other yet here he goes carrying the book around since Randy trust him he doesn’t understand cunnigham sometimes. Plus an excuse why Howard is with all Randy battles because he has access to his equipment

Howard doesn’t know that Randy is the ninja until 30 seconds to math so his anger towards Randy always leaving is justified instead of stupid. They have some issues but it gets sorted out

His kimoto is based off the colors of the ninja suit still tying his bond that never left. He doesn’t hate the ninja infact he wants the ninja and him to team up to take over the world as he only cares about himself and past grudges to DESTROY MCFIST! (Good thing for bad purposes) He wants to get back at Hannibal for his eye and making him lose the title of being the ninja (that was his fault btw not Hannibal)

Mac Antfee thinks of Randy as the son he never had as he teaches Randy friendship would only bring him down as past ninjas before him the one closest to you would only cause suffering and heartache (A lesson the nomicon also told Randy but ignored) When Randy refused to be his pupil it was sworn that they would be enemies and he will have the suit back weather the nomicon or Randy will not.

Changing gloxinia backstory canon he had an evil side before becoming one of the commandments, So gloxinia was supposed to be king but it was given to his sister instead of him since he acted too childish and was cursed to never grow up physically even by fairy terms meaning he stuck with baby wings (he’s a late bloomer like Elaine and King) this angers him every day but when he learns about a way to gain full wings he turns to the demon clan.

Turning to the demon clan changed his philosophy not only his eyes but his whole body as a result.
